    I bought a Lenovo to take with me in a tour to Afghanistan in the Army. That thing was tossed around on helicopters and fine sand deserts for a year of hard use.
    Then back home I broke the power port. They sent me to a 3rd party repair guy that said he couldn't fix it for less than it was worth at that point. So, they offered to give me a newer one with a big discount or my money back. A full refund.
    No joke.

    Small note on the lenovo thing: everyone saying Louis got the repair, because he has a UA-cam channel is wrong. I have bought a Lenovo T470p for University. When it had an issue, i called the support hotline they ordered the broken part right away. On the next day a contractor visited me at home with the new part, took my laptop appart, fixed it and reassembled it. The whole process was finished in under 24 hours and the time i couldn't use my laptop was half an hour or so. I never had a better customer support experience. I don't have a UA-cam channel, i am not an influencer. I am a normal computer science student who bought a laptop. (I even saved 1 third of the price because I am a student. )

      If I ever buy another laptop, it'll probably be a Lenovo. I spent a lot of time thinking about it when my Alienware PC was dying on me last year (it finally died this spring and I decided to build a new PC tower myself instead - ended up costing me about a grand and I absolutely love it). Your story about Lenovo's customer service really only confirms that decision for me.
      Dell's customer service is absolute shit and I ended up giving up getting them to actually fix the problems with my Alienware within 6 months of getting it. I ended up just buying a brand new video card. The original video card was defective and they refused to replace it. Instead, they insisted on reinstalling it over and over again. Their micro tower was absolutely horrible to work in too. Just getting the side off was a feat in and of itself. I really wish that I'd done a lot more research on PCs back in 2012 when I bought it in the first place.

      @@SadisticSenpai61 make sure it's a think pad. The non business, consumer devices are as crappy as the others and the support is no where near the business support. Large parts of the thinkpad business support are still handled from IBM.
      Dell (including their support) can be great if you buy the business line from them.
      The general rule is: stay away from consumer hardware. In the end it's cheaper because it's repairable and overall more durable. (At least from my experience)

      it's now a almost normal thing for companies to offer up to 3 year manufacturer warranty. You just need to keep your receipts, read fine print before you buy, and you will be surprised how many companies do it. I'm pretty sure for computers ASUS, Nvidia, MSI, AMD, etc all offer a lengthy warranty.

    "They wouldn't do that for regular people" When I had a P50 and needed the cables and brackets to add a 2.5 in SSD for which you could buy a $50 kit... I called Lenovo Support to ask exactly which part # to order... and instead of giving me that info they sent it to me overnight for free. The same machine as picked up from a box store had the non backlit KB.. I asked for that model # so I could buy a backlit one and swap it...they sent it to me overnight for free. @@jgugsu7251 I look around and wonder why people spend money on Macs if they didn't need it. Like in my case, if I could use a PC I would, but my business depends on audio framework uptime and ASIO just doesn't cut it compared to Apple Core Audio. This is one of the big reasons you see people extensively using Macs for professional creative applications. There is a time and place for Macs, for sure. Ive seen it both ways first hand.
      But then I see people spending thousands of dollars on the highest end MacBook Pro, and they end up doing everyday shit you could just use a $300 PC for. If you are just used to Apples software (and are rich) I could understand that, but I have a feeling it's more of a status symbol for most over anything else. At this point in time at least.
      Imagine being a Louis Rossman fan from the other end of a Mac. Yea that's me, lol. I literally just forked well over $2000 dollars to upgrade my mobile system to the 2019 16" MBP, all while knowing how insane it is that I am spending that kind of money on a Mac. I not quite ready to go down the Hackintosh rabbit hole just yet, I have many concerns over the stability of that as well.

But the exposure the side bar and suggestions on the main page for youtube is really wide in range from those not as informed about the product they are buying. Then again I also feel that this video itself would perhaps give those shopping for an apple laptop right now to atleast consider a lenovo product now due to watching someone pour water on a laptop. If they watch this video theres a chance for em to watch the videos about the refurbished iphone screens being seized wrongly. Hopefully the videos being made lately helps the public gain awareness about what is happening besides to hear a flipped up version on a website or a 45 second news broadcast.

