This is my review of the Digitech FreqOut pedal.
I don't like to deal with the hassles of micing a guitar cab, so I always use direct sounds in my studio. One disadvantage of this method is that you're not able to obtain feedback from the interaction of your guitar pickups and cabinet.
Enter the Digitech FreqOut pedal. This awesome pedal will allow you to obtain artificial feedback, but in a very natural way.
The FreqOut has Dry On/Off, latching or momentary operation. You can also set the pitch at which you want the feedback to occur.
The feedback onset lets you adjust the delay before feedback begins and the gain sets the feedback level to balance with your dry signal.

The numbers on the "type" knob don't refer to intervals - they refer to overtones. The first overtone is the fundamental frequency, the 2nd one is an octave up, the 3rd one is an octave + 5th, the fourth one would be two octaves, and the 5th one is 2 octaves + major 3rd. The "sub" would probably create a sub-harmonic an octave lower than the fundamental frequency.
Exactly
*Amazing demo ! Check it out ! **ua-cam.com/video/7I14asXpk_Y/v-deo.html*
*Great cover ! See that !**ua-cam.com/video/7I14asXpk_Y/v-deo.html*
This was the review I was looking for. Much appreciated.
Very enjoyable and informative demo! I just got the Freqout. I'm loving it! I'm subscribing!
This seems to be what I need. I find myself relying on my Sustainiac equipped guitar to get feedback sounds on demand but I would love to have the tones of my other passive neck pickups that I much prefer. This is the clear answer 🤙
just ordered this holy grail and really can't wait for it... great review!
got mine today..and instantly fell in love with it...such a great piece of gear
This is the first time I have come across this guy giving a review. This a great review. He walks you through the controls and how they respond. Just doesn't play and talk about the pedal, but actually shows how the pedal works like a guitar teacher would. Just FYI for anyone out there getting into pedals, you are going to come across a ton of pedal videos where they just wank off and talk about how great shit. This guy gets right down to the mechanics of the pedal which wastes no time. Will definitely check out more of his videos.
2:10 to skip to the demo and review
Thankyou for a honest review, your you tube channel has opened m eyes to a lot of different guitar Technics, Thank you
Great video my friend ! I'm watching your channel all the time, keep on it's awesome.
So beautiful tones!
God bless you man, finally a video that makes sense. I've seen dudes that talk, and talk AND talk spend time showing off some simple scales and dont really know how to use the gear let alone explain it lol and only play for seconds lol definitely subscribed. Good stuff brotha. You really broke it down, explained it and rocked it.
I already have their Drop pedal and I am looking forward to buying this one as well at some point.
Very nice job David! Thx. subscribed
Thanks! I was just about to ditch this one....now I'll think I'll keep it! Cheers!
Love the muted dry signal!!!
Hey David thanks for the great videos. What kind of chair are you sitting in? Looks crazy comfy... Do you have a video on it? If I recall correctly, only thing that I was bummed about was the power supply. Sold mine because I couldn't use it with my voodoo labs? Maybe I was doing something wrong? Thanks again homie
brilliant review. thanks so much. Tone on your kettle is unreal
Great Review
So, can I put it in the loop of my Headrush and just leave it on at a low setting to help it feel and sound more natural in a live setting? The lack of feedback on our silent stage is the only thing I miss about using an old style amp :/
Great video. Would you compare this to the Sustainiac pickup?
Hey man just bought one of these pedals...not arrived yet but was wonder if you could tell me whether it’s better to put it before all my pedals or at the end of my through pedals. I have in order from guitar, a tube streamer and an ep boost.
Thank you for this convincing demonstration. Quick question: where do you place this pedal on the Pedalboard? After the ODs and distortions and before the modulation pedals? Greetings from France.
Nice! Been looking
Would this work on a Godin Nylon string SA when just played through an amp without Synth ?
Excellent video
Id like to run 2 of these to 2 amps. Set one of them on a 3rd and the other to a 5th!
