The pylons were designed to be able to each carry the GBU-28, a 5000lb laser guided bunker busting bomb. it be real neat to see those added
306kg of filler so not that useful for the weight unless you don't have other guided bombs.
The gbu-28 didn’t exist around the time of the aardvarks conception, the aardvark has like 20-30 years on the gbu-28
the f111a was never capable of carrying that or any guided munitions im pretty sure

The f111 never saw guided bombs, its done for carpet bombing not cas
The f-111 had 6 x 750lbs on the outer pylons but gaijin removed them. The 6x750's are 2000kg whereas the 3000lb are 1300kg i think.
Were they supposed to be there? Or is it historically inaccurate?

The 111 was a HUGE plane that could carry a lot more ordnance than Gaijin allows. The real trick up this bird’s sleeve was to send 8-12 of them. 1 fast pass and everything was flame and ash in nothing flat and they were long gone.
Not that huge really, same size as f-14, but way more capable
@@tedarcher9120, well the F14 was huge too. Back then military aircraft were specialized for a specific purpose. The 111 was a ground pounder. The F14 was an interceptor. I would argue that at the time, each was as good as it gets in their respective missions. Even today I think each model would outclass any of the so called multi role aircraft that were developed to take their place. The caveat being new aircraft incorporating new avionics and engine technology.
@@CuttinEJ f-111a was a bomber, f-111b was a fleet interceptor. F-111 has side-by-side sitting and escape capsule because Navy demanded it for their interceptor, and then they changed it so they didn't want the f-111b because it had side-by-side sitting and escape capsule, and stole it's radar for the f-14. F-14 is basically a bad f-111b for four times the price
@@tedarcher9120, the F111B program was cancelled before production began. It never existed. It was a bad idea that the leaders of the time wisely didn’t waste time and money on.

Phly, if you were wondering about the full bombload.... this thing could carry 6 nuclear bombs, and the bomb bay can only hold 2... so guess where the 4 others are fixed to... XD

Actually, with the right ejector racks... it could carry 20 B61 thermonuclear bombs. 2 on each of the 8 wing hardpoints, 2 on the external centerline hardpoint, and 2 more in the internal bomb bay
They are pretty light at 720 pounds each.

B-1 isn't the successor the F-111, it was supposed to replace the B-52. The only bomber a F-111 replaced was the B-58(which the original B-1 was supposed to repalce) which was replaced by the FB-111A, which is configured a bit different than the normal F-111A since it was used by SAC. F-111 and the FB-111 never got a full replacement, closest today is the F-15E.
I love how the airbrake is also the door for the mainwheels.

Each wing was equipped for four underwing pylons. The inner two pylons on each wing would rotate to align with the fuselage, while the outer two were fixed. Each pylon had a capacity of 5,000 pounds (2,300 kg). Various bombs and missiles could be carried on the pylons. Auxiliary fuel drop tanks with 600 US gallons (2,300 L) capacity each could be fitted.[41]

The strela missile is indeed broken.
The devs are on crack because they gave it irccm essentially. Even from 5kms you can barely flare it because the seeker head is so small it doesn’t see your flares.
It’s absolutely stupid that a plane like the Demon should have to face it when it’s a 20G unflareable missile and that plane doesn’t even have flares.

The Royal Australian Air Force used to fly the F-111C more than capable of carrying that load.
IRL the F-111A is able to carry 50 750lbs bombs, honestly don’t know why War Thunder won’t let us have that
IRL the buccaneer planes (9.3 and 8.7) were desinged purely for lobbing small nukes against russian ships, essentially using them as bombs. but that isnt in the game despite that small nuke not destroying the match at all. its just a bomb essentially

F-111F could haul 31,000 pounds of ordinance on 9 external plus 2 internal hardpoints.
Maximum theoretical destructive loadout would be twenty B61 Thermonuclear bombs.
At about half of its maximum weight payload.
On the Dev server the F-111 wings would rip with ease with that much weight on the wings the second you thought you wanted to make a slight turn. Also, I am surprised that Gaijin has not made it to where we can change the bomb timer while in flight cause this is a IRL thing as pilots can set a timer while in flight.

Yo Phly, the Strala has 2 (well 3..) guidance modes : IR, contrast seeking and an auto mode. The IR is just like any other IR seeking missile, you can lock on low altitude and high altitude targets, the missile has ECCM but on rare occasions it can be flared. With the contrast mode, you will only be able to lock when there is a good contrast between your target and the background, so usually when the plane is high and there is only the sky in the background. If you get a lock with this mode, the missile won't care about flares at all. The auto mode will pick which guidance mode by itself.
The fact it can also carry 50 500lb bombs is even more crazy to me.
Yes it's probably way worse than 8 3000lb bombs but it just sounds so much more insane... 50 bombs... and it's not like 500lb is a tiny bomb either.

Strela is insanely good. Ultimate CAS revenge SPAA. Generally, if you're still visible in the sky when I spawn back in I'm going to get you. There are some helis you just can't lock, and it sucks not having a radar, and it's not all-aspect so it can be tough to lock planes coming straight at you until they get close. If you want to kill strela get up high while out of range turn your engines off and dive straight at the Strela. It won't be able to lock you.

Wing pylons carry total external load of 25,000 pounds (11,250 kilograms) of bombs, rockets, missiles, or fuel tanks.(extra fuel can be a weapon if you drop and reload in ukraine and fly back to moscow to drop more)

According to Wikipedia, F-111C can tak 28.5 tonnes of fuel and ammo with a max takeoff weight of 49.9 tonnes.
I drive trucks, and I have yet to drive a truck that is more than half the weight of an F-111C's payload.

Phly, you should give the game Nuclear Option a look. It's in early access on Steam and has some fun flight sim-lite elements and let's you drop nukes for days on enemy bases and convoys.
The F-111 Aardvark. actually a more effective plane at CAS than the A-10 during its service life.

What russian BR would you recommand? i reached 5.7 but i face full uptiers like 90% of the time and it suucks soo bad against germany 6.7

As a spaa main f11’s are hella annoying to deal with, (when they pay attention and not just fly right into my missiles) the bombs I can kinda handle with the 2s6 guns but if you use rockets and stay low u can just pop up kill an spaa or tank and hide back with the terrain and theirs practically nothing we can do unless we are tunnel visioning on you alone

Higher tier planes have a bomb sight computer, and the shrinking cross hair is supposed to be that.
You need a rockets only load out, it can carry 500+ rockets