      I fix all of them - thankfully (other than the Surface) MS doesn't really do hardware in the PC world (and after working on many Surfaces I can say that that is a GOOD thing - they are so bad I thought they stole the design from Apple). But I will add that all of the major players in the industry who don't make crap for Apple are for the most part much better to work on and use much better quality internals; of course when you buy entry level junk you get what you pay for - unless it has an apple on it then you over paid for it.
      My problem with Apple is they charge top dollar for Acer grade quality internals, sure it "looks nice" but really who gives a sh*t what it looks like if it is made like entry level garbage inside.
      All the manufacturers have their own issues; but Apple is the worst I have seen. If we really want to get into it we could discuss the slave labour suicide camp walled cities where the companies that build this junk for pennies an hour wages and sell it for top dollar to hipsters and style hounds who wouldn't know sh*t from Shinola.
      Jobs was an asshole, but he was also a creative mind like few others that at least made attempts to produce a decent quality product - since his death the company has continued to live off the legacy without the skills to back it up.
      You want to buy Apple products, have at 'er - you will definitely be keeping some annoyed technician working at least.

    Back in the days of the iPhone 5, I was experiencing a well known issue where the sleep/wake button wasn't working. I scheduled an appointment at the Apple store to get them to repair it since they were running a special program where they would fix it for free. Walked in, gave them my phone, waited 30 minutes and left. I was looking at the phone and noticed that my screen was missing a scratch that was previously there. No body damage, working sleep/wake button, etc. My God, they gave me a new phone.
    While I appreciate Apple replacing their defective product, it highlights a bigger issue with their tech support. They're so advertent about repairing their devices and actually confronting the design flaws surrounding them, that they just give away brand new products or charge ludacris amounts of money to replace whole sections of a product. "Oh you have water damage on a ribbon cable connector for the screen on your MacBook? Nah, we won't clean it for $150, we'll just give you a new board for $1200."
    Think different, think dumberer.

      yeah, but if you had competent technicians working at apple stores they would have a lot of sway in the company and you wouldn't be able to just use chinese slave labor as an out for all your issues in the company. The technicians might even unionize and have power. The apple store hires salesmen not people who know anything.

      Yeah, I suspect because the flex joint for the early Yoga actually turned out to be pretty bad over the years, they decided to just stop making the old Yoga altogether and so maybe had no old models to replace it with. Also, it's possible to extend the length of the warranty as long as it is still valid, so if it's about to go out I could straight up just pay for another 1, 2, or 3 year warranty. Idk how easy that is with any other company, but I'm totally satisfied with my experiences with Lenovo.

    I still remember back when I was in Uni, I had a Dell XPS 15 with 2 years warranty, I spilled water on it, let it dry out for a while then it worked but definitely triggered the water markers in there, I think I also damaged some cables at one point when I opened it to replace the HDD inside with an SSD. At the end of the warranty period, right before it expired, my laptop died cause the board was covered with dust and it fried itself. Dell sent a technician over the next day, had a look, noted every problem and also the ones he knew I caused, ordered a new board and parts overnight and replaced everything the next day at no cost to me. That laptop served me well for an additional 3 more years before I sold it to upgrade.

    Hi Louis. I am a former Apple customer.
    For a long period in my life I was *really* happy with their products. My 1993 Macintosh PowerBook 165C was built like a tank, survived pretty much everything i through at it. However my very last and final product is the 2008 MacBook Pro 17. Which stopped working shy of 2 months outside the manufacturer's warranty... I did try to return the product to their store several times but they didn't want to know.. They didn't even offer me an option to replace the motherboard. This was before Apple declare there was a problem with the bumps on the GPU. By the time they actually extended their warranty, I had already ditched Apple from my life.
    I've never looked back since... Nowadays i use PCs and buy my laptops from Dell cause their customer service has always treated me well. Like Lenovo, Dells has offering self-installed spare parts at a fairly reasonable price, allowing me to keep my gear functioning. Personally I have no reason to switch back to Apple.
    Keep up with them interesting videos, i love it when you rant. Very entertaining stuff.

