Seems like a great theory, but there were a few things I think you may have missed that I would like to point out. Perhaps no one shadow entity imprisoned Daywalker, but rather, in his pursuit of power, he found a shadow rift and jumped into it, getting filled with power from the pure horror within, but his selfishness caused him to lash out at the other shadow creatures he found within it, or perhaps the shadelings inside, who were not yet fused with pure horror to become fused shadelings, tried to latch on and feed of his acquired horror, which is why he complains that the power he found is all his and no one else can have it. Either way, the shadelings latched on to him, and, as you mentioned, likely became the shadow chains. Dreadstone is shown to rise out of cracks in the ground, so perhaps the shadelings were able to use the power absorbed to fuse with some dreastone as it erupted from the ground, turning themselves into chains and leaving the nightmare werepig stuck so that they could feed off of his power. Another thing I would like to point out is that They or Them may actually be multiple entities instead of just one, and in my opinion likely specifically two, with one of them already being named as Alter, given Maxwell's and Wortox's quotes of the murals found in the archives, and I bet that we already know the other entity's name as well. The main basis from this theory comes from a reddit post, but basically, Alter and the shadows are all opposites of each other, with the moon all being about light and reflections from its water pools and glass, while the shadows are all about darkness and, well, shadows. Additionally, all the moon stuff comes from the sky, with many characters even call the lunar rifts looking like space, while shadows literally come out of cracks in the ground, become more prevalent the deeper you go, and many characters comment on how dreadstone seems to be growing out of the ground. As such, what would be the opposite of the name Alter, a name Maxwell and Wortox originally mistake for meaning to change? To be Constant, the name of the planet we play on. Given the fact that one of them is mistaken for a moon, it would make perfect sense for the other one of them to also be a planetary body, and the fact that the Constant is the shadow Them would explain why shadows are the dominate force on the mainland, with Alter only being able to affect it when it is at its peak in power or has a piece of it literally on the mainland, and its power is pretty much ineffective on the caves, which are deeper into the shell of the Constant and thus closer to its power. Alter's power is shown to come from its glowy eye in the center of the "moon" so it would make sense for the shadow power to originate from the center of the Constant, which is why shadow rifts and dreadstone come out of the ground. Similarly to how, before awakened by repairing all of the lunar alters and starting a permanent full moon, Alter has a cycle of power that is mistaken for the lunar cycle, it would make sense for Constant to also have cycle of power, which it does in the form of the nightmare cycle, and Constant can also be put in a (partially) awakened state by placing the nightmare key in the shadow gateway (completing the shadow altar?), which makes the nightmare cycle at its peak (I also think the whole weird symbols on the murals that seem to slightly resemble lunar cycle markings are meant to represent the nightmare cycle). This also makes Charlie fully awakening Constant a very bad idea, as when Alter was awakened its entire outer shell blew off, and we are on Constant's outer shell.
Also, how does the sun tie into all of this. With both the planet and the moon being Them entities, wouldn't it make sense for the sun to be connected to this all somehow too? In real life, the moon only gets its glow from reflecting the sun, unlike in Don't Starve where it glows from its internal power, but also in real life Earth's primary source of energy is the sun, and shadows only exist when the sun shines on them.

Something not related to the daywalker, but of interesting note is the sun. In Don’t Starve there are 2 main powerhouses: the shadows and the moon. But what about the sun? During the day, there has to be something emitting light and it can’t be the moon because it only emits enough light on full moons. The sun could just be another part of the world that Maxwell made, or it could be another entity able to emit enough light every day to stave off the shadows.
I think if it was made by Maxwell it would be somewhat related to shadows since the power to create was given to Maxwell by Nightmare Throne which seems to be made out of NMF or something similar to that.
@@Dexter42069i’m not sure how to feel about the sun being a product of maxwell as yes, the ancients when they were on the surface worshipped the moon and (i believe) there is no reference of the sun. However, a lack of sunlight makes agriculture a little, hard. You could argue that Altar just made it happen, but i’m pretty sure polar lights don’t count toward plant growth in the night while dwarf stars do. Same for with moonlight. You could also argue thats just because we aren’t worshipping Altar enough. I also feel like it’s a bit absurd to argue that maxwell on the nightmare throne was able to muscle into the sky a force that seemingly acts against fuel, and remains active in the sky for varying amounts of time. Than again altar was just kinda fucking off back then, so i’unno, but i feel like Maxwell doing that would almost certainly get altar up and running. It’s just that we don’t really have anything to make us believe the sun was there to begin with or artificially made beyond mere reasoning. Continuing with reasoning, i feel like if klei wanted us to believe the sun wasn’t there to begin with, they would’ve hinted at it or put emphasis on it.
