I have only had 2 professional stylists who could actually cut layers properly. Having a license doesn’t necessarily mean they can cut hair so thank you for sharing this information. I get so tired of spending a LOT of money on crappy haircuts & ending up having to fix it at home.
oh this is so true which is why I am now doing my own grey roots and my own haircuts. Luckily we live in a very forgiving "Anything Goes" era, where people deliberately cut asymmetry and shaggy, etc. I have almost never had anyone cut my neck hair the way I wanted so this is why I finally decided. Layers I am really scared of so I am going about that a few at a time. Also I cut my hair every few days here and there to make it better and better. Olaplex system really helps to keep my lavender grey hair looking healthy and I am always surprised to get compliments all the time from all kinds of surprising varieties of people.
Truly, the license is 90% about not spreading infectious disease among humans. There is a practical method segment to it but it’s really outdated (speaking to MA state.) it’s mainly for the purposes of determining motor functions. The only way to know the modernness of hairdresser technique other than trial is to know where they had formal training. Not all schools are created equal.
The town in which I live I fear allowing anyone to touch my hair. I will attempt this as I cut my husband's hair and he thinks I have become better than any barber around here...wish me the best!!
Truest thing ever written. I have had about three good hair cuts in my life. Sometimes the stylists themselves can't replicate what they did. Rest were meh to awful. May as well screw it up myself than pay someone else to screw it up.
I've been cutting my own hair most of my life...and often haphazardly. I just followed this video and got exactly the layered cut that I've been trying to achieve for years. Now I know how to do it right. Thank you so much.
@ann275 I've done the same. I don't know if I'll follow this video; I have my own technique that's much easier but after reading your nice, happy comment, perhaps I will give it a go one day. It's worth a try :) Thank you, Ann :)
I work very long hours with almost no time off. My late husband used to cut my hair for me and I miss it so much. I've struggled with it recently. This tutorial is fabulous and I thank you for taking the time to show us (however reluctantly, lol) how to cut our own hair at home. You're awesome! Bless
Thank you for this. My teen daughter has extreme social anxiety and can’t go to the salon. I appreciate your tutorials. They are easy to follow and I feel confident I can give her a haircut like this!!
I have to admit that I am a retired hairdresser and I happened to find this guy by accident , I ordered a small bottle of the 25 spray and I can't tell you how amazed I was that it worked so good !!!! It's the best stuff I have EVER used on my hair ( and believe me I've tried them all ) I eventually ordered a large bottle of 25 and use it every single day !!!! Thank you Salon Guy !!!!!
His thinking on a loop for 30mins: Dear God just dont cant believe I am enabling these morons i regret every second of this cutting hair requires skills clueless idiots God I love money oh #@% IT
@@Tanya-et3tk EXACTLY 😁👏🏼👏🏼! I'd LOVE to have a pro do it, and it be followed by me sipping a mimosa while they put little balayage foils in my hair, but DIY is what my wallet can afford right now 🥴🙃🤌🏻
This guy deserves a raise. I don’t know what it is with his tutorials but his explanation on why how and why to do it, is sooooo much easier to learn and follow from. Long time Brando fan but right away this guy demonstrated an easier way for someone like me to learn better, thank you! I even love the pony tail cut tutorial on how to blend choppy cut too!
I’ve been cutting my own hair since I was 14, I’m 61 now, I also cut my husband’s hair, I’ve been cutting many other people’s hair for years, I just couldn’t afford to go to school for it! I just like watching your videos and others to get tips and new ways to do cuts or new hairstyles. Thank you for the videos and tips! 😊
I’ve been cutting my own hair since 14, I cut my partners hair and I’m 61, your and my story is exactly the same. I didn’t have chance to go learn it either, I’m glad I’m not the only one, people think I’m mad but I’m not alone now lol !
@@victoriapereira8651 yes, I think people think it's weird or pathetic or that we're too cheap for doing our own hair, but they're just snobs and the truly pathetic ones for spending so much on something they could do themsleves. Unless I actually tell people, you wouldn't even know that I cut my and my 3 adult daughters' hair at home. We look like everyone else out there, in many cases even better.
I had my hair cut by a professional three times in the past 10-plus years. Two of those times my daughter in law cut it. I appreciate your video because it explains how to cut it yourself. I have always watched stylists showing different types of hair styles on UA-cam. I just cut it yesterday and can't wait for it to grow so I can apply the tips and suggestions you showed in the video. I have gotten pretty good at cutting my hair and I dye it now too. I started changing the color every once in awhile and now I streak it in blue, aqua, purple and violet. I get a lot of compliments on it. I am now subscribed to your page and look forward to hearing more. Thanks for this awesome video. 😊❤
I’ve watched your video a couple of times and decided to follow it to cut my hair this morning. I watched a segment, then stopped the video and cut. Then, I watched another segment and did the same thing until I was finished. It took me two hours. I washed my hair and the cut looks pretty good. I have curly hair so that makes it somewhat forgiving, but I felt like you really presented this well and it helped me a lot. Thank you.
Completely understand we should go to a professional but with Covid and some sickness . I SO appreciate you doing this fir in between!!!!! Thank you thank you!!!!!! You’re a good person!!
Well, I'm going to have to attempt this, because I live in a town with no hairdressers less than 2 hours away and with Covid I'm certainly not traveling 2 hours for a haircut so that I have a lovely looking corpse. My mantra "It's only hair. It'll grow back if I really screw it up!" Since I have a ton of hair (literally every hairdresser has said, "I had no idea you had so much hair ") mistakes are par for the course. I'm a jewelry maker, and pretty dexterous, so I really can't do worse than that one lady at supercuts who left me looking butch when I showed her a picture of Jennifer Aniston's hair and said "Do that". Needless to say, she didn't even come close. So, here goes nothing!
youre doing a great service for so many women . some dont have transportation many cant afford a extra for themselves. some have lots of kids. maybe a couple babies and no one to watch them. youve done a good thing here its very kind of you. i
I just cut layers in my hair following this tutorial. Thank you so much for saving me a trip to the salon. The best part is that it made my curls more bouncy! I love it! I’ve been on a no heat, hair restoration journey ever since my hair decided that it wanted to be curly after I had to have a hysterectomy so this helped my hair look sooo much better! THANK YOU!!! 🙂
Me too!! I even went to diva curl stylist and I had a chopped mess!! I've found 2 people that can my hair and one is 100 miles away and the other is $50 plus tip. My hair grows so fast and I had learned just from my friend cutting it (the 100 mile away friend lol) all these years how to put some layers in. Layers are so essential for curly hair...the more the better!!! Plus there is a larger margin of error w cutting curly hair haha...the chopper the better!
My hair was trashed after trimming it myself for so long. Started watching videos on UA-cam and ran across this. I watch this 45 minutes before I had to leave for work. You explained everything and it was so easy. I have very fine hair and then. I did a fast five minute job on it and it turned out great! I am going to watch the video again and do a little bit more thorough job. Wish I could find a hairstylist half as good as you!

