NOTE. Colours look COMPLETELY different on your screen as they do in real life. Judging the colours on your screen here is like telling someone if food tastes good over the phone. You HAVE TO TASTE IT FIRST. The same goes here. You have to see it WITH YOUR OWN EYES to even begin to judge it.
100 percent. When I saw your old troopy in person the colour was amazing and I thought it looked good on the screen but it looked even better in person!
I agree 100 percent. There are so many different factors in play. On my side the painted sample looks to be more greish than the pantone print, but I checked one of those values on photoshop directly and looks darn good, way different from the video.
Totally agree. That's why when buying a new car, I never go by the paint sample plates the dealer shows, as it never looks like it on the car. I always ask them if they have a car anywhere that has the same colour for me to look at it in person.
yep your right Andrew on screen is a total different thing
Great choice Madala I love it very much, this color is rare at least where I live
As someone who's colour blind I think you had the colour nailed on from the start, it's the same as the current troopy no? I'm also thrilled to see it's the same colour as bananas, grass and my jacket.
😂😂😂
Gwen and you make a great team and you involve her in major decisions,Glad she approves and share your joy and excitement
O, she's a sweetheart. Everyone's favourite tannie☺
Thank You for an emotional revisit!
Yes! Cadet Blue, as I guessed and hoped for! Excellent choice, Andrew! Such a great color - and it complements the color scheme of your logo well!
Lovely colour. Cadet Blue and the colour code is T-449 by the way :)
Just clear bra it, the stock blue is beautiful
I'm colourblind, but really like the grey you have chosen....
12:00 sounds like we all got to pay 4xoverland a visit and compare these colors in person.
Gwen has a wonderful way with words. I very much enjoy watching her in the videos.
"You're actually quite smart." Imagine getting this far into "She's a keeper" and your Sheila having this revelation . 🤣
Dad used to say to my mom ," I guess I'll keep you another week " . It was there running joke .
Yours was an interesting and thorough description of the colours between paint and wraps, thank you. Very clear and easy to understand.
The color is absolutely gorgeous.
1970 - T449 cadet blue, what a great colour
Thanks for sharing Andrew 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I loved the way your wife responds to your life & lifestyle.....yes I remember what do they call it❤❤so sweet
I went to that exact paint mixing shop. Great couple of guys in there, helped me out with mixing up some old Land Rover 'Sandglow'
I like the slight greyish version that comes out more in the painted surface.
Can’t wait to see the outcome. Cool to see something different.
Clever mate , let the mrs think she chose the darker blue over the taupe & then knowing the 2 blues will blend rather then clashing with a taupe interior - nice :)
Great to see you both at the print shop and starting this adventure together.
Gywnn looks very comfortable driving that Troopy, I have a feeling your going to lose it Andrew 😂. My 76 wagon is here at last, I pick it up next week 😊😊😊😊
Yup , I know the feeling . My wife made sure she got the armada , she sold her car and moved the kids in faster than the speed of light , 😆 . She loves that vehicle so much.
Gwen is a total Gem, and always have been. What a team you are together ! Why not ask Snyman's in Cape Town what the paint mixes were?
Can't wait to see the full wrap completed 👌
It's so interesting that as he says it's pretty close, the camera makes it look like two wildly different colors
Agreed, until Andrew said I will be seeing it diffreently, I was thinking, nope, you have it wrong!
I see Andrew as my overland-loving-fanatic-father I never had.
So true!
Love the color you chose for the wrap, its amazing. Now I see why you bought the blue LC.
Amazing explanation @12:12 👍👍
Very happy with this colour choice! My girlfriend and I both love the dark blue Troopcarriers as is, this takes it to a new level of awesome.
The blue is quite nice but I love the Boring Beige. I drive a Boring Beige Jeep that I dream of Africa as I drive. Looking forward to your build.
T449. 1970 Toyota Cadet blue.
Great choice of colour Andrew. I really like it. When I watched the exact video you referred to in this episode, I too remarked how gorgeous the colour of that 40 Series was, and thought then, that Toyota should offer it as a colour choice for the 70 series. It really suits the old school lines. 👍👌
Really can't wait to see you get down to the nitty gritty parts on suspension, tuning and kitting it out. Wish we got the 70 series here in the US, so I'm living vicariously though you!
