If there is one song that captured the 90s music scene it's this song.
Ahem.. not really.. close, but no
@@LarsRyeJeppesen so then what is the one iconic representative song of alternative 90's rock?
@@socialdef3 there isnt one.
Let's collect some!
Bush - Glycerine
@C R E A T E T U B E 100%. People can talk shit about it, including Kurt Cobain himself, but there’s a reason it became so big.
Billy and the Pumpkins deserve to be in the Rock Hall of Fame. One of the most important and influential bands of their era.
Justin Beiber is getting inducted this year, how exciting!
They’ve been being overlooked for 8 years of eligibility!! >:(
Couldn’t agree more. I think there are other bands from that era that are overlooked, too. It’s sad. It’s overdue for the Pumpkins to be in.
the hall of fame is a disgrace
agree 100%
For anyone born at a certain time, this song will likely always be one of the clearest and purest representations of nostalgia.
I was just thinking that. Took me back to the mid 90s, the house I lived in then, the other music on the radio. This is awesome.
For those born around 1979 🙂
@@sylvainpenicaud5691 bravo mon sylvain
I was born in 1963. Was 16 in 1979. This song is my anthem
12 in 1979. Yes it has a certain emotion to it.
Most nostalgic song ever if you were born in the 70's, raised in the 80's, partied in the 90's, found love in 00's and getting my son into good music in 2010 and beyond...
That's me
I’ve born in the 90’s and this song give me nostalgic feelings as well. That’s something about it that triggers a nostalgic feeling.
I born in 80's I was in my teens when this came out, and this song means a lot for me.
Me too. ‘71
Wow, that's me... '70
One of the best rock songs ever written.
Easy there scooter you might be forgetting about Metallica
@@taytharbour2242 nobody negated metallica, brotendo. grow up.
@@taytharbour2242 what does Metallica have to do with the song 1979?
Calm down compadres...Zeppelin!
@@taytharbour2242 it's of of the greatest he wrote, not the greatest lol
I cannot believe it's been 28 years.... stunned how fast time goes by.
tempus fugit 😂
Yes, where are my 20 years. Nostalgic.
The days drag on, but the years fly by
27 years
You tell me, i was a teenager Yesterday..now i m ,43🤦🤦
This is THE song of my teenage years.
Same. Big time!
Proof?
My 20's! EARLY 20'S.....WHY CAN'T WE GO BACK???
Australia ‘96, driving around in my 1979 Ford Falcon having an absolute blast listening to this awesome tune.
lol 1979 in a 1979 truck
James doing the backing vocals ❤
No
Very special moment
Where is Darcy?
This song keeps the 90’s alive
One of the greatest bands from the 90's , legends !
Still magical as ever and always will be!!!
@The_howard_sterm_showI’m a big fan Mr Sterm
@@MaidenHelll that’s not the real one
First time I heard this song on the radio, I completely froze. Everything about the song was perfect. I was in the 8th grade when I heard this song for the first time. Hearing this song for the first time was one of my favorite childhood memories.
so far, music is the closest thing we've got to a time machine
Good one
UA-cam itself is a time machine, but it hasn't been around as long.
Well said.
His voice actually sounds great here!
Soundtrack of the 90's. This brings sooo many memories.
So good to see Billy and James in the same stage. Nostalgic!
Billy, James… and Jimmy :)
Born in 79, I love this song ❤
Pure musical songwriting magic! No pretension. Perfection.
Smiling politely
A ageless classic. I got this as a promo cd in the 90's and when I heard it..I was blown away..still am today
I love his voice so much
Such a masterpiece, one of the most beautiful songs ever written... brought me back to being a teenager in the 90s!
So many memories of when this song came out.
me too 😔
Billy is an amazing guitarist. ❤
I love james doing Darcy’s backing vocals
I'm not sure Darcy did the backing vocals on the record.
The “and we don’t know” part 😅
30 years later and this song still sounds amazing.
I love this song so much
Good year to be born 🤜🏼🤛🏼
this song is great because of the melody and the chorus riff. it isnt overpowering but it has subtle hypnotic tones and is smooth
I think the verse riff is better and more classic than the chorus riff. The chorus vocal melody is awesome though.
Used to watch this song on MTV at 6am before going to my bus stop
SAMEEEEEEE
What a performance
Howard’s best guest of this era
A forever classic
Still remember watching this on MTV as a kid in the 90s and just completely infatuated, nothing has changed
such a magical song! i always come back and forth to repeating this song! 👍😁
Luv this song❤
It's great to see the actual band back together. It's a real pity D'Arcy is gone
She was no good. A huge liability
She was nice. But she was also crap.
Is that Jimmy Chamberlain on drums?
@@happity yup
Her "crap" was better than 99% of most musicians could put out today. She was a liability due to her personal life not mirroring her professional life. She can still thump a Fender Precision better than most folks.
I still keep this song on my song list from 90s till now
People don't realize how good Corgan is as a guitarist. Those are not easy chords to play, especially when singing.
I think people realize how good of a guitarist he is. He's influenced many bands. That said, 1979 while a great guitar song is not, by any means, a difficult guitar song. It takes good rhythm, but it's not technical. I encourage everyone to play it!
wrong. lol. People ..what people..? Also, very very easy to play. Sorry charlie.
This is my favorite song, and band, but after having not touched a guitar in 10+ years I looked at tabs and played most the song after five minutes of teaching myself.
Great song, but a much less technical song than plenty of others by them.
They are very easy to play. Lol
lol
Such a talent!
I'm from Louisville, KY and my band the Synthetics from the 80 used to play a club called Tewligans Tavern and on many occasions Smashing Pumpkins would play shows here as well. Great band!
They still ROCK! Loved this so much! One of my all time favorite songs. ❤
Listening to that brought back so many memories from that era. Life felt uncomplicated.
What a dynamic drum part to this song. All the nuances and subtle changes bring so much to the song
After school in the 90’s I went to the news agent and this tab was in a guitar magazine so I wrote it out in my school book and still play it today. One of the nicest songs to jam on.
So awesome. Timeless.
Looking forward to their tour this year! Thank you SP!
This is one of my favorite songs I miss the 70's this song always gets me to crying ❤
hearing them .. my life passes in front of me
So much awesome music in the 90’s!!!
Listening and covering them since 1993. Still love as much as before. Maybe even more. Timeless.

At my age and his age ,,,I appreciate it even more than back in the 90's.

Smasshing Pumpkins, minha banda favorita desde a adolescência!!!
When that pronounced snare comes in, gives me chills. Love it!
Music from my 20s. I loved all the Grunge and Alternative music that came out of the 90s
Maravillosa canción
Oh my childhood....good memories
Lot of memories with this song
Wow !! Que maravillosa rola de mi juventud , toda una pieza maestra , grandes Smashing pumpkin !!
Timeless masterpiece
That backing track had a mind of its own
Should have had a harmonica solo and some alto sax in here.
😂
Why so much backing tracks? Why can’t the drummer play the intro and verse
@@Mike_VH cause Billy Corgan
Me encanta la canción. Pero no logro entender lo que dice la pista de fondo
Otro nivel esta canción, clasica¡, y mil más de los 90´s¡¡¡
They freaking nailed it!! I love it bands don’t change up a classic
What a Great Interview & performance