This is the third time im coming back to this video to use as a reference. My hair comes out great every time. Its hard for me to leave the house so being able to do this myself is really great. My hair is very thick and wavy. I always know its time for a trim when my hair starts getting flat. These techniques help bring out the waves. I use your bang tutorial too and ive gotten a lot of compliments. Thank you!
@Maddie S - I found Steven's channel in Fall 2018, after ANOTHER horrible haircut... I have also a lot of wavy, heavy hair. I need a symmetric layered cut, otherwise it is never looking good. I am now 4 1/2 years in to cutting my own hair after Steven's various videos and instructions about (symmetric) layered haircuts. Sometimes pretty short, sometimes a bit longer, and I can proudly say that I have never gotten so many compliments from women AND men about my "absolutely gorgeous" haircut/s. And questions who cuts my hair, they want to go there too. LOL. I am using my big camera tripod, where I clamp a mirror on. I look into it, and I see the back of my head in the big bathroom mirror. Have some clips and a good haircutting scissors. Takes me between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on how long I did not cut, on average I cut every 2 months. And once in a while I watch again some of my fave Steven's videos which taught me so much.
I’m just tired of paying $100’s of dollars for my cuts and hate them! I show pics, I explain what I’m looking for and walk away feeling like they just did what they wanted to and that was that! Called one stylist back after 2 days and told her I still wasn’t happy, all she said was I don’t do refunds!
Great! But I'm curious: do you have thin or thick hair? I think thick hair is much riskier, so I'm wondering if someone with thick hair actually managed this!

