This is actually a really cool video! Not only did you put a lot of work into the visuals, but you also were very careful not to reuse too many similar ideas between moves and animations. I love it! I've thought about a lot of what-ifs like this, too. Basically, what would Melee be like if it had more dev time and could represent each franchise more thoroughly? For example, I've always thought if they had more time, they might add Scizor to represent Pokemon Gold and Silver since he represents so much new content from GS between being a new pokemon, a new evolution, a new type, and even representing held items because of his method of evolution, all while fitting perfectly with the rest of the roster thanks to being bipedal. But I'd love to explore this idea further to the degree that you have with Wario.
One thing I would love to see if Wario having a three-hit basic combo from Wario World. I would make it unique though, so that the headbutt wouldn’t naturally link up with the first two punches, but if you did get hit by it, it would do heavy shield damage and have kill potential at high %.
I hope Wario becomes more weird and crazy, so that Wario Land Wario becomes a newcomer I'd love to see both sides of Wario coexisting rather than merged with some serious biase towards one side
I feel like the shoulderbash would feel more natural as his side-B, since you could then possibly jump during it as well, making it more accurate to WL.
Man, I love this interpretation of Wario so much, especially his specials like the Down B (being a special flatten state). He even still has super goofy, cartoonish angle. I like how you said that this isn’t a “Fixing Wario” moveset but rather a What if Moveset, it’s fun to look at characters and see what directions they would taken under right circumstances. I kind of like Wario’s actual moveset but I totally agree that he should have some Wario Land influence in his Smash design.
Great video, man! Just finished watching and when it comes to your content, I love how in-depth you go when you want to explore something in/about a game.
I like to imagine how people would see in the hurry up segments of Wario Land 4. It’s crystal clear the closer things are to you but the farther you see the more distorted it gets, until you actually get there in which it’s clear again
I love Melee, not really for its competitive gameplay (although that can be fun of course), but for its unique and weird aesthetic. As you described so aptly, its characters are sort of weird "HD" versions of their N64 appearances. My favorite is for sure Luigi, who I always affectionately refer to as "round-faced Luigi." I'd love it if you did another video like this one but explaining your ideal version of Luigi's Melee moveset based on Luigi's Mansion, but I understand a video like this is a big undertaking so it's just a pipe dream. Anyway, going back to the whole "Melee aesthetic" thing, for that reason I get a big kick out of you specifically using a Wario model that would represent his appearance at that time. I especially enjoyed seeing his model in all the extra weird poses for his special moves, and the alternate colors. Cool stuff. Cool video too! Nice work. Gave this one a like, which I don't do often.
7:29 Its not too far off. Sakurai gets permission to take a look at games early before making fighters sometimes. But since Brawl released 7 years after Wario Land 4 it wouldn't make much sense in this case.
With Melee Modding starting to become more accessible, I hope to eventually see Wario in Melee with a moveset like this. It's only a matter of time now.
Models are definitely very hard to animate, but you might want to consider putting this version of Wario in Rivals of Aether workshop, especially since the moves that originate from Wario Land 4 wouldn’t have to be made from scratch
You can also check the Wario moveset from the Super Smash Bros. 64 hack, Smash Remix, in which Wario was added into the game with a time appropriate moveset.
Excellent video. I still very much wish Wario Land was represented more in Smash, especially having more Wario Land moves in his moveset. Wario Land is one of my favorite franchises, and I'd love it if more of the Macho Man Wario from those games was able to shine through some more in actual Smash games.
@@Mr.Feather130 The problem with Wario Land is that the combat is not great. Wario boss fights consist of throwing stuff at the bosses, that's not enough for a Smash move-set. Although his Forward Smash and forward tilt are reference's to Wario Land 4.

I just wish Wario's down throw was more like the piledriver move from Wario World, where he grabs an opponent, spins abit in the air and slams into the ground with them, burying them in the ground. The spin throw is also a sort of reference to Wario World which I like, in Wario World you grab enemies and spin them around before throwing them.
DBFZ is on another level of accuracy (but tbf they did have like 40 years worth of Dragon Ball media to work with instead of like, a handful of games lol)
The neutral air belly flop reminds me of the archetypical "body splash" air attack in fighting game grapplers popularized by Zangief from Street Fighter.
I gotta say I love all these moves except the Neutral B, Neutral B is meant to be an iconic move that would be fitting for Kirby to Copy. It should definitely be his Shoulder Charge. His entire series is built around it. Having said that, the forward Smash should be a huge fist, emphasizing his power over Mario and Luigi. It should also show off the W on the glove like the punchy gloves found in his castle. Also you forgot FTilt, which should be a belly barge. Also Down Smash would definitly change to the Shake It Ground Slam eventually.
