@@TheBypasser oh so a couple thousand dollars is cheap for a laptop this garbage? Sure thing
@@Resunaa Like I said, it is not much for an _actually_ _expensive_ laptop, especially an industrial one. As for this shit though, I'd say even $100 is too much for a fully blackboxed low-spec low-reliability machine with a merely usable OS. TBH even for free they'd feel like useless weight ;)

I would pay good money to see a one hour live debate between you and the people at Apple that make these types of decisions.
I'd like to see Louis debate Tim Cook.
Now that's a good idea!
You know thats a suicide for apple right?
Don't pay for that. The people who make these decisions don't care about anything other than themselves. They don't need logic.
I would however pay good money for it to be recorded and spread across the net so that everyone can see that Apple doesn't care about it's customers, and that they will inevitably be bitch slapped.
@@JMPERager Your money would be wasted. For pretty much ever segment or price point where there is a competitor, buying apple has been the least logical decision for as long as I can remember, but they still get good sales. People haven't been making logical choices amidst compelling evidence against the quality of apple products for however long now and a debate of such will only add to the already existing pile of reasons not to buy apple that people so casually ignore.

If you think about it, this anti-repair model that Apple and Samsung has adopted really should be against not only consumer law, but also environmental law!

This is horrifically concerning, seriously horrifically concerning. I have no idea how Louis managed not to scream in frustration in this video.
Some even call it successful business practices. It just depends on if you're the winner or the loser, financially.
" how Louis managed not to scream" it was simple as he is not Apple user... and he is skilled guy so i dont think he will be out of job thanks to Apple.
It's not his computer. He just has to give the bad news to the guy that owns the T2 equipped macbook paperweight.
Louis can get extremely passive aggressive
Louis is just a monkey with a wrench doing his best to fix a broken industry. The user he has to break the news to will likely have a fucking meltdown.
It's this kind of anticonsumer shit that made me build a custom PC in the 1st place.
I’m a Mac user and I watch these videos. My friend is a “genius” at my Apple store and from what I gather talking to him, he tends to quickly dismiss any actual problems anyone has myself included.
I don't know either of you but I assume that's not his genuine demeanour. The Genius Bar are trained that way because it brings Apple more profit. I'm pretty certain that's the sole reason.
Your "friend" is a gEnioUs at tim cock's and the shareholders store.
Sorry, not sorry. Your friend should find a better job and stop simping for apple.
It's no surprise that people who willingly work in a place that calls itself a "genius bar" might come across as arrogant and dismissive of everyone who disagrees with them.
A friend of mine heard the water excuse. He insisted they open his laptop on site and show him. long and short, 2 supervisors and a legal threat later they honoured his warranty
always... ALWAYS ask for proof of what they are telling you. "show me" are the two most dreaded words of any warranty rep.
So sad, people who have no idea that Apple tactics are illegal, they just give up and buy a new one, any other company and they would say "I'm never buying an XYZ co computer again, my last one for after 3 years" but I'll forgive Apple because.........?
*"long and short, 2 supervisors and a legal threat later they honoured his warranty"*
I'm amazed at what sort of abuse Apple users will put up with. The company hates you. Have some self respect.
Thankfully here in the EU crApple don't just get to tell you "out of warranty" If it breaks within the first year(depending on the EU country) it's on them to prove that it's something you did.
What the US needs is actual, working, effective customer protection laws that bites hard.
@@Elldallan we do have laws for that it's the customers that arnt taking the necessary steps.

