Can’t agree more. I’ve only recently discovered this genre of UA-cam - generation Z (or whatever) discovering they don’t know diddly squat about Rock and Roll. Love it!
Always cracks me up to watch people listen to Mark play for the first time. And yeah, the drummer kills it. Best live performance ever. Makes me cry. The whole package.
Dire Straits on fire! I think Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitars player ever. I agree what you say about the drummer Terry Williams. What an energy he has!
rumor says that at the audience that night, there was drummer's dad to see his son performing on stage for the first time ever in his life. So son Terry decided to STEAL THE SHOW.
@@MorenikejiTaiwo You have to check out the live version of Tunnel of Love by them. I think you'll really enjoy the 6-7 minute outro which is one of the most beautiful instrumentals you'll ever hear in a rock song.
This particular version is one of the best live compositions ever..the musicianship is ridiculous...this concert to me is like Led Zeppelin The Song Remains the Same concert a masterpiece and a showcase of uber talent and skills..you have the best reactions and prettiest smile in the game..anyone not shoulder dancing or head nodding is a zombie
there are three songs on that level for me. this one, nightwish - ghost love score live at wacken 2013 and pink floyd - comfortably numb live in pompeii 2016
Terry Williams on drums going ape because his dad was in the audience and it was the first time he had heard his son play. Absolute magic. Great Reaction!!
Look at Alan the main piano keyboard player, five rows of keys and he often plays two at a time and can only see one. These guys are all talented and brilliant.
What a great reaction to this epic performance! Author Douglas Adams described it perfectly “Mark Knopfler has an extraordinary ability to make a Schecter Custom Stratocaster hoot and sing like angels on a Saturday night, exhausted from being good all week and needing a stiff drink.”. Thank you for your energy and emotions, it really made my night. Cheers from Sweden!
What makes Mark Knopfler even more amazing than the music that he plays is that his virtuoso guitar work is pure feel... the man makes 6 strings sound like that without a pick! He (and Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham) are two guitarists who make musical magic plucking the strings by hand. Simply phenomenal.
Great reaction. To play a clean guitar that fast without distortion or tapping is a skill that all guitarists aspire to, but many fall short of. Mark Knopfler is one of the true greats.
And not just the chops, but the musicianship he employs them in service of. I can't think of another guitarist who has ever played a piece that was both so technically brilliant and so undeniably gorgeous in the context of the melody it was being played around. Lots of guitarists can shred, although few at this level, but to do it in a way that not only doesn't overshadow the song itself, but actually elevates it, and to this degree? What can you even say?
@@michaelccozens Check out george Benson, absolutely clean and brilliant. I saw him in London do this kind of playing while doing the Chuck Berry hop across the stage, even the string section of the London Philarmonic that he brought along were stunned
What an absolutely wonderful and genuinely heartfelt reaction to genius. I'm 63 and have loved this band from when they emerged in the late 70s. This performance is outstanding for the all round brilliant and astounding musianship of every member. You rightly give the heads up to the brilliant Welsh wizard that is Terry Williams on drums and what can one say about Mark Knopfler that hasn't already been said. I feel so fortunate to have lived at a time when his music has graced my life. Thank you Mark and thank you for one of the best reactions I have seen. Take care. Warmest Wishes from the UK.
All the guys in the band played their hearts out at this concert , what an amazing set. Terry Williams on Drums was awesome , not biased even though he's from my home city 🙂. If you notice early on in the track , Mark and John turn and looked at Terry with big smiles , they knew he was smashing it . Wonderful reaction again 🙂
Alan Clark on keyboards is fantastic. His keyboards on "Telegraph Road" from the same Alchemy performance is truly beautiful. Give if a listen. The whole song is gorgeous.
