This cut brought so much life to my hair and really picked up my curl! I'm pretty sure this is best haircut I've ever had, and I did it myself thanks to you! Unbelievable!

You saved my life! This was my haircut while I was in London. Back home (Brazil) for almost 2 years now, I’ve been in several hairdressers and they don’t know how to do this haircut properly. I tried myself today and looks good! Thank you soooooo much!
So grateful for this video. I did this today on my hair.. it was not easy to do on yourself but I managed. I razor cut the edges as well as some channel cutting. I am very happy with the results even though it does not look exactly like this. I went to my hairdresser for this cut but it was all flat in the back with no roundness or volume to give that bob look.
As a mom of 2 under 2 who doesn't have an active baby sitter you seriously saved my hair. I finally got it cut and colored two months ago and I ended up hating it but just assumed that I had to live in a pony tail until I could finally get it fixed, but this video definitely helped give it life again.
Love this cut. I have to tell you me and my 5 year old granddaughter was watching this together and you pulled her head off I never heard a scream so loud right in my ear. She's fine and we had a great laugh ty
Hi Paul As a retired hairdresser I'm very particular about my haircut. I usually do it myself with a little help from my sister. I have trouble getting the line correct, using this method of sectioning the hair with bands had never occurred to me until I came across your video. Thanks for sharing your expertise and your sense of humor! 👍😁
My hair is pretty thin and because of that I hate going to the hairdresser... I followed your easy instructions and I love the extra volume this haircut gave me❤️ thank you
I'm not sure you'll see my comment but I was excited to read your comment. I have fine hair too. I've had this haircut before and I loved it. Unfortunately the cut was 200 bucks and that's not in my budget anymore. I was just wondering if you had any advice? Were you able to copy his instructions without any problems?
Oh yeah, hairdressers can be really cruel. One of my pet peeves at the hair dresser is also the chemicals they use and I hate breathing them in. I prefer much more natural ways.
That center pony tail is the thing I was missing when cutting my own hair. This cut is so much easier than my layering method of pulling sections forward, add an inch, and cut. My crown hair was always a bit longer than I wanted. Thanks for the video.
I tried this for my naturally wavy hair and it’s the best cut I’ve had in years! It brought back the wave, took out weird “shelf layers” I had and Ifeel beautiful. Had no idea how to point cut and was scared but it’s terrific!
I was a stylist for 7 years (and I've maintained a current license since 2006), this is such a great visual and descriptive explanation of not only an angled cut, but layers as well. Ensure that you do the point cutting at the end to blend and soften. Love this tutorial!
I did this and I love my hair!! Exactly how I wanted it! I asked for this similar look in a salon one time, and she wasn't even close. I did it myself and got the look I wanted 😍 thank you!!
Great job! It’s surprising how many young stylists haven’t a strong understanding of the these basics…elevation, graduation and over direction. Keep on teaching 🙌
Thank you so much for all the videos you put out! I've cut my hair the last two times and just cut my mom's, she is happier than ever! Not only have you saved us so much money, but I think I like it more now than I ever have in the salon! Thank you!
I did it!! Love it!!! My hair was mid back this was a big chop. Worth it!!! Im a licensed cosmetologist and yes yes yes for those that say he has no idea what he is doing, this is an actual cosmotology trick using the bands. He definitely knows what he is doing! To get the legnth right it helps to tie a band where you want the legnth then you can pull the pony in eye sight and then cut.
My husband helped me with this yesterday afternoon. It came out beautiful! My husband helps me cut my hair since it is easier for a second person to cut a straight line. This tutorial gave him confidence in what he was doing. He was impressed with the outcome as well! Thank you for the great tutorial!