I’m not a Mac fan (tho I am a bit of a iOS/iPhone fan) but I like the clean aesthetic of the iMac and MacBook Pro I have a place to put these machines and a way to pay for it. I have an office in my house being renovated and upgraded and simplified. And honestly, the LTT negative coverage of how Apple handled it made me go..nope no no no way.
    Because if anyone else is equally or more likely to break the glass on the display it is here at my house.. and if Apple can’t even offer that basic service even at a cost, then f..ck them.
    The opening and upgrading part is a grey area.. for me not a huge deal if I get 3-5 years out of it before I need to dig around inside and clean and repair it.. I have multiple PCs for tinkering with anyway if I get that itch... that’s ok since I live on a Farm and my fingers aren’t known for millimeter precision anyway.
    Apple really f..cked up here.. with me atleast. I maybe helping a friend start a business if he gets gets approved for loans he needs and I’m writing checks for $50,000 for computer equipment and having that handled. Apple isn’t going on that list!

      If you like the MacBook Pro aesthetic, check out the Mi Notebook Pro. It’s basically a clone of the MacBook look wise, but has way more powerful hardware for a fraction of the cost. (8th gen i7, Nvidia MX150).
      It’s from a Chinese company called XiaoMi, which isn’t really known in America but is one of the largest electronics companies in China and is very popular there. You can buy from China directly or from a US distributor.
      Despite worries about build quality when buying Chinese products, reviewers have found the build quality to be very good, and there are lots of reviews online. After all, almost all computers are built in China, the difference in quality depends on quality control and attention paid in engineering.

    • @cataria3903
      @cataria3903 6 років тому

      that's the good thing of comparing build quality to apple products, chances are it can only be better, than their glued together hot as hell dumpster electronics running dual cores :D
      but in regards to build quality very view tech reviewers actually check that out, all they will do if we take linus tech thips as example is check screen flex, check keyboard flex and check keyboard feel, which won't tell u if they have a sata cable that dies randomly in it or horrible cooling etc...
      but until i saw the video about louis talking about how a sata cable fails regularly in a certain macbook, i wouldn't believe sth. like this to be possible, so xiaomi mi notebook pro sounds like a great option, because as u said they are all made in the insane place china.

      +Jason The iMac may not be their main seller, but it's targeted and sold to people who gladly pay the 5000+ bucks for a product as long as it works reliably. The shit they pulled on Linus is the worst thing they could do if they plan to keep any professional customer.

      If they could not fix it, they should offer a new to a discount price. If they said to Linus : Hey we can't fix it, but you can buy a new one for 3000$. That would be far more acceptable to my mind.

    Well let me explain it to you from a Tech person who went to art school. When you walk into the doors of an art school, the 1st thing they tell you is you need a Mac computer because most of the people in your field only use macs. They sucker you in....
    My 1st laptop however was a gateway because I was not an art student at the time and I will state that the gateway computer crashed and had so many issues that's I sir comes to Apple when I transferred to another college and they expected you to have an Apple computer (visial effects major)
    They again tell you that 90% of the industry uses Apple computers for visual affects where as they will build a computer just the is one program if it's a PC.
    Iv had many issues with mac over the years and I understand where your coming from.
    Apple is in this to make money by putting dollar signs 1st before the people's own needs.
    I still use an Apple today and I just upgraded to an Apple but newer. When you're stuck in the rut we're all you've used for so many years is the Apple, change is hard especially when you use it for graphic designing, video graphy, and visual effects.
    Again I was sucked into that mindset like everyone else who went to an art school. Macs are good for designers.
    I Only because Apple being Apple considers my 2010 Mac book pro an antique and tells me they cant fix it nore can apple spscialists like my sunrise computers near me even if apple has the parts.
    Im So glad that there are people like you out there that are able to fill this void that Apple has created on fixing things.
    I mean for just a simple battery replacement and a usb port fix... apples like nope...
    Yeah.. as soon as I find a computer I like, ill move from apple.

