The hall of fame is so subjective. The woke people at rolling stone are too young to appreciate the pioneers. It could be Billy's reputation for being a jerk too.
Most nostalgic song ever if you were born in the 70's, raised in the 80's, partied in the 90's, found love in 00's and getting my son into good music in 2010 and beyond...
First time I heard this song on the radio, I completely froze. Everything about the song was perfect. I was in the 8th grade when I heard this song for the first time. Hearing this song for the first time was one of my favorite childhood memories.
This song helped me push thru this life when it first came out but shout out to clerks 2 for really putting this song where it belongs and keeps most of us from giving up \m/
I'm from Louisville, KY and my band the Synthetics from the 80 used to play a club called Tewligans Tavern and on many occasions Smashing Pumpkins would play shows here as well. Great band!
After school in the 90’s I went to the news agent and this tab was in a guitar magazine so I wrote it out in my school book and still play it today. One of the nicest songs to jam on.
Her "crap" was better than 99% of most musicians could put out today. She was a liability due to her personal life not mirroring her professional life. She can still thump a Fender Precision better than most folks.
Living in Boston, Mass, 2003 heard it for the first time and each time brings so much memories that are not easy to describe, is pure poetry, naive and melancholy...I'm 67 ...greetings from Chile...
I think people realize how good of a guitarist he is. He's influenced many bands. That said, 1979 while a great guitar song is not, by any means, a difficult guitar song. It takes good rhythm, but it's not technical. I encourage everyone to play it!
This is my favorite song, and band, but after having not touched a guitar in 10+ years I looked at tabs and played most the song after five minutes of teaching myself. Great song, but a much less technical song than plenty of others by them.

Ahem.. not really.. close, but no
@@LarsRyeJeppesen so then what is the one iconic representative song of alternative 90's rock?
@@socialdef3 there isnt one.
Let's collect some!
Bush - Glycerine
@C R E A T E T U B E 100%. People can talk shit about it, including Kurt Cobain himself, but there’s a reason it became so big.
For anyone born at a certain time, this song will likely always be one of the clearest and purest representations of nostalgia.
I was just thinking that. Took me back to the mid 90s, the house I lived in then, the other music on the radio. This is awesome.
For those born around 1979 🙂

I was born in 1963. Was 16 in 1979. This song is my anthem
12 in 1979. Yes it has a certain emotion to it.
Billy and the Pumpkins deserve to be in the Rock Hall of Fame. One of the most important and influential bands of their era.
Justin Beiber is getting inducted this year, how exciting!
They’ve been being overlooked for 8 years of eligibility!! >:(
Couldn’t agree more. I think there are other bands from that era that are overlooked, too. It’s sad. It’s overdue for the Pumpkins to be in.
agree 100%

30 years later and this song still sounds amazing.
I love james doing Darcy’s backing vocals
I'm not sure Darcy did the backing vocals on the record.
The “and we don’t know” part 😅
I love this song so much
What a performance

so far, music is the closest thing we've got to a time machine
Good one
UA-cam itself is a time machine, but it hasn't been around as long.
Well said.
Billy is an amazing guitarist. ❤
What a dynamic drum part to this song. All the nuances and subtle changes bring so much to the song
Howard’s best guest of this era
Still remember watching this on MTV as a kid in the 90s and just completely infatuated, nothing has changed
At my age and his age ,,,I appreciate it even more than back in the 90's.
this song is great because of the melody and the chorus riff. it isnt overpowering but it has subtle hypnotic tones and is smooth
I think the verse riff is better and more classic than the chorus riff. The chorus vocal melody is awesome though.
Señor ingeniero de sonido de Howard Stern, lo amo con locura.
Es x eso q no dejo al baterista dar el intro?