Watched this video a couple of times and even though I'm all thumbs I am very pleased the way it came out. I had been depressed about my hair lately and I am so glad I found your channel. THANK YOU
Just spontaniously tried this haircut on myself after the video showed up in my recommendations lol. I didn't cut it quite as short, but it still came out super nice. I am so happy :) Also I didn't blunt cut the sections, but did some point cutting while the hair was still in ponytails. Gave me the perfect texture i wanted
@@brigittan3590 my hair is long enough i can kinda pull it above my head to see where I am cutting If you pull it like sideways/forward it might not be a straight cut. Maybe it helps to use two mirrors
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am a DIY hairstylist with 20+ years of practice/trial and error. Great video, I just searched and found your tutorial and did exactly step by step. Easy and it came out WONDERFUL with little need to further trim or shape. Xoxo
Love it! So simple but a sophisticated result. Once I learned to do ponytail cutting and then the refining bits I switched to that for my own and my daughters haircuts. Excellent results we never could get at the salons we tried. Well, I did get it at one salon many years ago, absolutely perfect haircut that looked spectacular even in a 60mph gale at the beach! Went back to the same salon the next time time but that amazing man had moved on and they refused to give me the info on where he went. I never ever found another stylist so good, sadly. Thank you for your great demos!
Can’t thank you enough for this. Was overseas and in desperate need of a haircut. I had ZERO confidence due to language barriers that I could explain what I wanted and decided to try this. I was super nervous, but figured if I screwed up, my stylist could fix it when I got home. It was as close to perfect as it could be. When I finally made it to the salon when I got home, my stylist couldn’t believe it. I showed her (and 3 of the other stylists who were there) your video. They were fascinated. The owner came over and said, “put that damn thing away before you put me out of business!” Laughing… She then said, “Everyone knows Watts is a genius!” Thank you again for being so generous with your skill and your talent ❤
I’ve been cutting my own hair for years and could never get it quite right. This was perfection and I only had to even out a couple pieces in the front. I have wavy curly hair and it’s very thick. This looks awesome 😎 very happy and saving this video thanks !!!! ❤
I just tried this technique on myself and IT WORKED PERFECTLY! I didn't even have to do any post-trimming... it just looked amazing. If I could post a pic I would but I can't. I will keep this trick handy. Thank you!
I followed your video to cut my cousin’s hair - it turned out fantastic! I liked it so well I then had her cut my hair and I absolutely love it. Thank you for helping those of us who are not hair stylists. 🙂❤️
Omg! I just went for it with my husband’s assistance, following your simple directions. It turned out PERFECT!!! So simple!!! Thank you for your great video!!!!
Thanks so much for this! I cut my hair last night using the pony tails and sectioning like you showed. This morning I cleaned up the layers after blowing it out. It's easier for me to see them on my own head with dry hair. I'm really happy with it! I started cutting my own hair when I was 14 so I'm a little bold. However, I don't have all the mirrors to see the back and sides of my head anymore. Sectioning took a LONG time. Those would have been really handy yesterday! I think maybe I should get some again.
I love the fact that you do tutorials for us to do ourselves in such an easy way. All I’d like to add as someone who went to beauty school, for those watching, is to not yank the hair off your scalp! When you pull the hair between your fingers to cut it, you don’t want to pull the hair really super tight. Just make sure it’s straight and you’re good! I used to do this on myself and learned a valuable lesson. 😅 Pulling that hard will pull the skin and change the shape of the cut. It will look like you cut a straight line, but when you let go of the hair the skin will lie back down and that straight line will have a curve to it. Doing this will keep the hair from having that uniform and flowing look, because it’s not blended. It has a bunch of holes, as my instructor would say.
You had me cracking up when you pulled off the head to give it a shake 🤣. Also, this is exactly what I needed about 6 hours ago when my husband was attempting to give me this haircut. It turned out ok but more blunt. I’ll use this when it in a few weeks when gets longer. Thanks!
