Probably going to double back to some Lateralus era stuff next! Also, the intro song is our new single “Snowy Mountains” by LemonTech, which just dropped on streaming platforms today. Obviously a very different vibe from TOOL, but if you liked it you can find it on any streaming platform. See you at the next video!

Let us not forget Danny was 58 or 59 years old here too, absolute Master of his craft is an understatement! It's one thing to play it but he wrote it too. His limb independence, his ability to create melodies, just everything he does is crazy!

Then in concert, he rolls straight into The Grudge, Sober, The Pot, Schism, Parabola, Lateralus, Forty six and two, or any of Tools master pieces with barely a 5 second rest. Danny is a master at work.

The depths of this man's humility knows know bounds, he's even taken time away to play in bands with kids covering Tools songs. You can find them on the Tube. Speaking of kids, you should totally check out the kids from the O'Keafe Foundation coving Tool's song 46&2, phenomenal 🤘 but anyway thank you for an amazing reaction.

This is my favorite Tool song as well. From the overall ambiance, to the message, to the beautiful complexity of the 33/8 section, and the brilliance of Danny's ostinato. It's a masterpiece, and I also quite enjoy that it confounds the closed-minded.

I’m a little late but this is very well said. It seems so complex and it is, but it also has a lot of the pattern of Maynard’s speech rhythms. It’s really just taking small groupings and repeating them unpredictably and then adding independence among the elements. Danny’s limb independence is unparalleled.

Loving your Tool reactions... Seeing them live is a whole different experience. Spiritual in a way. The first thing you notice is how much Danny and Justin do as far as the ambient sounds go. The best set up for any Tool reaction video is one person who knows the song and is a fan and one who doesn't know it so well because the giddy joy on the Tool fan's face and the nervous/excited looks over to see if the newbie is enjoying it as much as you want them to is so relatable

the "outro" part of Pneuma to me, as a drummer (as if that would mean anything when it's a Danny Carey video lol) is always special - there is some raw, frantic, brutal energy it; but: controlled. cool. precision work ... the whole song wants to grab you and jump on a rampage but yet, ufff - how he accents with the crash cymbals, the selective yet forcefull doublebass.
yea it is damn great work and Danny is a master.

The Atlanta show was good. I was hoping for a slightly different setlist. I was surprised how much I enjoyed Flood though. Could hear Maynard clearly, he sounded identical to the recorded track and Justin playing the bass during the intro was neat to watch.
I have to say that they have The Grudge intro spot on. I doubt there’s few people who could witness that intro and not get amped up.

So that whole drum solo-ish section was Swiss Triplets. His ability to play that for that long, staying in time with the click and the band, and keeping the time signatures clearly in his head while keeping his feet alternating.
Like, I’m pretty good at drums, or at least I was when I would practice for hours a day. It’s generally difficult to impress me with this particular instrument. But even something that “simple” as a Swiss triplet repeated is enough to tell me just how good he is. He wrote that in there knowing he could do it live every time. Wild.

Interesting Fact, Danny had played this live only a dozen or so times ever when this was filmed at the show in Boston in 2019.
So Danny's smile which I knew she would catch, was partly the difficulty with the limited times they had played it, and Vic Firth setting up cameras added a little a bit of extra juice like your most complicated song, and 1 take, and go.
This and and that old Sober video are the only 2 Professionally shot Tool Live videos in existence, although they have been recording their shows themselves since at least 2012 according to Adam, so one day, hopefully a long time from now when the live shows are no longer, hopefully they will release some DVDs.

Generally, this shows in much finer detail what Carey is doing. How big a part of Tool’s sound he is.
The quieter middle section is the one from this video that kills me. Each limb doing a different rhythm yet it doesn’t sound chaotic. Mind boggling.
Your point at the end is salient. Danny plays all of it. None of it is computer generated or on a pre-recorded loop

The pads are Mandalas and he assigns them any which way he likes, the intro is laid out like Val said a lot like how a steel drum would be. Those stacks of racks are the brains and sample banks, many samples he collected himself. Although the pads have 127 levels of velocity sensing, Danny's muscles generate approximately 23872 levels of velocity and he hits each tap, thwack, or thump just right every time. I think his muscle memory works a bit like like dominoes, once the song lights off the last motion triggers the next all the way through, like riding a bike or skateboarding, no way to remember the parts, they just occur when they should due to practice and repetition. He also practices with distractions on purpose to help ensure nothing can throw him off. There is a video where the drum tech comes in and changes out a whole broken drum head during a performance and it barely sounds like anything went wrong.

Legend has it that Danny once made a deal with the Devil.......No-one knows what Danny asked for, but the Devil got drumming lessons :)

Have you listened to Neil Peart’s drum solo? “RUSH”. I believe you would like this as well. His drum set is probably one of the biggest ones I’ve ever seen progressive rock.

I'm 45 and pay for the youtube with no adds. Time is money. Everyone is struggling like myself. I don't ever see adds and forget until watching reactions. 😂 love your content keep up your great reactions.

Cancel that, save your money, and get the official (and FREE) uBlock Origin extension for any browser that isn't a Chromium browser, since that's owned by Google (as is UA-cam), so they'll bug you about ads on those. Firefox works fine (and imports all your saved info and bookmarks) for example. No ads, and no ad-extortion, and complete control to exclude any other page elements and annoying presentation tricks you don't like either (like those stupid popup video suggestion buttons at the end while you're still watching your videos?) if you take the time to learn how to use the tools in it.