You are so right. Throughout my whole process making this video I was saying to myself "I've gotta think like the actual devs" but in doing so I completely glossed over the whole Kirby thing. I guess I did kind of forego that line of thinking since I literally said in the video that I wanted Neutral B to be cool and overpowered lol. In my defense though, there are a few characters (Donkey Kong, Lucas, and probably more) that have Neutral B's that they've never used in their home series, so it's not _too_ out of the question in Wario's case. Also tangentially related but I absolutely loved your Skull Kid video. To me it's literally the best "What if X character was in Smash" video I've ever watched just in terms of presentation alone. Not to mention it was a pretty dang perfect representation of Majora's Mask all in a single character.
@@MishKoz Oh I'm so glad someone actually WATCHED it lo, criminally underrated video of mine imo. Also DK's giant punch I'd say was done in DKC2 after he was freed from K Rool. It's also a good move to teach early players about storing a charge. I've actually thought about doing a video on changes I'd make to Smash, ESPECIALLY the Mario series. With Megaman being such a 1-1 recreation it's a shame Mario characters don't get that treatment. - Bowser's Inside Story Punch (and VOICE) - Mario using some power ups for normals and NO FLUDD cuz that was ONE game - Daisy showing her athleticism rather than being a Peach 1-1 - PROJECT M SAMUS MY GOD
I feel like if Wario were in Melee, he would definitely not be like this, this feels way too reference heavy for the movesets that this game has. I think if Wario were actually in Melee, he's be very similar to Brawl Wario, but with smoother animations, Shoulder Bash instead of Bike, Ground Pound instead of Waft, and maybe a new Neutral B
A spot dodge followed by an attack did exist in Smash. It was one of Lucario’s custom Down B moves in Smash 4. It was definitely far more interesting than his original Down B.
If Wario was in Melee he'd probably replace someone like 'Ganon' as he was rushed into being Capt. Falcon clone or 'Young Link' as he's literally a Link Clone and has no references to 'Majora's Mask' also he could just be Mario with a ground pound move to replace the down special and a charging move as the for/backwards special if he's in Melee
The tweak I would make to this move set would be his down throw being his ground punch From Wario Land shake it, where he would throw his opponent down, pause for a second, and slam his fist into their chest
If you ask me, Wario's shoulder bash works better as a dash attack because it being a forward smash looks fucking jank and works along the same line as other characters woth shoulder bashes as their move like Captain Falcon, Ganondorf, and Terry I think. Wario's charging run from Wario Land 4 is meant to go on for longer considering that move is meant to be like a bullet train hitting someone, so that lasting for 3/4th of a second feels unnatural.
22:07 oh I see how it is. so Jigglypuff, one of the most adorable pokemon does... whatever that's supposed to be as a losing animation. but Wario, out of all the characters, not just claps in happiness when someone beats him but also shouts for them! this is outrageously out of character and thats how I feel about Wario in smash

These are some really good ideas for how Wario or at least "Land" Wario would be like in Smash Melee. Really faithful to the series.^^
I misread the title as “What if Mario was in Melee?”
Lol
What if
That would be so epic
Good idea
@6:13
His jab combo should just be ripped out of Wario World (punch-punch-headbutt) given how the game pretty much handed him one.
All the music stamps too! Love the extra work you put in your vids! It means a lot for both viewers and the composers
20:44 BOI BEYOND THICC that dumpy got me quakin. City hall gettin complaints over dat mfing dumptruck backin up
Great video, man!
Man, this deserves a lot more attention. Getting all of these models makes the video so much higher quality.
Perfect. I've been thinking about this exact topic recently.
I misread Wario as Mario both times this appeared in my recommended and I've felt stupid ever since
@@D3NPC Wario would be very upset 😔
I have an idea for Wario's down throw, he would jump up in the air and drill the opponent into the ground.
This would be a reference to Wario World.
Great ideas. Most of Smash's mainstays have very outdated or misrepresented movesets, I even made full sketches of Sonic's moveset.
This is gonna be the best video I watch today and its 7:46 am.
You did a great job here, I loved the ideas and what you pulled from. I wouldn't mind to see more of these.
Mish Koz: I don't wanna have two aerials that are too similar.
Isabelle and Villager: *laughing hysterically*
You can also check the Wario moveset from the Super Smash Bros. 64 hack, Smash Remix, in which Wario was added into the game with a time appropriate moveset.
*"I like this model."*
Excellent video. I still very much wish Wario Land was represented more in Smash, especially having more Wario Land moves in his moveset. Wario Land is one of my favorite franchises, and I'd love it if more of the Macho Man Wario from those games was able to shine through some more in actual Smash games.
Hope in smash 6,they’ll give Wario a complete overhaul on having his moveset more based on the Wario land series
And there only ONE Wario Land song in Ultimate
@@Mr.Feather130 The problem with Wario Land is that the combat is not great. Wario boss fights consist of throwing stuff at the bosses, that's not enough for a Smash move-set. Although his Forward Smash and forward tilt are reference's to Wario Land 4.
@@orangeslash1667 yeah but I hope both wario and Sonic had a huge complete overhaul in a Future super smash bros game (sonic moveset should be based on his combat skills in the upcoming Sonic frontiers)
@@Mr.Feather130 I think it would be for the best if the Next Smash would have just original characters and getting rid of everyone else. It's too hard to find a middle ground between representation and balance. If getting rid of representation will strengthen creative freedom, then so be it.