The sun and fire are two things very ambiguous in don’t starve. We see the sun in the UI but that’s about it, shadows hate fire and light in general. Alters power doesn’t have the same look as normal fire and daytime, so maybe the sun is something beyond even The Shadows and Alters power. I do agree with others, Maxwell and Charlie don’t seem like the types to actively handicap their own power. Maxwells power comes from the shadows, same with Charlie she literally can’t be out near any kind of light. If Maxwell made the sun, why would she keep it around? We see her altering things he’s made for her own gain. So why keep the sun if it actively prevents you from moving freely?
Honestly the whole dark tatters thing is the evidence that proves it in my mind that he and daywalker are related in regards to the origins of daywalkers curse
We don't know that Pig King isn't a werepig. Just because he doesn't transform doesn't mean he can't transform. We know of two characters who can resist transformation: Wilba, using her silver necklace, and Woodie after pledging allegiance to the moon. The moon has the ability to protect it's followers from what appears to be a shadow curse. It's not farfetched to believe that Pig King is either a devote follower of the moon, has a stash of silver, or simply broke the curse in another way that his followers don't have access to or simple don't care to. The pigs seem half feral so it also not farfetched to believe that they don't care to protect themselves outside of going indoors during the night (to avoid the moon and/or the shadow). The pig guards might not go home because the werepig powers are too useful to them as warriors.
Point #2 was even almost touched on here, where Slasher says that the Pig Elder could have sent the Silver Necklace to the Hamlet. There's never any clarification that she knows anything more than "Papa sent this", and with nothing to support who her father actually is the Queen could have just told her it was a gift from "Papa" to stop her from thinking into it too much
The notion that guard pigs willingly accept the lycanthropy to be better warriors reminds me of the gladiators from the Colosseum of Fools in Hollow Knight
When Wilba examines a birdcage, she says "WILBA WAS'T ENCAGE'D ONCE". Perhaps she was captured by the werepigs and/or some other group. Then again, it could be her referencing being grounded by Queen Malfalfa for losing the royal crown. I also found it interesting that the shape of the pendant on the Silver Necklace resembles the adornment on top of the Pugalisk ruins entrance in Hamlet. Great video, by the way! I can tell that a lot of thought and research went into this. Keep up the good work!
It's being a pleasure watching you grow. It didn't suprise me how good you made your theories when they started coming out. Your comedic timing is excelent and the way you made your videos from before the "Voice era" where fantastic structurally to the point some of their DNA can be found in modern gaming media on todays youtube.

52:30 maybe Daywalker gave Wilba the necklace so ancient Harold would not be able to figure out who Daywalker's child was... Because maybe the reason he is chained up... Was because he went back on his deal to sacrifice his child, maybe after having Wilba he couldn't bring himself to use her, and this he is left to rot, his mind degrading as the shadows continue to corrupt him, but some part of him wanting to fight them off hence the parasite shadowlings not being on Daywalker's good side, as those things in the form of chains might be pumping more pure horror into his body, until the pig he was is gone for good
its interesting that Daywalker is coherent in the first place. we see with other pigs that turning makes them nothing more then wild animals with Wilba barely doing anything more then growling. Daywalker could be as intelligent as the other hamlet pigs but the lycanthropy is dropping him down to the intelligence of the average constant pig. edit: spelling errors
god i love the way you make those videos. They give off that "theory vibe", and while i see that they are difficult to make i encourage you to continue making them

I've been wondering what this thing's deal was ever since it was added but it felt like literally no one else cared, thank you Mr. 342 these theories are certainly my favorite videos from you
I find it really interesting how it almost feels Klei is creating connections to the five missing characters with these updates. With the Moon Quay stuff harkening to Wilbur, Woodlegs, and Walani, and Daywalker obviously being tied to Wilba (and potentially Wheeler by association) it almost feels like they’re trying to tie them into the story again. I’d love for that to be the case.
