Hey there, producer of the Curse of the Crystal Coconut animated short. Just want to say it's awesome to see that pop up on your list and an amazing shoutout to Alex again for his phenomenal work, he deserves every bit of recognition. Thanks so much!
Glad you appreciated the shout out! The short was so good that every time I watch the show now I imagine how cool it would look like if it was animated in that art style!
Another thing about the Sinhalese dub: very few songs were dubbed! If a song wasn’t crucial, it was probably cut out. Some episodes don’t even crack the 20 minute mark because of it. Off the top of my head, Second Banana, Candy Clone, and Creeping were some of the few dubbed (and probably more). And another really interesting one is the Anyone Can Dance reprise, ‘cause they actually play the English version for the first half of the song and then just the instrumental for the rest
If there was a part 3, Miro should add an entry involving "Return to Krocodile Isle," an animation made by Alex Henderson and also uses the return appearances of the original voice actors for the show (I'm not kidding)
Came back to this comment section to comment this exact thing. As great as Return to Crocodile Isle is, I am unsure if it’s inclusion by itself warrants a third attempt.
AWWWW THIS WAS THE BEST GIFT I COULD HAVE. This was such a well-edited and well-researched correction video that really completes the Rabbit Hole-filled Iceberg...for now. I really like how you brought out my Eddie theory to the public (when are we gonna get the DKC cartoon equivalent of Alex Bane?) as well as the many twists from the Old Man Announcer's identity to creepy eyes of characters. I will cherish this Iceberg duology forever in my heart. I know how busy you are with your other projects and I'm so happy you took your time to make my silly monkey iceberg into a video, thank you so so so much. Sorry if I sound overly sappy but...I don't know how else to put it. Have a great 2022 too, Carla. Let's hope to HEAD for a good year...sorry.
Thanks for the comments! Like I said in the previous video, I knew that if I didn't explain this iceberg and you were not going to do it yourself, nobody else would, so I wanted to show some light on this silly ape and his dated yet charming cartoon show. Happy birthday and here's hoping that we won't get a HEADACHE working on our future stuff!
Damn right I know about Funky’s stoner references. That’s why he’s not in Smash. Why else would he hire Tawks the Parrot to look over his shop while he’s out?
I love how you are slowly becoming a Dongstorian and I am surprised of how many of these entries were fan-submitted. Thank you for the shoutout, I really hope taht Basque dub is somewhere. I really need to listen to the translated songs and compare how the puns are adapted. Someone must have it somewhere if it was once published in a forum! That DKTV thing is crazy, Sir Pokon should check it out. Very weird, like how the French Commercial DK has Ronald/Gaston/Consome Panchi glitchy powers. By the way, if what you point in 15:55 is Australia, the lower white part is the Antartic and the right land is America, Kongo Bongo would be in the Pacific Ocean. The ending with the Eddie theories are golden, that could easily be its own separated video if you got more information. The character has DK's recycled model in white, which makes me think on the albino gorilla Copito de Nieve instead of a Yeti that should have variations on his design like more hair or bigger feet. What I wonder out of context and not having seen the show is if his sleeping hat is explained, alluded or if it is... just there? When you mentioned he could have done something horrible to be expelled, I was thinking on a Caligari situation where Eddie could have been controlled under somnambulism. That would explain the black circles around the eyes and white skin, how Cesare the sleepwalker is portrayed.
Those were reality-bending powers, same as Haruhi because they are (and in Gaston's case, was) the overseers of the Frollo multiverse. (Haruhi has them naturally in the source material (Yuki Nagato spinoff aside) but she's not aware of them)
I know i'm late, but there's one thing that wasn't in the iceberg: The Italian Dub. For some reason, it never aired on Italia 1, despite the series already being dubbed and aquired by Mediaset to broadcast it. We Italians back then have no idea the cartoon even existed until the internet happened. Apparently, King K. Rool was voiced by Doraemon himself, Pietro Ubaldi, and DK was voiced by Simone D'Andrea, the italian voice of Future Trunks.
5:42 Oh hey, didn't expect this to show up. Great job on both videos, they're really well researched. (Also, I always assumed the coconuts in DK64 were pieces of the original one, but I like the idea that they were artificial ones made by Cranky.)