@@streetofdreams4538 it really depends on your patience and tolerance for holding your arms above your head for long periods. My hair isnt super thick but i normally keep it long, and long hair is hard enough to trim in layers without the added stress of having super thick hair.
I can’t believe it I just cut layers into my own, elbow short hair following your video and it looks awesome! I was a little intimidated by all the steps, most of them made no sense to me at first but you’ve explained them in a way that I understood perfectly and it made my technique much better as a result! I’m so happy to have followed this video, you gave me confidence throughout the whole thing. Thank you so, so much !
This man is really good thank you Mr Barber I'm going to try layers but every time I try it doesn't come out right good luck to me and good luck to him also Gladys from Elizabeth New Jersey
As a teenager we used to literally throw our head forward, put our hair in a ponytail top and center and cut about 4” off. Take the ponytail out, throw our head upright and whall...la - layers. I told my hairdresser niece about that and she had a horrified look on her face - very similar to the mannequin. True 😂🤪🤣
You can still find it online as how to cut a shag haircut or how to give yourself a gypsy cut...I remember, too and frankly am rather desperate enough to give it a try...
I've seen the ponytail method on UA-cam, but the people doing it always seem to have thin to medium-thick hair, but never very thick hair. Did any of you teenagers doing this happen to have thick hair?
@@streetofdreams4538 what's gonna happen is you will probably end up with very marked layers that may make your hair appear thicker on top than the bottom, it may puff up adding a lot of volume to your head. It also depends on your hair texture. If you're hair is wavy to curly, you will probably end up with an 80s shag. If it is straight, the cut will probably be more noticable if there are uneven parts, you will look like a chopped Barbie doll.
After years of getting my hair cut at salons and watching the entire process, I decided (4 years ago) to try to DIY it. Yes, it takes me much longer but I've gotten faster and my hair looks great! I've even received compliments!!!!
@@kittydaniels3883 Yeah, but have you seen the way he's pulling her hair up on the thumbnail? My eyebrows would be through the ceiling if he did that to me .... instant facelift 😂😂😂😂😂
Great demonstration, thank you! I've been cutting my own hair for many, many years exactly the way you just demonstrated. It took many tries to get the layered look just right for my curly hair. I found that many professionals don't understand how curly hair doesn't look the same as long hair for the same haircut.
The only way I can tame my super wavy hair is to cut the points in. It's just so thick and there is so much of it. Every time I 'treat' myself to a salon I get scalped :(
Thanks for this tutorial! My mother doesn’t want to go to the hair dresser and she struggles to cut her own hair, so I am going to cut her hair for the first time in my life, and this is excellent tutorial, hope I don’t mess things up! D:
Tip - I bought a straightening brush from Amazon (it's like a pair of tongs with brushes at the ends to hold the hair taught while blow drying) I use these as kind of fingers to grip the right bit for cutting and can pull it round to an easier position to cut. Makes cutting the back of my head much easier.
Hi, I love the sound of this .... could you share the brand or a link to Amazon? I went there and the only tong things I could find were flat irons, no brush attached to it, or just plain electrified brush thingies???
What can I say, this helps me cut my own hair, without having any prior experience. Layering the back is a bit hard, my hair is rather wavy, but the end result is better than many haircuts I have had in the past. Thank you for sharing!! 💕
You are awesome!! I just had a bad haircut from a so-called salon professional & I felt like crying! Followed your method & voila it looks a 100 times better than that "professional" gave me. Money wasted but hair saved!
Love your tutorials. Have always hated going to the salon as they never seem to cut my hair how I want them to. Now my hair looks exactly how I want thanks to you!....
So loving and generous of you to help others. You can see where there are actually many, many reasons why people cannot get a professional cut. I miss them personally but my finances as a senior don't allow for a professional cut. Thank you so much for sharing your time, talent and energy to helpout.
When I layer my own hair, it’s 1 cut straight across. It’s all in the angle you hold the hair. I feel people are doing their own hair because salon prices are out the roof.
Not only the cost, but every carefully interviewed stylist at the carefully researched salon, listened very earnestly and intently to what I said I wanted, and then proceeded to give one of the standard cuts from her repertoire. I'm soooo done with professional salons.