Good video, but the theory is just too hard to swallow. Especially now that we know that Nightmares aren't a core part of Daywalker, given the Scrappy Scavengers trailer explicitly shows the Pure Horror draining from him without affecting his lycanthropy. The fact that he isn't Shadiw Aligned in Scrappy Werepig form makes me think that it's something else that caused him to become a Daywalking werepig. One idea that perhaps should have been explored further is the presence of pigs in the Gate realms. I don't think the pigs ever had control over the throne, but they did have control over the Gate, and used that to explore the gate realms. Being severed from the Hub might have actually been the Cane Bearer's doing,a punishment for using the power they sacrificed so much to seal. The 4th Metheus mural seems to indicate that the Cane Bearer's entrapment on the throne was directly link to the destruction of the Gate. But the Throne forces at least some loyalty to the Shadow Them,so Pugna saw it as Their doing. Remember, the Shadow Them want the Gate repaired above all else, why would They stop the pigs? Fuelweaver is not mentioned in the Metheus or Atrium murals, but we know he was there when Charlie and Maxwell arrived in the Constant thanks to the Maxwell rework trailer. Between Charlie being combined with the Night Monster and Charlie's reign, Fuelweaver was sealed into the Shadow Pieces; into Marble statues. Marble statues that have shadows inside of them. What is Daywalker chained to? Marble statues with concentrated nightmare fuel (if maxwell's quote is to be believed). Charlie is the one who most likely sealed Fuelweaver (an agent of the throne). Charlie belives that Maxwell damaged her in some way, leading to the Night Monster taking control. The Maxwell rework trailer indicates that Fuelweaver did that. Since Charlie believes that Maxwell is the only one who sat on the Throne, and Fuelweaver is an agent of the throne, Charlie is most likely the one who sealed Fuelweaver in marble, thus creating the precedent that would be followed by trapping Daywalker with marble pillars. *deep breath*THEREFORE, I believe Charlier trapped Daywalker. Daywalker is described as being a wild card, neither aligned the White (survivors), Black (Shadows), or Glass (Lunar) chess players. Perhaps she just punished him for being an unexpected spanner in the works? This would indicate option 3 as the most likely Daywalker origin, and it means Daywalker's ennightmaring happened during Charlie's reign.
I just realised, Wortox says "That's how you get imps" only when examining the Gateway with the key. Since Wortox doesn't seem to know the arthropidals, this implies the Gate was turned on after the nightmare fuel downfall, but before the survivors got in. This could be the time when Pugna and his pigs explored the gate realms.

Just binged all your lore videos in a single night, so good! I guess this is the only one where I'm not sure I agree with the central premise- that the Daywalker is the OG werepig. I think that if anything it is implied that the origins of the curse come from the building of the aporkalypse calendar, and I think that the blame for that can be attributed to the Pig King. In the case of both Mants and fruit flies, corruption happened from the top- installing a corrupted leader. I think that the Pig King is the one who was seduced by promises of perhaps immortality into creating the aporkalypse calendar, and the Trader king reference is itself a double entendre, because he betrayed his people. Suspicions that the corrupt power was too good to be true caused a rift in pig society, with the current queen being the head of the anti-corruption faction. When the pig king succeeded, to his dismay and regret, he found that this new faction was right. As he had been a useful tool, he was spared the werewolf curse and given long life, but the gift came with a price. The power that sustains him, channeled through the pillars around him, also binds him, making him immobile and mute. He trades with the player because it is one of his only ways of connecting with the outside world. So where does this leave the Daywalker? Simply put, he is a pig champion who attempted to use the corrupt power to fight against the corruption. The pigs in the village are interested in acquiring things touched by the corruption, perhaps in order to study it and break the curse. I think Daywalker might be another one of these types, except the conclusion that he came to was that if he could channel the power of the corruption, he could turn it against its master. But he did not expect to have a child who was also afflicted by the corruption he had deliberately infected himself with, and when confronted with the truth he went into exile to find greater power. Along the way he discovered the secret of silver, sending back the necklace in order that his daughter, at least, might be saved. But ultimately, he stared too long into the abyss, and it stared back, and his mind was overtaken by the corruption, and he himself was chained by the powers of corruption that he had tried to fight. Many characters react to seeing him chained with pity not just because he is trapped, but as a hint that his road to hell was paved with good intentions.
