Gomez didn't eat for over a year he did eat one cricket then that's it. I did hold my boy but not so much any more, he's becoming a grumpy old man lol. Thank you for sharing your rose baby's.
I got my rose hair as a valentine's gift and have had her for like 9 or 10 years now. She is so docile and sweet my daughters can hold her and everything . Only once has she ever gone defensive and that was cause she got some stuff stuck to her amd was not happy with us helping her get it off

I'll admit Chilean Rose Hair Tarantulas are just among the most loved and adored ever. I came face to face with a few and rather being scared I felt a sense of beauty and interest and in 2012 when at the NEC one was being displayed and handled since it's owner brought close enough to me to take 3 photos of it and the closer I looked at it the more fascinated I was if a bit excited. That's the closet I've ever been face to face with a tarantula and if I see another Chilean Rose Hair I might make an attempt to let it crawl on my hand to help me overcome the final stages of my phobia over them when I was very little but over time just learning about them and knowing that tarantulas can't kill us let alone their venom is not strong enough (from what I read in books and on documentaries). However it's still early days to determinate this but scientists are testing and studying tarantula venom as treatment of heart disease and brain tumor and other things. So there might come a time when and where that tarantulas might end up saving our lives despite they haunt our nightmares (for those that are afraid of them like i use to be).
I had a beautiful rose hair who lived twenty years. She was docile, but she would do a defensive pose whenever I poured water into her dish. Other than that, she was chill. I loved that spider so damn much. She was my girl.
I had one for my first tarantula, she was somewhat young when I bought her. She was so great, very docile, my husband would hold her once in a while. I loved her pink coloring. She lived for 20 yrs, it was very sad when she passed away.
My first tarantula was a male rose hair. Very docile, but wouldn't eat too much. When he would eat he would only accept small pinky mice over crickets. The little dude was PICKY! Have you ever seen the Grammostola sp. Concepcion rose hairs? They're drop dead GORGEOUS.
My daughter used to joke that her Rose was bipolar, the way her personality changed so drastically. That was my first contact with tarantula when I still suffered from arachnophobia.
I remember when i was young boy all i wanted was a tarantula yes i was one off those strange kids that went in the back garden with a jam jar catching spiders and insects. I begged and begged my mum to let me have one she wasn't to keen on the idea. Until one day she had gone out didn't tell me where she was going and she came back with a gift it was a Chile rose tarantula i was well happy. I had her for around 15 years lovely little T she was.
I just got one of these beauties for my 10 year old son. He's been asking since forever and we have both been on the fence cause of negative remarks. We are expecting the sling on Tuesday and we are so excited! Ty for the kind words and the encouragement towards this t. I got so many negative comments about how this isn't a good choice for us as beginners. I was starting to worry that I had made a really unfortunate mistake. Thanks for restoring our faith. ♥️ Love your channel, and all of your s.m. sites. You rock!
I can't believe you haven't featured the rose hair before now. You know, after Chile stopped the export of rose hairs, I stopped seeing them for sale for some time. Then I began to see slings for sale again. That's when I decided to pick one up. Guess they aren't going to disappear from the hobby anytime soon.
I'm from southern Chile, like -20°c on winter and few times I woke up with a tarantula sleeping next to me, after 4 times I left it in my room and it was always docile, although it no longer slept in my bed, I left it with a warm thermal panel and it stayed thereAs a child, I did not know that I should keep it in containers, I only left it in a pot with flowers, sometimes it climbed on me and other times it was just there in the pot or on the window eating flies, I never had any problems despite being wild and I was never able to get her to go hunting until she died of old age a few years ago.
Thanks...it was just a random song I started of a video with months ago and people really reacted positively to it and were upset I didn't keep using it..lol. so I just started using it as the intro and people still seem to really like it.

I will admit I have passed up getting a rose hair because they weren’t as fancy or colorful as the other Ts out there, but after watching this video, you really captured their beauty. The rose carapace is stunning. I guess all I’ve ever seen in photos and books is the common gray form. I definitely won’t pass on one now if I have a chance to get one 😁 thanks for the Videos. Have you Done any Nandhu Species? I can’t remember.
