This and The Cars self-titled. I was a kid in grade school listening to this blasting on my older brother’s record player and sneaking into his room to play it when he was out. Also, Foreigner’s early stuff. He died last fall and he’s really missed, but so much of this era of music reminds me of him.

You guys should look up Tom Scholz, and who he is, and what he contributed, not only to this band, but music in general. Not only was he the songwriter for this band, but he also created a plethora of sounds and machines because he was a engineer at MIT, and he had a vision of the music he was going to make, but the equipment didn’t exist yet, so he had to invent it

Good point about his story. Debut album sprinkled with auto biographical references. “Peace of Mind”, chasing the dream lyrics in “Long Time.” Dream (leaving corporate world for rock music) came true.

I believe he went to and graduated from MIT and was a product development engineer for Polaroid , he helped develop the Polaroid One Step Camera. He also invented the Scholz Rockman which was a small device to play guitar through to get the distinct guitar tone you hear in Boston's music.

When you dig into Boston's story you'll find out about the driving force behind Boston, Tom Scholz - Master's degree in electrical engineering from MIT, engineer at Polaroid. Wrote all but one song on this album, played every instrument except drums; all vocals done by a guy named Brad Delp. Scholz built a studio in his basement, recorded, mixed and mastered everything. Was the best selling debut album in rock history for about 15yrs

This is the kind of song I want everyone born after 1980 to listen to and realize there were singers good enough to hit these notes and make those harmonies without Auto-Tune! If the singer you adore can't hit this without cheating, they suck! The 1970's were the absolute zenith of analog studio production. This is why I don't care about anything made after 2000...

Boston's debut album (Boston, released in 1976) had every track on it made airplay on all the Rock Station in Detroit. Brad Delp is the lead singer, who suffered from depression which sadly led him to take his life on March 9, 2007.

Tom Scholz recorded the first album in his basement. He played most of the instruments himself. Not drums though. Brad Delp came in and did ALL the vocals, lead, backing, and harmonies. The record company wanted them to re-record the album in the studio, but Tom wouldn’t have it so they pulled a studio truck up to his house and ran cords from his basement to the truck to get the music on the correct audio tape. They “pretended” to record in the studio. 😂

Those notes played are on every album, played between other songs. Every album has a theme cover with those notes/composition played on guitars, even a pipe organ. May be worth checking out.

Lol I think she thought of that cause they are both somewhat chaotic / fast moving, and often have arpeggio like flurries to them. Generally speaking a lot of old video game music sounds cheesy on the surface but if you hear people play it on nicer instruments it’s actually pretty amazing from a composition perspective. There’s some fun videos of jazz pianists breaking down old Nintendo type music out there on UA-cam 😂