Another note: the fact that the pigs and mants do not attack each other on sight might actually be another reference to early Mesoamerican societies like the calendar. War between the city states of the area was at time highly ritualized, conducted according to specific rules. Though it is not the same civilization, the lack of conflict could be a reference to the Flower Wars of the later Aztec city states.
If the curse is passed down to other pigs when daywalker bites them, couldn't Wilbas dad be just a pig that had the curse passed to them? You did mention that the aporkalypse caused the "first generation" of werepigs if I'm remembering correctly. So the curse could of just been passed down through generations until Wilbas dad got it. Apologies if I did miss something, but if not, I hope this could help generate some expanded thoughts on the daywalker theory, loved the video!
its likely not mentioned bc it is a lot more interesting (and better storytelling due to the big mystery of it) if wilbas dad is a known/important character rather than some random werepig
Counterpoint: He has red markings on his arms and one on his eye that moves and glows with power. My theory is that he wanted to keep his werewolf form permanent or maybe even give it to EVERY pig by using the shadows. And using pure essence he could control the shadows and nightmares. Which could explain why he's so big, and also why he has some intelligence in this form, and it also can be the reason why he's chained is because he is abusing the nightmares and could want to become the ruler of all darkness and nightmares.
Just love seeing little theories like this. I know that I've been thinking about The Forge and Hamlet for quite a while now. You can see elements of Hamlet and The Forge crossing over. I'll have to put together a theory or document one day with all my thoughts.
I feel like, as an outsider, that daywalker was on the raid for the shadow throne and tried to take it for himself. Then while pugas was on the throne he imprisoned daywalker as punishment for mutiny
idk if this changes anything but Swine & Dine suggests pigs can be outside without turning if the moonlight doesn't touch them. It's just Walter telling a story but could be the case
perhaps wilba was grounded by fear from queen malfalfa about day walker i mean what better place to keep your daughter safe than a village surrounded by guards in a safe palace and though i do not believe wilba died I do believe malfalfa had some idea about day walker after he left so perhaps wilba didn't go to dst because malfalfa was afraid i mean who would send your daughter to a place with her insane father who may or may not want to kill her so this doesn't fit in anywhere but this is my theory why wilba isn't in dst also Maxwell in the Maxwell puzzles or what ever we see a diagram of a obelisk on Maxwells desk so perhaps the king paid for the blue print for obelisks
I love these theories videos and would love to see more in the future but.... Will you ever do a woodie theories in the future ? As of why he's cursed even before he got to the constant and how he even got there.... Could be an interesting subject lol ❤️
Perhaps the silver necklace is the cause of daywalkers' permanent lycanphropy? It channels it out of wilbur and into daywalker, allowing wilba to stay a pig and daywalker to stay a werepig. Would explain why he would have a child.
Based on him saying he was "first to find it" makes me think he sat on the thone and thats why he was chained. He was kicked off the thone and now hes desperate to get back.
Daywalker doesnt become normal after his powers get drained in scrappy scavengers trailer, hes still massive fur hunk but with cool gadgets So yeah thats it
With all the speculation on Why the Daywalker would give Wilba the Silver Necklace, there's no consideration for the very prevalent plot point of the First Aporkalypse and the Werepig rampage that happened then. If the Daywalker is Wilba's father and needs her for some purpose (sacrificial or other) then it makes sense to give her the means to conceal her lycanthropy to protect her from the other pigs. None of the others in the Hamlet have the curse, and it's highly likely they'd be hyper aware of any Werepigs in their presence due to the devastation they'd wrought beforehand; so hiding Wilba's curse is protecting her from being targeted by the Hamlet citizens.
Can't wait for what Klei might do with this Boss, maybe he'll be Lunar aligned after fighting him in the Scrap yard, basically he has different powers both the shadow, lycanthropy, and lunar
I think it'd be cool if daywalker after being freed attempted to use the junk that wagstaff left to try and make an air balloon to go see Wilba again, but failed as wagstaff turned him into a mechanical monster. A fake we now have to free him from
i did have a theory of the screecher/birds about a year ago but i forgot my theory, but i think it was something to how perhaps thats a creature in the real world and maxwell may have seen one and lived because the thunder birds in hamlet look like the head part of the screecher. Especially since whats left of the people in the screecher mode are normal sized humans.