These guys are so worth it. I used to think they were boring brown spiders til I saw a photo from Kev McMahon in a group, completely changed my outlook on them
Enjoy the information, just received from Fear Not a Grammostola Porteri (Chilean Rosehair Tarantula) -that’s the info on the receipt. Good to know about the food strike, thanks for sharing.
Mine would be offensive sometimes in her old tank but since changing to a new tank shes eating everytine i offer her a cricket and hasnt been offensive once, she seems to be a lot happier in her new enclosure
Im 12 and about to get my first tarantula and this was helpful because I’ve been doing research and I’m pretty sure I’m getting a rose hair I’m getting all the supplies I can’t wait 😊
Im just about to get my first tarantula and I did a bit of digging on which T to get. This vid just stopped my search! Thanks and I rely on this channel to help me with my research.
Had a Rose Hair from 2008 to 2012. I gave "Spiderberticus" away to a tattoo shop owner because I moved to Japan. My Rose Hair was 50/50. Sometimes I could handle it with ease and sometimes I would get threat display and the occasional slap when I was just adding water or feeding. My spider had one moult while I had it, in the second year of ownership. Tattoo shop guy said Spiderberticus is still doing well, and has been moved into a 40 gallon enclosure. It has live plants, real logs, and a burrow that he made out of red sandstone from Red Rocks AZ. I have no idea how old it is, or was even when I had it. He said it molted multiple times since he's had it, nearly every year.
You have a Spiderling nursery 🤣👍👍🕷🕷 that is just adorable. Do you have any info on Jumping Spiders? I want to get a pair and I am really excited to begin my journey into SPIDERLAND!! From Arachnophobia to wanting 2 tiny and cute lil Jumpies! I cannot wait
Thank you for this Richard. Another Excellent Video. You are a Pro whether you think so or not. I have 2 slings of these coming. Perfect timing. Bravo!!!
rosies are amazing i bought a sling knowing it would be a slower grower............ but omg they are unbelievably slow wayyy slower than i imagined lol
Been looking at a good first tarantula for myself and am vacillating on the Rose Hair or the Brazilian Black. I appreciate both videos you have on the care for each species!
I don't know if you have a background in photography but as a professional photographer, I have to say your videos are incredible, even the live stream. I could use some advice on that aspect and I already have a new camcorder and GoPro Hero 7 and a Canon Camera. Macro lens for Android only and I hate the videos with my phone. I guess I'm saying "You're an Incredible Pro". Hats Off to you, Richard. Totally!!!
My curly hair juvi will not eat and I'm tripping he ate last week but prior to that it was a movie but prior to that every week idk but he won't eat what are your thoughts!
The new world terrestrials...especially Brachypelma, Aphonopelma and Tliltocatl can go weeks upon weeks without eating. Check the video I made on that species for more info: ua-cam.com/video/Ig4OhiLwCe4/v-deo.html
I've had some many of these tarantulas over many many years and still currently have 2. One i have had for 24 years as of March of this year (2022). She was given to me by a friend, who she actually got from her friend to give to me. The other one I've had for 16 years. Both are females. I've had only one male in all the years I've kept tarantulas and it too was a Rose Hair. Sadly he died of natural causes before I could breed him with one of the females. I have had numerous other species of tarantulas in the past. I want to get more because I love these spiders. Do you sell any slings?
Only just come across this channel and I am glad I did. I have never owned a spider but looking to get a rose. This vid was very helpful thank you. Any other tips and tricks to look out for?
I got her from a friend. We had to rehouse her because it was pretty bad. Then she molted, it shocked me cause she came out of the top. She still has a bit of skin on her abdomen.... idk how to get it off. I've seen some people talk about a really soft wet brush and get it off... but idont wanna hurt her. What do you think?
Also, is it true that they keep other poisonous spiders away. I live in idaho and we get alot of hobos. I just don't wanna move her downstairs cause it's rather cold down there.
