I'll always have fond memories with wx 78 because he was the first character i chose to learn to ruin rush. I've done countless ruins rushes with him just to reset the world the moment i got to surface. Also his food passive is immensely helpful when you haven't figured out how to solo bee queen yet.
7:45 WX78 can actually charge himself with a lightning rod if it was hit by lightning (which is really beneficial considering that loosing charges happens mostly because of rain, when the lightning rod is most commonly charged anyways)
4:36 you don't even need thermals since your min/max temperature is high/low enough to completely ignore summer/winter, if you use 1 freeze circuit only the freezing effect will appear but it won't go eny worse, same for summer
I play on pubs a ton as WX and the worst thing you can come across is one of the fire/ice staff hound set pieces because if another player picks up the staff its going to rain for days. One time the set piece spawned in the monkey village and they stole it so the rain killed me.
Yeah but I was just trying to say it was like a quick solo way to do it you'd have to get lucky with lightning and each charge takes about 90 seconds so it's honestly just probably better to wait
Wx is my favourite character right now. Being able to eat gears means that you can go to the ruins, get a lot of gears and immediately start exploring/killing bosses after leaving without having to build crock pots or even set up a proper base. Some bosses like the shadow pieces and even the twins of terror drop a lot of gears which can help you keep going. For more casual gameplay he has the heat and cold circuits which are also really good. Overall he's really good for both casual and speedrunning.
Also for casual there's light circuit for heat/cold circuits and moggles without them and there's passive healing circuit even through it's locked behind Bee Queen. And for bosses there's obviously 3 speed/3 bolt circuits
I wonder what the skill tree is going to look like for WX. Maybe we will get to upgrade him with boss loot. I’m also hoping to see his drones doing more than just scanning. And maybe they can even give him an auto pilot mode where he performs routine tasks as the player programs him to. WX is yet another good opportunity to perfect the character design. There are so many possibilities for a robot.
I'd like it if he could craft an amout of data from scans into skill points, and said skill points allow him to unlock more advanced circuits. You would still need to scan stuff to get said circuits, but it would give significantly more of a point to the data from scans other than just being a mandatory crafting thing.
I think the problem people have with them is, in my opinion, they play him the wrong way. Most people just put speed and then whatever nightvison, for example, then just sticking with that forever, but I think you should mix and match the circuits for the occasion you're in.
WX's rework made me really like him (mostly because I hate not going fast) and I always start the world by getting a night vision circuit and rushing the ruins for a speed II. Early game, it's just the most useful combo, but I always end up with 2 speeds and a health II because over doubling your health is worth the speed loss imo, but as you said, he's such a versatile survivor, I think any combo can be useful if you play it right.
Despite the fact that he is worse after his rework, i find him to be a much more mechanically deep and more fun character than he used to be with a lot of variety and unique perks. Plus he is still a solid character after the rework anyways.
I like to swap circuits a bunch as him. I always use the seasonal circuits and when I go in the caves I always do speed plus moggles. Outside of that, I mix and match depending on what I want to do.
Oh boy. This makes me really wanna play WX-78. I really wanna try that electric circuit build and maybe even combine it with some bramble husk shennanigans. Do you have any additional tips around using those circuits? Do water balloons work? Is there an armor / weapon set you recommend? Is the extra 90 dmg (most seasons and scenarios actually worth it?), should I combine it with a hardy circuit? One more question. Is it easy to farm gears? Or do you just have to keep killing the twins and AFW?
Wx is the definition of almost a perfect character My only issue is that his electric circuit is the weakest of them all I wish they could rework it or give it a huge buff
WX is an inferior Wurt/Maxwell imo. Maxwell has his body slot open a lot of the time thanks to his magic hat being about as good as a a backpack, so he can afford to use it for insulation, a mag, or something like belt of hunger. Or he can wear a raincoat and use his head slot for a moggles. On the Wurt end of the spectrum she has access to heat/cooling via fish and enhanced stats via merm king. WX just ends up looking like a chump because neither Max nor Wurt actually use those traits as their main perk, they are just bonuses on already complex chars. And WX has to pay in circuit durability every time. I think a huge problem with WX is that they largely exist seperately to the world. They don't really do anything like harvesting or creating structures or anything and just have a bunch of powerups which makes them a poor choice compared to characters who can do those things. I'm honestly not sure what Klei could do to make them worthwhile.
I've never understood this general sentiment that wx isn't that good anymore. You can literally choose parts of the game to just straight up ignore or play wilson with 50% extra speed, which can be quite addicting
I'll be real and say the original WX was just plain boring. It was just the physical embodiment of a stat stick. The rework actually made him an interesting and fun character gameplay-wise