I was introduced to the Dire Straits by my sister when i was 14. I loved their music instantly. And now, being 43, this version, tjeeeee…music can’t get better than this. Technically and emotionally perfection🙂
I don’t think British music has anything to worry about as far as losing relevance is concerned, just considering how many good British bands were in the 70’s. Queen, Dire Straits, Def Leppard, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and half of Fleetwood Mac.
Mark is a remarquable song writer but he likes playing on stage live. What makes you groove is his knowledge and practice of many different styles of music he’s been taught by friends, playing in bars and listening to old blues. He’s a master in rythm, and that why his solos are so perfect. The melody could not be expressed in a better way !
This is by far the best live performance of this song. The whole Alchemy concert was great. Mark Knopfler is the best gitarist and a unique story teller in his songs. There are still a lot of little (or great) diamonds to discover, written and played bij him!
One of my favourite stories about Mark Knopfler is that, when "Weird" Al Yankovic asked for his blessing for Al to make a parody song of "Money for Nothing" (a song that ended up playing a big part in Al's underappreciated slapstick movie gem, "UHF"), Knopfler had only one condition; that he be the one to record the parody with Al. How do you say "no" to that?
This song came out 43 years ago, which was the year my husband and I got together and mark Knopfler is still in my top two favorite guitarists! It brought this old woman such joy to see you enjoy it so very much! Thanks BIG BIG !
Any song at Alchemy - this is where the guitar solos are. And the drummer!! AMAZING. Telegraph Road is my favorite. the keyboard is standout here. I enjoyed your reaction tremendously because it is was a very honest expression of surprise and sheer enjoyment of the musical talent! I never tire of replayment of any of the Dire Straits music. It's like I hear it fresh again every time.

It provoked the soul to show itself. It must accomplish that joy. And it does when masters of the craft lay it down like this right here. Incredible music. Dire Straits man. Just holy cow. Great song. Fabulous performance. Fantastic reaction. Home run. Peace from Canada.
I've said before, maybe the best live performance ever recorded... Your reaction is priceless!
WOW!!! That just lit you up, didn't it?...WOW!
I liked watching your reaction better than the video.
This song is special. It's almost like three separate songs moving along in their own tempo within the same song.
Have seen this performance so many times but watching with you was my favourite. 🥳
Thank you for reacting to that version. I had never seen it before - it is amazing - an absolute masterpiece like you said.
It’s really good!💗
AWESOME REACTION!!!
Now you have to watch Telegraph Road, the Alchemy version. It’s a MASTERPIECE of the same kind. Then Tunnel of Love, Private Investigations, basically anything from this concert that yoou can find. As a fan who watched them arive in the late 70’s, I think the Alchemy Live recordings are the most outstanding performances by this already outstanding group of sensationally talented musicians. I’d really love to see your reactions to some of those songs.
I just loved the joy and happiness in your face. This music has that ability to do that it's just so great
Haha...I saw Dire Straits live at Portman Road in Ipswich...it was magic !
I think Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits is even more emotional, but this is the best live performance I've ever seen, by anyone.
Aside from 'Comfortably Numb' at Pulse and 'Kashmir' at 'Celebration Day. So... number three....
@@Triton_Secureif you like the others maybe, all opinion set, I'm not a fan of your other two but a huge MK fan so he peeps the others to my No 1
classic guitar rock from the 70s the best of times to be a teenager I'm 68 now and I still Rock and roll
Hi Morenikeji, so good to see you having a happy, joyful, smiley experience! Loved the way you could not keep still, but who would be able too??. Made me want to get up and dance with you beautiful lol!!
Haha, thank you!😍
Congrats, you chose the right version of this legendary song. Mark Knopfler is a genius, one of my top 5 fav guitar hero. Absolutely he does, fab songwriter as well. Keeling rocking my dearest 🤘🏼💜
Seeing your reaction said it all, torn between joy and crying, your intense delight, it was a joy to watch. This must have been their best concert ever, there are other great tracks from that same gig. Best wishes.
Now you know. Got my first Dire Straits in 80. Still love them.