Alejandro Medina Consciousness as a Swearvice :-D
Apple has done so many unthinkable things by now and somehow still exists, this seriously wouldn't surprise me that much anymore.
*Yes, they will do this to you.*
I used to work at Apple. I used to treat repairs like I wasn't paying for them:
You rolled up with a battery at 85% health, I'd just say good enough for repair under warranty and just do it.
You wanted to replace your phone b/c of an issue? I'm not going to hassle you for the issue if you are under warranty. Let's just do it.
Your Mac stopped working? You are under warranty? Let's just replace it b/c that is the *right thing to do.* Get you back on your feet.
That was back in 2014.
Now they have basically said f**k the customer even with a warranty, including former employees. I had a 2012 Macbook Pro. I installed all the trimming on it myself b/c the additions were deemed "unauthorized." 16 GB of RAM, dual hard drives... the superdrive is probably somewhere.
Well, the computer had a board level defect. The three beeps saying RAM was the problem (it wasn't. I tested with a Thinkpad.) I had Applecare (standard). They replaced the board after I undid all my modifications. OK. Three months later. Same thing. Another four months same thing. They refused to replace the laptop that was in warranty until 2017 (2014-2017).
It was sent out more times after that, and I spent more time without the laptop than with. When the warranty finally ended, I basically used it as best as I could, wiped it, and went straight back to Lenovo Thinkpads full time.
I don't know why I ever left. I will never buy another Mac again. If I had been the Genius treating my issue, I would have pulled the white glove on for the customer and replaced the whole laptop with something new in store, instead of dragging me through the shit. :|
I have an Apple Watch (I got it for free, damn it) with AC+, and it also has an issue and Apple has sent it back saying ... we reset the software. *So did I.* At least it was free.
As a former Apple employee, I say run for the f**king hills. Don't keep buying this trash.
I mean the right thing to do would to fix the issues and not replace them, you gotta think on the environment mate but not even that they're capable of.
I'm a former employee and idk why people keep buying this products
@@Eduardo-vd8fo what would Greta do...
I do... Brand whores.
Here's why I have to laugh every time I hear about "liquid damage". Back in 1996, I gave $2400.00 for a Pentium 100-powered IBM Thinkpad. I used this to run a personalized gift business at the local flea market. The market booths were open in the back, which exposed the vendors to the weather. Once, before I learned to staple a tarp to the back of the booth, a thunderstorm suddenly came up and completely inundated the keyboard of that Thinkpad. I drained the water off, let it dry, and it worked perfectly for years afterward, which was when the hard drive finally died. So, if IBM could come up with a liquid-damage-resistant laptop back in 1996, why can't Apple do that now?
For the same reason they still think a Dual Core is good enough today. Their customers don't know any better.
My mom uses a dual-core laptop every day and it's more than enough power for her but this was a laptop that I got for less than $100 not over $1,000 carry on.
You don't need more than two cores if all you're doing is web browsing and word processing.
The answer is really simple, Apple wants every customer to buy a new Apple product every year for a ridiculous premium price.

Never liked Macs, and certainly won't start in light of this. I find it extremely ironic that Mac proponents claim that one of the selling points of Mac products is their simplicity, ease of use, streamlined design, all of which combines to give improved reliability.
A thing that breaks easily and is nigh impossible to repair cannot be considered reliable in my mind.
I got an Apple iPod a long time ago, and it never worked... I told the Apple employees in chicago where I took it to get it repaired when it quit. It Wasn't my fault. They told me I was a liar. I dropped apple after that! Apple internal memo is to push new products & not to fix any product!
This needs to be pinned
The problem with apple store diagnosing and repairing apple products is that genius and techs are not actually qualified to repair the products, nor do they actually know what they are doing. There is no such internal memo of pushing new devices, often times a repair option demonstrated by Louis is not possible because the people working don't have the know how to look for and fix those problems. They don't even have the tools. No thermal cameras. No electronic microscope. And barely any training. On top of that, repairs are covered under an additional warranty, so if any possibility of damage exists, Apple would be responsible for it. Big repair shops who provide warranties post repairs actually operate the same way that Apple does, like Geek Squad for example. I'm not saying that it makes it right, simply that the practice of employing under qualified employees who are trained to quote repairs that are not needed is an industry-wide practice, not only Apple's.
Every company that produces products does that, and ints not good for the enviroment.
Brato every company does that but apple is the worst of them seriously why can a company solder the ram and storage on the board?! Good luck. I've been warning people about getting sucked into Apple's proprietary Animal Farm since the mid 90's. Can't repair. Can't update. Can't use software unless Apple approves it which means non-competitive pricing on software*. Sheeple are so easily sucked into Apple's marketing that tells the ignorant that anything other than a mac or iPhone is somehow second class. They become cultists and won't give up the cult even after getting screwed over and over.
*Until recently when Adobe switched to subscription-based pricing, I could choose to buy Adobe PhotoShop (Mac or PC) for $400-$600 OR I could buy Serif Photo+ for $50 which was a nearly exact replica of PhotoShop. And the Serif product had countless 3rd party plug-ins available for free or very low cost. For a long time, getting PhotoShop quality functionality meant you HAD to buy a Mac. And Apple didn't allow any non-Adobe programs that were functionally competitive with PhotoShop. Apple drove Adobe sales and Adobe drove Apple sales. Two virtual monopolies screwing their customers in both ends at the same time.

