- Join me as I work on the Range Rover Classic in my workshop. Welcome to "4xoverland" channel. The world's first and leading global 4WD adventure motoring channels.
The title of this video is "Join me on a Saturday Morning working on the Range Rover | 4xOverland"
Sorry for the audio buzz towards the end. It was caused by an LED light. I was not able to remove it. And if I had reshot it, it wouldn't be real any more. And that's not the way I like to shoot things. Enjoy the video :-)

New range rover vs old range rover.
Range Rover is a type of Land Rover model. The Range Rover lineup consists of four models: the Range Rover, the Range Rover Evoque, the Range Rover Sport, and the Range Rover Velar.
What have I done? Have I gone mad? What does Paul think? This does not replace any vehicle and will not become the channel's primary overland touring rig. It's a stand-alone project but we have many long-term plans for its development and use.

You should have put some heat shield under the led strip. It's not much heat that will generate however in case you are using it for a long time you need to keep in mind that a heat-generating source will be next to a 50-year-old dried-up roof lining sponge which can be hazardous.
One of the keys to the success of your videos is your personal authenticity. You naturally speak from the heart.
I was trying to figure out the same thing .. thanks for commenting it .
i was banging my speaker for while for it to stop
:) We'd rather have the real thing than a perfect fake
Having your wife involved in your video’s makes it so nice.
Indeed.
In my opinion one of the best videos I've watched from yourself. There's something hugely satisfying about watching a man in a shed mending instead of just swapping old parts for new.
Kevin I enjoyed every moment watching this video. I think I saw Andrew enjoying life came through in this video
Their is just something so soothing about watching someone else spend money on fixing old cars.
Bulbs from Bunnings… 3D printing of parts….. solar power at workshop…. I am going to enjoy this series more than the land cruiser tourer!!!! Awesome video
This is why we love Land Rovers, there is always a little triumph to be had just messing about fixing little odds and ends.
Excellent project and glad to hear that you will keep it original
The point is: You - can - repair - it.
The Range Rover classic has got to be one of the most beautiful classic cars to own
I could watch these style of video all day!
Smart move Andrew. Original is the way to go not only for the future value but also to embrace its heritage!
Good decision to keep it Original ! 👍👍 they are getting too rare to mess with them, and your’s is pretty much a time capsule 🙏🏻
Andrew, you are looking really Happy despite taking your Range Rover to bits!
This is a classic symptom of Range Rover Love!
Ahh, wonderful!
Loving the tinkering in the workshop!
My favourite 4x4 (and l've had a few) was my third S1 Range Rover, a 4 door in Russet Brown with matching alloys, had it for several years and nothing broke or went wrong! Bought new in 1982 and still regret selling her.
Love your decision to restore it, I think it is the right one, Enjoyed the content of you fixing it.
One of life's GREAT joys .. tinkering away in the shed on an item that was MADE TO LAST !
Tinkering in the shed with your classic love it
Glad to see you going with keeping it mostly original. A little surprised you didn't just go with some LED bulbs on the dash cluster so that you more than likely would never have to change them again. Taking all the lighting to LED seems like it might be a worthwhile upgrade that would keep the original look while giving it modern reliability and longevity.
Maybe you've had better luck than I did, but all the LED T5 lamps I've bought were awful and didn't last long at all.
@@LesSharp given that is a fluorescent replacement bulb that could have as much to do with the fixture you're putting them into as much as the bulb quality.
which ones would you use?
Great satisfaction when you can fix something.
A thoroughly enjoyable 21 minutes and three seconds.
Great call on keeping it to an original restoration.
I like this style of video. It’s like we are there with you. I felt like I should go put the kettle on and make you a cuppa.
I admire your passion for RR. I agree the oldies are more fun to work with. Modern cars are just A to B without the soul.
Best choice on restoration. Original is great.
Despite your early reservations, more and more I think you did really well buying this RRC Andrew. It’s proving to be pretty honest and ripe for restoration. I love instrument binnacle on these, David Bache was such a great designer.
Well i thought you were going to leave it untouched, and use it as a daily. Glad you restoring it, but still use it as daily man!!!
Restoring a Range Rover or a Land Rover is the path to madness ,Excellent video looking forward to more 😀
I'm not mad. My mother had me checked.
The highlight of going to Bunnings is having a snag on a bit of bread.
This is just the trick Andrew and the fixes that make it feel good to great!
None of these are major “reliability” issues people knock the RR for and it’s so rewarding. I love that your passion for this to restore her to original and not make her a MaxMax knock off like so many landy owners do.
Oh yes , Bunnings . They were only $15 in Feb '09 and now at eighty for WES/COL . Glad I bought them back then . Enjoying the Classic's restoration . The three guys I know who've restored their's , all sold them when the cash was flashed . Last one was last year for AUD50k : "A" series , always in the family since '70 .
