Andrew, this is the way. Overland travel has gotten out of hand. It’s lost it’s touch with history and the nostalgia that made it beautiful. Having an older vehicle that takes planning and worry makes the trip more authentic and adds just enough chance! Good on ya!

I know just what you mean. I did a trip to Uluru in 1987 in a Subaru Brumby ute , just over 2,535 km and it was bloody wonderful, the fact I spent 10 days stuck at Alice Springs waiting for a new gearbox to arrive only made it better.

Couldn't be anymore delighted for you Andrew, this is going to be a brilliant series, although it could be a relatively short one considering the Classic looks to be in brilliant condition!

Watching the recent Range Rover videos and seeing Andrew’s emotions stirs up the same in me. I drove and worked on a TR4 in high school and college, and sold it at a weak point when I couldn’t afford the time or expense of doing engine work in my apartment parking stall as a student. I’ve regretted that day for the past 30+ years, and have searched for my car unsuccessfully. I’ve been stuck with boring cars since then, but just picked up my first British car again, this time a different animal in an LR3, and am planning some great adventures in it. Andrew, just watching the emotions in your face and body language, we could be brothers. If someone has never had this type of connection to and love for a vehicle, they could rightfully wonder how a guy talking about his vehicle could make the same emotions well up in someone else across the world. Well done, and keep up the fine work.

Andrew I hope this message finds you well. I was born in 1960 and when I watch these videos they evoke memories and thoughts that amazingly are so deeply ingrained in me. It's amazing how the more mechanical, then electrical older vehicles promoted an honesty and a respect for physics and our ability to travel in such a manner. Also with the right skills you could maintain your vehicle en route, and not to have a bunch of guys and lab coats show up with computers to get your vehicle running again. Ie the new defender 110??. What an insult to the heritage. The fact that you are intrigued by vehicles like this older range Rover, brings out your authentic character. Which I greatly respect. Cheers Mike.

I just love the history in your videos. Building the off road vehicles is very cool, and interesting. I have learned from your experiences, and I am very very grateful for your past hardships! However... the storytelling and history is really what gets me. Modern vehicles-even my 2004 Discovery-have such advanced features.... us kids nowadays don't even know how easy we have it, most of the time. Thank you for sharing, Sir.

Hi Andrew! I've been a subscriber for 4 years now. I have to say, the series about the source of Okavango, and the Canning Stock are my absolute favorite! The scenery, the colour, the sounds...we can almost smell it!! However, I look like a little boy on Christmas eve, waiting to see this Range Rover, and it's not even mine... I'm bursting with anxiety and joy, and a little jealous I must say.

Congratulation Andrew your RR looks great and I agree its the most desirable motorcar ever. My oncle got one of the first ones in Iceland. I tryed hard to persuade my parents to get one, but did not succeed. It was really a revolution. Extremely capable off road and the best car to drive fast on gravel roads. My brother had a tan 76 and we exchanged engines in that one in a weekend by sliding the car about under a fixed hoist. A friend had a dark green 78 or 79. I had a 85 2Door auto and loved it. Still miss it. The nicest ride on a bad road I have ever driven. Only the Defender comes close but does not have the great view from the drivers seat.

here at 2am in the morning my notification bell goes off and here is your video on the RRC and i sat up grabbed a water sat dow n to watch it, your anticipation is just a little noticeable ,LOL, it reminded me of my own experience buying my first new car when i was 20 yrs old, bated breath as one here described, i felt a bit the same as you , its funny to see your expression when your brother did the walk around it and you said these are all so familiar to you and your grind from ear to ear, this is like a mistress coming back into your life in a way ,LOL, you'll walk around it with that look in your eye and that smirk on your face obsessing over it while working on it < i know i have been their and have been accused of spending more time cleaning, working on and maintaining my car than with the girlfriend at that time, who i lost which was no loss, Gosh I'm only 20 once for petes sake , RRC Gwen will roll her eyes at you at some point and understand in her own way , then smile as you fuss over it, I think the only thing i do know of these is the gear boxes were quirky as i heard from the mechanic that worked at the Volvo dealership i worked at some 35 yrs ago, he loved Volvos , he was 1 of a few Rover ,Landrover certified mechanics in the province i lived in and had quite a following of customers who came to us because he worked there and he only did top notch work and fitted a salvaged 5 speed transmission from a later model and the customer was very pleased to able to say he now got some reasonable fuel economy and could hold a conversation with his wife more easily on the highway driving to their cottage each weekend in the summertime , I understand your excitement and relief in the grand sceam of things, this will be a very interesting series to watch and I am about to venture forth on my own similar adventure CHEERS Andrew 👍

I have a very similar story. 6months ago I purchased the same model car I learn to drive in. 1987 single cab 4x4 Hilux sight unseen and had it shipped from QLD to NSW. Very much felt the same way, they can tell you it’s great but you don’t know until you know. I’m currently undecided with the restoration, it’s all original, drives great. Not sure if I clear coat over the patina or restore to new. Good luck Drew, I’m sure she will provide you with some great content and memories. 👍🏽

Hi Andrew...you've made smile from ear to ear, that was the same as I was awaiting my first 90...the one with the 2.5 d...it had just come via the British Army and like you Andrew I was walking around like an expectant Father too!
Your RR looks lovely, I am truly envious of you again 😌

Andrew to the best of my recollection, the mirrors for 1976 were still on the bonnet. Also the one he has on the door is not the correct mirror. But all that can be sorted out, very excited for you, I went through the same emotions that you are going through. By the way, my father had the very first Range Rover that ever came to Iran. He saw the car driving down the road and stopped him to see what the car was. He was a geologist from England and sold the car to my dad after he went back to England 2 months later....Sahara Beige

@@element271 Yeah, that's the thing. Expect Australian cars to have different specifications to meet local regulations, perhaps like the mirrors and head restraints, or to get some sort of local content to push back on the horrendous import duties that were in force at the time.

@@element271 Yeah. Was any of the assembly local? Perhaps not, meaning Leyland would have been burning up local content credit gained on other models. Given the premium price, this may have also reflected the lack of local content.