      Niall Asher Say what you want about Apple, but Samsung never caught up with anybody. They are merely copying every Apple's step. Case in point, the new Samsung is arriving with new wireless earbuds. Samsung is an overhyped low build quality device for instagram teens with a death timer of 2 years. It is inferior in build quality to other brands such as Sony and the current market's giant and dominator - Huawei

    • @renovatiovr
      @renovatiovr 6 років тому

      Fate Samsung is not a leader. It may be a top seller, with Huawei in the 2nd place and Apple in the 3rd but that's not what I am talking about so before calling me ignorant go check yourself. Being top in sales means little as it constantly changes, especially now with Huawei becoming a super large Chinese company with full government support with a political interest to gain the economic influence over the world. I am talking about build quality and to build premium quality devices you don't need to be the top 1 in sales. In fact, Samsung has shown otherwise- you can easily get away with shitty devices as long as they have an upgraded 2000mpx camera on top of your 98000mpx and plaguerized wireless Apple earbuds. Popular is not equal to right or correct and compared to some other brands who are trying to survive the competition either by better build quality or unique features/ looks Samsung is a piece of crap Apple rip off. Samsung is the very definition of mainstream junk

    "What if? What if?" At 2:34 I wonder how many people actually do that? I worked in a new car dealership and I was a service writer, who married a technician, and only bad technicians and service writers turn down customers willing to pay for a repair that wasn't under warranty. Sometimes they had "secret" warranties because if someone had a weird problem, to me, as a service writer, and I'd contact the warranty rep, I'd be totally shocked to find out that a mystery dent that happened on a car that I had told the owners "that's not warranty" only to find out that the mystery dent was a known problem, but because the bodywork was expensive, and wasn't safety related, they kept it quiet.

    You just need to look at it this way:
    Dell sells professional servers for business. Apple sells "Pro" Mac computers for business purpose too.
    Dell servers can be torn down without voiding the warranty, have their fans hot-swapped, power supplies hot-swapped, hdds hot swapped and some even the cpus hot swapped without even a single second downtime.
    Apple "Pro" computers can't even be repaired by them.
    Seems legit.

    • @steven4570

      Yes, they can be repair, under normal operation. Ripping them apart and breaking 3 parts isn't normal operation.

    • @IscleGaming
      @IscleGaming 6 років тому +31

      You didn't get the point. If it's a "Pro" product, you should be able to repair it nomatter what. You can build a Dell server piece by piece, you can hammer the motherboard and get a new one, you can throw a bucket of water onto it and still be able to repair it. On this iMac, they can't even source the LCD panel.

    • @steven4570
      @steven4570 6 років тому

      Who's says Pro means that? Who establishes this? I mean, if this was about someone who bought, was using it, components broke during normal use(because thats what everybody will be doing) and they refused to fix it, then I'd be in agreement with you. But thats not what happened here.

    • @IscleGaming
      @IscleGaming 6 років тому +32

      well, "pro" means professional, which means for business use, and as anyone in this world, if you buy something for business use, you want it repaired ASAP if something happens to it, you don't want to be losing money because a computer broke, right? What happened here is that they dropped the display, do you know how many displays are produced daily nowadays? I mean, they could have supplied Linus with one in less than a week, but they chose not to. If you don't admit that this is bad customer support, I don't know what is.