At 6:19 Mr. Rossmann almost nails it "these devices are meant to be throwaway items." Like big screen TVs, personal computers have gone down in price to the point that if the cost of the repair exceeds half the cost of a new one, then it is more cost effective to throw the broken one away. They are throwaway items with the exception being Apple. Their products cost three times as much as the competition, so it was still worth trying to fix them in some cases. Apparently the profits weren't good enough when Apple permitted their customers to have their computers independently repaired so they are shutting it down. The same thing is happening with vehicles. The manufacturers are trying to use software to cut out independent auto repair and make you bring your vehicle to their costly shop.
@Jorn Navarre I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad USB Keyboard for the pointing stick, and when the micro USB port broke, I took it apart. I spent a long time looking for screws under rubber pads. The entire thing was held together with really, really, really strong adhesive. It ruined one of my pry tools.

Yeah, literally any dumbfuck could get a job at apple. They're not geniuses, they're not even experts. They're literally worse than newbies.
Let's be honest. No "Tech" at any big box retail store is a "Tech" by any stretch of the imagination. Actual Techs aren't going to work for damn near minimum wage. The people that work the genius bar, geek squad etc..are beginners or some random clown who installed a program and think they are techs. @@itzsupremedestroy4766 It might depend on the place but my main point stands. After Apple deliberately slowed down my once perfectly-working iPhone 6 with their IOS updates I decided that I'd never buy another Apple product ever again; their sneaky attempt to getting me to upgrade to a newer phone backfired. have had my z5 premium since release about 5 years or something. just had a new battery, charging port and headphone jack since i am a carpenter they got clogged up. works like brand new im hoping for another 5 years
Not to mention the 6 is the one that had the severe bending issue. Which then lead to severe touch or display issues.
Which apple denied and cloaked in the users for at least 2 years.... While also silently fixing the design flaw over the touch and display sensor....
And then when it was finally an issue it was the users fault for dropping it supposedly... But out of the kindness of their hearts you could get the repair half off...
Then a few more years later it's released that they knew all along before release it had those weak points... Shocking
But also after that's released... Guess who didn't face any legal issue?
It's not just upsetting because it's bs. That's fucking scary that a company can do that. And that everyone will even go as far to defend and support them. This world is insane and terrifying.

Incremental product scalability. To offer a product tailored to the tradeoffs that the customer chooses. It helps to reduce their R&D costs when they can roll out the next generation and making the fewest technological advancements since those are both finite and more expensive to implement. I did my part and haven't even considered purchasing an apple product. I have since day 1 avoided products that use proprietary anything where possible because I like having the ability to swap out parts for testing and if that fails I have the ability to take apart and repair when possible.
Plus I am a cheapskate and I would not even consider apple as their prices are too high. I try to purchase mid range Items to get the best bang for the buck and apple has always been too expensive for me to even consider.
Anyway, your mid range items are probably more powerful than an Apple computer anyway seeing as they kept some models the same for years without changing the price so you're likely better off anyway.
The average consumer is a moron. The average consumer is not well informed and the average consumer must have it because branding works. And you said it yourself, you're not even the target demographic. I mean that's not a poke but just that their consumer is glutton for a product with a pretty apple on the surface so they can look like they fit in among the other poor college students that extort their parents for such items. Serves em all right in my opinion.

And because of that Motorola they honk anything non Apple is shit, even though iPhone Xs have charging issues and are worse the s10s
So much this.. but with a caveat.. for 50 bucks you can get a lot of old Apple.
Newest one I own is a 2010, and with the OS becoming a jumbo version of iOS and all quarantined and cordoned off and cloud-enabled (absolute rubbish that is) it makes me glad that once Apple started their fuckwittery with the Mac OS X, I decided that keeping up with the Cook & Co. Rolling Roadshow of Neverending Costly Upgrades was not an option. Still rocking an ancient MacPro - now 11 years old and running Snow Leopard - a decade on.
So not going to get a new Apple computer after the ones I have finally croak, it'll be a Hackintosh with the last intel-capable OS they make. Once they switch to ARM chips and go back to the RISC platform, they'll be well on their way back to the days of the Performa.

