Just bought the course and I am SO EXCITED that you offer this!! I became my own hair person during Covid and like many of us...ruined my hair by making every mistake possible and having zero clue what I was doing. Then my hair was falling out due to a medication I took for a year. Now...I am on the other side of that hellish nightmare and my hair is growing back. My hair journey will be simply growing it out and trimming it myself this year, allowing time to do the rest. I already feel relief from watching the first intro video. It will help confirm some of the stuff I learned the hard way. Thank you so much for being here. Happy 2024.
This is an overall confidence-builder in that the video is not shot by the person cutting their hair, but of the person cutting their hair, and the specific instructions are great. But I wish the person that demonstrated did not have such short, layered hair already. I really needed to see it done with long hair that has the layers all grown out to see how to cut a clean line when there is no visual from other layers to guide you.
I've only been to the salon a few times in my life. I gave myself cuts and then about 15 years ago i flipped my head upside-down, brushed it all even and just cut across; and when i flipped my head back up i had a great cut and to my suprise also front layers. I've cut my hair that way ever since.
I just done this tonight, only at a much sharper angle (straight up and down). I LOVE how it turned out and it was so much easier than how I typically do it.
I color my hair and do simple trims at home but couldn't fathom adding some layers, it looked too tough. I just made an appointment for this exact haircut 😂 Cancelling now. Thank you!!
I'm so happy about this video. Honestly I've always cut my own hair as I had a few really bad experiences with haircuts. Thank-you. I love your channel.

Hi Justin! Love this tutorial, I have been cutting my own hair for years because it's long, curly, voluminous but thin and, at several hair salons, despite asking to just layer it, they always cut my length a lot. Now I'm the one who cuts the ends every now and then and layered. I took a look at your videos, I've seen some, but I don't see much about curly hair... Do you think it's an unflattering hair type? You really don't see many celebrities or high society people with curly hair. What do you think?
Just watch a different channel. I've been cutting my curly hair for years, and this video might help somebody, but honestly it is a joke to me. Starting right away with "flat iron it". I laughed, bc I haven't used heat on my hair or owned a flat iron in over a decade.
Love the approachability of your videos. Why am I lowkey terrified to try this? lol Looking for a link to the tools mentioned in the video ... like thinning schears ...
I would love to see you cut thin on top curly hair, for over age 50. So far everyone that has cut my hair, cut it wet. I ask if they know how to cut curly hair, and they say yes. I end up with shorter hair in the front, and much longer in the back because my side curl more. Love your videos. Thank you. Wish your shop was closer to me. I am about 2 hours south.
Would you show how to cut the Farrah Fawcett look? for years, the hairdressers would layer my hair whereby you would comb the hair straight up and then cut layers which would be a little bit shorter in the front. It is nearly impossible to get hairdressers to do that now. I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
Great tutorial! I've been cutting my own hair for a few years with a similar technique. I've recently lost quite a bit of hair in the front and I'm wondering if this technique will still apply or would you approach thinning hair differently?
I had a bad experience as a child over 50yrs ago. So I have long hair. I cut my own hair. I have been to the salon but what really turns me off is seeing all the staff with really bad hair every time you passing by. Thanks for the tips

I’ve been loving your videos, especially those aimed at more mature women. I have a question about coloring that no one so far has had an answer for. My hair is naturally a dirty/ashy blonde and I’ve been coloring it medium reddish brown for decades. Now I want my grays but I’d like the remaining non-gray hairs to still be colored the medium red. Is there any way to achieve this??
Great video- but any advice on where to start the layers? I'm guessing certain heights are better for certain face shapes. If there is already a video that talks about this, please point me in the right direction. Thanks!
The process is actually the same. You’d just dry your hair straight prior to cutting, then leave it “too long” knowing it’s going to jump up when you dry it.
Let's say someone parted their hair straight down the middle front to back, pulled one entire side, including the hair from the back of it and done this than done the other side the same. a) would this put layers all through including the back? b) how would the back turn out? Would it be even and would the ends be super thin and wispy? c) would the back be in a "v" or "u" angle, or would it be straight across in the back?
For sure. I added a link in the description of this video. They’re $100’ish but that’s surprisingly not expensive for good shears. They can cost thousands.
Wanted to add that Tweezerman makes excellent shears, and they also have a sharpening service - had to find for us non-professionals. I've used their tweezers and cuticle nippers for decades, but discovered the shears a few years ago and love them, and they hold their edge even though I cut my mom's hair monthly and mine every few months.
Many times, when people can't find a stylist they love, they still want a cut they like. In those cases, they deserve to have a tool to achieve that for themselves. The idea that at home tutorials somehow discount salons is a lack mindset view of the landscape. I've taught clients my entire career, how to cut their bangs at home so they didn't have to make a special trip to me for it. I still had clients....and they still needed bang trims at times. It'a a bit like microwave meals. Just because people have the ability to cook easy meals at home doesn't stop them from going out to eat. It may entice some people to eat out less but it's still an entirely different experience. I also don't feel that cooking at home discounts the skills of a good chef. I would argue it gives people a better respect for how hard it is to be really good at it. I think, in many cases (I'm not talking about you since I have no idea how you approach social media), stylists saw a landscape that changed through Covid but didn't change their business to adjust for it. I actually attribute some of this to companies that dove into education for stylists during Covid, but only taught them more cutting/coloring skills instead of how to adjust their social media to grow a business when they COULDN'T actually cut or color clients. It truly frustrated the crap out of me that theses large companies wouldn't help stylist learn to earn money when they couldn't get behind the chair because it didn't help sell the companies products. I still see stylists being taught (and doing) the same old thing with social, posting a back of the head photo on Instagram or Tik Tok of their recent work OR letting people know how many openings they have that week etc. That may have worked a few years ago but now, they just get lost in the crowd. Everyone does that so all the feeds look the same and new clients can't tell the difference. Covid brought in a culture of education for everyone. I would love to see stylists spend less time showing their work (which is still important and valid) and more time educating clients on the problems the client is facing and how to help them solve those problems. After the salons were re opened (and I had taught many of my clients to do their own hair) I found that not only was I able to "share all my secrets online", it was the act of sharing those secrets that grew an audience and had me booked solid for a year with a waiting list, and new clients flying from all over the states for appointments. That is NOT a humble brag (trust me, I'm VERY aware there are SO many extremely talented stylists out there, many have more talent than I will ever have), it's simply to express the importance of using social to add value vs simply sharing a portfolio. Solve peoples problems and you become the authority.

