I saw a cool theory/speculation that Wolfgang is Slovenian, or has Slovenian heritage. Frog legs are popular in Slovenia, too. The country also had a period where Communism was highly relevant in its politics, and it has both Slavic and Germanic roots. Which explains the Germanic name (Wolfgang).

By definition, exotic means "originating in a distant foreign country". Evergreen trees are fairly common all over the world, except in tropical islands, where they are more rare and could thus be considered exotic by the people who live there. Edit: You might also have a point on Winona being Canadian - when examining Maxwell in DST, she calls him a hoser - a slang term originating and very widespread in Canada, which is also coincidentally frequently used by Woodie as well...
I'd say you got most of these spot on! But since you asked, here's my interpretation of several of the 'ambiguous' characters: First off, Wolfgang. You may think it's confusing how he refers to many European cultures as his homeland, but there could be an easy explanation for that: His family comes from various different areas of Europe, his mother and his father could potentially be from different countries, and their family could also be from mixed cultures. Another theory is that he was born in the Polish partitions, specifically the Russian one. Since he has several quotes which hint that he is also familiar with the polish culture (Pierogi "Wolfgang love pierogi", Polish cookies: "brings back good memories", and cabbage rolls "Wolfgang likes his cabbage rolls smothered in sourkrout!", although this one is more so mixed-culture, sourkrout is a generally popular Central European ingredient.) I would say his parents are polish and french, with backgrounds in different cultures due to the partitions themselves and the impact they had on the country. He has traveled a lot, and likely often visited his family in France. At some point he joined in with the German army, due to his unused skin having a pickelhaube (a common German helm from the time), and after he retired/resigned, he was met with the offer to join the circus, and from then on he travelled a lot, eventually landing in the US, where he stumbled upon William Carter. Now, Willow: I would say Willow is American wirh japanese heritage, as she has several indicators in her quotes and more thst she's very familiar with Japanese culture. Pretty sure James Bucket made a video on it, but her quote for Old Bell is : "Is it New Year's Eve?! Are there fireworks?!" Indicates that she's familiar with the customs there, possibly celebrated it herself at some point. There are also theories that speculate Bernie is meant to be a Hōko or Amagatsu doll (although not exactly traditionally made) since he protects her from evil aka the shadows. Those dolls were made with human hair as a part of their makeup, and Bernie does in fact have hair in his crafting menu. And lastly WX-78. I agree with you that they were most likely build in the US, but there are hints in their quotes that may suggest their former self was from the UK Fish steak: "MISSING ADDON...CHIPS" "REQUIRES CHIPS" Cooked Fish morsel: "CITRUS SPRITIZING REQUIRED " And their quote for rockjaw having British slang : "I AM NOT MEAT YOU THICK SKULLED NINCOMPOOP " Their former body might've been destroyed but their British soul lives on... I'll try to find some more info on the rest.
Wolfgang could also be a Volgo German, Germans living near the Volgo River in Russia, Pierogi isn't just a polish meal as Russia also means the same "пероги" (Perogi) spelt Pierogi in English. There were a few Germans that worked for Russia. For the pickelhaube it was also popular in Russia as well as Germany and Russia both. He is most likely born near a Volgo German community and served the Russian military at some point and then travelled around

I remember James Bucket mentioning Willow have a lot of knowledge about japanese culture (potential references to the bell ringing ceremony and hoko ningyo) As for Wolfgang... here's my new headcanon I just came up with this information (breathes in) German parents, was born in France, moved to Russia for unknown reasons and lived there for most of his life, joined the circus and traveled throughout the world, ending in America
Funny enough my headcanon is basically the opposite. Born in Russia to a Russian parent and a German parent, moved to France as a teenager, at some point did a stint in the German military, eventually moved to the states alone to work and send money back to family. There's also a somewhat apocryphal dev comment from years back about how Wolfgang getting weaker from hunger probably tied into "his secret backstory." Which leads me to believe that wherever he and his family lived, food was rather scarce. Related to the above is his unused quote for cooked long pork; "Baba's secret recipe!" While incredibly gross and fucked up, it lends more creedence to the food scarcity thing. But "baba" here is interesting, because as previously mentioned, that word as a family diminutive is common across Eurasia. But more specifically, in many Slavic languages, it's a shortening of "grandmother."
Just 'cuz I'm obsessed with the Solo Don't Starve characters, I'll try to say their origins here too. Walani - Most of my info comes from the wiki not my own research. It's generally agreed upon that she's Polynesian, more specifically Hawaiian given her nature and her love for surfing, as well as her darker skin and smaller eyes. I also believe she worked for a cargo ship company (Her examination quote for the Captain Hat is "If only the boss could see me now." and for the Gunpowder Barrel its "Hmm, was I in charge of keeping these stowed?") meaning even if she live in Hawaii by the time she was sent to the constant, she must have lived somewhere close the ocean. Wilbur - He's kind of an enigma to me. The only thing I know is that he did NOT originate from the Constant (Maxwell's quote for the Soggy Monkey (Wilbur before you unlock him) is "Well I suppose there's no sending you back now.") and, mainly judging from his clothing, might have been a performance monkey. I personally believe he was trained in a circus since he can speak (When inspecting bananas he says "'Nanas!") but I wouldn't say it's impossible for him to have been a street performer. I would like to note that in the Circus Poster in the William Carter Puzzles, there are two monkies wearing fezzes next to the ball the elephant is balancing on. It may have been possible that Wilbur was part of that circus as the "King" of the monkies though in Wolfgang's animated short, we never see any monkies at all. (Outside of the poster). tl;dr Wilbur might have preformed in a circus in America, but information is scarce. Woodlegs - Woodlegs is even more of an enigma to me. My main headcanon is that Woodlegs is not a real pirate (Given that he knows modern day things like waffles) and is either a roleplayer pretending to be a pirate (A la Wigfrid), or more likely, a schizophrenic who thinks he's a pirate (A la Don Quixote). I haven't read all of his quotes but it doesn't seem he makes any references to his origin, anywyas. Warbucks - I'll make this quick, since it's pretty obvious and he might not even be canon anymore. He's British. Wilba - Born in the Hamlet in the Palace City with Queen Malfalfa. The only thing I can really add is that she somehow knows Maxwell, referring to him as "Mr. Meany Pants" as well as being the only character aside from Woodie to know who planted Maxwell's Tooth Trap. Wheeler - The surname "Wheeler" (Yes, Wheeler is NOT her first name) is of English origin, although it seems to be popular in America especially around the time Don't Starve takes place in. She also reports having a history of playing Stickball, a game commonly played in Northeastern US, notably New York City and Philadelphia. I haven't done that much research on her quotes but, I'm pretty sure she's American, or at least born in America.