They keep getting worse and worse. Part of the reason is they have to now wash the chairs because of COVID after each person. You must pay for every single thing that is used on your hair or anything to do with you So cleaning the chair and all detergents and lotions or styling gels etc you will be charged heavily. People who are capable of wearing a straight cut along the bottom of their hair ( especially is long) will just do it at home. They will not need to frame their face or try to layer. So it is easy to let it just hang straight and cut. Some can wear that style very nicely, some cannot. Those who can are very lucky with prices high and COVID etc. They have now learned to do it for themselves and others and save money I guess?
I absolutely detest having my hair cut in the hairdressers. I hate the apprentice washing my hair and missing bits, hate staring at myself in the mirror and the worst part is making small talk with the stylist. I have learned to do my own for these reasons.
@@tracik1277 I hate paying $50+ to get a haircut that I'm not happy with. If I'm going to be unhappy with it, I'd rather do it myself and pay $0. I have been cutting my own hair for 7 years, and in that time I've gotten one haircut at a salon, which I got because I forgot why I stopped going.
I had a layered bob that looked like the old Dutch man on Quaker Oaks cereal. I even took pictures of my hair when I had a good hairdresser (she left and they would not say where). They couldn't even get it right with my own pictures. I got tired of trying to get a simple French Bob and have been cutting my hair now for now. It wound up really short but cute. I got compliments on my hair cut. I decided to grow it to one length and for the last six months have been letting it grow, cutting out the layers. This was useful because I forgot how to cut the sides even and let them go. Pulling my hair straight up, well I could see the problem why it wouldn't lay right. You also helped me to soften the front so it didn't have that hard line look. I'm happy with my cut today. Thanks you for taking the time to help us out here in Covid-19 land.
I have been cutting my own hair and dying it for 40 years now and must say I've never been happier with my creations 👌🤗👌 I know this gentlemen is trying desperately to convince you that you should go to a hair stylist but let me say that you can do it yourself!!! It isn't as difficult that he is saying it is so all you need to work on is self confidence that you CAN!
Thankyou for sharing this home tutorial I followed your instructions today (long graduation) and I am very pleased with the end result. I have watched many other UA-cam hair tutorials, and I have found your channel to be the best, your instructions are clear. Thankyou so much.
Thanks for your videos Stephen. I attended cosmetology college many years ago but dropped out to pursue my real calling. I began cutting my hair 20 yrs ago when I got tired of paying for a cut and then having to 'fix' it when I got home. Your videos pick up where my early training left off! When co-workers find out I cut my own hair they are surprised.
@vgardner1688 All they know how to do these days is a basic face frame when you ask for layers! I've since learned that when students enter cosmetology school, there is basically no emphasis on hair cutting! It's all OHSA, state health code, coloring, and anatomy stuff. They have to take it upon themselves to get the state of the art haircutting skills!
Thank You! I especially appreciated how you separated the hair into sections and explained why it needed to be done that way. Sometimes people tell us 'what' to do but without the "why". Knowing that helps me want to take the time to do it as explained so it actually comes out correctly. Realizing the angle of the scissors makes such a difference was also VERY helpful. Now, I need to watch your videos about blow drying hair. Nicely done!
I appreciate your direct, basic approach. Recent new stylist professes her talent as “rocket science”. She had no idea that is my profession! Will seek another stylist with your approach. Many thanks.
Hair cutting is a craft, it takes a lot of patience, practice, and dedication to perfect. I was a hairstylist years ago, and cutting hair was my favourite of the trade.
Thank you! My daughter is a licensed stylist and hates when I cut my own hair. She lives 4 hours away and I get a little impatient in between visits and this time with your directions I believe she won't be quite as upset. My hair looks good and I personally enjoy your jokes. I am going to refer her to your site as a professional there are always this vs we can learn from our peers. Again, thank you.
I cut my own hair all the time, but always made mistakes. I'm not a hairstylist. This tutorial gave me perfect layers and I'm psyched!!! Now I can perfect my haircuts!!! Thank you!!!
Phenomenal job cutting and teaching! Great haircut! Been cutting my own hair in layers for years to save money and time. I just pull it in a ponytail and cut straight across with zigzag scissors and voila. Your technique will help jazz up my haircut for special occasions. I will have to take more time, but it will be worth it! Thank you!
You are an excellent teacher! I haven't been a professional stylist in over 30 years. I am now having to use my old skills to cut my hair at home as I am high risk. I've been wanting to cut some shorter layers so I am really thankful for your video! I think your jokes are funny! My husband is bald & Beautiful! God bless you! Stay safe! 🙏🏻✝️🙋🏼♀️😊