    • @steven4570
      @steven4570 6 років тому

      They'd need a display, a mother board, and PSU, because those are damaged as well.
      Apple's terms and conditions for repairs stipulates that the company will not service products that have failed due to "unauthorized modification," including "faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider."
      This isn't a case a business buying a iMac pro, it broke or failed while using it and they refused to fix it. That would be terrible cusomter support. A pretty big difference to someone prying it open by force and destroying 3 components

    Very good site! Thanks for clarity of audio, video -- professional all around! What I like most about your analysis of Apple's refusal to even try to repair Linus' machine is your detailed discussion of how Apple shot itself in the foot all around with this bone-headed response.
    No one can say for certain what Steve Jobs would have done, but in the 2nd generation iPod era, early 2000's, I had a similar Lenovo experience (described here) with my first Power Book and Apple Care. So, when I make my remark about the wrong-headed approach under Tim Cook / post Steve Jobs' era at Apple, I do so with some experience and background.
    Further, I would add that if Apple aims to maintain its trailblazing role, rather than skate year-to-year complacently sitting on its laurels, The Genius Bar feature of customer service needs to be improved to surpass the Lenovo level repairs discussed here. Improving Genius Bar might energize Apple's hardware development business which has to my opinion flat-lined in the innovation area. Apple has apparently also flat-lined in its willingness to take risks which is the piece I walk away from as a customer from your discussion of how the Genius Bar techs were unwilling at any cost $2,400 +/- to even try.
    Apple has forgotten no risk, no gain? And, has turned into mini-MS? I can't tell you how many discussions I sat watching among professional Apple installers f2f and at online forums where these techs railed at MS for a variety of complacent management decisions i.e. poorly written operating systems that took 3 days etc. to install and were buggy as heck; dirty code, etc. etc. Shame on Apple!

Some apples are known-lemons, long before being replaced by a wad of cash. In that case, barring your actual need for a computer, you might have actually lost brownie points for converting the cash into a device, re:Apple or otherwise.

    My father had a iPhone 6. This was back when the 6S was on its way. When he tried to update the phone, it bricked itself and became worthless. So he went to a Apple store and waited in line for 2 hours for them to tell him its a carrier issue. (AT&T) AT&T said its a Apple issue. He couldn't get the two to communicate together. Apple refused to fix it so he is now the proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

    • @HighestRank
      @HighestRank 6 років тому

      When the carrier subsidizes a phone, they contract a bloat ware company to preload your apps, which come packed anew with every Apple update. Apple was right. That's why I'm putting Clockwork mods on my personal droids instead of "trying to" (there is no 'try') Most Trojanic nagwares just sit quietly until someone 'finds' and tries to use them. Unlike your dad, I don't go try to zero-day [other] people's calling tools by pressing update while I'm just borrowing a phone to make other repairs unless I'm taking full responsibility for whatever results. I once stood up for hours in a 3rd party repair shop and updated one user's device before leaving because it was prone to failure and the shop not only provided a charge port, they supplied the wifi needed for it. I'd also just paid this shop NOTHING under their own no fix no fee on behalf of my customer twice, and they claimed to having forgotten the updates, but they would have eaten the device at their own cost if having damaged it. Sprint Samsung S6, no bloat ware, no mods. Your dad needs to sue whoever posted those mods, but not having been FORCED to update might hurt his case. Only MS marks theirs as 'critical'.

    Yeah, Apple screwed up big-time by screwing Linus over...
    I can't speak for anyone else, but I only have Mac products because I cannot do my job without one. I write mobile apps as part of my job, and I cannot develop software for iOS without a Mac. That is, of course, 100% deliberate on Apple's part, too. It gives them a captive audience who *must* buy Mac notebooks, *no matter how bad they get* .
    If Apple allowed PC users to develop iOS software, who would ever buy an overpriced Mac? You can get a PC with the *same specs* for a good 25% less -- or even less than that if you catch a good sale. And because there is *so much* competition in the PC market, you damn near can't buy a bad PC these days -- at least not in the $1,000+ price-range.

    I sometimes open up my Dell Inspiron 15 7537 to look for dust to clean out, but for some reason I barely find any. That's definitely not because of a lack of dust in the environment, I can tell you that much. I even went down into it to replace the thermal paste in it just to be sure it's not overheating because the old paste was getting too old and still barely found dust. Somehow they did really well to keep the dust from accumulating in it.

