    OMG after watching this I questioned all the things I'm learning in hair school. Why aren't they teaching it this way??? This is SO much easier and looks flawless, not choppy the way they showed me

    I have super fine medium length hair that I struggle to keep layered for body without compromising the weight or without having a distinct gap between the crown and the ends…but the blunt square cut technique is a game changer!! I always did the round point cut but I’m blown away at the body and layer definition in my hair now using the square technique!! It works beautifully!! And you’re so right, it was the easiest cut and the fastest too!
    Thank you for sharing this!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    Just found your channel today - after I already cut my own hair... 😄 I have cut my own hair many times and it turned out ok today, but it could be better. Now that I've seen this video I'm going to go back over it! Your instruction and clear videos are excellent. I especially appreciate how simple you keep your explanations. Very impressed. Thank you so much!!😍

    Summer! Thank you so much for this great video! I did this on myself, and it turned out great! First, I cut my perimeter, and I got that darn v in the back, but I cut that longest part that travels the most, and then the vi was gone. Then I followed each step carefully as you did in the video. I did the blunt, not point, cut. After a blow out, it was PERFECT! You are the best. You are so talented and you have such a beautiful camera presence. I love all your videos! Thanks a ton!

    Great tutorial! I learned how to do square layers way back in 1996 as a student of Graham Webb Academy. The only difference was, they taught to take pie shaped sections around the back, which after seei g how you do it seems counterproductive. I suffered a neck injury shortly after graduating from GW, so never pursued a career in hairdressing. But doing hair for family, square was always my favorite to do! Thank you for showing point vs blunt cut on the same head. That was so helpful to see them together in the same haircut. That being said, my stylist always point cuts my hair. Next time I'm telling him to blunt cut the layers instead. STUNNING!!!

    Hi summer, I love watching your videos. I actually did this technique the other day and it was the first time in my career that I felt just absolutely happy with the results of the haircut. I’ve been out of Beauty school for two years and have taken numerous classes and still not felt as confident as I did watching this video and re-creating it. Thank you for your education you don’t know how much it truly means to me.

    Hi Summer! Found you through Glam Girl Gabi... So glad I did! This is exactly what I have been wanting for my hair, but have failed to articulate. I really appreciate the videos you have shared that give us the right vocabulary to get what we want! "Surface layers" "drop the perimeter"... square cut vs round cut layers, effects of blunt cut vs point cutting... what to ask for to get what you want and more importantly, what we don't want! Pics help a hairdresser see what we want, but our head shapes and hairline along with hair density can really change a haircut. Going in to a poor hairdresser saying "I want layers" vs "I want long surface layers, square cut to protect my length"... game changer!

    I wish you lived in Florida. I just got my hair cut a few days ago (have fine, but thick hair-wanted to keep my medium length, but asked for some tapered layers to help the crown from looking so flat), and the stylist gave me extremely apparent chunky, disconnected layers. It looks like she put a bowl over my head and cut one thick layer at ear level, and then cut a long layer 2-3 inches below the bowl pieces. I am insecure about a lot of things, but my naturally nice hair has never really needed to be one of them. I have a shoulder/neck condition that limits my ability to do anything beyond waves from a braid, so unless I want to spend the next six months in a ponytail to hide my horrible haircut, I’m going to have to pay to have someone take 3 inches off my length. Thank you for making this video, as it has given me hope that my cut is at least somewhat salvageable.

    Blunt cut for fine hair to build weight and point cut for thick hair to create softness

  • @MesaMynx
    @MesaMynx 10 місяців тому

    Is this doable on thick, coarse hair? I got a really BAD cut a month ago. I normally trim my own hair for years now but went to a salon , the owner did my hair - with blending shears -- my gosh, Im a mess. My hair was one length mostly, about 5 inches past my shoulders. Still long but I have a chunky weight line around my ear /occiput level now . I can't even begin to fix until this grows more. It's disconected from my length by at least 4 inches. I thought of cutting the bottom off to try to give it shape with this type of cut you are showing. My hair use to be a 2b curl and now doesn't do anything since the thinning/blending shears hacked 3-4 inches leaving just an odd texture that doesn't do anything. I can no longer air dry my hair and have it look good. Im heartbroken & I trusted this woman. Every aspect of my hair is uneven. I never would have done this to my self at home even with safety scissors. /cry.. I paid $60 for it, too. P.s Where can I get good 5.5 or 6inch shears for a reasonable price? Or should I just invest $300 in student/professional ones?

I've never been particularly happy with the haircuts I have had and never had a stylist with recommendations on what cut would look great on me. So disappointing! Heat tools seem to turn my hair yellow in spots so usually I air dry and go with my natural wavy texture. Any recommendations without seeing me in person??

    Hi Summer! Your tutorials have been super helpful! How would you describe the difference between these layers vesus the butterfly cut you did about a year ago? Is it just the fringe is heavier on the butterfly cut and more cut out of the length on the sides? I'm looking for something to do on myself that would also look nice diffused with a 2c/3a natural curl. My hair is fine, but I still have quite a bit of it to work with. Thank you for explaining things so clearly!

    I love the look of this cut. I have long, fine, thin hair. Would this type of cut work/look good on me? I can't decide if I like the point cut or blunt cut better.

      Yes, both the blunt or point cutting would work for your hair type!

    Wonderful explanations as always, esp. for we amateurs in the group. Do you think checking one side against the other might be necessary, esp. with a side part, for an amateur?

    • @StylesBySummer
      @StylesBySummer  10 місяців тому

      You would want to check for sure with a side part.

    Hey 👋 thank you for that nice tutorial. Since I never find a good hairdresser around my area I cut my own hair at home. It turns out okay🙈. Would you recommend cutting dry too? Do you cut the parameter before cutting the layers? Do you Just cut them straight? Thank you.

    Excellent tutorial~ thank you! That's about the length I want as well, so even if I mess it up, I should have enough left for a professional to work with since my length is now well past my shoulders. =) I am a bit nervous about the initial perimeter cut/length however, so maybe I'll have my husband do that part, the back I should say~ thx again Summer

    Is there a way to do this short layers all around in the crown area but with ponytails when you don’t have help and have to do it on your own?