Wheeler apparently has tons of American mannerisms/expressions so she must come from the US, and as a bonus it’s implied that Walani spent some time as a pirate
So thing about communist and USSR is that, it's not a requirment, prior to WW1 really, communist ideas existed and Germany was considered the lead on the concepts for a period of time after world war 1
While this makes sense, it doesn't fit with the context. The quote is about a hammer and sickle, not communism directly. I'm not very familiar with that time period so I could just be mistaken but wasn't the hammer and sickle specific to the USSR?
When you mentioned that Wormwood was brought over from Hamlet to the mainland, it reminded me of a little detail (intentional or not) that I noticed, specifically about which of the DLC characters got added to DST. I think it would make sense that, out of all the survivors in the Shipwrecked and Hamlet lineup, Warly and Wormwood would be the only ones who would voluntarily leave their current living situation and go to the mainland, likely due to the promise of companionship.
In some cirilic languages (at least in bulgarian) Baba means grandma. It would make sence that Wandas grandma used to make taffy for her when she was young.
Wolfgang is probably Eastern European-born French person. His official backstory contains this: "..His quest would lead him across Europe and eventually even across the Atlantic to America..." The fact that he travelled at some point across Europe (well, East to West) and his quote for Pearl's House "This no place for someone's babushka" likely implies his Eastern European origin. "Babushka" in russian means grandma, and is sometimes used in other Eastern European languages. I am dismissing the "need sickle" quote simply because the communist sickle and hammer symbol most likely did not exist at the time he was taken into the constant. It was first used in 1917, while Wolfgang met Maxwell in 1904 (train crash) and Maxwell went to the constant in 1906 (after the earthquake). While it is possible that Maxwell teleported him after 1917, even if it was a few years after that, it is unlikely Wolfgang would have known of this emblem, as he was already in United States. So, thankfully, Wolfgang is not a communist and the quote could just be a coincidence of the tools he frequently saw in the past (pitchfork quote "Reminds me of childhood" implies he was in a farming/working family). The most important quote is the frog legs quote: "Is delicacy in my country!". Although some European countries such as Slovenia eat frog legs, I think the hint is on France as, I assume, it is much more widespread in France than anywhere else. I also dont think his name should really be taken into account, because of course any person can be named in any country's name. It is not that uncommon if you think about it. Assuming Wolfgang is in late 30s - 40s, I think his story is this: he was born in Eastern Europe, travelled to France and settled there fore a while in early adulthood (enough time to make France "his country") and eventually decided to travel to the United States.

11:23 it's implied that they're all taken from diffrent times as in the shipwrecked dlc a trinket you can find i s a license plate which Wickerbottom seems to not recognize while Wes is in a city with clearly visible cars, however in Wickerbottom's cinematic we see the early interations of firetrucks show up, with her having a fire extinguisher which uses water instead of foam so the world is a lil anachronistic
License plates first became mandatory in New York in 1901 but they didn't look the same. By 1910 however they looked pretty similar to modern license plates. Given Wickerbottom's library burnt down in 1911 she almost certainly knows what a license plate is so that's probably just a blunder on Klei's part.
i really hope wortoxes skill tree allows him to become a mini karmpus or mini klaus just feels it would be nice since he refers to them as kin and it would be nice if her resembled them more

One thing I wanted to point out though, Warly seems to have roots in Louisiana, and given that French is a big part of his personality/speech, evidence points towards him being of Cajun origins. Cajun cuisine is described as “[with heritage that] reflects French, Spanish, American Indian, German, and Afro-Caribbean influences. Cajun food is the result of this assimilation or ‘cultural blending’.”