@@sideoutside you could afford an apple stand!
That's all well and good but the real danger is other companies following suit. Already seen it from most others. Apples influence on other companies is quite dangerous and they like to copy as they see how successful it is.
I do like the cheapest iPad. 2y/o and still like new. 300€ when it was on sale. Can beat that. But every other product I agree with.

Gave up on high priced Apple a long time ago, switched to Linux, and never looked back.
Only big brains can use linux properly, that is the thing
@@wertyuser798 Linux is as easy to use as Apple, and it works. Try it. Runs on most anything.
@@marlinlenchanteur4260 K. I like Linux, I've installed it many times since 1995 (starting with Red Hat). One day I might even install it forever on one of my systems. ;)
Did the moisture detection things change color, or did Apple just flat out lie about the liquid damage?
Edit: I know they're unreliable, I was only curious if that was Apple's justification for the claim of liquid damage or if they were just completely making things up to avoid honoring the warranty
In a few older videos Lewis talks about and I think he demonstrates somewhere that the stickers are not a reliable way of showing that a machine came into contact with liquid, and that slight air humidity turns them red
probably lied...
They looked white to me, but I didn't look super carefully.
It was blue. So it didnt detect ANY water or humidity.

This is what I love about my dell precision 7510 1. Compared to apples crap warranty I get a 3 year warranty that includes coverage for liquid damage even though it has a spill proof keyboard. 2. I can put my own SSD in it, and I can service it myself without voiding the warranty.
Dell mailed me a new battery for my 5510 under a recall programme. THEY contacted me!!!
They also offered to send a Dell tech over if I thought I needed one.
Bosstown Dynamics Exactly! Most hifi brands don’t even do that anymore.
TY Louis, I just cancelled our 1.8M Mac Book order.
Had a PC tech tell me the same thing on a laptop and I asked him to show me when it was all put together. He kept telling me he couldnt so I go the manager and i took it apart and asked the guy to show me the water damage. He couldnt. So i put the laptop back together and took the laptop and said I wasnt paying for a scamming PC shop that couldn't even fix the machine. Lol. I got it fixed and it was just a shorted chip
The easiest problems to solve are the ones that you plan to make it happen.
Think different.
#T2Gate coming in a few months
Should already be here
You mean a very small number...
Small claims court for a replacement. If its under warranty with NO water damage - this video could be testimony - you will win.
Aaaaaactualy, the jury might side with Apple on this one, since there was enough of Apple's history to liable the customer for continuing to buy Apple's products.
I think Luis was right. As a customer, you need to hold Apple accountable.
@@jviper2004 There is no jury in small claim courts
@@amciaapple1654 oops....uh....right. I meant the judge
Jason Bracey - in other words youre giving legal advice without the slightest idea how the legal process works. Just like Hal King is, you cannot file a Small Claims court case when the defendant resides outside the UK.
one way or another, this is the kind of situation that is just begging for a test in court. doesn't take a lawyer to know that. in fact, there's probably a way to pass this off as a violation of the own/repair your own device act. apple making it basically, impossible to repair these devices, and engineering them to fail...
additionally, some of their claims or what their techs are paid to say, are slander/libel...
there are tons of potential lawsuits in almost everything they've done. and for better or for worse, with all these environmentalists and similar complaining about pollution/waste, this is more of a shithole for apple to find themselves in. let's just hope they get theirs soon. In fact, every single one of the major tech firms does something shady/irresponsible. They need to be held accountable. Still, Crapple is one of the worst. I never got into the hype, was raised on Windows, and learned at a certain point how evil apple is [and continue to learn]. Now hoping that Linux and all truly become a viable alternative, because windows is getting bad, too. I already broke-up with firefox, and I'm quite happy with palemoon. Meanwhile, Mozilla continues to destroy everything that made their browser great, under the guise of "performance" and "security". But, I'm kinda going off on a tangent...lol
The more I see of this channel, the more annoyed I get at Apple and its users/supporters, especially those close to me. I already have to help with a lot of technical shit they don't understand, or when something breaks [it happens often, M$/HP make some terrible software, and HP definitely has some bad hardware... ] . Figuring-out how to do some things on an i is a pain in the ass, sometimes. Sometimes, it just can't be done. And if something just breaks, there's nothing I can do. And yet, it is ME taking the blame because that app/feature worked fine before i touched it last...
The worse my mom has had fixed on her phone so far, is the battery being replaced... but somewhat, i'm waiting for something fatal, or at least, apple's version, which is when any single important thing fails. she probably won't trust a third party, [in fact, i'm positive of this, based on her flawed sense of brand loyalty] and i can attest that i heard the techs basically boasting to other customers about how the third party shops often make things worse. the things i wanted to say/do...
i want nothing more than to see that company slapped so hard with fines/lawsuits/penalties and government-mandated price-locks [so they can't play trickle-down to pass the losses] that the ONLY way they will avoid complete bankruptcy and permanent shutdown, is to fix their act. [oh, and severe criminal charges for their executives and other higher-ups. investors, even, if it turns-out they're also making the company behave so completely detached from ANY form of ethics/morality]. i don't give a shit if that makes me sound like a damn communist... these damn corporations play communism internally and sell unregulated capitalism to everyone else. maybe the shock of seeing the in-punitive apple brought to their knees will teach the others to quit being self-righteous greedy, power-hungry assholes.
I stopped being an Apple customer when I had the misfortune to have three different Apple products fail on me in rapid succession back in 2011; an iPhone, an iMac, and a Cinema Display. The iPhone had a busted headphone jack. The iMac had some sort of "motherboard" issue, according to the Apple Genius who looked at it (and now I'm wondering if that was indeed true). Fortunately, I was able to "fix" the Cinema Display, as it only had a defective power supply. Anyways, I've since switched over to Windows and Android, and have never been happier.