Yes, please give a professional technique video on this hair cut!! I love using your salon techniques. I watch the pony tail videos first, then the professional salon videos. Thank you so much for free education!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I did this on my own on my mid-length, thin and curly hair and it is PERFECTION!!! Thank you so much, it looks so beautiful and undone in the best possible way! It took sometime to get the sections right but it is possible to do this alone! I love it!!!!💥
I have curly hair too and have been wanting this haircut for a long time and I don't trust any salon with it but I am so scared to do it on my own too because all these tutorials are on straight hair. I usually cut my own hair...but I am still scared. You are the only curly comment I see so far. Can you give me some tips on how to do it right? Also it doesn't come out choppy does it?
@@preshitakudtarkar2755 Hi! Sure! First, don't be afraid: this looks wonderful on curly hair. It doesn't look choppy but it gives a nice movement to the curls. Second: I washed my hair and made sure I did the sectioning and the cutting with wet hair. I have fine curly hair so this helps to get a clean cut and clean sections. Third: Spend time to get the sections right! Don't rush that part. And once you put the hair bands in place DON'T pull tight on the hair. That will gather some strands on top and it will make the cut uneven Four: don't be shy. If you don't cut enough length off, you won't see much change. Follow the video for length (and for everything else 😁) Go for it, take your time and don't worry! You'll be fine!!💫👌
So I just tried in on myself and guys… it’s not as easy as it looks 😅 At first it looked like a hot mess but after some chaotic blow drying and even more chaotic pointcutting, I just love the final result! My soft, fine hair is now bouncy and has an amazing volume. There really is so much movement and even minor mistakes (and trust me, I’ve made some) look good. This is going to be my go to haircut now, thank you so much!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this perfect tutorial. After many stressful and disappointing visits to the salon, I decided to cut my own hair and have been doing so for 7 years! I wanted this exact haircut and tried this method. I LOVE MY HAIR!
I love this technique! Thank you so much! I started cutting my own thick, wavy hair in 2020 and yours is the best method. I don't think I'm ever going back to a stylist. Always over focused on "getting rid of that bulk," I'm left with thin, uncontrollable hair every time. This produces a nicely shaped mid length hairstyle that, with a little point cutting, is perfect for my hair. 💐💐💐
I love these videos! I am also a stylist who cuts my own hair and I understand the principle behind this that makes it work. It’s a great way to get it done fast! I do a shag cut on my hair and since I found your two pony tail technique, I always do it on myself that way now! I also point cut into it to refine at the end. Beautiful!
I just did this haircut, as an attempt to fix a bad haircut (in my opinion) and it worked beautifully!! Thank you so much! You saved me a lot of time and money, since I don't have to see a new hairdresser.
Cutting behind my head wasn't easy, but definitely worth the trouble because this natural style is exactly what I wanted. It was a relief to be rid of so much bulk yet still have enough to pull back in a small ponytail. It was pretty awkward for me to do but it looks great, and you are so kind to help us out with styling our own hair! And this is the shortest I've ever worn my hair, yet I don't miss it at all!
Omg! I’ve just watched few videos on haircuts; butterfly long hair cut, and long bob layered cut. Couldn’t believe you’ve used the methods I have been using for years for cutting my hair.😃
Omg yaaaas! Watching from San Diego, California and once my 21 year young daughter wakes up. I’m going to ask her to do this to my hair. I will get it wet, pulled back and primped for her!! I’ll let u know how it goes!
Used this video twice, and I LOVE my hair!!! I have fine wavy hair, and I need to keep it shoulder length so it will hold the wave. Brilliant tutorial with the sectioning. If I can do it, anyone can! 🤩
Just did it today with my husband's help! Your videos never fail and have saved me SO much money haha! I also added some magenta and violet color to my dark brown hair. I'm in LOVE!
Thank you. It seems we all tried immediately. 😂 I used to put all my hair( thin) in one pony tail on the top of my head and cut during pandemic, just tried this, it's not perfect for sure, but it is great idea. Looks good. Thanks.