I worked as an esthetician in a spa for 8 years. I use to cut my own layers for years. I would have the cosmetologists check it after I would cut it and they were blown away at how good I was at doing myself. I have all one length blunt cut now and haven’t had layers in years. This is a great video.
Thank you so much. I also cut my own hair and this is the haircut I give myself. Not easy to cut one's own hair. I myself am a hairdresser. Your instructions are right on point! I love your tutorials.
Thank you for fixing my head. I had followed a tutorial by someone else and my hair looked horrible. You gave such clear guidance that I was able to figure out how to repair it without shaving it all off.
Thanks Salon Guy! This actually helped me go from a disaster to compliments. From a gal who pulls no punches. I am no whiz but carefully following along “oh what a relief it is!”. Recommend.
Oh my word! This is my best hair cut ever! I’m older with thin salt and pepper hair and it’s slightly curly. I tend to hate how other people cut it. Following you I’ve gotten a perfect hair cut. Thanks!
Using your video, my husband cut my hair today, my first haircut in a year. It looks great! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and knowledge during these difficult times. 💗
Thank you! Excellent tutorial for those of us who would very willingly pay big bucks for a flattering style but find it harder and harder to find a stylist with your expertise.
I often wish I could take my hair off especially at night. I have enough hair for 3 so it gets a bit much at times. It'd be nice to take my eyes out and let them have a soak in some cool cucumber water too.
It was quite clear from your face and your tone that you’d *really* rather we not cut our own hair, and yet you went ahead and made a video for us showing us how to do it the right way anyway. That was really cool of you. Thanks for the effort, and for showing us how to do it the *right* way. I just watched a dozen “unicorn” cuts and it totally wasn’t what I was looking for; I wanna cut my hair right. (I live in New York City, where I can’t afford a haircut, nor can I afford COVID. 😕) I appreciate what you’ve done, so thanks very much! 💋
This was EXTREMELY HELPFUL thank you for showing me how to do layers at home. The more tutorials I take would make me a better hairdresser. I am a visual person and enjoy watching you and your training. I am a trained salon assistant completing my pre apprenticeship course and itching to start my Certificate 3 Hairdressing at TAFE NSW
Thank you very much for sharing your professional knowledge with us. It took me over an hour to cut my daughter's hair by your instructions, and the result is just fantastic! This is our third time and it's an excellent experience for both of us- sending our gratitude!
I really appreciate your technic for keeping your hair in balance. You have done a wonderful job of explaining how to layer hair and I particularly like how you reaffirm not to cut the length of your hair. Thank you so much for sharing how to properly layer hair! I really appreciate you!!
This was TREMENDOUSLY helpful. I actually used this to add layers to a ball jointed doll wig I made and will save for the others. This was easy to follow and really appreciate the frank talk. Thank you!!!
This is super helpful!! I cannot find the time with work and caretaking family members to care for myself. I am 50 years old and have self cut before in an emergency, but this gives all the helpful tricks. Thank You!!
i’ve been obsessed with all your videos even the ones that don’t pertain to female hair. it’s very relaxing to come to this channel and see how much you love your craft ❤️
Thank you! I’ve been doing this for 15 years, and this is confirmation I’ve been doing it right. The only thing different is that I just grab it and cut, I don’t section it off and take my time. Lots of practice behind me, though. Your video was the best I’ve seen!
Thank you for posting this video. I've always been someone who has gone between cutting my own hair at home and going to a professional. There's more to going to a salon than just a haircut. Having a great customer relationship with a stylist is fun too.
Using this tutorial for the second time and honestly the best tutorial I've watched. I've honestly watched hours and hours and none have made it so simple! Loved the result far more than any paid cut I've ever had, kinda ticked I wasn't given this all the times I asked for it and didn't receive it lol. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Love your down-to-earth approach that doesn't make us feel like cutting our hair at home is utterly ridiculous and that we will never manage a satisfactory result! I added your sweep bang tutorial to this one and just simply love it...I won't be changing anything for quite some time!
This was extremely helpful. I have cut my own hair for many years. It’s done in layers also I followed your video and did a pretty good job. I was a professional hairstylist many years ago. But had to leave due to medical issue. I appreciate all your tutorials. Thanks 😘