I thought you meant the florid plastern at first (which technically all the survivors hop through) but the quote is for the ancient gateway. This could mean he's from the forge but could be anywhere. He also says "That's how you get imps." when it's activated. Given he calls himself an imp and when he joined the game, it's likely he hopped through to the constant after the survivors first activated the gateway and we had the forge and gorge events. I don't think Krampus lead him to the Constant from wherever he came from though as Krampii have been here since before the gateway was activated and there's no evidence in favor of that theory. Likely he met with Wortox after he arrived.
Just realised that Wolfgang worked in a circus. A train with Maxwell crashed there. If you know where the train left from or was headed Wolfgang is somewhere around there
When talking about Wolfgang: the bare fact he makes references to communist symbols doesn't mean he's Russian. Now we associate communism mostly with USSR or Russia, but in the times when DS plot takes place (the beggining and early teen years of XX century) communism was really popular political view and many people across the world claimed it. However he makes reference to the world "babushka" which is mostly used in eastern-slavic countries, so he propably has Russian, Ukrainian or Belarussian heritage, maybe his Grandma was from this region. Since he refers to Franca as "his country" that's propably where he was born and raised, maybe one or even both of his parents were French, but I would go with only one of them. His other parent was propably German and wanted to preserve his son's Germanian heritage by giving him German name. Then of course he emigrated to USA, but by his poor English we can see his not native. To me this theory of him being born in a multi-cultural family makes a lot of sense and brings all the hints Klei gave us together
My Head Canon is that Wolfgang is Russian but has a bunch of mixed nationality relatives who tricked him into thinking frog legs were Russian, and, of course, gave him a German name just to confuse us specifically

You can only see that text through looking at the dialogue files for Wes, while in-game, that dialogue would be expressed as random animations of him doing a mime routine. He’s saying he’s flattered that you’d go as far as to look at game files to understand him.
Regarding Wigfrid, I believe she’s British. Even if we ignore the architecture of her house being excessively European, America didn’t see its opera boom until the 1930s, at least not the point where it would headline. But most pressingly is at the end of her short, her disappearance is published in a newspaper called the Courier: a Scottish newspaper. However, the first newspaper she’s reading is The Chronicle, a very famous English Newspaper. While Edinburgh has many venues for opera like the King’s Theatre, one is acclaim would likely travel to London often to perform. And most likely operatic news would not be much covered in Scottish publications. So I believe Wigfrid lives in a large home in Scotland and operates around Britain, most importantly London, and would likely have the newspaper of London mailed to her home due to its relevance-and we see such memorabilia on the walls It explains why we see two different newspapers: the metropolitan news of a soprano being scrutinised, and then the local news of a celebrity resident going missing. This might also be a jab at maxwells deal: that she does not even headline in the newspaper she was reading but only makes local news.

I’d assume, since there are cars in Wagstaff’s short, DST takes place around 1900, so for Wolfgang, close enough to France, German name, and communist, I’d presume Austria. Close to France, has German people, and in the years since 1848, it was having troubles with communist riots, especially with student age people, who in 1848, probably could have been Wolfgang’s parents. TLDR: Wolfgang is from Austria

News about Winona and Charlie: In their cabin they have a wall scroll and inscence stick (and something that might be dumplings in a bowl?), implying East Asian heritage. This might also explain the lunar new year event since its commonly celebrated in Eastern asia.
10:38 my headcanon is that he is Ukrainian or at least partially based on real Ukrainian with the title of strongest man on Earth named Ivan Fedorovitch Firtsak. 1. He lived under Austria-Hungary 19 years , so there's some chance he could know German. 2. In Transcarpathia (region of Ukraine that was briefly under Czechoslovakia between 2 world wars) there's a tradition of eating frog legs , which was due to contact with french people who either trespassed , or lived in Transcarpathia. 3. He for some time worked in circuses and even found Transcarpathian circus school. Honestly the only thing that breaks this headcanon for me is communism. Soviets confiscated all of his awards , and his son was accused to work with OUN (organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists) due to which he was put on 25 years in work camps . Hell , the reason he's died was not because of age , but because he couldn't go abroad and buy himself bone implant for his neck , and soviets didn't produced such an implants

For Wolfgang, his quote for the unfinished Pearl's house is "This is no place for someone's babushka.", where "babushka" is the Russian word for grandmother. Additionally, when examining a tamed beefalo, he says it reminds him of "the cavalry". Depending on when the game is set, he very well could have been a Don Cossack, ergo ethnically a Cossack, which are usually from around an area spanning between nowadays Southern Russia to East Ukraine.
I think Wortox is probably from outside the constant. Travelling between realms is something we've seen him do, and he stated that he came to the constant via the gateway, so I think it's rather likely. I know him coming from another part of the constant to the part we see is a possibility, but I just prefer to see him as completely outside of it to further cement that he has no stake in the constant's situation and that it truly is just a game to him.
Wortox was once a Klaus friend, and he wasn't very strong to teleport through realms, and gained powers only after defeating Klaus So he at least originates from constant

