    Working for the Mercedes Benz Dealership in Hawaii was very enlightening for ‘how to repairs’ once I was back on my own and all alone.
    However, your detailed video, without distracting background music, was absolutely brilliant and as good as working with factory trained technicians.
    Thank you for taking the time and being so through.

    The more I watch this video the more confidence I gain to tackle this task. The plastic piece in the front of the intake manifold that you mentioned broke, it just broke on my 2011 GL450. I did find a metal replacement piece. On top of that the radiator is leaking where a small hose connects right above the red drain knob.

    This is an excellent and great video. My runner on my 09 GL450 manifold broke and this video was to the point for everything. The check points were great and the torque specs and sequence were excellent. I even change the knock sensors while I had the intake manifold off. Same job if there were bad so why not change them while I’m in there. I’m a DIY person and I save myself a lot of money by following the instructions from this video. Great job Brian!!! Thank you for saving me $$$$

    I just recently did this on a 2012. After getting everything back together, it was idling rough and throwing lean/random misfire codes. Turned out the big vacuum hose (aka "crankcase breather hose") was torn. The rubber breaks down over time and it didn't take much to tear it. Parts store has them for around $33 and same price at dealer. Best to go ahead and order one before starting. It's a pain to swap out later.

    • @tedlu008

      Thanks for the tip. Wonder where did you order the hose from ? Thanks again.

    • @mccoma11
      @mccoma11 2 роки тому +1

      It's the molded rubber hose that runs along the intake on the drivers side. The rear connects way in the back, where it's hard to get to. It's just easier to replace while you already have it out.

    I see that there is a mercedes part listing for a replacement of the intake runner control. If there is a replacement part would it still be necessary to replace the entire intake manifold ? I also wonder why if this is a common problem for the intake manifold runner control why a recall hasn't been issued for the aluminum replacement?

    Coming from M112/M113, this stuff is new to me. I have a 11 E350 and 11 GL450 now. What’s the likely cause for this issue? My GL450 has this problem, I’ll either do it myself or get it done in the near future but what can I do to prevent this issue happening again. Is the new part updated or reinforced better?

    • @HowtoAutomotive

      Xyz ABC they do make a kit to repair it but most of the time it’s something inside the manifold that jams making it break.

    I have a question for you I I have the Mercedes 2008 GL550 and it is not moving as it used to and also whenever I move the car shakes when I'm doing 50 miles per hour when it gets too 75 miles it will stable and I keep hearing a noise coming from the right side tires it has 22 whales what will I do to solve this problem

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 років тому

      Chukwu Ikechukwu The shaking at 50 mph and then smoothing out sounds like one of the tires out of balance. So I would start there. If the engine is not performing right I recommend pulling codes.

    • @chukwuikechukwu8693
      @chukwuikechukwu8693 7 років тому

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 років тому

      Chukwu Ikechukwu if the dealer is who you trust I would go there or if you have an independent shop in your area you can take it there. If you take it to an independent shop just make sure that there familiar with Mercedes.

      I have a question, why did you replace the manifold if only the lever was broken ?

  • @aa240sx
    @aa240sx 7 років тому

    Great video! Many of the same techniques can be applied to a 2008 R350 as well! My question is after installing my intake - I'm still getting fuel trim codes. I'm trying to determine if that could be my O2 sensors or MAF, but does the ECU have to go through several drive cycles to adjust to the new intake, eg, fuel adaptations? Do I need to reset my ECU or disconnect the car battery or is resetting the fuel adaptations not something I can do with a simple OBDII scanner and that I have to take it to the dealership to have them handle it?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 років тому

      aa240sx you need clear the code. And I would Doublecheck your work. Sounds like he may have a vacuum leak. Those intake gaskets tend to slip off when you install it. When another thing you can do is disconnect the positive and the negative battery terminal's and connect them together and let it sit for an hour and That will clear out all the modules

    • @aa240sx
      @aa240sx 7 років тому +1

      Thanks - I did use silicone adhesive (only on the nipple parts and just a dab that friction hold the gasket) to make sure the gasket stayed put though. However, I'm not so sure I tightened all the intake manifold bolts down to the right torque spec. I believe I used something like 10-13 ft/lbs. What is the torque spec on those bolts anyway? Also, I'll try disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for an hour as well.

    • @aa240sx
      @aa240sx 7 років тому +1

      Just wanted to close the loop on this. Bottomline, problem solved and has been for the past month. The issue turned out to be a dirty MAF, which I cleaned with MAF sensor cleaner. no more cel and a lot of the other issues went away too. Sadly, I did put in a new o2 sensor and purchased a new MAF thinking these were the issues, but for now the spare MAF will just stay in it's box until it's called for.

      I tried removing the air pump first and still couldn't get to the actuator to replace it. Had to pull the whole intake manifold using the steps in this video. Don't think there's a shortcut for this one unfortunately. Also, when I went to take out the actuator bolt, it broke off inside the manifold and I had to replace the whole thing. All for a dumb little plastic piece.