Thank you sooooo much for this tutorial! I cut my hair straight after watching this video! I kept referring to this video step by step as I was cutting my hair, hoping for the best. The result? I love it! I recently invested in an inexpensive hair dressing set. It has a pair of cutting shears, thinning shears, 2 hairclips & a hair dressing comb. Thanks again!
Great demo! I used to be a hair stylist and this is exactly how I would cut this style. My own hair is also this style, and I gotta tell you ladies, even as a stylist, its not an easy thing to cut your own hair. Its difficult to get at it!! Rather like painting your own nails, one side is always easier than the other.😂Worth giving it a go though, its very well explained.
Thank you, Salon Guy!!!! I used your tutorial to cut layers in my own hair tonight. I am thrilled with the results! You are a great instructor. Keep it coming! Wish I could send you photos.
Dang. This tutorial is so awesome. I’ve tried some seemingly easier, gimmicky layer cuts, but this is the way it’s done. And I think I can do it! After a year of COVID and bad DIY cuts, my hair is in pretty bad shape and this is just what I need to get it back into shape. Thank you!
Ohh myyy gooood! 😍 I just gave myself a beautiful metamorph! It took me over 2 hours (my hair length is similar to your model), one banana and shoulders pain but it was absolutely worth it!!! 😍 I'm in love! Thank you so much 🤩
Best video I've seen on doing layers!! I actually watched as someone else's video and I messed up my hair, it was very choppy. But I watched yours and followed it and omg it saved my hair!!!
This video is great. I've watched a couple this week as I prepare to cut my fiance's hair but this is easily the best because you show the entire cut step by step. I know it's a stopgap until we can get back to a salon eventually but I appreciate the guide. She has already cut my hair three times already since March. Hopefully I won't screw hers up too much.
Talk about disasters...I've had so many at the hairdressers. I'd love to know what your philosophy is on thinning thick hair. So many hairdressers have been too scissor-happy and ended up chopping into my hair so much with thinning scissors, leaving unsightly gaps and unintentional shorter sections. Traumatising..
This is why I actually started cutting my own hair, I felt like I couldn't trust people, it was one too many hack jobs or getting overly excited with the thinning shears. Just that word makes me cringe now - Even with photos they would always do something to change it to what they thought looked better. I'm sorry, I'm not paying that much money to walk around feeling badly and self conscious about my looks for the next 2-3mths
This is why I looked up this video. The woman who cut my hair SHREDDED my hair to thin it. Which is fine, if it's hidden underneath, but she did it on the top layer. My hair looks frayed and unhealthy.
Thank you for this tutorial. I did just as you said and gave myself a beautiful haircut that my husband loved. Thank you as I am a visual learner and your instruction was fabulous. Thank you
Yes, do my own hair. Had a hair cut and color in the fall $270 CAD and now in March $230 CAD. I can't do this every few months and I honestly (Aspergers - Very much dislike the Salon experience, the brushing and blow drying hurts, find the shampooing very uncomfortable and concerned about soap in the face and eyes) So this is great I can follow directions. Thank you thank you thank you.) I love your videos. I bought pro scissors.
Love this tutorial. I have very dense, coarse, long and wavy hair. I just did this at home to take some weight off of my hair and it looks great. I went for shorter layer and my curls look healthier now. Thanks a ton!
Thank you so much for teaching so that amateurs can understand and confidently follow. I have always cut my own hair from teenage and have learned by trial and error. After your tutorials I know there'll be less "error". Love your talking one through all the way, and love your sincere presentation with bits of humour coming through. Please continue!
Great tutorial going to try it out. Since $ does not go as far as it did several years ago, additional funds for a stylist are almost last in the list. I love my layered hair but after 15 months, it's more of a shaggy dog than a style. This video gives me hope! Thank you.
Stephen, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this video. I’ve watched hours of your videos, and this one came by at the perfect time. Brilliant 💜❤️💚
This video was helpful. I already do a lot of these tips when cutting just the length of my hair (no layers). I will need to watch it a couple more times before I attempt to cut layers into my hair.
I just cut my own hair exactly as you showed and it turned out WONDERFUL!!! I'm 71 now, have a horrible tremor, can't hold my right arm far back - and STILL - it looks great! Yes, I can still see - lol Thanks for the great video! Happy New Year!!!
I’m actually having my mom cut it rn and I’m using her UA-cam account while saying this 😀 I’ll update! Update! We did it short because my hair was short before we cut it and I love it!