20:14 for the all famous "E-E-E-Excellent!"
By the way, the song at 1:58 is the Graham Blvd cover of Secret Agent Man featured in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show episode _On Her Majesty's Sewer Service._
Somewhere in a alternate timeline, Wario is in Melee, Sonic is a unlock-able character in Melee, and Goku is in ultimate
Wario is one of my favorite characters in smash.
imagine an hbox set on the wario's castle stage
Yeah... everyone talks about Wario Land 4, but what about Wario World?
I just wish Wario's down throw was more like the piledriver move from Wario World, where he grabs an opponent, spins abit in the air and slams into the ground with them, burying them in the ground.
The spin throw is also a sort of reference to Wario World which I like, in Wario World you grab enemies and spin them around before throwing them.
With how you mention Rivals of Aether so much makes me think that you want someone to make this Wario for the Rivals Workshop haha
Not really, I just like Rivals
There's like, 4 freaking Wario's there, one of which is based entirely off of wl4
Mom: Why don't you go play with the neighbours kid?
Neighbours kid: 15:40
Wow what a hilarious and NOT overused joke
I don't know about you but personally I would love Wario to be my neighbor
@@gamemesa Look outside

This is the ideal male body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
You kinda missed the oppurtinity to use the pot items from wl1 and vbwl but awesome moveset, this is really close to my dream wario moveset.
"not every single move has to have an origin"
DBFZ: i beg to differ
DBFZ is on another level of accuracy (but tbf they did have like 40 years worth of Dragon Ball media to work with instead of like, a handful of games lol)
The neutral air belly flop reminds me of the archetypical "body splash" air attack in fighting game grapplers popularized by Zangief from Street Fighter.
This is an interesting video and I would like to see you do more videos of this type for other characters if you were interested.
- Bowser's Inside Story Punch (and VOICE)
- Mario using some power ups for normals and NO FLUDD cuz that was ONE game
- Daisy showing her athleticism rather than being a Peach 1-1
- PROJECT M SAMUS MY GOD
@@MariotheAnimator Now a days' Donkey Kong's giant Punch looks similar to Chunky Kong's Primate Punch.
I feel like if Wario were in Melee, he would definitely not be like this, this feels way too reference heavy for the movesets that this game has. I think if Wario were actually in Melee, he's be very similar to Brawl Wario, but with smoother animations, Shoulder Bash instead of Bike, Ground Pound instead of Waft, and maybe a new Neutral B
i love this, i always wanted more wario land representation in smash, especially that stage sounds amazing
A spot dodge followed by an attack did exist in Smash. It was one of Lucario’s custom Down B moves in Smash 4. It was definitely far more interesting than his original Down B.
You want Melee?
Wario show you Melee!
First the wario apparition now this?
2:21 hey they were all released on the 21st of a month, neat.
Fun fact:sakurai said himself if he added 1 more character in melee it would been wario
So, basically, a super floaty character with good recovery and combo options, but limited kill options
it's jigglypuff but thicc
Wario's air speed in Project+ does make him feel like Jigglypuff on crack
If Wario was in Melee he'd probably replace someone like 'Ganon' as he was rushed into being Capt. Falcon clone or 'Young Link' as he's literally a Link Clone and has no references to 'Majora's Mask' also he could just be Mario with a ground pound move to replace the down special and a charging move as the for/backwards special if he's in Melee
The tweak I would make to this move set would be his down throw being his ground punch From Wario Land shake it, where he would throw his opponent down, pause for a second, and slam his fist into their chest
Or redesigning/recreating certain games and levels, like romhackng?
If you ask me, Wario's shoulder bash works better as a dash attack because it being a forward smash looks fucking jank and works along the same line as other characters woth shoulder bashes as their move like Captain Falcon, Ganondorf, and Terry I think. Wario's charging run from Wario Land 4 is meant to go on for longer considering that move is meant to be like a bullet train hitting someone, so that lasting for 3/4th of a second feels unnatural.
22:07 oh I see how it is. so Jigglypuff, one of the most adorable pokemon does... whatever that's supposed to be as a losing animation. but Wario, out of all the characters, not just claps in happiness when someone beats him but also shouts for them! this is outrageously out of character and thats how I feel about Wario in smash
i'd like a mix of wario world, wario land, wario world and super mario 64 ds
keep most specials (except for up) and all taunts
melee but better in every possible way
Melee is better now because YOU PICK WAAAAARIO
for his final smash he turns into the wario apparition, any player hit by the move dies in real life.
23:45 Slopes are highly illegal when considering a smash stage to be Tournament legal or not
Yoshi's Story though?
@@MishKoz I'm not sure why yoshi island was spared by the melee community, but its the expectation that makes the rule. Almost every map with a slope was banned in 4 and ultimate
7:29
Well that IS the same guy who chose a plant to be the next Mario rep over actually requested characters like Geno, Ashley, and Waluigi.