honestly a meh character overall. nothing wx has can compare to Wendy and wormwoods insane aoe options, or maxwell or wolfgang or Wanda or new wigfrids dps. even woodie is far better generally speaking. wx just can't do anything other characters can't. having higher stats or a light source or heating or cooling is convenient and nice but it's not amazing
once his skilltree gets added he'll probably get a pretty big power buff just like the other characters. Woodie was pretty meh like wx until his skilltree that majorly improved him
i mean if you look as dps yeah since other than wolfgang,wigfrid and warly there is none that gets damage boost and he is much better as a solo character since he dont offer much in a team playthrough anyways

The absolutely best benefit of electric circuits is to SMITE any other fleshlings that dare to touch you, and as a more niche thing WX is king of PvP with electric circuit preventing stun locks speed being a get out of jail free card and/or tanky-ness that doesn’t need to have you attacking to be sustainable unless someone gets water-balloons then your screwed
Having played with WX mains pretty often as a casual, them as a character is usually pretty similar; I play with the Dehydrated mod and EVERY SINGLE ONE DRINKS SALT WATER AT SOME POINT. It's the funniest thing, but they are also incredibly driven to help out at camp in exchange for good food and things to scan. 10/10 would let that funky lil robot hang out again.

I think the 3 reasons why people don't like to play him anymore are the follow: 1) pre-rework: while you can max out a single stat and gains other few bonuses, the old ones just need a little investment and you get all the basic stats at max, sure, you are a Wilson with bigger stats but that's all you need, meanwhile the new one you need to choose what you want to max out or have a weaker version of he used to be. 2) Too much to offer for so little time: unlike the skill trees that are almost permanent once you rank up them a bit, you circuit are not when you switch them out. Most skills work all year around while they are active, but wx upgrades don't, while they are good on their own, their are not versatile as people want to be. If you don't like to plan ahead to switch each time you move from caves to superficie or another season, you are loosing some potential and here is when people get lost, just because you can't min-max him because you need to change those circuits, doesn't mean he is bad, just a gameplay focused on have a single stats always shining or have all the stats you want when you need them but at the cost of changing them. 3) skill trees: in general, people will play the characters with skill trees either because they want to unlock all the point to play with them or they already got those points and switch out to a survivor that don't have any yet don't sounds good to them.
The biggest problem with WX-78 is that while they do have an answer to any situation, they cannot easily access these answers. Once you've filled all 6 slots, you need to remove something to make room for something else in the moment, which heavily drains your Charge, making the things you to swap to inaccessible during the time you needed them, and it damages your Circuits meaning you'll eventually need to make more of them as replacements. This feels bad, which I think is the primary reason why people don't play Post-Rework WX-78: they got super nerfed, like really hard, and feel really clunky to play. 400 Health, 300 Sanity, 200 Hunger, +50% Speed, a mobile Light source, and an immunity to Freezing. Post-Rework WX-78 can never match that, not even close. Best you can do is 1 Super Acceleration, 1 Refrigerant/Illumination, 1 Gastrogain Circuit. You have half the Speed boost, either no Light source and/or no immunity to _ambient_ Freezing, with massively reduced Health, Sanity, and Hunger, although you do gain the marginal benefit of having your inventory being treated like an Ice Box for your perishables, so that's nice I guess? Although this upside is weak for WX-78 since they can eat spoiled food just fine, meaning food lasts longer for them than other characters to begin with. Gears are still a superfood, but having such low base stats makes it hard to capitalize on them without wasting some of the restoration due to overfilling your stats. Theoretically, if all your stats were at minimal values, you can eat one Gear. Eating a second Gear would waste the Hunger it would provide unless you were using a Gastrogain Circuit, which is why I recommend it over