Fantastic... this brings back memories. My dad had two Rangies while we lived in Venezuela during the mid to late 70’s - we travelled throughout South America in them. Greetings from Texas 🤠
Love your work Andrew, following you for a while now. met you in RSA at a 4x4 expo when you had the Autograph items on display, still believe those mag wheels are the best looking ever. Your videos are honest. You thank those you needs to be thanked, and chase those who has to be chased.
Excellent work and decision on the restoration Andrew. Regarding the leaking oil, it’s British - enough said.
thank you share the video
good watching
So pleased youre keeping it.
Thanks for posting. Toss a drop of silicone on those rivets to seal and keep the rattles down.
After watching your Range Rover series, you inspired me to relive my Land Rover past Andrew. I picked up an old TD5 disco last weekend. So when I start getting grief from the wife I’ll be blaming you 😋. Thanks for the vids, the best channel on UA-cam.
Great video, Andrew. When you talked about the bits you kept, it reminded me of my grandfather. He was a technician for the telephone company, and when he passed, we found tackle boxes full of switches, diodes, and resisters in his basement. All organized, mind you. :)
Always a good feeling getting an older vehicle back on the road and legal 😎👌
It's mesmerizing to watch you do all the work, as always amazing Video Andrew. Thank you.
Thats great. I like the idea of keeping it original
Thanks for allowing me into your garage 🙂👋.
I enjoyed this video. Simple stuff but nice to see the DIY improvements and using the 3D printer to good effect. Bravo 👏🏾
Good one ! TLC has never done any harm at any time .. .. ..
Bunnings is my Happy place !!
That jumper is awesome Andrew! Loving this series too, cheers
Yes so many memories. My wife's Rangie lettering was modified by the kids to read HANG OVER....She loved it, they destroyed it.
I miss mine...
Great work Andrew. Thanks.
Great video, and having Gwynn as part of your stories is wonderful
Very nice video, love watching people tinker on cars.
🤣
We all love a Dremel in good hands
3d printer is the natural evolution👌🏼
Hi Andrew, thanks for taking the time to create the videos and content, always enjoy watching what you get up to! As a side note, I also 3D printed (PLA) some components for a roof console some time back. Worked so well initially but with the car standing in the sun a bit the PLA started deforming due to its fairly low melting point. Well, guess its a good excuse to keep on printing!
I loved it when you said your going to restore your Range Rover. Can not wait for the next video. 😁
Gwynn is adorable. Much
That was a good decision
So glad to know that you are restoring the Rangie! Way to go! I'll be checking your videos of it!
Mr White, thank you so much for making these video's. I look forward to seeing them every week.
On my 1950s living van I used small 50mm diameter flat disc LED lights inside the standard lights units, bright and gave good light!
Just removed the original bulb holder and stuck them in with 3M and connected the two wires.
Might help other commenters.
Such a nice video, so entertaining, thank you.
My dad use to say: "If a Land Rover doesn't leak oil, it probably needs to be fixed."
Another great video. Thank you.
Cordless Dremel! Right, I'm off to Bunnings then! :-)
😱 I didn’t know you could stop oil leaks on a range rover?
ASP you said you are keeping it original… stopping oil leaks sounds like a restomod… 😜😜🤣🤣😂😂
In my experience, Perth is very strict going over the pits. A major pain in the....
It’s probably been said by others and you probably know it already, but make sure you print your parts it in ABS or similarly heat resistant plastic. Summer Australian sun would quickly soften PLA.
I'm pleased to hear that you're going to restore this car and not swap engine, gearbox and more, which is why I commented quite negatively from your initial Range Rover video. As that prompted a response from you I think I struck a nerve, which was not intended.
I am so glad you have decided to restore it to the former glory andrew , also i believe you can use it as a second car .... good luck and eagerly awaiting your videos of the Rangy
Smashing I was missing the Classic!
What a great thing to tinker with on a Sunday
morning.
I love pottering on my RRC, so rewarding. BTW you can buy led festoon bulbs for those roof lights, fit right where the old ones go and work great
where do you buy them from? Also, can you get LEDS for the instrument binnacle?
@@offroadoffshore8987 Yes you can but I'm not 100% sure of the type as I haven't done mine yet. You can find the festoon bulbs by searching "led festoon bulb" (I got mine on ebay) and the rest of the dash uses T5 wedge bulbs, which are also available as an LED.
@@mattnoyes7729 ok thank you, I'll look for T5 wedge bulbs on ebay as the originals are so dull.
great - brings back lots of memories.
Andrew, seeing you use that orange rivet run reminded me so much of tinkering in the garage with my dad, who has the same tool, thanks for reminding me of those times!!!!!!!