"biscuit" is the British analogue for a cookie. it's literally just one single quote but it has evidence to not be overlooked!
Eastern Germany for Wolfgang is a no go: sanfran earthquake from Maxwell was in 1906, you have to wait for more than 40 years for the end of WWII. He's likely German: they have frog legs in Germany, the name is a giveaway and communism became very popular there before and during the great war. I'd also argue for Winona and Charlie to be Italian US immigrants: Winona's name is native American in origin, but due to the vowel it has an Italian sound. I don't think Charlie was used very much as a feminine name at that time, so it has to be short for Charlotte or maybe Carlotta, an Italian name.
I think that Wolfgang is a french communist with a german heritage His name is cleary germanic but it doesn't fit in with the frog legs so i think his german parent gave him this name but he's from france As for the sickle comment, wolgang lived at the end of 19th/beginning of 20th century (we know that because that's when the earthquake in San Francisco happend and that was caused when maxwell was taken) and before the 1st world war communism was a pretty big movement in all of europe so it makes sense that he "found" it in france
I always head cannoned that Willow was an Asian-American, because of two little details about her. Her name and lighter are likely based on Japanese Willow Lighters produced during the 1920s, and her quote for the Old Bell says “Is it New Year's Eve? Are there FIREWORKS?!” Which, ringing bells are a Buddhist tradition performed on New Years in Japan. She also has straight, black hair and is pale, but that could easily just be coincidental because of the art style. She possibly could have learned about these traditions before she was orphaned, from her parents who could have been immigrants, or after she was orphaned and became an adult, wherein she came to learn about her culture in her own time.
For wolfgang, i would say he was living in somewhere around Alsace, a region of France occupied by Germany between 1871 and 1945 which is most likely where DST happen, explainning name and frog part, France also get very close to go communist in the 50-60s especially, reincorcing the idea. For the « at america » part, america was very much eager of exotism do circus where a popular attraction attracting all circus around the world to it in the late 19th-early 20th century so here we go!
It is important to note that Wortox has been to the realm of Terraria, which is linked to many other games and dimensions, thus I doubt he's from the constant really. With all the possibilities of dimensions, DS is unlikely
Wolfgang refers to Pearl as a babushka in one of his inspection quotes which should put him in confirmed category as Russian. Frog legs are also Romanian delicacy as well but still doesn't preclude it from being other countries delicacies. He is most certainly an immigrant because he can't read or write in English at the time of entering the constant but while he's in the Constant he learns to read and write in English thanks to Wickerbottom (which explains his ability to read messages in bottles and signs in DST)
I'm very brand new, only starting my first playthrough like a week ago with two pro friends but I personally would think Wes would go in heavily implied. I may be wrong but from the quotes being French, there's also a lot of French speakers in Canada. And where he was preforming, Québec City looks a lot like how a French city would look.
Willow is probz a bit confusing for me since I know there was the whole popular japanese theory based on some aspects of her dialogue, but Willow was an orphan, she's probz most likely lived her life in the US, but her parents are never explained and probably never will be explained, so I don't think even Willow knows her roots, it's something that keeps me up at night for the past few years.
Some facts about Wolfgang are 1.He grew up in France 2.He likely has German parents 3.He is a communist So Wolf gang is either French or German if you don't read too much into his characteristics.
I have very thick German heritage but not just any German, Russian born German heritage. So I instinctively want to put him with that label. HOWEVER! Based on the story line of the game and Wolfgang's meeting of Maxwell during the train collision we know that took place BEFORE the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. The hammer and sickle symbol wasn't created until the Russian Revolution during 1917. Given Wolfgang was part of the circus in the United States, and given the general lack of cross continental communication at that time to the general public it is save to assume, I believe, the quote "Needs sickle" when inspecting the hammer a huge plot hole that should be retconned as it makes no sense. So given his name is Wolfgang (My great grandfather was born in the US but named Wolfgang from Russian Immigrants), it is on the safer side to think he has German heritage, but as you stated, may be an immigrant child raised or born in France. Lastly, he could be from south eastern Europe regions like Albania, Slovenia, etc as frog legs are consumed there as well (and in many other parts of the world like Spain, Portugal, Thailand, Korea, Italy, etc.) Considering he is part of a touring circus troupe it would not be unreasonable to assume he travels a lot globally. (Edit: I saw someone mention Austria and that is actually a great mention didn't think of that.) As for Warly, my instinct was Haiti as he is fluent in french and that was a french colony and french is still spoken there today. But that's just my theory.
Wolfgang's name makes more sense if you translate it with old Germanic namegiven's, where the "Wolf" actually stands for 'Weapon' instead, while "gang" means 'marsh'. Wolfgang is named as a marching weapon, which makes a lot of sense.
10:16 Basing on the word "baba" and out of little want to headcanon a cool character with my nationality, i'd set Wanda as a Ukrainian woman with some strong genetic roots from the general area that was sugested for her case in the video (For a little bit of context, "baba" is one of two words in ukrainian used for "grandma", so i figured it'd be a not that bad of a reasoning with how little we know about her canon heritage)
When examining an orange soda (shipwrecked trinket) Warly says "I'd prefer switcha... With a piece of duff." Both of which are traditional Bahamian foods. This is pretty heavy evidence he's from the Bahamas. That being said, the Shipwrecked trinkets have quite a few lore inconsistencies. Given he's FROM Shipwrecked though I'd wager it accurate.
WX-78 might be british , due to his quote while examining fish steake in solo shipwrecked . He tells that it misses chips. (Sorry , cant provide quote in full, ate all thw fish already)
I feel Wolfgang is probably south german or in one of the small germanic speaking countries in central europe and Wanda is like of west asian descent but since her name sounds "western" (unless I am wrong and it comes from another language family in which case be nice or I will cry) she might be born in the US
Wanda is broadly speaking a slavic name, so I would place her somewhere around Poland, but only basing on her name since it's typically polish. Nevertheless as You said it's really possible she has middle-eastern, or south-asian heritage
Baba can be an abbreviation of Babushka, which means grandmother in Russian. But this is a relatively crude abbreviation that grandchildren usually do not use in relation to their grandmothers. And besides, can you believe that Wanda is from Russia? I'm not.