Wow, love the Cadet Blue, excellent choice, beautiful color!
I really enjoy watching Andrew overthink every vehicle I have watched him build as the perfect (fill in the blank) for the purpose of (fill in the blank) drive it one time and decide it’s not right because (fill in the blank). It’s a truck. Buy it, drive it, enjoy it. Meanwhile back in America, I bought my F250 in 2006. I paid cash. I keep up the maintenance and use the hell out of it. Instead of changing my mind every three weeks on a truck, I just continue to change locations. Rock solid truck, no payments, I know every inch of the truck and enjoy the hell out of it. If you come back with…. Well, Andrew builds these for a living, ok. In the how many years he’s been doing this, I’ve seen him do three. I don’t know how much he charges for them, it just doesn’t seem enough to be a very high volume of work or profit. I like his videos. Just build a truck, and travel in it.
If you spend 6 months building the perfect truck only to pick it apart when your done, it ain’t the perfect truck. There is no perfect truck. The perfect truck is the one you have.
Although I love to watch the trips you go on , I must say I love watching you build a vehicle the way you meticulously choose different accessories and brands has taught me a lot . I’m sure this build will look amazing. Great colour choice.
So glad you picked this grey-blue color!I hoped for this colour from the beginning!
Yep, Andrew, you nailed that colour!
My favorite color is Cadet Blue
ANDREW,
When Gwen tells you you are smart tell her
'Yes, I married You.'
!
He probably wants to stay married, so better hold your tongue on that! Remember "happy wife, happy life".- 34 years experience is teaching exactly that!😇
Nice work Andrew. I am going through a similar process to get my troopy wrapped in Heath Grey.
the one that is on the right side of the chosen one. That's the color
Love the retro colour of the Toyota FJ40 model year 1970 Cadet blue T449👌 Great choise👍
Have to be a clear wrap, the midnight blue is awesome.
Choosing colours is often so difficult. In the end there’s always a bit of chance involved. Great video. Always enjoyable.
That’s actually a nice color. Reminds me of the LR Series II Marine Blue
Always learning something new from you.🇹🇹
I painted my fj45 lv cadet blue and Cygnus white I love that color blue
nice colour choice but rrc tuscon blue is the way to go
Used to drive a FJ 40 Cruiser Ute in the 1970's in the Cadet Blue you are talking about. The ute was a bout 4 years old and the colour started to go "chalky". Presumably the wrap does not have this problem, as well as giving added protection to the vehicle.
Gwen ❤️. She’s the best.
This is going to be a spectacular build. Thank you for the awesome content, ASPW.
Wow I remember that video it was excellent
Color science is not a simple science. I must congratulate you, for making an attempt on and for "normal" people to start understanding the challenge! It's a science! :)
Great video and lesson on 3M wrap.
This is going to be a very exciting build!
Can't wait to see Andrew hitting the Outback in his blue singlet, heading to Dingo Piss Creek. Towing...nothing☺☺👍
Love that colour
Good luck to you Andrew choosing the colour. I'm terrible at that sort of thing. Ask my old art teacher. I'd paint it multicam and be done with it! Add a layer of dust and/or mud and it'll be right!
Tuff choices Andrew but like the blue a lot cant wait for the build
Andrew, I have to say that I am really excited about this next build. I was not in love with your last one, as innovative as it was. I also think the concept betrayed who I believe you to be as an overlander/4x4 enthusiast. The philosophical construct guiding this new build is, to my mind, much more ASPW! I see you returning to your roots and honouring the integrity of "this thing" we do with authenticity and simplicity. The colour of this new build is going to be absolutely stunning. You have me hook line and sinker and I await each episode with bated breath.
I love the colour great choice!
Lovely colour!
Congrats.
I know it is hard to judge, but I really love the Cadet Blue. A friend of the family had an FJ in that color and it was the truck I first off-roaded in.
YES !!! I KNEW IT WAS A BLUE 🔵🔵 🔵
Nice colour choice. Just a tip. The base coat on the grille badge will not last very long in the weather. It needs at a minimum an acrylic clear, or ultimate a 2k clear.