I feel the Crystal Coconut from the show aand the ones from DK64 are too similar in size for the pieces theory to work. So them being fake, less powerful coconuts makes sense in my book
That Eddie theory is odd, I had actually thought of it myself a couple months ago, but it was a little different - in my version Eddie was next in line to become the ruler of Kongo Bongo, mostly due to how similar he is to Donkey Kong. Maybe they're siblings like Krusha and Scurvy because they both share the same model? Perhaps, under that nightcap of his, is a bald spot similar to the one Donkey Kong has in Bad Hair Day, losing all his power, which is the reason behind his banishment... Actually, speaking of Bad Hair Day, maybe Eddie the Mean Old Yeti is actually the original Donkey Kong, with current Donkey Kong being a clone created by King K. Rool similar to the Candy Kong clone. The clone somehow got the original (Eddie) banished through the same means as in Kong for a Day. That's just an unsupported crackpot theory though, but there is some potential in clones...there does seem to be a lot of impersonation, espionage, and psychological warfare in this monke cartoon. Oh well, it doesn't matter, this is a great and fascinatingly in depth video.
I actually love the theory of Eddie being weak because of his bald spot, it makes a lot of sense! Also really happy that you stumbled upon this video! Your uploads of the songs are what made me re-discover this cartoon.
Most likely scenario is that DKC Series is between the first and the second game. First game. every service is free. Bluster appears in the series and creates an economy with his barrel factory, suddenly everything in DKC2 needs to be paid, even saving.
Finished watching both videos and these are awesome!! I genuinely really like this show and I’m so fascinated by its production, so I’m always down to watch an informational video like this. Learned a lot of interesting stuff over these 2 videos. Kudos to Miro for making the iceberg and to you for explaining it here! 4:18 made me laugh so hard. I can’t believe Bluster ratted out Funky like that 😔 One more thing: I thought Richard Yearwood sang as DK in Have We Got a Deal from the episode ‘Barrel, Barrel… Who’s Got the Barrel’?
Oh yeah that's another one that he sang. I suppose any songs that don't require a lot of actual song performance were given to Yearwood aside from the love song. If you want to be precise, he also provided vocals for DK is a Head
23:45 Aw man, that's not Michael Donovan (Mike the TV in ReBoot, now there's a rendered 3D cartoon that would probably have an iceberg twenty leagues deep lol, too bad I can't exactly google it because Google doesn't do case matching)
I don't think that's him since there's no proof that's really him and Thus he isn't credited at the end super Mario bros movie Additional Voice actors credits so it could centrally be rumor.
Well the second season (or third) never aired in France at the time and was dubbed for the dvd release (with only DK and Funky French va reprising their roles and a cast composed entirely of French actors instead of a mix between French and Canadian French actors of the first season). This French dub was later aired on the Belgium channel Club RTL
@@skapokonroll Ian played Silver Shill in MLPFiM too lol. It's not just the Nintendo cartoons though, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man (both Ruby-Spears and NT Warrior) and ReBoot share a lot of these voice actors too. Most of them also later did Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures. And then there's Tara Strong who is in basically every western cartoon ever lol. She's like the American Rie Kugimiya of western cartoons and video games (they even both played Harley Quinn in Batman Ninja).
Another thought. Female Kremlings are also mentioned when K.Rool and Skurvy discuss having mothers, not just in “The Swamp” scene. Oh, and don’t look up “Donkey Kong County Season 3” by THE MOST EVER COMPANY.
lol that Goku thumbnail. This is too dumb and specific to be a real entry but I once discovered that if you let the final boss music from Bowser's Inside Story play for a couple of seconds then watch the dkc cartoon intro over it on mute it syncs up almost perfectly.
Cranky Kong and Donkey Kong are bloodly related. Donkey Kong Jr.left because he didn’t want to take responsibility. Either that or he got killed by the pirates. The cartoon runs on bullshit logic. That’s the thing. I love the cartoon. It’s so funny.
Yeah but Junior is never mentioned in the cartoon, DK and Cranky's relationship in the games was inconsistent at the time, and IIRC there was an episode where Cranky said that DK was like a son to him, so it's either that Cranky is DK's grandpa or just a paternal figure. Guess we can just speculate as I doubt we will get any official answers (the only member of the cartoon's staff that was active on the internet was Erica Strobel, who sadly passed away a few years ago)
@@skapokonroll That’s because the people who made the cartoon didn’t care to make it true to the games. They wanted to make funny bs in it and it works.
@@skapokonroll Why did King K.Rool give Donkey Kong the coconut back? Because the show runs on bullshit logic but, it doesn’t it in a certain way that makes it funny.
11:31 I remember seeing an extended version of the pilot with clean audio in a now deleted UA-cam video. If I recall correctly, it ended with an early version of K. Rool’s “I’ll be back” line from Double Date Trouble.

Oh yeaaaa. I have no idea why I credited it as Tropical Freeze, possibly because of copypaste shenanigans.
I don’t get how people hate season 3 as it’s literally the one that gave us Leo Luster and Be Bad