I love DigiTech, I still have a DigiTech gnx3 processor (15+ years old) that I still use daily! Thanks for the video, I bet that pedal is fun as hell to play with
What an innovation! Always trying to attain tone and dynamics in smaller venues or other "don't be so loud" circumstances. I want!
I never knew one of these existed !!!! I have to have one !!!
can you plug this into an expression pedal?
oh my finally tnx god! i found the amazing review for this pedal,😩😩😩 jeez sum of the video suk review. Ty for ur video men..i wanted so bad the feedbak from Sustaniac Guitar. I want to buy that! But i dont need it anymore!👍😊 im so happy they made pedal for feedbak! im buying this pedal tomorrow!☺️👏 ty
Hi i have a fuzz face jimi hendrix a wah cry baby pedal and a boss metal core in which position of my chain should i put the freqout?
nice video David! you think the pedal is still relevant almost 4 years later? I would like something like this to add some 'life' to my Fractal FM3 when doing live gigs. Cheers mate!
@David Walliman how does the freqout handle chords? I've watched loads of demo videos now but they all just demo the single note sustains. I'd love to hear how this pedal behaves when faced with big open stadium rock chords, particularly on the natural high and natural low modes. Would you be up for doing another quick demo?
Check one out at your local musical instrument dealer.
Nice video. I would've liked to hear the pedal react to a sustained chord. If you let the feedback establish on a single note and then slide that fretted note to a different fret, will the feedback reset or slide to the new pitch while sustaining?
I think it has a tolerance. You can do a vibrato and it will translate to feedback, but if you go too far out it will reset
I was hoping to hear what it would sound like in the middle of bending a note, although it seemed to do really well with the vibrato.
Great review, no ego 20 minute talking just gets on with it... well done.
I have a Question, I think its a Legit one, because it may be useful to others ............ Its well known that the sustain note will die once the signal fades , .....so what Im wondering is........lets say in a live setting, Volume up much higher than bedroom level ... Where you could "almost" get natural sustain/feedback on your own ............Would this pedal be a little better holding the sustained feedback in a higher volume scenario? as opposed to low volume playing. Maybe it COULD hold feedback for quite some time maybe.
Think this would work on an active acoustic?
Hi is this pedal a viable alternative to sustainiac pickups?
Ciao complimenti.... secondo Te il FreqOut va inserito come ultimo pedale dopo wha wha,distorsore,delay,chorus..? Oppure dove? Grazie ciao e complimenti!!!
Is this like having a fernandes sustainer on a pedal?
Now if they could come out with a mini version with just the setting you like and mentioned!
I'm in to win this beauty, wanted it for my birthday ahah. Cheers from switzerland !
mind blowing.
i wonder if they gonna come up with the rack mount version with all the footswitch and fancy expression pedal.
maybe this will be the next primary sound effect for the "solo" guitarist beside wah / crybaby pedal. if they don't want sustainer pickup installed on their guitar of course.
''I love it so much I'm gonna give it away''.... This cracked me up ! Very nice pedal. Can't wait to try one.
Do you still use this pedal? I just bought it, but I'm not sure, how useful it really is. I like to let a note ring, until the feedback changes to an obertone, and then finger slide to other notes on the same string. Easy with real feedback, but the Freqout often drops out.
Peter Jackson presents: Feedback the Movie
Seems like an awesome tool thats controllable. Lets be honest, holding your guitar in front of a big amp will get you feedback, but can you controll it?
Does anyone know what kind of power supply this pedal requires ? Voltage and mA ?
9v center negative 300mA
The thing that kills it for me is that the feedback just stops dead - no trailing off. It also has a ten second maximum, after which it just stops dead. The only thing that makes me think I should get one is because Digitech doesn't exist anymore, so there probably isn't going to be a better version coming out in the future from Harman.
You missed the Sub setting under Type.
Hello, Does this only work with an external adaptor? or does it also take a 9 Volt battery? Thanks. (and nice review), I gave you a Sub also.
Unfortunately yes, I think its only AC powered!
Thanks for reply David...