My Wolfgang theory: First he can't be from Russia because the USSR did not exist until 1922, and the DS setting is from the early 1900s, I think Wolfgang comes from Alsace, this is a French region that was occupied by Germany after the Franco-Prussian war, so it may be that he was born there after the war, and after a while he went to the USA to work in the circus.
I mean comunisam was made in germany by carl marks so i think wolfgang is german who migrated to amrecia for job in circus or maybe his circus i word wide travel😃
I personally think that Wigfrid is either from Sweden or Norway. She references the mythology too much even for an actress who got into it, and her appearance just screams stereotypical viking, with red hair and pale skin. Her cinematic is fully black/white, so its safe to assume that her hair is red naturally, especially considering how none of the other characters have changed their appearance once they got into constant. As for the newspaper, Klei probably made it in English for the sake of the audience, but if you want to theorise you can also say that her parents wanted to make her learn English quicker by making her read books and newspapers in english, for example in order to let her perform for a wider audience.
Maybe Wolfgang is from Belarus? During WW1 it has been occupied by Germany, hence the name, but later became soviet, hence the communism. His favourite food is roasted potato. And he "Loves pierogi", which are of slav origin He's also said to have traveled through the entire Europe. Maybe, he stayed in France for an extended period of time. Except, the time periods don't quite match, do they?
I think wolfgang is french. The frog legs are the most straightforward clue, but france has always had communist sympathies, which would fit the hammer quote and as for the german name... I dont know, I find it believable that he would just be given it for some reason.

I saw a cool theory/speculation that Wolfgang is Slovenian, or has Slovenian heritage. Frog legs are popular in Slovenia, too. The country also had a period where Communism was highly relevant in its politics, and it has both Slavic and Germanic roots. Which explains the Germanic name (Wolfgang).

3:10 Another thing for Warly, he describes evergreens as "soldiers of the exotic forest" which is further proof that he is most likely from the Caribbean or surrounding islands. By definition, exotic means "originating in a distant foreign country". Evergreen trees are fairly common all over the world, except in tropical islands, where they are more rare and could thus be considered exotic by the people who live there.
Edit: You might also have a point on Winona being Canadian - when examining Maxwell in DST, she calls him a hoser - a slang term originating and very widespread in Canada, which is also coincidentally frequently used by Woodie as well...

But since you asked, here's my interpretation of several of the 'ambiguous' characters:
First off, Wolfgang. You may think it's confusing how he refers to many European cultures as his homeland, but there could be an easy explanation for that: His family comes from various different areas of Europe, his mother and his father could potentially be from different countries, and their family could also be from mixed cultures.
Another theory is that he was born in the Polish partitions, specifically the Russian one. Since he has several quotes which hint that he is also familiar with the polish culture (Pierogi "Wolfgang love pierogi", Polish cookies: "brings back good memories", and cabbage rolls "Wolfgang likes his cabbage rolls smothered in sourkrout!", although this one is more so mixed-culture, sourkrout is a generally popular Central European ingredient.)
I would say his parents are polish and french, with backgrounds in different cultures due to the partitions themselves and the impact they had on the country. He has traveled a lot, and likely often visited his family in France. At some point he joined in with the German army, due to his unused skin having a pickelhaube (a common German helm from the time), and after he retired/resigned, he was met with the offer to join the circus, and from then on he travelled a lot, eventually landing in the US, where he stumbled upon William Carter.
Now, Willow: I would say Willow is American wirh japanese heritage, as she has several indicators in her quotes and more thst she's very familiar with Japanese culture. Pretty sure James Bucket made a video on it, but her quote for Old Bell is : "Is it New Year's Eve?! Are there fireworks?!" Indicates that she's familiar with the customs there, possibly celebrated it herself at some point.
There are also theories that speculate Bernie is meant to be a Hōko or Amagatsu doll (although not exactly traditionally made) since he protects her from evil aka the shadows. Those dolls were made with human hair as a part of their makeup, and Bernie does in fact have hair in his crafting menu.
And lastly WX-78. I agree with you that they were most likely build in the US, but there are hints in their quotes that may suggest their former self was from the UK