Truest thing ever written. I have had about three good hair cuts in my life. Sometimes the stylists themselves can't replicate what they did. Rest were meh to awful. May as well screw it up myself than pay someone else to screw it up.
AMEN! I do some snipping when I get home too. Extremely tired of spending BIG bucks and then spending my time!

Wonderful tutorial! I will use it on myself soon. Thank you!

I was going to say the same. What a freaked out look this mannequin has!

I've been cutting my own hair most of my life...and often haphazardly. I just followed this video and got exactly the layered cut that I've been trying to achieve for years. Now I know how to do it right. Thank you so much.
Hello ! Just wanted you to know that your comments are almost identical to mine. Deanna Derryberry.

Bless

Thank you.
Did you do it on combed out curly hair or on dry curls?
Did you do it on combed out wet hair or on dry curls?

Completely understand we should go to a professional but with Covid and some sickness . I SO appreciate you doing this fir in between!!!!! Thank you thank you!!!!!! You’re a good person!!
Yes, EXACTLY 💯
@@lorirepp4280 How did it turn out?

Hmmm. Estrogen loss? My hair changes from straight to wavy then curly every so many years. Hormonal changes...
My hair was trashed after trimming it myself for so long. Started watching videos on UA-cam and ran across this. I watch this 45 minutes before I had to leave for work. You explained everything and it was so easy. I have very fine hair and then. I did a fast five minute job on it and it turned out great!

@@streetofdreams4538 it really depends on your patience and tolerance for holding your arms above your head for long periods. My hair isnt super thick but i normally keep it long, and long hair is hard enough to trim in layers without the added stress of having super thick hair.

True 😂🤪🤣
“Voila,” it’s French. Not wall...la. 😂😂
@@laurenleclair5181 doesnt matter. we got it :) good to know though :D

Been trimming and styling my own hair for 2 years now. It can be done. My hair is very long, and what @TheSalonGuy is instructing is Spot On !
Every time I 'treat' myself to a salon I get scalped :(

l have been waiting a lifetime to find a fantastic hair stylist, l have finally found you, thank you so much❤️kate
I was a stylist 30 years ago. Cutting your own hair in layers is def the challenging part of me cutting own hair. Thanks for help!
That’s for sure. It’s gotten ridiculous
The first line of this made me laugh my ass off. Thank you
I have been cutting my own hair and dying it for 40 years now and must say I've never been happier with my creations 👌🤗👌
I know this gentlemen is trying desperately to convince you that you should go to a hair stylist but let me say that you can do it yourself!!!
There hasnt been ANY stylists since the 80's that have known how to cut layers!! Ive been trying to find someone for years
Try a female barber.
Exactly. I bring in pictures & they look at me like a deer in headlights.
Incidentally, I signed in as my husband which is why the user name is MR. lol Thought I better explain that one. lol
this haircut tutorial created a long layered haircut better than the stylist that cut it in person pre-pandemic! nice! thank you!

Ohh myyy gooood! 😍 I just gave myself a beautiful metamorph! It took me over 2 hours (my hair length is similar to your model), one banana and shoulders pain but it was absolutely worth it!!! 😍 I'm in love! Thank you so much 🤩
I'm not a hair dresser and have watched many show how to cut your own hair and you are the best. Thank you so much.
Hopefully I won't screw hers up too much.
awesome video!! I layered my hair along with the video and love the results!! you rock!

Yes today I finally learned if they turn your chair so you are not facing mirror. You are not in good hands.
This is why I looked up this video. The woman who cut my hair SHREDDED my hair to thin it. Which is fine, if it's hidden underneath, but she did it on the top layer. My hair looks frayed and unhealthy.
@@raedinsmore7732 fortunately hair grows back
That’s what I have going on right now…. The thin happy cutter.
This was a great video. I learned a great deal. I'd like to ask if you could possibly show is how to thin out your hair..my hair is super thick.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I honestly think it is one of the best ones out there. Ok, now wish me luck in cutting my hair :)
How did it go?
@@melindacampbell801 it went well, but my arms were killing me afterwards:)
Wow nice cutting your manniguin
Hello I'm watching From Laguna Philippines
I've been cutting my own hair & coloring since I was 12. This was very informative and the perfect cut for my 58 yr.old self. THANKS😁
I'll try to cut my hair the way you teach. You've explained very well and I fiund it quiet easy. Thank you for your explanaition!
0:28 i watched your video once. Mulled it over, then I followed your tutorial and I’m pleased with my results!!! Thank you. My hair is in better shape until I decide on a new stylist.
Thank you! I have had the same cut since I was 14. I haven't been able to find any one that can do it like it's supposed to be. I have been cutting it myself for the last few years. You have helped so much. You are awesome!
This looks like a beautiful cut with natural flowing layers . Thank you