Great question. I have a few videos on hot to cut short pixie haircuts as well as how to cut men’s cuts with clippers. Everything from Bob length to my length hair is covered.
Curious if i did this with my thick frizzy hair, except i took a 2nd pony and rounded a circular clutch around the top, cut this, then let that top one loose and cut like this but a tiny tiny shorter, then blended it by point cutting ( i guess it works that way) if that would look ok
My hair , oh GOD , my poor hair!!! It is naturally wavy to bouncy curls, bright natural red and tips down to about 7-10 inches past my bra! I used a few keratin products and ever since my hair is a brittle looking and feels wrong but I used ACV mixed with water then it was a little better but not quite. The hair cut I have is soooo wrong as I had that new haircut everyone has raved about and I have a tip that’s terrible and it’s just to long for me to cut myself ??? I’m afraid after messing it up like this I think I need to throw in the towel and surrender already!!! I am an old school registered cosm. So it’s not easy!!! I love my hair bc I am so blessed!!! How do I as a blonde make sure that my mid to ends will be soft and silky feeling? What are the best products please! I need help. I usually use a hair oil with a leave in conditioner and a heat protectant, and still my hair feels fried I don’t know what to do….
When coloring or bleaching your Hair @ keep fabulous and healthy you must use oval Plex in your bleach or your colors. You will be amazed how your hair becomes healthy when you condition use cool or Warm water only and don’t strip all the conditioner off your hair. You don’t necessarily need to condition your scalp every time. Also, don’t shampoo every day and don’t use Violet shampoo each and every time but you can condition often without shampooing. Hope this helps.

PERFECT VIDEO!!!! CONGRATS!!!!🎉🎉🎉
I have very long hair almost to my rear end I want to get layers but two layers make your hair more snarly
Would like to see this for very long hair. Or at least as long as in thumbnail
what a doll! Thank you.
Justin needs to do a masterclass on great thumbnail images
What does she use in her hair it is so shiny!?
What is a good style technique for letting your bangs grow out ?
Easy but effective tips
WOW 🤩 AWESOME 💇🏻♀️ 👏
How much of the cut masterclass focuses n short hair? Thanks!
Great question. I have a few videos on hot to cut short pixie haircuts as well as how to cut men’s cuts with clippers. Everything from Bob length to my length hair is covered.
How about if your hair is thinning? How would you cut ?
great tutorial! thank you!
Gracias por estos videos tan útiles ❤🎉
Thank you!
Curious if i did this with my thick frizzy hair, except i took a 2nd pony and rounded a circular clutch around the top, cut this, then let that top one loose and cut like this but a tiny tiny shorter, then blended it by point cutting ( i guess it works that way) if that would look ok
Like a crown carrot top bun then cut, then do the same to the top layer just shorter
Sorry but I meant to mention the back.. the back of mine is like straight
I don't want a down point arrow lol
But not just straight
Soooooo
Excellent....thank you!
So where the result that you show in the title of the video ?
😂 yes, this!
Do you have a link for good scissors ✂️ please. That are good for beards and hair? Thank you for your great content.
I can definitely find some for you. Can I ask your budget? Shears can get really expensive really quickly depending on how good you want them to be.
@@justinhickox up to $50, thank you so very much.
Isn’t this an angle as opposed to layers? When I tell a stylist I want this, I say I want the front angled away from my face.
Thanks!! 😊 new subbie
ypu are such a good teacher. 😃
😌I’m disaster doing my own hair 😫end up running 🏃♀️ to the hairdresser to get it fixed.🤭🤭
I'll stick to my stylist cutting my hair, thankyou.
Great video, BUT I don't have a hair straightener iron and don't want to spend the $$ on one. Anything else I can do?
As a CB lead country singer my hair is very important! Would seem some are so jealous I had to start cutting it myself!! Really! Ugh! Ty❤for hearing me.
Excellent, thanks!
Very good advice. Thank you 🙏😊♥️
So please tell what is the difference between this and a wolf cut if you want layers? Because it seemed to me the wolf cut was easier
How do I as a blonde make sure that my mid to ends will be soft and silky feeling? What are the best products please! I need help. I usually use a hair oil with a leave in conditioner and a heat protectant, and still my hair feels fried I don’t know what to do….
When coloring or bleaching your
Hair @ keep fabulous and healthy you must use oval Plex in your bleach or your colors.