Wolfgang could also be a Volgo German, Germans living near the Volgo River in Russia, Pierogi isn't just a polish meal as Russia also means the same "пероги" (Perogi) spelt Pierogi in English. There were a few Germans that worked for Russia. For the pickelhaube it was also popular in Russia as well as Germany and Russia both. He is most likely born near a Volgo German community and served the Russian military at some point and then travelled around

As for Wolfgang... here's my new headcanon I just came up with this information

Funny enough my headcanon is basically the opposite. Born in Russia to a Russian parent and a German parent, moved to France as a teenager, at some point did a stint in the German military, eventually moved to the states alone to work and send money back to family.
There's also a somewhat apocryphal dev comment from years back about how Wolfgang getting weaker from hunger probably tied into "his secret backstory." Which leads me to believe that wherever he and his family lived, food was rather scarce.
Related to the above is his unused quote for cooked long pork; "Baba's secret recipe!" While incredibly gross and fucked up, it lends more creedence to the food scarcity thing. But "baba" here is interesting, because as previously mentioned, that word as a family diminutive is common across Eurasia. But more specifically, in many Slavic languages, it's a shortening of "grandmother."

Just 'cuz I'm obsessed with the Solo Don't Starve characters, I'll try to say their origins here too.
Walani - Most of my info comes from the wiki not my own research. It's generally agreed upon that she's Polynesian, more specifically Hawaiian given her nature and her love for surfing, as well as her darker skin and smaller eyes. I also believe she worked for a cargo ship company (Her examination quote for the Captain Hat is "If only the boss could see me now." and for the Gunpowder Barrel its "Hmm, was I in charge of keeping these stowed?") meaning even if she live in Hawaii by the time she was sent to the constant, she must have lived somewhere close the ocean.
Wilbur - He's kind of an enigma to me. The only thing I know is that he did NOT originate from the Constant (Maxwell's quote for the Soggy Monkey (Wilbur before you unlock him) is "Well I suppose there's no sending you back now.") and, mainly judging from his clothing, might have been a performance monkey. I personally believe he was trained in a circus since he can speak (When inspecting bananas he says "'Nanas!") but I wouldn't say it's impossible for him to have been a street performer. I would like to note that in the Circus Poster in the William Carter Puzzles, there are two monkies wearing fezzes next to the ball the elephant is balancing on. It may have been possible that Wilbur was part of that circus as the "King" of the monkies though in Wolfgang's animated short, we never see any monkies at all. (Outside of the poster).
tl;dr Wilbur might have preformed in a circus in America, but information is scarce.
Woodlegs - Woodlegs is even more of an enigma to me. My main headcanon is that Woodlegs is not a real pirate (Given that he knows modern day things like waffles) and is either a roleplayer pretending to be a pirate (A la Wigfrid), or more likely, a schizophrenic who thinks he's a pirate (A la Don Quixote). I haven't read all of his quotes but it doesn't seem he makes any references to his origin, anywyas.
Warbucks - I'll make this quick, since it's pretty obvious and he might not even be canon anymore. He's British.
Wilba - Born in the Hamlet in the Palace City with Queen Malfalfa. The only thing I can really add is that she somehow knows Maxwell, referring to him as "Mr. Meany Pants" as well as being the only character aside from Woodie to know who planted Maxwell's Tooth Trap.
Wheeler - The surname "Wheeler" (Yes, Wheeler is NOT her first name) is of English origin, although it seems to be popular in America especially around the time Don't Starve takes place in. She also reports having a history of playing Stickball, a game commonly played in Northeastern US, notably New York City and Philadelphia.
I haven't done that much research on her quotes but, I'm pretty sure she's American, or at least born in America.

While this makes sense, it doesn't fit with the context. The quote is about a hammer and sickle, not communism directly. I'm not very familiar with that time period so I could just be mistaken but wasn't the hammer and sickle specific to the USSR?
When you mentioned that Wormwood was brought over from Hamlet to the mainland, it reminded me of a little detail (intentional or not) that I noticed, specifically about which of the DLC characters got added to DST. I think it would make sense that, out of all the survivors in the Shipwrecked and Hamlet lineup, Warly and Wormwood would be the only ones who would voluntarily leave their current living situation and go to the mainland, likely due to the promise of companionship.
In some cirilic languages (at least in bulgarian) Baba means grandma. It would make sence that Wandas grandma used to make taffy for her when she was young.
Wolfgang is probably Eastern European-born French person. His official backstory contains this:
"..His quest would lead him across Europe and eventually even across the Atlantic to America..."
The fact that he travelled at some point across Europe (well, East to West) and his quote for Pearl's House "This no place for someone's babushka" likely implies his Eastern European origin. "Babushka" in russian means grandma, and is sometimes used in other Eastern European languages.
I am dismissing the "need sickle" quote simply because the communist sickle and hammer symbol most likely did not exist at the time he was taken into the constant. It was first used in 1917, while Wolfgang met Maxwell in 1904 (train crash) and Maxwell went to the constant in 1906 (after the earthquake). While it is possible that Maxwell teleported him after 1917, even if it was a few years after that, it is unlikely Wolfgang would have known of this emblem, as he was already in United States. So, thankfully, Wolfgang is not a communist and the quote could just be a coincidence of the tools he frequently saw in the past (pitchfork quote "Reminds me of childhood" implies he was in a farming/working family).
The most important quote is the frog legs quote: "Is delicacy in my country!". Although some European countries such as Slovenia eat frog legs, I think the hint is on France as, I assume, it is much more widespread in France than anywhere else. I also dont think his name should really be taken into account, because of course any person can be named in any country's name. It is not that uncommon if you think about it.
Assuming Wolfgang is in late 30s - 40s, I think his story is this: he was born in Eastern Europe, travelled to France and settled there fore a while in early adulthood (enough time to make France "his country") and eventually decided to travel to the United States.

