    Samsung’s revenue is 22.4% of South Korea’s GDP. Their assets enable 42% of the GDP and they make 20% of the exports. Imagine how powerful they are there 😱

    Samsung repair is ridiculous. My mom had a green Galaxy S22 and accidentally cracked her screen. She contacted Samsung to get it fixed and they said she could mail it in where it takes 3 to 6 weeks for it to be fixed and returned, and it gets wiped in the process. For a fucking screen repair, why???
    They said the other option is a local authorized repair shop. She called TWO of them who told her the exact same thing - they are not allowed to keep a stock of parts from Samsung and they have to be ordered at-the-time when a customer needs a repair. And they both said the green screens show "unknown availability" and so they have no idea when they'd receive a panel - likely many weeks. Keep in mind this was the same year the phone released. My mom was like okay I don't care about green then, just give me a black screen. Their response was "we're not allowed to put mismatching colors in repairs" and so they refused to do it.
    So all of the official repair channels were complete fucking shams. What'd she end up doing? Calling an independent repair shop who got it fixed that day (albeit with a black screen still, because he said he's never been capable of obtaining any panel other than black). But at least it was a done in a sensible timeline.
    I swear my story sounds so pro-independent repair that it almost sounds fake, but it's because these bogus "repair services" truly are as fucking terrible as it seems. Samsung literally just doesn't supply the parts like the colored screen panels because they want you to replace the entire device. It's fucking criminal.

    • @legionofanon
      @legionofanon 23 дні тому +14

      You're data may be lost means they replace whole assemblies, not only the broken part. I've gotten phone insurance that's through asurion and my experience so for had been great. Flat fee, they send you a replacement device and give you a week to send the broken one in, which for the most part is enough time to transfer and setup new device with the old, formatting and sending it back. I've replaced i think 5 $400+ phones for only a fee of $70 to $130 each time, and they were all cracked/broken screens

      You can bet the ranch that if they haven't already gathered and stored all your mother's data, they they sure did before they wiped it and if they already did they used all the data that was directly on her to compare with the the data they already had to check that their servers, software, spyware were working properly and weren't missing any tidbit of your mother's life.

    • @tigerwoods373
      @tigerwoods373 23 дні тому +3

      We know that's not fake and they make so many hoops to go through. It's so you just buy a new phone instead of repairing even if it's a thousand dollar phone. That's even better!
      I pay for the apple pro insurance which has been good for me besides being 10 bucks a month. But if something breaks I start a claim and they'll mail a phone out which arrives in a 2-3 days. I send my phone to them, if you get a phone before sending it you have to have about a 400 dollar charge pending until they get your phone.

    Louis, because of your tireless work for right to repair, I have become a full believer in the cause and I tell everyone who will listen about you and about right to repair.
    The United States was built on the idea that a man makes his own life for himself as long as he doesn't harm others to do so. Independent, self-starting, freedom-loving individuals made this country what it is, and garbage-fire corporations and greedy politicians are trying, step-by-step, to take those freedoms and rights away from us.
    Louis, you are the man with the plan. I worry for your personal safety. But in Texas, at least, you are safer than in most other places. Go get 'em, tiger.

      @TonyPombo 23 дні тому +24

      "The United States was built on the idea that a man makes his own life for himself as long as he doesn't harm others to do so". Uh, I don't know about that. Consider that considerations for slavery was built-in to USA Constitution.
      But, political ideology is different from economic ideology. The USA is based on a capitalist economic system, and in such a system, only profit matters. This is important: ONLY PROFIT MATTERS. Paying a living wage, providing a safe workplace, protecting the environment, even making a _good_ product, are all secondary to profit. Samsung, as a for-profit corporation, is doing the exactly the _right_ actions to maximize profits for the shareholders.
      If you don't like it, then we need to change to a different economic system where profits are not the _only_ measure of corporate success. Or use government legislation to force capitalist corporations to not pollute, pay living wages, honor warranties, and not take advantage of the public in general.
      Forcing corporations to "do right" is not typically something conservatives encourage. Conservatives would prefer no government involvement in the "free market". Texas is very conservative, so I don't think that:
      "But in Texas, at least, you are safer than in most other places."
      is accurate. You are more likely to see quality right to repair legislation pass in liberal states.

    Love ya Louis. Don’t ever let the fire die! Samsung is basically blacklisted from my home going forward based on the crap they keep pulling. I do have some of their stuff, but I’ll only use it until it dies permanently. Already had to fix a tv of theirs with vertical lines over essentially 4 chip resistors that failed, and they were offering folks a tiny % of what the tv was worth after something ridiculous like only 2 years. It was obviously a design flaw, but so many were forked over by Samsung customer service. Was able to fix mine myself for ~$20 and the time it took to disassemble and learn what to do, so I’ll use it until it no longer serves its purpose. But they won’t get my money again.

    • @TonyPombo
      @TonyPombo 23 дні тому +24

      The problem is that once you start paying attention, you'll start blacklisting more companies. I've blacklisted Sony, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Samsung, Carfax, CDW, Kroger, Walmart, Intuit, Adobe, and many, many others because they do their own version of anti-consumer shit. I'm running out of places to shop and products I can buy.