“Good choice lad” 👏
The Troops looks good ,should just get a clear wrap for paint protection
Again as always, I have no doubt you'll get the colour right. Side note, I really like it on those steel wheels. I understand wheels and tires are a big part of business.
Yes, looking far more purposeful than the selected alloys !
Taliban Taupe is the most classic though.
Cadet Blue was available on the later FJ Cruiser too on a special edition if I remember right… but I would give thought to Clear PPF or Matt Clear PPF as an alternative to the color change too… do agree that Cadet Blue is a great color!
I think it will look wonderful. I really loved the nebula green on the older build. I know it wouldn’t fit the midnight blue of your cruiser, but mustard yellow from the 40 series looks stunning too.
Love these first world puzzles! Blue for the win, so beautiful.
I enjoyed this video Andrew, Yes I know exactly what you mean about how colours change when you view them on a Screen. My TV always shows bright rich Reds looking pale with a hint of Pink🙀
I like your colour choice!
Back in Blighty that colour is always referred to as Hearing-Aid Beige 🤣
FJ Smoky Blue
No wrap. Leave it as is. The blue looks awesome!!!
All we could do as viewers is tell you what looks good on camera. I’m a graphic designer and do have a calibrated screen. When your green shirt was in the shot it threw the color balance of whatever format UA-cam is streaming to bring out the green in the painted piece.
So on the screen I am watching on, it appears as if the sample wrap swatches are highly glossy and the sample spray painted piece of steel looks like a satin finish. I wonder if your comparison process of selection would have been easier if you had buffed your sample sprayed piece to a high gloss finish, or maybe if you had sprayed over it with gloss clear lacquer. Or is this difference just an illusion created by the camera/my screen?
Should’ve got a Sandy Taupe wrap lol!
I agree, great colour😋
Man that's trippy that they look soooo different. I'll just have to take your word for it that they look the same. And that 40 series... I can see why you fell for it, oof!
Remember to weigh this as well. Very nice colour!!
EFI Fiery Spot-On would have been handy picking thru those spot color
Wow, that's purple.
My dad's widow was a colour shader in a rag mill for many years, I can see the problem you have & my colour vision isn't a patch on hers even now she's in her 70s. I still prefer the midnight blue to be honest, I think it's an extremely classy colour. Just possibly a bit dark for the warmer months in Australia as it'll absorb more heat than a lighter colour (OK, it'll absorb more light that'll be radiated into the cabin as heat - but you know what I mean...).
Fully sick colour
Keep it as is. Modern car, modern colour. Just my opinion.
I like this color, I want to wrap my wrx it that
I like this Andrew I have a 200 series that is blue and this colour could just be the ticket… must show my wife for her approval….. Mike
Love the colours. My fj45 is mustard. Not sure id wrap my 79. Long term wraps rip paint off if you ever try to remove it especially over time. I see this in our auction room detailing shed. But i love the look of your builds.
I look forward to see how a darker colour looks on camera. I guess it will depend where you will be filming and the backgrounds. For example filming on thick bush or forest vs the openness of the outback.
Andrew, I am color blind, so, this one is a true gem out of your books, for me 😉
The colour on the Aussie Dream Tourer was so much better. You should use that instead.
Don't you think you possibly turn your cars over abit too often?
Id like to see more long trips in Australia and the rest of the world (when allowed).
Anyway, love seeing the builds but I also enjoy your storytelling throughout longer videos and would love to see more.
Andrew missed a great opportunity in this video to actually yell at a cloud
To do that right you have to do it with the sun behind you 10 in the morning till midday to get a good colour match Michael
Sorry. But direct sunlight is the worst conditions to look at or photograph anything.
It look likes the color anvil from the Jeep Wrangler and new Dodge RAM TRX
It's amazing how lighting affects the colour shown by the camera... in the cloudy shots, your painted panel looked more gray than blue... in the sunny shots, definitely looked blue. Hope it works out!
More people are going to see it through the camera than IRL. Add some green to it!
Yay you picked exactly the colour I thought would look great on your cruiser!
Are you going to wrap it before or after the pop up conversion?
Painted metal sheet looks more like a military green than a blue. Printed samples are more like a car's blue in lighter specs.
C48 M32 Y18 K70 or K65 , that's a great colour Andrew
not quite. But close!