11:23 it's implied that they're all taken from diffrent times as in the shipwrecked dlc a trinket you can find i s a license plate which Wickerbottom seems to not recognize while Wes is in a city with clearly visible cars, however in Wickerbottom's cinematic we see the early interations of firetrucks show up, with her having a fire extinguisher which uses water instead of foam so the world is a lil anachronistic
License plates first became mandatory in New York in 1901 but they didn't look the same. By 1910 however they looked pretty similar to modern license plates. Given Wickerbottom's library burnt down in 1911 she almost certainly knows what a license plate is so that's probably just a blunder on Klei's part.
i really hope wortoxes skill tree allows him to become a mini karmpus or mini klaus just feels it would be nice since he refers to them as kin and it would be nice if her resembled them more

I thought you meant the florid plastern at first (which technically all the survivors hop through) but the quote is for the ancient gateway. This could mean he's from the forge but could be anywhere. He also says "That's how you get imps." when it's activated. Given he calls himself an imp and when he joined the game, it's likely he hopped through to the constant after the survivors first activated the gateway and we had the forge and gorge events.
I don't think Krampus lead him to the Constant from wherever he came from though as Krampii have been here since before the gateway was activated and there's no evidence in favor of that theory. Likely he met with Wortox after he arrived.

When talking about Wolfgang: the bare fact he makes references to communist symbols doesn't mean he's Russian. Now we associate communism mostly with USSR or Russia, but in the times when DS plot takes place (the beggining and early teen years of XX century) communism was really popular political view and many people across the world claimed it. However he makes reference to the world "babushka" which is mostly used in eastern-slavic countries, so he propably has Russian, Ukrainian or Belarussian heritage, maybe his Grandma was from this region. Since he refers to Franca as "his country" that's propably where he was born and raised, maybe one or even both of his parents were French, but I would go with only one of them. His other parent was propably German and wanted to preserve his son's Germanian heritage by giving him German name. Then of course he emigrated to USA, but by his poor English we can see his not native. To me this theory of him being born in a multi-cultural family makes a lot of sense and brings all the hints Klei gave us together

You can only see that text through looking at the dialogue files for Wes, while in-game, that dialogue would be expressed as random animations of him doing a mime routine.

Well, Wolfgang was part of a traveling circus that traveled by train, so honestly the dude’s been all over Europe most likely before the crash.
Regarding Wigfrid, I believe she’s British. Even if we ignore the architecture of her house being excessively European, America didn’t see its opera boom until the 1930s, at least not the point where it would headline. But most pressingly is at the end of her short, her disappearance is published in a newspaper called the Courier: a Scottish newspaper.
However, the first newspaper she’s reading is The Chronicle, a very famous English Newspaper. While Edinburgh has many venues for opera like the King’s Theatre, one is acclaim would likely travel to London often to perform. And most likely operatic news would not be much covered in Scottish publications. So I believe Wigfrid lives in a large home in Scotland and operates around Britain, most importantly London, and would likely have the newspaper of London mailed to her home due to its relevance-and we see such memorabilia on the walls
It explains why we see two different newspapers: the metropolitan news of a soprano being scrutinised, and then the local news of a celebrity resident going missing. This might also be a jab at maxwells deal: that she does not even headline in the newspaper she was reading but only makes local news.

I’d assume, since there are cars in Wagstaff’s short, DST takes place around 1900, so for Wolfgang, close enough to France, German name, and communist, I’d presume Austria. Close to France, has German people, and in the years since 1848, it was having troubles with communist riots, especially with student age people, who in 1848, probably could have been Wolfgang’s parents.

10:38 my headcanon is that he is Ukrainian or at least partially based on real Ukrainian with the title of strongest man on Earth named Ivan Fedorovitch Firtsak. 1. He lived under Austria-Hungary 19 years , so there's some chance he could know German.
2. In Transcarpathia (region of Ukraine that was briefly under Czechoslovakia between 2 world wars) there's a tradition of eating frog legs , which was due to contact with french people who either trespassed , or lived in Transcarpathia.
3. He for some time worked in circuses and even found Transcarpathian circus school.
Honestly the only thing that breaks this headcanon for me is communism. Soviets confiscated all of his awards , and his son was accused to work with OUN (organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists) due to which he was put on 25 years in work camps . Hell , the reason he's died was not because of age , but because he couldn't go abroad and buy himself bone implant for his neck , and soviets didn't produced such an implants