Will diffinetly be doing this!!! I never go to a salon to cut my hair! I swear they see a pretty girl and there determined to butcher my hair! I Only 2 people my entire life have ever cut my hair properly! Love this! ❤️
You brought back old memories of my sister-in-law. In the early 80's l heard about an easy way to cut a layered hair-cut. You laid on top of a table with your head hanging down and then you just cut it straight across evenly. It looked horrible, but of course we didn't think about the big wad of hair her boyfriend pulled out the back of her head. She wasn't mad, I never cut anybody's hair after that and we got a really BIG laugh out of it! I sure do miss her.
I didn't get as much of an invert as I had hoped, but I'm broke right now and needed a trim desperately. This was fast and easy, and gave me the results I needed to hold me over. Thank you!!
Last time i went in to a salon to get a professional haircut i asked for a textured a-line bob, showed pictures etc. The person was around my age so not that old and not just fresh out of school either. She had good reviews. What i got did not look an a-line bob. Too short on front, too long and mullety in the back and if i curled it i would have looked like a granny in a bingo night... it's been some years and i've been cutting my own hair...
Have just cut my hair following your video. It is PERRRFECT and stylish! I have fired my hairdresser. Lol. Thanks a million. I have forwarded your video to all my friends who can't get out in this pandemic!
thank you, that's exactly the haircut I was looking for, I'm tired of the long straight look, everybody said I look like I'm in the 1900s, so I think this is going to bring me into the century, something modern and flattering
Just did this, love it ❤ been cutting Wolfe and butter cuts keeping my length. Needed a change. Took 5 inches off bottom pony tail. Took me a while to part the three sections. Turned out wonderful!!!! Thank you ❤❤
Well...Paul I DID IT! turned out really well. Kinda struggled getting my sections but that's all me. I have thick wavey hair so all I have to do is scrunch it after a wash. I did go shorter. But I love it...i didn't think about the angle of my pony tails and didn't realize how much it affects the cut. And I used hair Clippers which gave my a cleaner baseline to point cut off of. I'm looking forward to your great tutorials...good luck on hitting your goal!😊
@@lauraaltieri520 yes I did go ahead and try it myself. What I found was for me...to section of the entire top concentrating on doing the rectangle but including the horseshoe section and put that in a pony. Then doing the bottom pony. I then cut the bottom to the length I wanted, but before I pulled out the pony I point cut the ends THEN pulled it out. Then on the top I went ahead & sectioned the horseshoe part away from the front and reponyed them. Following Paul's tutorial. The only thing I did differently was to point cut the ends BEFORE taking them out because I found it easier to control..I hope this makes sense...wish we could post pics so I could show you my results 😊
@@lauraaltieri520 ya gotta try this...do the 3 pony, only point cut it before you take out the rubber band AND if you have them thin it out too with thinning shears. THEN take it out of the ponytail. THEN do the Wolf cut!! Keep in mind it'll be too short to get all the back into a back pony, but I did a wolf cut on my short hair taking off about 2 inches on the top to make it the same lengthy as my back pony when I held them both vertical. Then again point cutting and thinning. It added so many more layers in the front! I'm soo happy with it now!!! I so wish I could put up a pic... 😊
I am a stylist who cuts her own hair and since I am wearing some length to my hair I have found a pony to the rear of my head keeps my from looking like a contortionist when I cut it! Thxs for the video, Mr Paul!❤️❤️ I have been wanting to stack the back of my hair again becuz it works so well for me and I got more compliments!!
Thought the end style was a real model! 😳 What a great technique! Wish they taught these types of methods in cosmetology school. Love the cut, color and style! Great tutorial!
Every DIY cut I’ve done off however, you’ve managed to give instruction much like extracting essence of a beautiful bouquet 💐. The cut turned out on point! It leaves room for error and makes it chic. Excellent work and THANK YOU ☺️.
i used this technique the other day, Great tutorial and I'm still shocked and amazed that I could do this at home by myself AND have such great results.
Thanks,I watched your video today. I put in the rubber bands in my hair. I made my husband cut my hair. It was the first time in my life I saw him scared. It cam out fairly well. Thank you!