Fantastic video and the Chile Rose is my next T. I've two T's so far a Mexican red knee and a Chaco gold knee sling I'm new to this hobby and I'm super fascinated about T's. Great content keep up the great work! 🕷
thank you so much! , I have been looking for a good video on the rose hair and you explained the difference between the portero and rosea which is a fantastic bonus. i just found you today this is my 3rd video from you and so far its been great, subscribing for sure!
Cool videos. Really helping me out about deciding what to choose. As I’m totally new to t’s. I wish jumpers were even half the size of a t lol. Where do you get your acrylic enclosures? Do they scratch easily? They look cool. Especially the planted ones. Great job!
Hey man! How you doing? Thanks for posting this great video Richard. beautifully shot and really helpful. My 1/3" Chile Rose sling died yesterday....had white dots all over it the abdomen and what looked like the white furry spore-like stuff, that mouldy fruit develops........ thought i'd check out your husbandry video to see if i had been keeping it the coco fibre + vermiculite mixture too damp. I had it for just six weeks in a pill jar with lots of substrate. it didn't moult or burrow like my G. rosea RCF sling but i did think I may have kept the substrate too moist. Your video doesn't mention particularly dry or moist conditions. Can uneaten, already dead prey, that then decomposes (btw. hadn't checked this sling for 8 days..) cause a sling to catch something? Sorry about all the questions buddy!
Thanks Richard! finally solved my confusion between G Porteri and Rosea. I'm getting a GBB sling tomorrow, and definitely will put G Porteri on my wishlist 😂
Awesome vid very helpful tips ! I have a 13cm rose ! What size cage would you recommend? The acrylic cage you have looks great just not sure on size any help would b appreciated thanks 🙏🏼
I have a very tiny little G. Porteri sling (3/4”) and she(I pray) lives in an art cup! She is a great little feeder and eats all the time. I actually have to remember to not feed her too much because she would gladly take as many as I give her. She has dug quite the burrow under her cork bark but hardly uses it, save for when I pick the cup up and remove her lid.
Definitely! I have a gorgeous one that I plan on filming soon. Last time I saw her she was looking a little premolt and dull so I was wanting to wait til she molts before filming her so she will be looking her most impressive.
I am very much a beginner, the one i ordered will be my first ever tarantula and i want to know if it is ESSENTIAL that spider ling have a tiny exposure because i have a large one, meant for adults and i dont know if i need a smaller one. Also, i want to know what would be the BEST and most common in pet stores for the sling.
I thought I had one in the 90's, but now I don't know what it was because it didn't have any red on the carapace at all, not even after a fresh molt. It was a chill spider though, it put up with me as a teenager in the days of heat pads and throw in 10 crickets... one time it set its fangs on my arm, so I put it down real fast.
I’m new to the hobby and just got my first T from fear not. A Mexican rose grey hair. I cannot find good care and husbandry information specific to this species. Is it safe to say the care is pretty similar to the Chilean rose hair?
I’m considering getting a tarantula, (yes I’m a beginner) and I believe the G Rosea would be a good start and I wanted to receive feedback if it is or not
Looks like u have to update the points about it being common and cheap. Just got an adult female in a trade but would have had to pay $500 to buy. Feels like yesterday when a big girl was only $20🤣
Awesome information, rose hairs are so common in the UK, but since I moved to the US I've had a hard time getting one I'm sure I can find some on fear not though, I really want a nice docile tarantula. My Brachypelma's are so sweet but they do love kicking at me 😂
How much do adults normally go for? The herp store by my house has an adult female being sold for $450, and I want to know how realistic that price is, as that is WAY over my price range!
Why are adults harder to find? I've been looking for either a Eupalaestrus Campestratus or Grammostola Rosea adults and I'm lucky if I find anything as big as a juvi. I thought the Rose hairs were common? Do you think I'll have better luck as Rexpo? Also is it me or have you noticed that dealers don't update their pages to remove out of stock animals to lure people to their websites?
Great video! Does the sex of T effect the care at all? Also would you ever make a video on how to tell the sex of your tarantula or what resources are available for that?
You know, your Spiders are your models and they work the runway while you take pictures. You should make some kind of runway for them and the photography. You know that's a cool idea dude :-) and Thank you for always emailing me back when I need help. That's an Awesome friend or Framily as I call it.