      Sometimes that can come from the dealer too if you bought from a dealer, as they will foreword your information to partners such as the satellite radio company. Not saying the car isn’t spying on your too, but that can come from multiple people selling your data.

    • @lyianx
      @lyianx 23 дні тому +12

      As @roeboat72 stated, this very likely came from the dealer. A car from 2011 wasn't smart enough to do the shit you're talking about. It would require it to (somehow) be able to command your phone to send that data off, which a bluetooth audio connection (by itself) cant do. Newer cars however *can* transmit data, either via the car app you install on your phone, or via its own SIM connection hidden in the car itself (reason i wont by a modern car. dont need it spying on me and sending my data unauthorized).

    Here's another goodie- Let's say you DO go through the Samsung repair partnership process. You can no longer service older Samsung devices, such as anything older than an S9+. If it's not supported with parts from their official vendors & labeled as an OEM part, along with their silly UPC scanner code, you can't use it. If you're caught using a non-OEM part under the program, even for non-supported devices (perfectly serviceable), you get a strike against you. 2-3 of those ousts you from the program, and blacklists you from any/all use of their resources, including promotional material directing their consumers to your business.
    ASP program will never be worth it. You could do in 15 minutes what that program dedicates 4 hours to.

      It's a real dilemma. I won't buy Apple, I don't like their corporate walled city policies, I loathe the fact that the devices are made by slave labor in China, so no Apple for me. Microsoft is almost as criminal, they're trying hard to have a walled city of their own, but so far I've been able to stifle them (O&OShutUp+ is a godsend.) Samsung is harder; I need a phone & tablet that work- and I've tried a lot of the Chinese knockoffs but most of them die ignominiously or don't do what I need- so I seem to be stuck with Samsung. So far I haven't had any problems that I can't fix myself, but I know it's just rolling the dice. I sure wish we had American manufacturers who'd honor the products they make, but that's long gone. Sigh.

Good luck identifying that, and in the case of Apple and their new serial number format, even if you could see the serial, it will tell you nothing.

    Thanks for the video Louis. I got a Samsung top load washing machine that uses a counter balance at the top which is filled with water. These are notorious for shaking like crazy (after the warranty expires) because the water slowly drains out over a couple year period, the shaking gets worse and worse, which makes the customer think it's just "worn out". If you drill two holes in the counterbalance ring (Under the splash guard) where the plugs were ultrasonically sealed and thread it, you can refill with water and plug with a couple screws wrapped in teflon tape. This appears to be an example of planned obsolescence. Just about every youtube video I've seen says it's the suspension rods. Nope, it's a .02 cent fix. Most people buy the suspension rods and when it doesn't fix it will throw away the washer and buy another when it still still shakes like crazy.

    Today only Samsung customer representative said its 350 INR + tax for visit and will be done by today. The technician calls next day that its 708 INR + tax. Total buffoonery on Samsungs part for having things in place. I hope Louis pins this so the people can be aware of this.

      @@TheHungrySlug- I think the person is trying to tell about the shady practices of Samsung wherein they told about visiting same day and charging less but their technician is visiting next day and charging double the original amount quoted by Samsung.

    Please tell me these agreements don't apply in EU...! These break the GDPR big time!

    • @0LoneTech

      That's far from the only laws they break. No doubt Samsung have a little "to the extent permitted by law" cop-out clause somewhere in the nonsense, which by the way is as illegal as shrink wrap "license agreement".

    I never bought Samsung for years because me and my family experienced failures of their phone screen just shy of 2 years every time.

      Every time I tried to give their smartphones a chance, they were always garbage, the problems that came up as I used them are so ridiculous that I haven't seen this on even the cheapest android noname devices,
      exynos is probably one of the worst soc, even with the latest snapdragon being frankly a failure, they are still better than this garbage with a mediocre modem, I don't remember any smartphone on mediatek and cheaper soc unisoc that handled signal reception as badly as exynos, and this doesn't just apply to cellular, bluetooth is also terrible and constantly falling off,
      how the hell do you even screw this up ?
      And these problems occur on their flagship devices,
      their budgets have such terrible performance and are so overpriced compared to Chinese smartphones,
      that they're only good for hammering nails,

      @@SL4RKI'm very pissed by how GPS works on modern phones. My 2012 LG needed 3 seconds to find signal again. On newer phones (especially mtk) it takes like 10 to 15. It was useful to just take it off the pocket, turn gps on, see where you are and turn it off put it back.

    You are doing good work by talking about this stuff. Too many people just don't care anymore. This starts with them locking down their hardware to make it difficult to repair or modify. Maybe if these companies are so worried about users damaging the products to change a battery, for example, they should make the batteries easier to change.

    Howdy Louis, I dont comment as much but, brother, you are my spirit animal. I, as yourself, like to repair my items, and i dont do it for money, I do it to increase the life of my item. You might have moved from NY, but you have a heart of a Texan. Caring for your neighbor and looking out for each other. Even if we are consumer, we all have to look out for each other on how BIG COMPANIES try to screw us and leave us without rights. Louis, my brother, keep up the good fight!