Thank you for this video! The only video that shows how the layers look when connected and dried. Exactly what i needed to see having straight hair. Excited to try this later 🥳
Love it! Thank you for dispelling so much of the mystery around haircuts. If you are looking for video topics, short videos on the refining techniques you use, such as how to point cut, would be great. Also styling videos; I can't seem to master the blow dryer. 😆I also have crazy cowlicks, so learning how to either cut or style working with natural wave patterns would be indispensable. Thank you!!!
i just tried this hairstyle on my elder sisters long hair and the end results were stunning. She really loved the way it turned out. Thanks alot for this much easy tutorial.
Thank you I've been cutting my hair for a couple of years now I love these ponytail cuts really helped the thinning look in the back get a nice blunt cut
Thank you thank you thank you This was such an easy diy cut I prefer doing my own hair rather than going to a salon It was so easy and came out amazing It took all of 10 minutes Parting and sectioning took the longest I look forward to seeing more of your videos
Absolutely LOVED your video, the style came out beautifully. My husband and I cut my hair about 11/2 weeks ago and I so wish I knew then what you just showed me. I'll just have to wait a few weeks to give it a try. Thanks so much. Luv u, Karen
Thank you for making this video! This is THE HAIRCUT I've been trying to get stylists to do on my hair for the longest time and now I know how to ask for it in terms they can understand. Yay! It's one of the few haircuts that seem to actually work for my super thick coarse hair with lots of density and volume at the crown. I would LOVE to see the section-by-section salon floor technique version of this haircut! Pretty please! :)
I broke my ankle las month, so won't be able to go to my hairdresser any sooner. Watched this and decided to give it a try. Thank you so much, I really needed a trim 🥰
I'm trying this tonight! I've followed others with results that will get me by, but not satisfied. This looks great and instructions are easy to follow. Thank you!
It turned out perfect! I almost didn't do the refining step, because i was so tired from the day, but it def was the cherry on top. I love my haircut! This is the step I'm talking about 11:19

I imagine my hairdresser shaking my head by the neck to set up my hair. Lol. I couldn't stop laughing. You're so funny. And very lovely
Omg I laughed too 😂😂😂
@@fossil1127 11:06 and so did i😂😂😂!!!!
My god that made me laugh loud , and watching it late as 11:30 at night, everyone is sleeping.😅
Watched this video a couple of times and even though I'm all thumbs I am very pleased the way it came out. I had been depressed about my hair lately and I am so glad I found your channel. THANK YOU
I hope you are feeling better. I have been feeling a bit that way myself. I'm gonna give this a try 💖
Im interested in doing it your way also, i just dont want the back section to be quite so short, did u achieve that as well?
He did point cutting too, dry
How do you do it on yourself? I should pull the sections forward?
@@sanforddavis1686 yep, i just didn't take off as much length 😊 it worked for me
@@brigittan3590 my hair is long enough i can kinda pull it above my head to see where I am cutting
If you pull it like sideways/forward it might not be a straight cut. Maybe it helps to use two mirrors
I tried this today and it worked! I have thick, wavy hair and I took off about 5 inches. Thank you so much for this video!
Great to hear Granny T
And everyone clapped..
Pulling that hard will pull the skin and change the shape of the cut. It will look like you cut a straight line, but when you let go of the hair the skin will lie back down and that straight line will have a curve to it.
Doing this will keep the hair from having that uniform and flowing look, because it’s not blended. It has a bunch of holes, as my instructor would say.
Wow! I've cut my own hair the past 2 years using a ponytail method, but I love the 3 layered approach you did here! Thanks for this, I love the style.
Same.
You had me cracking up when you pulled off the head to give it a shake 🤣. Also, this is exactly what I needed about 6 hours ago when my husband was attempting to give me this haircut. It turned out ok but more blunt. I’ll use this when it in a few weeks when gets longer. Thanks!