Also seen as you clearly use Milwaukee tools they make an awesome cordless rivet gun tool, would definitely recommend it!!
G'day Andrew, I am very happy you have decided to restore the Old Bus to factory original, much better idea than resto stuff it up. You have a very good
basically unmolested example to work with & that in it self is a huge advantage Mate.
It was fun watching you working on RRC. Would like to see more. 👍🇺🇸
Im a LandRover guy.
From experience you tend to remember every little problem that you’ve had 🤣🤭
Nice to hear that you are choosing a restoration for the Rangie. I had an ex Aussie Rangie here in NZ and what you are are doing is bringing back a lot of memories of working on my old one. Love the Range Rover series so far, right up there with the Land Cruiser 80 rebuild. Cheers
Looks amazing! Good detailed work.
Seeing you happy is the best thing ever.
Yay!
Great video Andrew.
Andrew, that is about the most relaxed I have seen you on a video for some time. Time in the man-cave is obviously therapeutic.
Lovely video, thanks Andrew!
Great to hear you have found a direction. Very comfy video.
Hey Andrew! Was working on my rangie when this video popped up so I took a break and watched it sitting in the car :) A couple thoughts I had that I'm sure you may be aware of.
Those shift knob bushes are like a hard plastic that is just undersize i.d and oversized o.d. I'd stick with the same i.d you've got there on your print but maybe go a little bigger on the o.d and use some heat to press the knob onto it to get a really firm fit without adhesives. Alternatively the bushes are available new still for a couple $ I bought a bunch because mine were buggered. Second thing is I'm not sure if you're missing the diff lock light lens from under the binaccle but if you are I let me know, I may be able to source one for you. Last off I'm sure you already know and they might already be on one but if not I'd be chucking those headlamps on a relay to save your stalks and improve your vision at night. Cheers
It so brings back memories of my old classic Range Rover. I really loved that car. I have just purchased one of your classic RR sweat shirts from your merch store. Nearest I’m going to get to one now 😊
Gday Andy , who would have thought you choose to fully restore it . 😱😂
Makes me want to go an buy one!
the screwdrivers you have chosen are Wiha, made in Germany and in my opinion, the best screwdrivers ever made. They won an ergonomics award for their handles and the tips fit perfectly.
One caveat, please don't use them on your Troopy, only ever use JIS on Japanese products.
I was spot on with my prediction that you would keep it original. Great choice.
Great decision. I hope you enjoy the process. Lots of time and a whole bunch of fiddeley parts to figure out.
Loved the video and looking forward to further rangey content
Great progress Andrew,I think your decision,or plans for your Classic are the best thing, that’s if my opinion is worth anything, best wishes 🙂
People in South Africa: Bunnings looks and sounds like a much bigger and vast Builders Warehouse.
At least that's what I thinks it's like. 😂
Edit: From how my Dad has talked about Stahlwillie tools before, I know those are quite special.
I just know Gedore and that's about the only premium tool I know about. Never encountered a Stahlwillie before.
Gedore make these really nice combination spanners that have the deep ring . Love em, been using them for years in a corrosive environment till they wear out.
Great work Andrew, excited for the rest of this project!
Although the other adventure and rig building films Andrew made are awesome, this old Range Rover series of films might be some of Andrews best. Good thing I'm not a neighbour, I'd be pestering him about the rangie every time he would open his garage door ... When I was 12 (more than 40 years ago), a neighbour was restoring an old willys jeep. The poor man didn't have a minute of peace working on it, as us kids were around him every time he popped the hood open.
Very impressed with your 3d printing skills too Andrew, well done
stunning stuff!!
Carbonized grease is your best friend for classic car electrical connections!
maybe like tractor supply, harbor freight, good old ace hardware alll in one with some Walmart ?
This is great, i really like your big builds but i think this kind of tinkering is closer to home for the most of your fans.
Regarding interior LED's, i was searching for suitable replacements for the festoon bulbs in my 24 volt Landcruiser HJ60 for years without any luck. I didn't want make any modifications so i kinda forgot about it.
One day i started to think about LED's again and i found several types of festoon LED bulbs on AliExpress that fit perfectly and work great, the difference is literally night and day.
Great video, love tinkering around like that, brings me back.. while you had the clocks out you could of knocked a few miles off it😂😂 keep up the great work, mind your self and your health,be careful with the sugar, sorry for my advice but it’s meant out of concern..keep it lit 🔥 as we say in Ireland..
Bunnings and Mitre 10 and of course Supercheap is definitely a unique Australian and New Zealand place for men and women, when I was a fleet technician for Bridgestone these three store's were my regular places of importance for tools and toy's, even now retired still have to visit on a regular basis. ☺☺.
