Val is the greatest Tool reactor ever!!
Because she loves all the Tool songs
Lots of reactors love all Tool songs, but she also "gets" it instantly.
Val needs the 27 second scream next GRUDGE
9:30 "I feel that when we're children, we're all ourselves, and then somehow we lose that. Then we have to fight our way, to find it again." This is such a beautiful way to put these lyrics and feeling of the song. Made me subscribe.
Danny Carey recently did an interview with Rick Beato. Danny explains their writing process and its evolution over the years and how the band formed. A very well done and informative watch 👍
Gotta do my favorite tool song: The Grudge. Maynard’s 27 second scream! It’s a must for seasoned TOOL fans!
lol 🤣 her "toool" intro made my day.
There
is a video of this song performed by a group of kids sponsored by the Okeefe music foundation. It is so worth your while to see / hugs
highly recommend you'll be blown away
A must see for Val! She'll understand the level of musicianship happening there.
I second this
indeed
Love the reactions. Val closes her eyes for tool.. The right move😁
The drum roll at 6.07 is probably one of the best ever. Everything after that is just crazy.
Probably my favorite Tool song. Sonically it bangs. Lyrically it talks of growth and change at a visceral primal level. A reordering of one's composition into the future of you.
When I first heard it in my teens it was a foundational moment in my life to think about, experience and start to understand this process.
The interview Rick Beato did with Maynard is one of the best ones I've seen. Just two musicians having some good conversation.
Lol 2 musicians
And?..
I really dig how she closes her eyes.
The abrupt ending to that song is second to none!………so is the smooth ass intro…….. so is the meat of the song………..apparently so are the lyrics and all of the intricacies I don’t have words for. Love the reaction. I’m currently 44 and when I was 17 this song grabbed me and declared, “You need to know more!” They’ve been in my alternating top 2 ever since. ✌️
Introducing new people to Tool is like spreading the gospel. Good work!
Y’all need to check out Blood to Wine documentary about Maynard’s wine vineyard in Arizona. Gives you an insight on the drive and intelligence of this great person
I love how Val always has her eyes closed and just listens. You can tell she’s really just taking it in. Love you guys and really enjoying your channel. I grew up in a house with a father who went to Berkeley Boston for classical piano and a grandmother from Italy that was a concert pianist and teacher when she got older. So we grew up having to study and learn about music. My dad got me into so many bands before they even blew up. I remember when Pearl Jam became huge and my friends asking me “how did your dad know about these guys a year ago?” He was always encouraging me to not to stick to one genre. Because he said “you’ll find something you like in a genre that you really aren’t a fan of if you give everything a chance.” And he was right. I’m a pretty much metal, hard rock, and old rap fan and I remember my senior year of high school blasting wu-tang clan in my room one day and my father came busting into my room and said “who is this?” I told him it’s wu-tang and he said “can I borrow this CD for my ride to work?” My dad is the coolest.
Wu Tang and Cypress Hill. Smoking hit jams still
Not many songs off the top of my head comes with an integrated drum breakdown. Back in '96 this was epic1
Maynard has been on Joe Rogan several times; the latest one was good... He also had an interview with Rick Beato which was much more about the music...
Its about embracing ones shadow (all the things you dont like about yourself) and really accepting who you are as a human so that you can achieve a higher level of being 46 and 2 (where current humans have 46 autosomes in our dna structure adding 2 is the next evolution in mankind).
Absolutely do the o'keefe music school cover!!! It's phenomenal.
This song is FINAL BOSS music! :)
This is one of Tool's most amazing songs, and really sums up the entire theme of Aenima. This song is about growing, changing, and moving towards the next level of human evolution and conciousness. It's deeply rooted in Jungian theory.
Basically, it's believed that there are three levels of human evolution and each has it's form of conciousness. There's the 1st level with 44 chromosones. These are primitve people's like the aboriginies in Australia who do not percieve anything outside of themselves. They only see one large conciousness with no distinguishment between organisms. Then there's the second level with 46 chromosones. That is us. We are a chaotic disharmonic conciousness that is basically used as a stepping stone between the first and third levels. The third level is 48 chromosones. (Or 46 & 2, with 2 being the sex chromosones x & y). This is the higher level of conciousness. Our destination.