Yes, but he's saying the truth.
Used to be an apple fanboy back in the day. I have completely stopped using apple in my personal life. The last straw was when a friends computer that was just a month out of its year warranty had the ram go bad. Apple said it was a $500 fix. FOR BAD RAM! Their love of soldering everything to the board is insane. No more money from me.
Can't get my data? Forced to buy a new machine? Sounds like a great time to get anything other than apple.
Putting your data at extreme risk so you have to pay more for icloud backup, what a plan
but your data is uploaded to their site....you must buy another one to access it
Small claims court , just agree to testify for the customer. You will still come out ahead. Judge would no doubt rule in the customer's favour.
LOL, nope. Apple has got tons of cash in the judge's pockets. Look what has happened when they sued Samsung and won over the shape of a phone which is a rectangle.

Long story short, get a Windows. If you MUST get a Mac, have someone build you a hackintosh. Never buy Apple. I haven’t since the first I got. This’ll be my last iPhone when it craps out. Im over their shit.
It's ironic that the board kind of looks like handcuffs 😬
Or oversized hipster glasses
Fitting... As Apple seems to think they have their customers over a barrel. Sad fact is, they do... People keep buying Apple, like it's some kind of status symbol, and I'll agree, anyone with the money to throw at multiple Apple products once they break clearly has far more disposable income than I. Be smart people, spend your money on the better product, not the one with the best logo...
Apple fanboy logic: "You're at fault for not getting AppleCare!!!"
I wrote off Macs as being worth consideration when they started soldering in the ram to the board. They've only gotten worse since then.. I don't think they'll ever make another Mac I actually want to buy.
I might have considered buying the new cheese grater Mac Pro for about 30 grand....1-2 years ago. Because DDR5 is just around the corner, and you're charging car prices for a "going to be outdated immediately"-computer.

The first word I ever used to describe Apple is "Proprietary". I used it as a dirty word to compare Apple features to PC features when I sold electronics (computers, music and media players, etc). I saw this crap coming 2 decades ago when the battle between Zune and iPod happened. Though I can not argue the benefits that iPod had on portable media, I sure as hell didn't support them then. How dare you sell me hardware and music and tell me I don't own it the moment I close my wallet.