      By Apple's logic, there would be a lot of dead cars out there from errant repair attempts.

      Simboiss I don't know of any car manufacturer that would not repair one of their cars. Even high end such as Ferrari, Koenigsegg, McClaren, etc. As far as Apple computers being more complex I will respectfully disagree. All cars from about 1986 on are all computer controlled and most today are fly by wire without mechanical linkages to.the throttle. Figure in ESC, ABS, and a host of other computer controlled systems and PCs or Apples are easy by comparison. Also, since Apple went with Intel CPUs, they are over glorified PCs anyway so their refusal to repair one of their machines for a paying customer is not a good way to generate business.

    Thought id stick my 2 cents in to this one i have recently gone through 7 months.... yep 7 months of fighting apple to Repair or Replace my iMac. there was a fundamental flaw in the late 2014 27" iMac that after time caused the GPU to just shut down, thus turning of the iMac. this fautl was intermittent and alsodidnt happen everytime the mac was on. i went between the iMac store 6 Times (its 2 hours drive from my home) to drop it off for repair.
    it took them 3 visits to replace the logic board.... unfortunately thats where the flaw was. so getting angry at this point i went to the Europe HQ for apple care and put in a huge complaint to be told, Nope we cant repair it until the engineers give us an answer to what the issue is. they also asked me to take my Faulty iMac away......
    after 6 months i played the "petty card" and asked for a subject access request for all personal interactions between myself and apple in the last 7 months. they asked if i was taking it to trading standards for them to look at it. i said no i was going to send all of the information to "WatchDog UK" who basically look out for the consumers, and drag companies names through the mud if there is any wrong doing..... i had a call back 2 hours later to say i was being provisioned a brand new iMac 5k ready for collection the following week...
    Apple support = 0
    Consumer = 1

      Unless you absolutely need to use macOS (like me), I would advise appropriating your next purchase towards a PC instead. As a user of both Windows and Mac, I do have to say that macOS really does shine in certain areas (like audio framework aka Apple Core Audio), but *unless* you are working extensively with Audio for example, I would shy away from Mac if you can, solely based on the amount of bullshit and money one has to put up with if and when the time comes for repair or otherwise. There are a few other pros of macOS but overall imo they are outweighed by the cons of the hardware limitations and cost for the average person who really should just get a PC.
      As far as solely software goes on the other hand, I still am a fan (although I do have some increasing gripes). Credit where credit is due.

    Just let that sink in: an unfixable "Pro" machine. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. Its a $15k fully spec'd joke. Apple has made a killing off the the long tail: every day Joe's who buy phones and iPads. The machines are just fancy window displays. They _could be in the PC business, but its not much of a business for them anymore. Good on Lenovo. Tim and Co are working hard to drain every drop of magic out of OSX. ( "Who needs so-called 'colors' in finder??" ). Other manufacturers can and will build high quality, beastly spec'd machines, and the market will buy them. Lenovo, you can send a beastly P71 to this poor PhD student, and I'll set fire to my unfixable 17" 2011 Macbook. Apple believes its in the disposable gadget market, because that's wha'ts been written on the checks these past few years. When the checks dry up, they'll crash and either figure out what business they are in, or the other thing.

      Yeah, the last one I'd call Pro in a sense that it was serviceable and designed to grow with a customer was the pre 2013 (trashcan) Mac Pro. The big silver tower ones Level1Techs hacked up and upgraded to more or less modern hardware. This one seems to be an all in one designed to be easy for whoever's in charge of inventory of their business no matter their lack of computer knowledge to spec and hand out to people. Pro seems to be the synonym for "premium" that gets their customers more likely to buy something because they know it's slightly faster.
      Glad to know what Lenovo's willing to do, since my company requires me to carry a P51 in the field. Heck, I even dropped it the first time ~4 ft today and it worked without issues. I wonder what Panasonic's willing as I think a Toughbook makes more sense (and is much less a pain to haul around/has a screen bright enough for daylight).