With this theory klei should make a summer update ( new summer final boss)
The Ancient Herald is such an interesting character from Hamlet, the theories about him are really fun!
Honestly the whole dark tatters thing is the evidence that proves it in my mind that he and daywalker are related in regards to the origins of daywalkers curse
Honestly an updated ancient herald boss in Don’t Starve Together would be really cool
He is one of the few active ancients, yet he casually just spawns in during the aporkalypse
Yeah more don’t starve lore this is my favorite part of your channel keep up the amazing work
I think I might do shorter theories from here
@@slasher3428 when you occasionally drop these long videos it's a joy, please don't feel like you have to make them shorter
There's never any clarification that she knows anything more than "Papa sent this", and with nothing to support who her father actually is the Queen could have just told her it was a gift from "Papa" to stop her from thinking into it too much
@@mothichorror446 I deleted it because I realized he did mention it.
Daywalker, you're... NOT the father
Daywaker then runs off knowing child support aint got shit on him
No. He definitely might be him
It's being a pleasure watching you grow. It didn't suprise me how good you made your theories when they started coming out. Your comedic timing is excelent and the way you made your videos from before the "Voice era" where fantastic structurally to the point some of their DNA can be found in modern gaming media on todays youtube.
your ability to make complete meme videos contrasted with informative hour long lore theory dumps truly represents the duality of man
also I really like the theory and hope that some of it is true cause you were cooking on this one 🔥
52:30 maybe Daywalker gave Wilba the necklace so ancient Harold would not be able to figure out who Daywalker's child was... Because maybe the reason he is chained up... Was because he went back on his deal to sacrifice his child, maybe after having Wilba he couldn't bring himself to use her, and this he is left to rot, his mind degrading as the shadows continue to corrupt him, but some part of him wanting to fight them off hence the parasite shadowlings not being on Daywalker's good side, as those things in the form of chains might be pumping more pure horror into his body, until the pig he was is gone for good
13:32 I’m really happy you pointed that out because I notice how similar the pure horror creatures looked like to ancient herald
its interesting that Daywalker is coherent in the first place. we see with other pigs that turning makes them nothing more then wild animals with Wilba barely doing anything more then growling. Daywalker could be as intelligent as the other hamlet pigs but the lycanthropy is dropping him down to the intelligence of the average constant pig.

im fucking sorry an hour long
ladies and gentlemen i present to you the first time im ever going to use the watch later feature
Seeya then
alright let's do this shit
Alright he’s back!
slasher 342, This is awesome! I subscribed because I want to see more!
Watched this without even knowing it was an hour long. Love your lore theory videos.
Bro, I love these theory videos I don’t really play ds that much anymore but these videos single handily kept me interested in the game
Been watching for years and I love how far you’ve come since the OP guides from ages ago, love your theory series :3
Time to walk during day
Me walking when it’s day:
yoo don't starve so good they did it in real life, that's crazy.
god i love the way you make those videos. They give off that "theory vibe", and while i see that they are difficult to make i encourage you to continue making them

Spiderman 2099: Say that again
I have been waiting for this all day, not just because of a terrible piece of coursework I've been trying to get over.
I hope we find some way to make the course work for us.
Hah! The Doraleous and Associates reference, well played sir.
I kinda curious what a theory about clockworks would be like, they always have been interesting in my opinion, wonder if there are secrets or a story to be uncovered with them
Hey, awesome video. I always found your theory videos pretty cool, even if they're a weird addition to your normal content. Hope you keep doing them
I've been wondering what this thing's deal was ever since it was added but it felt like literally no one else cared, thank you Mr. 342 these theories are certainly my favorite videos from you
28:52 A Doraleous and Associates reference??? Never would've expected Neebs Gaming in a DST theory video
I wish you will continue even if this is very long to produce.
This type of stuff is just insane, even if i don't understood all of what your say (english is not my first language).
I watch your video since 4 years agos, with your OP caracter series.
