I used to make this in the 60s. It was called “Sad Cake” and I think Bisquick was used but I will use self rising flour. Thanks.

Kelly Bell you’ll love it the taste is so similar!😀😀 have a day blessed by the good a Lord.
I ran across your video here today. I had never heard of Chew Bread. After watching the video and looking over the recipe I realized that these were so similar to the Congo Bars that we made in Girl Scouts. The recipe was made in a sauce pan on the stove top and we would have to wait for the butter and sugar to cool down before we added the egg. We also added chocolate chips with the nuts. These are so delicious! I love eclipse across the country that are similar with different names. Thank you for the blast of memories from 1977! I am here in the Pacific Northwest of the USA.
Awwwww. Sweet memories!!! They always make us smile! Have a wonderful day!!!!
I remember making Congo Bars in Home Economics class in Middle School!
@@donnalewis231 we didn’t make good stuff in our class. You’re lucky!!!!😂😂

Diana...they are chewy...moist. I don't know what happened. Dense and chewy . I've never had them cake like.
This looks yummy. Just wondering if I added just a little less sugar would that change the whole recipe, Joe is diabetic but loves sweets. Thank you for sharing Gay and you have yourself a blessed day. 🌈
