  • Living off grid and on a mountain through the winter certainly has its challenges, but we always go into it well prepared. Our garden is harvested and all our produce has been put up. Now we're getting the firewood and focusing on filling the freezer with venison. Life is good.

I'm excited to see the new cabin that you and Lori build. As usual, it will be a piece of art like all the other projects you have built. I hope Frankie is doin OK.

That swiss chard in the greenhouse is huge ! One of my favs. I could hear that bull moose grunt as he walked on by. It's amazing how they navigate in the woods and just disappear from view. Last moose I probably ever will see was back in fall of 2013 as my sister, Mom and I were taking the last drive out of where Mom lived in western Maine. Mom had sold the home and property. This bull moose came up the wooded slope to our left, stepped out onto the two lane road and stood right in the middle of the road. We all came to a full stop on that road. He was one of the biggest bull moose (mooses, moosi? j/k)
I had ever seen. My sister and Mom were in a little car and I was behind them driving the U-haul truck. I think my sister's car could of gone right under that moose, tickling his belly ;) He finally continued his walk across the road and into the forest.
Later we all said it was a really nice send off for us all to see him.

It was nice seeing a video of all the normal life and 2 favorite people of utube. I just finished having a ugly cry from here in fort meyers. Its been tough. All the moods. Its so hard. No power and water, but 2:30-3 am got it back. Still cant shower or wash clothes though. We are thankful to be alive. We are on aquifer well water. We are thankful. The Lord had mercy. It was traumatic but we are doing good. Thank you for the video. Keep them coming. God bless

Acorn squash is pretty nice too. A little brown sugar or maple sugar with butter, MMMMMMM! That's good eats!

    I've just discovered your channel.
We're not fully off grid, but we now live in the mountains of Andalucia, and it's a hell of a lot more rural than mid size town in the heart of West Yorkshire, England.
It's amazing how I now see any dead tree as free heat, I'm discovering amazing new uses for our log burner and the wife just loves growing her fruit and veg.
We have an orange orchard and lemon trees, but need to learn how to grow those butternuts and cucumbers.
My next move is to make a bow for me and the boys.
Life one day at a time xx

Danny King of Deep South Homestead grows Cherokee Tan Pumpkins/Squash. Each plant produces about 40 Pumpkins/Squash. Thank You for your reply to my asking about Frankie. I was so very happy to hear that he is doing well. I loved seeing the Moose. Thank You J.C. & Lori! Brenda from Wichita Kansas