You getting better and better on how you expose the theory, how you resume at the end. (added more text is really helpfull)
That all, i normally never comment video but in that case it's necessary... I need more video like this so don't forget us !
Also, i played a lot of DST it was my main game but i am far away of your level.
Sad :c
Glad to be early for this one, been waiting on it for a while
Slasher Is Back And Cooking again? How will we split all these memes?!
Among us
@@slasher3428good idea!
AND I JUST REALISED THIS IS AN HOUR LONG?! Wow! There’s a lot of memes to split among us!
Lemonade.
*I love lemons!*

Thank you so much
Been waiting for this upload for a while! Good work.
It was a huge one
i love every single theory video you make and this one is no exception!
this is a great video man ı love ur content. keep it up !!
I love how this is basically pig theory part 2, all thanks to a random big were pig
Oh my god an hour long theory video. Slasher you have outdone yourself
My life has purpose now, for a hour and 5 minutes at least
I really want another one of those theorys man this is just too good
This was the perfect length to listen to while i get some work done
DayWalker? I hardly know her!
Get the hell out of here!
I absolutely love your channel. And I wish I could catch more your streams
I'll have to put together a theory or document one day with all my thoughts.
great vid keep it up!
Since then daywalker got a second fight on the surface, proving that he is werrepig even when the sun is up
ive always want matpat to do theories on dst
This has been a certified Netflix adaptation moment
Daywalker fans when they meet The Fog. The Fog. The Fog. The Fog. You Need To Run
Herald looks like he got player hair. Also the Calendar has a design on it that matches that swoop thing on top of his head
I love these theories videos and would love to see more in the future but.... Will you ever do a woodie theories in the future ? As of why he's cursed even before he got to the constant and how he even got there.... Could be an interesting subject lol ❤️
Most likely maxwell promised a cure for his curse
If Klei adds wilba to DST we'll have so many answers
(also she's always just been my dream character in DST)
Perhaps the silver necklace is the cause of daywalkers' permanent lycanphropy?
It channels it out of wilbur and into daywalker, allowing wilba to stay a pig and daywalker to stay a werepig.
Would explain why he would have a child.
Based on him saying he was "first to find it" makes me think he sat on the thone and thats why he was chained. He was kicked off the thone and now hes desperate to get back.
I love these and hope you do more of them!!
DUDE Daamn Meatbug is exactly my steam account with this exact picture wtf
Random thing
In fat there is no trace of silver/iron ore
Maybe it was mined so much to prevent were wolves it's gone?
He has 4 pieces of silver
I think the gnaw is the only one getting the silver, and its just putting the silver in circulation.
Perhaps the only peoppe with silver are merms from the maw/ pigs that stole the silver from em?
Because pig king does have a private squadron
@slasher3428 also pig king is wearing silver jewelry, four pieces seeming to be silver are on his horns
I think you are the best don't starve content creator
The touch stone has multiple pig heads around it maybe those are sacrifices
You double down on your last pig theory awesome. Wilba’s father work with a demon instead of being a demon but has become a monster.
wake up honey slasher just dropped another dst theory
i like watching these and good theory kinda eye opening to what daywalker might have been
I subbed these are fun to listen to!
Daywalker doesnt become normal after his powers get drained in scrappy scavengers trailer, hes still massive fur hunk but with cool gadgets
So yeah thats it
With all the speculation on Why the Daywalker would give Wilba the Silver Necklace, there's no consideration for the very prevalent plot point of the First Aporkalypse and the Werepig rampage that happened then.
Elder pig gave Wilba her necklace, and she says it’s from her dad…

the fountain of youth could have slowed down wilbas development making so she took much longer to be born
1h theory, i will come back later, with snacks
I think it'd be cool if daywalker after being freed attempted to use the junk that wagstaff left to try and make an air balloon to go see Wilba again, but failed as wagstaff turned him into a mechanical monster. A fake we now have to free him from
moths late but i like to think daywalker is suppose to be the pig king at the other end of the brick road that has a pig village but no ruler
i did have a theory of the screecher/birds about a year ago but i forgot my theory, but i think it was something to how perhaps thats a creature in the real world and maxwell may have seen one and lived because the thunder birds in hamlet look like the head part of the screecher. Especially since whats left of the people in the screecher mode are normal sized humans.