      I like to compare Apple "pro" machines to "pro" tools. Pro tools like high end construction equipment is designed to be serviceable. Sometimes they aren't, but the first party manufacturer will ALWAYS find a way to fix your pro machine. We're talking things like excavators, trucks, boats and other such heavy equipment. Projects are dependent on these machines and reasonably serviceability of the machine is paramount to completing the project on time and on budget. In this sense, Apple "pro" devices will never be "pro" with this kind of service.

      Yup. The day Steve Jobs died. I kind of told a fanboy that this was the start of the end of Apple. And to my surprise, he agreed. And look now. It is all late-90's dilemma again for Apple. They have become lazy and things are looking bad. They lack a vision, and all they do is talk and talk and put out bs statements. Just as they did at mac-world, the year before jobs came back to rejoin Apple.

    • @bkdbkd
      @bkdbkd 5 років тому +1

      The machine is composed of a set of parts. Each of which can be replaced. It is conceivable that indeed each & every part could be replaced in a repair. This is still a repair. Apple refused to consider repair. To LTT's understanding they shorted out and possibly damaged as many as 3 things: The screen, The power supply, & The piece of glass that covers the machine. The sum total price of those parts in most parts of the galaxy is way less than the $7300.00 price tag of a 'mid-spec' iMacPro.
      When we use the Pro - we mean professional, as in 'People use this tool to professionally'. The understood requirements of a professional computing tool are: 1. That it work consistently, 2. That it can be modified to suit the professional's needs - upgraded, parts replaced. 3. That it can be repaired within 1-2 business days, preferably much less than one day. 4. That it is "Fully Supported". That means that for the near future, the company continues to update, support, repair, and reasonably supply the tools and parts needed for any repair.
      Otherwise what you have is not professional. Is improperly marketed as a Pro machine. Not bad, but not professional. If you'd like examples in the computer industry - google Dell's enterprise hardware. They often same-day ship parts and have techs who come to you, for instance, and will loan you another one while you wait. In other industries, look at the Professional line of Nikon equipment. It can fall off an exploding boat in the north Atlantic and they can and will repair it. More importantly, (Tim, Phil if you're still reading) They have the will to stand behind what they make. They made it, they will make it right, even if you didn't buy the fairy insurance. Apple chose to climb to the rarified air of the $15,000 (top price of the iMac Pro) Professional Computer game. It appears they don't know why they are here.

      If your neighbors crazy ex-boyfriend pours sugar down your gas tank by mistake. If your nephew takes your 3 month old Charger for a ride and manages to blow the engine. If the auto club guy connects the jumper cables backward and fries the ECU. With cash in hand you can go to the dealer and pay for a repair. When all was said and done Dude went, cash in hand for a repair of his so called pro machine, and apple said they refuse to work on it. If folks are cool with that then Apple's their lifestyle brand of choice. If you watch his Followup, it was simply and quickly repaired for a crap ton less than a new machine.

    Hi Lou
    I was an IBM Customer Engineer for 30 years. Extensive training on mid range and pc computers. IBM made a fatal error in the 80’s
    There ignored their customers and took a myopic view of service. It cost them 30% of the market place at that time. They fixed it.
    So their service philosophy is what is behind the Thinkpad, hence the good service you received. Fix it no matter what you are a customer
    And your brand loyalty is important. I have a 15 year old A22 laptop from IBM and it still works, granted it is a 32 bit processor, only can run
    Apps that support that. That is longevity. I have an Apple MacBook Pro 2011 that I have upgraded to run faster and an iPad. I started
    With a G4 MacBook and upgraded it until Apple changed the OS because of the cpu chip. I gave it away to a friend and think it still works.
    What Apple is doing is suicide, only a matter of time until their numnut buyers realize and rebel, and start losing significant
    Sales loses then they may change their philosophy. If not we will be talking about them as history of failed businesses in 5 years.