Do you sometimes wish you could pull his head off and give it a shake?😂
What went wrong
Trying to be quiet, while everyone in my house sleeps, but dammit I laughed so hard when you took the head off! It was just so unexpected.
Also liked how she's suddenly wearing a flannel in the end. Did she get cold? Lol
Lol you’re daring letting your husband do the cut 🤣 I would never 🤣🤣 glad it worked out for you 😁 I’m trying this method this week 😃
@@preshitakudtarkar2755
Hi!
That will gather some strands on top and it will make the cut uneven
Four: don't be shy. If you don't cut enough length off, you won't see much change. Follow the video for length (and for everything else 😁)
Go for it, take your time and don't worry! You'll be fine!!💫👌
OHH one last thing: for the love of curly hair, use hair cutting scissors !!! Don't use the blunt ones you use for the kitchen or you desk!!😊
@@mariadelmardospasos Noted. Thank you so much🥹
it's our second time doing this cut, my husband helped me every time. Thank you!!! we love it 🥰
So I just tried in on myself and guys… it’s not as easy as it looks 😅 At first it looked like a hot mess but after some chaotic blow drying and even more chaotic pointcutting, I just love the final result!
How did you cut the back of your head?
Omg! I’ve just watched few videos on haircuts; butterfly long hair cut, and long bob layered cut. Couldn’t believe you’ve used the methods I have been using for years for cutting my hair.😃
Just did this cut for my daughter with 0.0% experience of cutting hair! Thank you!! 🥰
I love it, the simplicity you have when explaining everything, thank you for your time and patience in explaining everything 🌟🥂🌟
Omg yaaaas! Watching from San Diego, California and once my 21 year young daughter wakes up. I’m going to ask her to do this to my hair. I will get it wet, pulled back and primped for her!! I’ll let u know how it goes!
How did ya go, sis? About to commit, myself xo
Used this video twice, and I LOVE my hair!!! I have fine wavy hair, and I need to keep it shoulder length so it will hold the wave. Brilliant tutorial with the sectioning. If I can do it, anyone can! 🤩
Gracias, eres un amor.. lo hice a mi hija y me quedo super
Only 2 people my entire life have ever cut my hair properly! Love this!
I would never do the ponytail thing on a client but I think it’s a really good way of explaining elevation and distribution to juniors. Great job 👏🏽
I did this cut to myself. The key is Point cut and it looks awesome.
hei, nice hair cut 😊you should show step by step how you divided it into ponytails sections🤗
Hi! Did you manage to do it yourself?😊 I am concerned it might turn out a mess, because I can't see where I am cutting ☺ Thanks.
@@sadriski Thank you so much and well done 👏🏻 ☺
I juts did this cut on my self and I love it!!! Easy , fast and beautiful ❤
Thank you Theresa
Thought the end style was a real model! 😳 What a great technique! Wish they taught these types of methods in cosmetology school. Love the cut, color and style! Great tutorial!
Every DIY cut I’ve done off however, you’ve managed to give instruction much like extracting essence of a beautiful bouquet 💐. The cut turned out on point! It leaves room for error and makes it chic.
Excellent work and THANK YOU ☺️.
Thanks for showing how to make waves with a flat iron. Super helpful!
i used this technique the other day, Great tutorial and I'm still shocked and amazed that I could do this at home by myself AND have such great results.

This was such an easy diy cut
I prefer doing my own hair rather than going to a salon
It was so easy and came out amazing
It took all of 10 minutes
Parting and sectioning took the longest

Absolutely LOVED your video, the style came out beautifully. My husband and I cut my hair about 11/2 weeks ago and I so wish I knew then what you just showed me. I'll just have to wait a few weeks to give it a try. Thanks so much.

This is the prettiest bob I've ever seen, it's so beautiful I love it!! Totally trying this!!
Excellent for cutting your own hair. I did it shorter and it worked great! Easy peasy way to make it even on both sides!
I was wondering how a shorter version would look, and I’d like to see it with bangs. Love the cut he’s a great teacher. 😉
