Thank you for ruining a format that was just meant to make creepy aspects things more well known, as well as make fun of creepypasta history Channel conspiracy type stuff
Also I don't sincerely entirely blame you, the format started ruining itself once it became a meme applied to everything, but if you're the dude that made it a UA-cam trend that certainly blew it's ass out. I haven't even actively browsed 4chan in a few years and that was the only place I usually saw it, so I couldn't care much less, not that I mean to imply meme charts ever deserved any sort of arthouse praise to begin with.
Hi, Josh! What a nice surprise to find you here! Are you a Donkey Kong fan too? I've watched a lot of your videos, and it is such a bummer that you're struggling with your channel, because there are so many people who love your works, me included! I really wish you the best of luck with whatever your next project will be, because you'll certainly need it!
@@cgnfake6721 I don’t have a problem with iceberg videos, I actually really like them, but when it comes to mish koz and how he got really popular most people probably (not saying all) only watch and know him for his iceberg videos. I hope that makes sense I’m not all good with expressing or explaining myself, thanks for the question tho lol
Since you pointed it out, I want you to know that the earliest example of Donkey Kong having teeth in this era was in the TV show, where they were also weirdly retractable.
I really like the way this video was structured and paced! Something that caught me off-guard was at 15:41. I grew up with the GBA port and I never noticed that at all. Had to go back and check it for myself.
For the underground segments - They might’ve decided to use a parrot instead of an owl to reference how miners used to carry parrots to help detect harmful gases
Teeth can be considered scary, if you look at Early Pokemon Renders, both Lapras and Nidoqueen have more teeth that were removed to make them cuter in later iterations. I can only figure this is why Dk's Teeth disappear, to make him friendly looking unless he's angry.
This was great--I loved the early concepts & designs bit, I hadn't seen all of Gregg Mayles' Tweets so the design document was especially cool (of course Rare would try for a name like Hooter)! It was also super neat hearing about CRT display vs pixel perfect, I hadn't really considered the benefits and downsides to each since I'm so used to emulation/Virtual Console as an easier way to record footage 😅
This may be my #1 most consistently enjoyable video. There's just such a fun, cozy air to it, like hanging out with a friend and bonding over something that you're both oddly knowledgeable about.
mish your videos are consistently such a huge cut above the rest in blending dedicated research with a personable demeanor and humor. i get stoked every time i see a new upload from you!
Dude, you should make a video about the eerie aspects of Donkey Kong 64, and how it has way too many "spooky" elements, like Frantic Factory, Creepy Castle, the weird club monsters, how all minecart minigames pushed way too hard on being loud and scary (specially the last one), and many more details! Great video like always, sooo interesting! Glad to see more people interested in the "little" details that I've always admired since I was a child!
I think the whole thing with the teeth is artistic choice. DK's teeth flare up whenever he's mad, aggressive, or going for a big emotion (like on the cover of Tropical Freeze), while he tends to be "toothless" when he's calm. The thing is, when it comes to character design, big teeth tend to make characters look edgy or intimidating, and that's probably not what Rare wanted to go with for their laidback, fun-loving take on DK.
I really love long videos like this, & it was neat to see all this diving into information! Thanks a bunch for uploading! Looking forward to future parts!
Just yesterday I was rewatching the Mario 64 iceberg, which brought me some good memories, then thinking "I wish Mish Koz made another one". Yes I know it's not technically an iceberg but it's close enough. I'll watch it later tonight. Thank you!

Honestly? I prefer this format over icebergs. You can just talk in whatever order about what you find interesting, without having to force some arbitrary order. I don’t even play any of these games you talk about but it’s just really cool watching these.
i played dkc1 for the first time a couple of months ago (switch online), and its really cool to be able to see everything i missed. i definitely want to play the other games in the series now. incredible video!

Iceberg or not. You explain and show stuff off well. Be confident and make whatever you want. As long as you bring your talents. It will be ok. This video was so interesting too, good job
5:20 I think the theme of each DKC game can be summed up to the different aliases K. Rool takes on throughout the franchise. DKC2 was obviously pirate-based, so he becomes Kaptain K. Rool, sporting pirate garb and wielding a musket. DKC3 was themed after the Industrial Revolution, so he takes on the form of mad scientist Baron K. Roolstein (the final boss fight even takes place aboard a submarine). However, in the first DKC game, he goes by his most iconic role King K. Rool, donning a simple crown-and-cape. This would suggest that DKC1 perhaps has a theme of Imperialism, which would further explain the military uniforms. The Kremlins have invaded Kong Island, they intend to colonize on the land, they've even set up a factory where they're producing god knows what… that whole schtick. Kind of echoing MatPat's sentiments for all who have seen his video on the same subject, but this is also my thinking.
Actually kinda happy about not calling it an "Iceberg" since 1. it sounds less trend-based now. and 2. I really don't like how the iceberg vids always try to make the lower levels of the iceberg creepier than they are.
bro i love you mish you are the coolest youtuber ever also I've NEVER heard anyone else explain why sprites are so long on snes games (especially kirby super star, literally played that game for years wondering why he's so long) THANK YOU
The turnaround animations for DIddy underwater were reused in DKC2. The dev team created a few levels using sticky notes to easily change the designs. One of the devs (probably Greg Mayles) drew an image on DK telling Diddy that a level would be easy, but it has many enemies up ahead. In this image, Diddy Kong says Sh*t. I assume this drawing was referenced in the last episode of the DKC TV show, where Diddy Kong says "I can't believe I used my best materials on this shindig", which sounds really similar to sh*t. Also, I think David Wise was high on 8 tabs of acid when he thought of Aquatic Ambiance according to that "Man Tasked With Making Score for a Monkey Riding a Swordfish Underwater Creates Transcendent Piece of Music" article. The website makes satire articles, so I don't know if this is true or not.

Emulation on Wii is definitely one of the biggest reasons why I've kept my current CRT around. I think it'd be interesting to play modern games (that aren't Wii games of course) on one, though dealing with overscan would be a pain.

Hooter means breast, the owl has a joke name they wanted to put in
31:00 Donkey Kong used to show a lot his teeth on the arcade era so giving his teeth back I guess was a way to make references to those games.
Cranky's tips are what helped me 102% DKC2 for the first time. I guess he really did get softer on the second game and later.
