- BMW 750 GS. Riding modes in action. On-Road and Off-Road in Colombia. A short ride to show a few features in on road conditions and some mild off road.
I have the 750, my mate has the 850. I can do everything he can do off road, but I also leave him behind on the twisties on the tarmac, 19 front as opposed to 21. I love this bike,,best bike I have ever had, it does everything, tour, off road, race!! yep, done it all.
Niiice!! Yep, I'm currently on a tour around Colombia with a mate on a 1200GS. Glad I have the 750... and this country is throwing everything at us... wind, rain, heat, sudden dirt tracks, tight curves... 750 is plenty!
Depending on what you classify as off road. Definitely don't want the cast rims in real off road.

It's good to see someone actually taking the 750 through some "off road" roads. The subject of it being less than the 850 is due to BMW de-Tuining ... if that's how it's said. They just used the computer guys to make it a little restricted, and let the 850 have all the original power of that motor.
I go to dealer tomorrow to pick up my 750 I've had reserved. And I can't wait to take it on some light gravel roads and go moto camping with it.

I own a 2019 of the same bike. On that model you can turn off your TC and ABS. I have say the type of road you were riding on wasn't really off road when you see cars on it. That is just a "narrow gravel road" . It's good you have them around where you live to enjoy them though.
+Mohsen G ... yeah, just an unsurfaced road, I point that out actually in a later video. From 2021 BMW decided to class the 750gs as an on-road bike, which is why they took away the ABS deactivation option. Which sucks a bit. Again, I talk about that in more detail in another video. Great vid! I know this is 2 years later but bmw-gps mount has a made in Germany mount for the nav for thr 750/850. Its stiff and gps doesn’t shake at all. I had the wunderlick or whatever its called and it wasnt good. The gps vibrated so much it was hard to see.

Great video, thanks for sharing. I’ve been riding for a few weeks now, mine is a KTM 390 Adventure, I really like my bike, but I’m already looking forward for an upgrade. The 750 gs might be the next one!

Great job! Very educational. I am contemplating my option between 750 and 850. 750 makes sense because of my shorter stature. It is great to see the 750 handles reasonable off road work nicely.
To be honest the tyres are not great for off-road, especially wet mud. What I did in that video was probably the 'most' the stock tyres can handle, otherwise you would need to change them. But anyone mainly riding on normal roads, the tyres are fine... Which are 'Anakee III' by the way.

I tried the 850 before I bought the 750. The first handles badly on road, and it's more expensive. Until you're a hard-core off-roader (which I'm not) you don't need the 850.
I'm actually very surprised how well balanced the 750 is. For mud and thicker sand, Mitas 07+ . But otherwise the Anakee's are fine doing the sort of road Dean did here. I'm 6ft3 and really appreciate the low centre of gravity and smaller size of the 750. It's an awesome bike period.

Anikee III. Fine for loose gravel and dry mud, but no good off road in the rain. But I'm 99% on-road for my current trip, so these are fine.

Hola vecino. You're right, I didn't mention suspension... Well, I did, but it got lost in an edit... Basically it's electronic and adjustable depending on one or two riders, and with or without luggage. It then adapts. I've not tested it in extreme environments, but it's very responsive and comfortable when off-road.
I’ve been riding a 750GS for the last few years, always in dynamic mode. I find little difference in the other modes when riding but both rain and road are too soft, most noticeable leaving junctions etc when it can almost feel as if it’s going to stall. It’s manageable on my own but two up seems to increase the problem. I have a 1250 as well and two up that rides a lot smoother in rain mode.
+SouthWest 6031... absolutely agree, very slow in rain mode... not just from junctions but when you need to be evasive in the rain. The lack of power to get out of danger is the obvious downside. But it's ideal for inexperienced riders on corners, but that about it. Even then the inexperienced rider only has to use it a few times and they too will convert to 'always dynamic' once they instinctively know the feel. But it sells bikes I guess, and gives the salesperson something to talk about!! Yes, I'd imagine the 1250 modes are a better, I've never actually tried them.
You might not find much difference, but believe me, the way about how the break works can be noticeable.

+William Sanchez... Hi William. first you need to buy the bracket... like this:amzn.to/3vCg2qe. And then it's really easy to install. When done just attach the nav holder to the central bar, a perfect fit, and then wire-tie the cable along the arm of the bracket so it doesn't flap about. Good luck. Oh, and I'm in NY as I write, and have a meeting over in New Jersey this afternoon. Nice and sunny today, but missing the warm weather in Colombia. Returning tomorrow. 😄👍🏻

Hola! Do you have any info about average fuel consumption? I mean relaxed touring and in city riding at around 4.5k - 5k revs? Can you spot any differences between modes with the fuel consumption?
+dimitris katsoulis... That's a very good question. I've not tested it, but I would suspect it is a very minimal difference. Also, the modes is really about traction control at lower speeds or when accelerating, so I would imagine that riding at revs over 4k would consume the same amount of gas regardless of mode. But that's made me think...

Hi Noel. Yes it was an easy job, nothing too technical. I got the bracket from AliExpress. It's also on Amazon, but most sellers get all this after market stuff from AliExpress anyway, so I just cut out the middle man. Unless you don't mind paying a little extra to get it quicker. I have the exact same bike (in Netherlands). It's perfect for what I need but I can't help feeling that the 1250 with drive shaft would have been my perfect ride. Maybe in a couple of years. I love this bike nevertheless.
Yes, nice and flat where you are with long roads out to Germany, France etc. I lived in Switzerland and Germany for a combined 15 years and pretty much rode all over on my Honda Shadow 750... also with drive shaft.

750 is just the name. It has a 850 cc engine
Yes, true - However, the actual output on the 850 has more horse-power and more torque. I think due to the longer length, larger front wheel size, height and weight - I assume - because the bore size and cylinder lengths are the same, actually 853 cc to be exact. Even petrol consumption is the same. Maybe someone has a better answer for those that want to get right down into the specifics. But yeah, good observation and defo worthy of note in a future video. Funny how we still measure the power of engines by 'horses' - Even rocket engines... yet no amount of horses could ever go 'up'... thought for the day!

+roey paster ... That's a Garmin on the bike, but I mostly use Google Maps on my phone.

@@Queen-dl5ju oh, right. Sorry. Yeah, some of them rattle along with wobbly wheels and the horse power of a hair dryer, but they manage fine. But you do see a lot being pushed as well. I must do a video on that one day. So many old bikes and 'cheap' imports over here, they're always breaking down.
