That first main engagement was wild, going from hot to cold and popping flares without panicking - really clean
Don't worry, I panicked for Phly.
Engine and countermeasure control in that first pursuit was perfect.

No one realized that the Aardvark had more vehicles kills in the First Gulf War than the A-10
A-10 was designed to kill T-72s, which it did kill more of, to the best of my knowledge. Vark is a high speed strike bomber. A-10 is a CAS aircraft. Very different aircraft.
The Aardvark has also never been involved in the slaughter of allied British troops, another bonus.
The A-10 is an overrated garbage platform that isn't even that great at it's intended role and the gun that the entire aircraft was designed around isn't even that effective (other than for psychological purposes against ground troops). The fact some morons think it's irreplaceable boggles the mind. If combat effectiveness really mattered to them then we would have just kept the F-111.

@@bigtony4930pretty sure the F-16 killed more tanks than the A-10 did. Also the funny thaing about all this is the one unique feature about the A-10 that makes us call it a tank buster, the 30mm, isn't even that effective at killing tanks, and most tank busting by the A-10 was done with AGM-65's

The Brit’s learned quick to use the right frequency. Another L for the Brit’s.
@@Aidan-fw1xr Learned fast not to trust American air support between A10's and Apaches being trigger happy and not checking FFV. Then again, the Americans didn't fare much better at the hands of their fellow A10's and Apaches.

Former F-111E crew chief; the two inboard pylons on each wing pivot with wing sweep, outer pylons do not pivot
I spent 6 years of my life maintaining that aircraft.
Earlier somebody mentioned that the inner pylons do rotate with wings sweep the outer pylons do not.
I also spent just shy of a year in Saudi during the first Gulf war.
We did outperform the A10.

Ive been waiting a long time for this jet... my grandfather Norman F Armstrong was one of the lead designers for the f-111 he was in control of the weapon systems all the orange wiring throughout the aircraft was his design the stories id hear from that man were the best and forever live with me he was an aeronautical engineer for Lockheed Martin from the 60s until 98 when he retired he got to see and do some truly amazing things

@PhlyDaily I had a few flights in the F-111C (RAAF) back in the '80s, we used to call them the "Pig" because Aardvark literally means ground pig in Afrikaans. Massive bomb load, impressive at mach 2 and using the TFR as hard ride (50m agl). The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) also flew them the longest, 37 years.

An amazing airframe. Back in 1993 I was in Army TacOps for 2nd BDE, 1st ID. My USAF LNO was an old F-111 driver. Because we all had security clearance, we got to hear all kinds of great stories. Including stuff not readily known about the Libya raid in the 80's which he was part of.

All versions of the F-111 were equipped with "Pivot" Pilons which allowed the pilons to pivot into the wind but this was limited to either 45 or 54 degree wingsweep.