But this is where the Jungian theory comes in. It is believed that you can not reach this third level of evolution without first delving into yourself and basically cleansing your conciousness for the next jump. That's where the Shadow comes in. The shadow is basically everything about that is unseen that you are uncomfortable with or hate. This is also known as the Anima (hence the name of the CD).
The last part of the song sums all of this up...
"See my shadow changing, Stretching up and over me Soften this old armor Hoping I can clear the way By stepping through my shadow, Coming out the other side Step into the shadow Forty six and two are just ahead of me"
This is probably one of Justin chancellor’s most addicting bass riffs he’s wrote in my opinion
Maynard.." the art of work..5 parts..great watch
I agree he basically rebuilt that town of Jerome
YES, TOOL IS an experience
Yall should check out Meytal drum cam video of her covering this song. She is so on point.
Or indeed this forensically accurate rendition: www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiyjeHKsLeEAxX6XUEAHSVdCB0QtwJ6BAgaEAI&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DteJnL4tckmE&usg=AOvVaw33N7CAiCtQ3w8b_esaYV30&opi=89978449
Rick Beato interview is great, also check, blood into wine, a documentary of MJK
one of their earliest songs, JERK OFF, is one of their best if you want lyrics
They've done some great podcast interviews. Justin more than others. They all have great personalities; smart, artistic and funny.
You can keep on this album if you like. Stinkfist, Eulogy, and AEnima are great choices. I would definitely take a listen to 10,000 days Wings for Marie part 1 and 2. With lyrics. Some of Maynards best work.
This song is iconic. Might be my favorite but that changes everyday lol
Will you do the O'Keefe version also? It's good. And also why the fuck wouldn't you 😋
You have to react to the O'keefe Music Foundation kids cover of this!!! Its incredible! Those kids will blow yalls minds
Others have mentioned the references to jungian shadow work and the chromosomal evolution. Another interesting tidbit(Val may like this) is Maynards' use of a vocal technique called shadow voweling, where the vocalist adds a vowel at the end of a word. And that word is, you guessed it....Vowel ! Brilliant!!! Tool is awesome. Love your reactions. Spiral Out. Keep Going.
I meant Shadow. I'm not so brilliant. Ha ha
You definitely need to watch the lyric video for this song- it does a great job of actually explaining where Maynard drew inspiration from, specifically, mainly from psychology and blended that with spiritual and human evolution. Keep Spiraling Out...
This goes with out saying yall have to check out the O'Keefe music foundations cover of 46 and 2 the kids absolutely own the song
thisvare incredible
Okeefe music foundations cover is amazing. Makes me tear up every time
This is inspired by the theory of the Shadow by Carl Gustav Jung. The 46+2 Is probably a reference tò the chromosomes
There is a fanmade video were the theories are explained and reading the lyrics it really makes sense.
Agree
D
Down syndrome people have 2 extra chromosomes
To see how this group influences kids, I think a quick watch of *Kids Cover 46 and 2 by Tool / O'Keefe Music Foundation* is a must
Hello guy's..love the reactions..maynard has some newer video documentary..and an Easter one too..enjoy
8:21 - you pick up tons more than most do WITH the lyrics on their first time. Actually impressive.
Sometime, maybe do AEnima!
Evolving!!! oldest mapped humans had a chromosome makeup of 42&2, the we EVOLVED....we stood up and became 44&2 (as we exist now) The theory is that there will be another evolution...the next level....46&2......
keep them coming :)
ya'll should check out Between the Buried and Me
This guy looks like he owns a pair of Vans and a dope beastie tee, probably sips coke.
Hopefully no nipple rings. 😂 New tattoos? 🤣
UA-cam need to go see them live this week and do a reaction video
checkin in...
My fav tool reaction channel! Thank you!