I want to say thank you for all of the knowledge (and tips) I just bought my first tarantula today and this was the one I settled on! Shes extremely docile and never once flicked her hair on me. Believe it or not im afraid of spiders but I want to get over that fear. What better way?
I have some of the linked below the video in the descritpion. I think they're under The Tarantula Collective Amazon Storefront link. I also pick up some of them from the container store and hobby stores.

Fantastic video and the Chile Rose is my next T. I've two T's so far a Mexican red knee and a Chaco gold knee sling I'm new to this hobby and I'm super fascinated about T's. Great content keep up the great work! 🕷
Love your videos! Great information.
Awesome video as always my brother
My first tarantula was a mexican fireleg, they are a bit more aggressive then most brachiapelmas but are my all time favourite.
Hay nice video, i love you're care and husbandry videos and recently got a nhandu tripepii. Wondering if you could make a video about them?
I plan on covering them this year!
thank you so much! , I have been looking for a good video on the rose hair and you explained the difference between the portero and rosea which is a fantastic bonus. i just found you today this is my 3rd video from you and so far its been great, subscribing for sure!
Claro, también fue mi primer tarántula, hermosa especie.
Awesome video , cant wait til my sling is that big
This is the first T I purchased. Still have her today.
You and Tom Moran have taught me to be an Awesomely Wonderful Tarantula Mommy
Why am I so CRAZY about Rose Hairs...All of them!!! Tarantula Kat has some wackadoodles but I Love Them!!!
The nursery is so cute! Great job man 👍🏿
Another great vid man 👍🏽
I have had mine a year and it went from the size of a dime to the size of a quarter in a year...such a pretty little spider
Cool videos. Really helping me out about deciding what to choose. As I’m totally new to t’s. I wish jumpers were even half the size of a t lol. Where do you get your acrylic enclosures? Do they scratch easily? They look cool. Especially the planted ones. Great job!
I've always liked the intro on your every video :)
Love the channel my man! Great info as always keep up the great work brother!!
Have One, Mine's 23 Years Old, merci.
Really great footage in this one 🏆
Thanks!
this was SUPER helpful! thank you :,)
My dad just got me a tarantula for my birthday 😊
Thanks Richard! finally solved my confusion between G Porteri and Rosea.
I'm getting a GBB sling tomorrow, and definitely will put G Porteri on my wishlist 😂
Stunning Ts! I have a lovely RCF I named Moppet. She’s wonderful! Have had her since she was a tiny sling. 💕🕷
Any plans on a video for the Brazilian blue dwarf beauty?
Your not lying when you say there are beautiful cause they are and as your self my rosea is also my first T WONDER WONDER T
Great video! :)
I’m new to the hobby and just got my first T from fear not. A Mexican rose grey hair. I cannot find good care and husbandry information specific to this species. Is it safe to say the care is pretty similar to the Chilean rose hair?
I’m considering getting a tarantula, (yes I’m a beginner) and I believe the G Rosea would be a good start and I wanted to receive feedback if it is or not
That was both my first and second tarantula (when I only kept one at a time) and I think they're great starters.
the_tarantula_collective thanks for telling me I’ll drop a sub
Looks like u have to update the points about it being common and cheap. Just got an adult female in a trade but would have had to pay $500 to buy. Feels like yesterday when a big girl was only $20🤣
Awesome information, rose hairs are so common in the UK, but since I moved to the US I've had a hard time getting one I'm sure I can find some on fear not though, I really want a nice docile tarantula. My Brachypelma's are so sweet but they do love kicking at me 😂
Cool voice my friend
That is awesome! That is how I started keeping tarantulas!
I'm going to hold one for charity on Tuesday for mental health. I've a horrendous phobia of spiders.
❤️
my g. rosea was a babe. very latge specimen too. i miss her
where do you get your small acrylic encloses from?
I have some of the linked below the video in the descritpion. I think they're under The Tarantula Collective Amazon Storefront link. I also pick up some of them from the container store and hobby stores.