@@Wallimann where in the signal chain of a pedalboard should this go?
And it works with AXE Fx or Kemper as well, I persume???
It does, yeah!
Great !!
I want one
Now that’s exactly what was missing in my setup. I don’t use an amp (but an Eleven Rack and headphones) so no way to produce feedback like this. I definitly “need” this pedal...
where in signal chain would you recommend placing this
first, unless you're experimenting
Could you plug an expression pedal into this and control the level of feedback??
New Name It has a “momentary” switch that allows you to step on the pedal and hold the feedback with your foot until you take it off
Is new name a pedal?
Nice demo. Hey Digitech, offer David an exchange for a unit without a dead LED!
Hey David, seriously cool pedal, great vid. Do you think it would be bad form for us to enter considering we make pedals?...............screw it, I'm entering anyway :)
Thanks for the Vid...David there is one pedal I am checking out is called OMG Guitars for One Man Band, can be bought only on line, I am really interested but it sound too good to be true...can you share your opinion? Thanks.
I saw that, it looks interesting!
I'll see if I can check one out at NAMM next week!
Analog or digital?
I love how you play, id give a leg if I could learn how to use a pedal lol.
You wrote this a year ago, did you ever start playing or using pedals?
want
Frank Zappa Duke of Prunes is the first song that comes to mind when I hear this peddle .
"Mom"entary?
Which model ibanez is that?
RG920QM 👍
Uhhh...One of your LEDs is not working.
cool
if you have a helix put it in the loop so you can have it on in a preset.
Had this sold it.. totally regret it... gonna get it again
Lol what is Hyoogs and Kettner?
Where shoul it go in a pedalboard?
the special place where you switch it on and off frequently i guess.
I put it right at the end - it's a bit of a tone killer so having it in the middle of the chain makes it a bit of a pain to take out
Awesome!, you just sold one...
It's not infinite. in fact it cuts off abruptly.
You got a dead LED bud.
Yeah, doesn't exactly boost one's confidence in the build quality....
i love this pedal! yeah🤘🤘🤘
Interesting concept but it sounds too un natural, its like an octave pedal kind of, not really a great feedback sound IMO . The much better version of this is the EH Tube Zipper.
Hey men try to play U2 - With or Without You & Poison - Every Rose has its Torn (Solo last feedback) its perfect for this Pedal!!😊
Menuda chorrada
Is it too late to win the free freqout? ;)
It is unfortunately!
@@Wallimann ha! Thanks for the unexpected reply! I figured my question was dumb enough to ignore but it doesn't mean I don't want that pedal still! Rock on, man!
No-one tells you that it doesn't come with a power supply! Nor does it take batteries. Be warned!
That's how it's always worked.
I'm not a paid sponser....but I'm going to give a way a free one and here's my affiliate link
Momentary. Not monetary. Moment. Not money.
He also said "Hyoogs and Kettner".
Do they do one for vocals? Ha ha ha ha!
I just got mine today and wowwwwwwwwwwwwww it sucks ! The feedback and sustain is soooooooo inconsistent, sustain and feedback stops as soon as you vibrato or touch your whammy bar, and it picks up all different frequencies too other than what note you're playing. The thing even keeps ringing out after I've turned my volume right off ! absolutely not what I expected and nothing like in this demo video 👎I do NOT recommend this pedal
Really? Man I’m sorry. I love mine!!
Hey Dave, love your vids, but just a tip, back in 1983 I got my left ear pierced, the tiny whole is still there but the stud's gone a long time. guys don't wear ear rings anymore because all the squares use 'em now. . JMHO. Mike
moment -ary not mom-entary lol
Thank you sir :)
Warning: it is forbiben to own that pedal if you don't play an Ibanez guitar...
I want to hear it with a real actual amp, like a Marshall or Fender.
It's okay, but the lack of presets is a turnoff for me.
This guy must have kids and a wife or ex wife.
Sounds like a dying mosquito David...
....he don't like cabs... ha ha.....great guitar