the other 1 slot Circuits, it makes eating Gears more beneficial in more situations. And this doesn't _exactly_ mesh well with WX-78's other upside of being able to eat spoiled food, since Gears don't spoil, although it _kinda_ does mesh will with eating Electric Milk to restore Charge which makes swapping your Circuits less tedious, which in turn _is_ a benefit for being able to hold onto Electric Milk for longer before it turns to rot... but not during the Winter where you hate existing and thus need to swap Refrigerant for the Thermal Circuit instead which makes the Electric Milk rot faster therefore you need to store it in a backpack or wrap it which just adds another layer to the tedium, especially if you want to swap Circuits around on the go, and also maybe produce way more Lightning Rods than what any other character would ever need to as it can reduce your reliance on Electric Milk... it's all just a big mess compared to what it was before, the new benefits don't _really_ outweigh the nerfs, the character just feels generally weaker. I just don't get why wx should get penalized for switching circuits, as it could've made wx more active. As wx is now, it's pretty much just change the circuits for each season or boss. It just feels kind of weird that wx was so severely nerfed when even wolfgang got buffed. I hope wx's skill tree can help because wx used to be one of my favorites.
the main problem is the fact that wx 78 was change to a character with a lot of potential power with a even more power when using resources into wx 78 in dst is a character that dosent have much potential power but he doesnt to spend resources for his max power, in other worlds he used to be a late game character that was change into a ealry, mid game another problem is power creep, maxwell can do everything that wicker can do, maxwell is maxwell and wickerbottom (he even has more dps than wolfgang) but wx78 is just wx78. with maxwell and wicker books he dosent overheat, freeze, gets effected by rain, he can get very easy healing food with pierogies, has more dps than wolfgang. so why play wx 78 when maxwell can do the same but even better?
i feel like problem with wx is that he is just balanced. in world with some quite broken survivors, but that's just about it. i personally find him fine, but main annoyance is that scanning may get frustrating at times
Just so you know, wx78 is confirmed to be nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. This was confirmed in a forum post made on the 3rd of feb 2022 by the administrator "JoeW", page 3 of "What do you want to see in the wx rework?". I think it'd be cool for more nonbinary characters to get representation in games especially for a game as big as DST, so its a shame to see that so many people dont know/care this detail.
if u like WX78 u should definitely play him in Uncompromising mode. :P He recently got a rework in this mod and now he has 8 slots, the circuits durability are now time based, the circuits effects are even better, and the way charges worked are changed

eating gears to become strong was stupid asf, old wx was just wilson but you consume gears (& some other stuff that didn't really matter that much)

another problem is power creep, maxwell can do everything that wicker can do, maxwell is maxwell and wickerbottom (he even has more dps than wolfgang) but wx78 is just wx78. with maxwell and wicker books he dosent overheat, freeze, gets effected by rain, he can get very easy healing food with pierogies, has more dps than wolfgang. so why play wx 78 when maxwell can do the same but even better?
still don't like playing him but I like having one in my team
i feel like problem with wx is that he is just balanced. in world with some quite broken survivors, but that's just about it.
i personally find him fine, but main annoyance is that scanning may get frustrating at times
Just so you know, wx78 is confirmed to be nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns.
This was confirmed in a forum post made on the 3rd of feb 2022 by the administrator "JoeW", page 3 of "What do you want to see in the wx rework?".
I think it'd be cool for more nonbinary characters to get representation in games especially for a game as big as DST, so its a shame to see that so many people dont know/care this detail.

if u like WX78 u should definitely play him in Uncompromising mode. :P He recently got a rework in this mod and now he has 8 slots, the circuits durability are now time based, the circuits effects are even better, and the way charges worked are changed