For Wolfgang, his quote for the unfinished Pearl's house is "This is no place for someone's babushka.", where "babushka" is the Russian word for grandmother. Additionally, when examining a tamed beefalo, he says it reminds him of "the cavalry". Depending on when the game is set, he very well could have been a Don Cossack, ergo ethnically a Cossack, which are usually from around an area spanning between nowadays Southern Russia to East Ukraine.
Not only Cossacks ride on horses. France employed cuirasseurs in 1ww.
I think Wortox is probably from outside the constant. Travelling between realms is something we've seen him do, and he stated that he came to the constant via the gateway, so I think it's rather likely. I know him coming from another part of the constant to the part we see is a possibility, but I just prefer to see him as completely outside of it to further cement that he has no stake in the constant's situation and that it truly is just a game to him.
Wortox was once a Klaus friend, and he wasn't very strong to teleport through realms, and gained powers only after defeating Klaus

I always head cannoned that Willow was an Asian-American, because of two little details about her. Her name and lighter are likely based on Japanese Willow Lighters produced during the 1920s, and her quote for the Old Bell says “Is it New Year's Eve? Are there FIREWORKS?!” Which, ringing bells are a Buddhist tradition performed on New Years in Japan. She also has straight, black hair and is pale, but that could easily just be coincidental because of the art style.
She possibly could have learned about these traditions before she was orphaned, from her parents who could have been immigrants, or after she was orphaned and became an adult, wherein she came to learn about her culture in her own time.
For wolfgang, i would say he was living in somewhere around Alsace, a region of France occupied by Germany between 1871 and 1945 which is most likely where DST happen, explainning name and frog part, France also get very close to go communist in the 50-60s especially, reincorcing the idea.

Wolfgang refers to Pearl as a babushka in one of his inspection quotes which should put him in confirmed category as Russian. Frog legs are also Romanian delicacy as well but still doesn't preclude it from being other countries delicacies. He is most certainly an immigrant because he can't read or write in English at the time of entering the constant but while he's in the Constant he learns to read and write in English thanks to Wickerbottom (which explains his ability to read messages in bottles and signs in DST)
I'm very brand new, only starting my first playthrough like a week ago with two pro friends but I personally would think Wes would go in heavily implied. I may be wrong but from the quotes being French, there's also a lot of French speakers in Canada. And where he was preforming, Québec City looks a lot like how a French city would look.

Willow is probz a bit confusing for me since I know there was the whole popular japanese theory based on some aspects of her dialogue, but Willow was an orphan, she's probz most likely lived her life in the US, but her parents are never explained and probably never will be explained, so I don't think even Willow knows her roots, it's something that keeps me up at night for the past few years.
Some facts about Wolfgang are 1.He grew up in France 2.He likely has German parents 3.He is a communist So Wolf gang is either French or German if you don't read too much into his characteristics.
I have very thick German heritage but not just any German, Russian born German heritage. So I instinctively want to put him with that label. HOWEVER!
Based on the story line of the game and Wolfgang's meeting of Maxwell during the train collision we know that took place BEFORE the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. The hammer and sickle symbol wasn't created until the Russian Revolution during 1917. Given Wolfgang was part of the circus in the United States, and given the general lack of cross continental communication at that time to the general public it is save to assume, I believe, the quote "Needs sickle" when inspecting the hammer a huge plot hole that should be retconned as it makes no sense.
So given his name is Wolfgang (My great grandfather was born in the US but named Wolfgang from Russian Immigrants), it is on the safer side to think he has German heritage, but as you stated, may be an immigrant child raised or born in France. Lastly, he could be from south eastern Europe regions like Albania, Slovenia, etc as frog legs are consumed there as well (and in many other parts of the world like Spain, Portugal, Thailand, Korea, Italy, etc.) Considering he is part of a touring circus troupe it would not be unreasonable to assume he travels a lot globally. (Edit: I saw someone mention Austria and that is actually a great mention didn't think of that.)
As for Warly, my instinct was Haiti as he is fluent in french and that was a french colony and french is still spoken there today. But that's just my theory.
Wolfgang's name makes more sense if you translate it with old Germanic namegiven's, where the "Wolf" actually stands for 'Weapon' instead, while "gang" means 'marsh'.

This is pretty heavy evidence he's from the Bahamas. That being said, the Shipwrecked trinkets have quite a few lore inconsistencies. Given he's FROM Shipwrecked though I'd wager it accurate.

Wanda is broadly speaking a slavic name, so I would place her somewhere around Poland, but only basing on her name since it's typically polish. Nevertheless as You said it's really possible she has middle-eastern, or south-asian heritage

My Wolfgang theory: First he can't be from Russia because the USSR did not exist until 1922, and the DS setting is from the early 1900s, I think Wolfgang comes from Alsace, this is a French region that was occupied by Germany after the Franco-Prussian war, so it may be that he was born there after the war, and after a while he went to the USA to work in the circus.

I personally think that Wigfrid is either from Sweden or Norway. She references the mythology too much even for an actress who got into it, and her appearance just screams stereotypical viking, with red hair and pale skin. Her cinematic is fully black/white, so its safe to assume that her hair is red naturally, especially considering how none of the other characters have changed their appearance once they got into constant. As for the newspaper, Klei probably made it in English for the sake of the audience, but if you want to theorise you can also say that her parents wanted to make her learn English quicker by making her read books and newspapers in english, for example in order to let her perform for a wider audience.