If you havent you should have her check out H ....so good
I think you guys would like the Revolver magazine video piece on UA-cam called The Art of Work with Maynard. It’s broken up into 4 parts. I just got back from a vacation. I went to Venice Beach, but stopped off in Jerome AZ first to check out a couple of Maynards businesses. Beautiful area
Good.
YAAAY!!!
Yall should checkout Break of Reality's cello cover of Lateralus. Even if it's not a reaction. It's simply amazing what a few cellos can do when the song is interpreted through their instruments
ok ok ok - Val I need to know what your shirt says! oh love your reactions btw 😀
🤘🏻🌀
O'Keefe Music Foundation kids doing this is a must watch btw!
This is the song
Justin Chamberlin wrote the bass line for this before he joined Tool🤘
Maynard does Joe Rogan Experience but yes there are several different interviews out there.
We really and truly need a Val reacts to The Holy Trinity ASAP!!!
DISPOSITION/REFLECTION/TRIAD
Where can I check out ur music?
love your nose
Look up tool interview
Check her for a pulse.
🌀🌀🌀🥚🥚🥚🦋🦋🦋
Hold auditions for some geeeetario stuffs
10:10 There are some interviews.. Most recent are with Maynard however you can also find videos with Danny, Justin.. Less with Adam if any
how do feel about music or rhythm comes first then lyrics
Not read through the comments, but humans have 23 chromosome pairs, making 46 chromosomes. +2 would mean something like an evolutionary step (24 chromosome pairs). Not sure, but somewhat nice thinking that's a possible gain for humanity and the song is written from a humanity perspective as whole and about that. :)
Regards. 👍
46 & 2 refers to the amount of chromosomes in the human body and the possibility of expanding the number by adding 2 more chromosomes.
i always wondered if any members of tool were a little bit embarrassed to write this whole song about the next step of human evolution being the extra pair of chromosomes when it is in fact our PAST in evolutionary development.... we already had 24 pairs of chromosomes and it's now 23
Do "H" please :)
1996
Prison vex video??
Thirde eye....is Val Ready?? I have doubts but she might be.....enjoy.
This is the 46 & 2 Theory: The premise is humans would deviate from the current state of human DNA which contains 44 autosomes and two sex chromosomes. The next step of evolution would likely result in human DNA being reorganized into 46 autosomes and two sex chromosomes, according to Melchizedek
The song is actually about chromosomes in your b.ody. Humans typically have 23 pairs of chromosomes, or 46 chromosomes in total.
You really need to familiarize yourself with Jung and also 46 and 2 is the next step in human evolution.
As far as explanations from the band, Maynard did an interesting interview back in 1993 for a festival in the Netherlands… that’s about it as far as it goes with learning something new. Maynard doesn’t really giving insight on the band. He’s always been obtuse, sarcastic, and oppositional to almost every journalist. It wasn’t until this past decade that he’s been true and honest.
7:12
WTF 'you doing?!
You stopped it with only eight seconds left
You paused at the worst possible time just before the end when the momentum was building. And don't pause on guitar solos either.
Their interviews are more trolling the interviewer and they don’t really open up much or at all
Time to go down the chromosomal pairing rabbit hole….
And Jung’s shadow work..
Perhaps this may help. How many chromosomes does a human have?
Chromosomes!
Too much stops. Bye for ever.
You're probably going to be inundated my people wanting you to watch these kids play the song it's cute and the kids on the instruments are talented but the little girl singing bites off too much has two smaller of a voice to sing Maynard
Thanks for the deep insight, Debbie Downer.
it's a cover, man, and she does a great job!
it honestly would be pretty hard to find a person who can sing like Maynard even among accomplished vocalists.
Agree, if we're prioritizing her listening time, the kids-play-Tool should be waaaaaaay down the list.
@@corey6393 telling the truth is not a downer she just needs a bigger voice to sing tool she sounds like a little mouse
@@synystera I wasn't suggesting they find somebody that sounds like Maynard I just said she has two small a voice for the song
Every new Tool song willl be your best Tool song. That's what happened to me and I wish it to that lady whose name I forgot.
