Thank you so much for this, we have been in lockdown for months and hairdressers are closed here, my wife was so desperate she made me cut her hair, and she is really pleased with the result. Considering she has come home in tears from pro hairdressers in the past, I am beyond grateful for these clear and straightforward instructions.
I'm 66 years old and have literally worn my hair every way under the sun. This is, hands down, the BEST video I've ever seen on how to do a layered cut on fine hair. TRULY THE BEST VIDEO!!
I'm a hair dresser myself and you truly inspire me and still over 8 years still learn new techniques from your videos actually did a shaggy haircut today in long hair from 1 of your videos.
Watched this. Cut my hair step by step, being very conservative in the amount I cut. Turned out great, now I may go back and cut more on that top section. Thank you, this was the simplest tutorial I've seen and gives a great cut!!!
He has another fine hair video that is even better for fine thin hair and the mannequin has her Auburn colored hair and it's basically all one length from the parietal ridge down with only some layering through the top and the lower crown area from the parietal ridge up is layered with everything else being one length
I just tried it on myself and it was not that difficult to recreate. You will need two mirrors to help you with the back. I also parted my hair and brought one half down to the front of my shoulder to be able to cut it. It was still a blunt cut and both sides were perfectly cut when I brushed it back. Love my new haircut!!
I wish you would have shown more of the cut while the hair was straight so we could see the detail. Women don't always curl their hair everyday if at all, so it's important to see what the cut looks like straight.
You said EXACTLY what I was thinking... I have fine hair, but I'm hesitant to try this without knowing what it looks like straight because I rarely curl my hair.
Same. I don’t even know HOW to use curling irons, let alone how to braid my hair Lol 😩 I just need a cool cut I can rock naturally with minimal hair product/tools.
Some cuts are cut to look the best when styled and may not look as great when in a natural state. Tell your stylist you want an updated cut that works for you but requires zero styling, like it could air dry and work! A few strategically placed hot rollers can work magic btw Im a guy with long hair the only styling i do is letting it air dry, that's all i have time for. My friend who does my hair is always insisting i get "just a few layers" a layer here and a layer there... Nope, my hair is naturally stick straight Cher hair and i dont want to look like a Kardashian lol
You can find a curl/wave enhancing mousse if you have any wave at all, put that in and try to "fatten" up the strands to an illusion of more hair, OR if it is pin straight and you don't want to style it, just know it won't look as full. I am a professiobal and "washing and go," without some product or styling is not a thing, in most cases, if you want to maximizs what you've got. I do not recommend shags or a ton of layering for fine, low- density hair. One style that looks amazing on women is a pixie. Oftten, people with fine hair want to keep more length and that actually accentiates the issue. Cutting the hair closer to thr head gives an illusion of more hair. This cut Matt did has minimal layering affect fom using overdirection and deeper point cutting and it would lay pretty flat and invisible as far as layering goes, if it were left straight. There were no layers cut in the back, either.
I have very fine 73 year old hair. Kept it cut short until Covid. Now it is at my shoulders and some below. It has a curve, not exactly a wave, to it. Have subscribed. Thank you!
I just don't understand how you can cut your own hair!? I couldn't do it! Not like he does anyway! How would you get the first straight line across the back?
All are beautiful talented hairstylists showing, wonderful, amazing haircuts which transform the models into even prettier beauties I just love watching their work. .Thanks a million.
For the regular cosmetologist this video was right on. For the unprofessional that is going to try this fine hair shrinks when it dries. And it can shrink even more if you pull it down hard when you cut it.
Very helpful! I will actually go to a salon (sometime) and if the stylist won't watch/copy this, I'll find someone else who will. I have baby-fine hair, and always struggle with getting it to look decent. Mahalo!
Thank you for generously sharing your skills. As a retired hairdresser I am fully aware how much training and thought goes into aiming for perfection, something you aim for all your working life and with each client. Fortunately the reward is proportional to your dedication.
Thanks for the education. I live in Serbia ( Europe 🙂) & I have many problems with learning English from the films, but your speech is excellent,so I can learn by hearing using the correct pronunciation & intonation. THANKS ! Greetings ! 🙂😊
Okay so I just did this cut on my hair. Only difference is I kept the back longer. I parted it down the middle in the back and brought the hair up and toward the front and did point cutting. It layered the back. Looks nice and fluffy after scrunching. The only other saving grace I can impart is never use conditioner on your hair if it's fine. A good moisturizing shampoo with no dyes, sulfates or parabens is the best. If need be a light leave in detangler Scrunch, scrunch, scrunch!! Oh! And a diffuser dryer on cool!! :)
I have thick hair but still wanted to watch how he was layering the hair, I have gone to many salons but I have not yet found anyone to cut. My hair the way I want it cut...maybe I can learn to cut it myself through this Channel. Thank you
Nothing wrong with the cutting instructions, that's valuable knowledge. It's the second day that I start fo watch these kind of videos, to find ideas, insights, and possibly confidence too. Either by going to the hairdresser, or cutting it myself. I've done my hair, for many years, cutting it very short, about 4 cm. length, equal all over my head. Very easy. Now, I've let me hair grow to the length of my shoulder blades. It's beautiflly grey with white parts from the temple to the crown. I'm now wearing my hair tight, with a twisted tail bent upwards, fastened with a hairdresser's clip where the top and back of my head meet. I'm thinking about cutting my hair in layers, leaving it at a length of where my mouth is, slighly longer maybe. But the pomp and circumstance of using a hot hairstyler, and wax, or hairspray, or any other substance, no way, not for me. My skin starts itching, I can feel that stuff in my hair, making it sort of.... breathless, clogged, in short.... uncomfortable. I'm thinking about creating grey extensions with wool of a grey sheep, matching with my hair, weaving them through it. Just as an experiment, leaving the present length. I do love dreadlocks, but my hair is fine, the only way to create that sort of look, is by means of extensions, and sculpt a lovely hairstyle with it. I'm not sure how it comes out after washing it, haha. Surprise?
You are so talented and make it look easy, but I know it probably takes years to learn this and become so skilled. I just had my hair cut and styled exactly like this and it looks wonderful. So glad I also have a great hairdresser who has awesome skills. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work!
I have fine hair but it’s all one length and it’s very long. Almost touching my hips in the back. I really enjoyed this haircut. I wish I could take my head off and give it to myself LOL
Love the technique. However, it would be more beneficial to see this done on a real model. My daughter has very fine hair and wants this type of cut, but this mannequin has way more hair than her. So, of course the cut will look fabulous. Hope you can line up a live model with actual fine hair and show us how it works for real life. Love the information you provide!
@@ms.jackson9349 Thank you for commenting. I meant that mannequins thick hair way more than most people. I would like to see this technique done on a real person with fine hair rather than a mannequin with thick hair. The only mannequin I’ve ever seen with thin hair was one at school whose hair had been fried and she looked like a bad case of the mange.😆
Oh why can't I find a beautician this good, knowing about a blunt cut & point cut, or even knowing about fine hair. Everyone I've had just guess & hopes for the best.
Thick vs thin (all hair); course vs fine (each hair). Many times I heard you say fine when I think you meant thin (?) Please clarify. It looks great and I need to make sure it's right for me. Thanks so much!
I like the look better right after you cut it before curling or adding anything. A good cut will look good when you wake up!! Wish you could cut my hair😉
This is great...Going to try it for my fine hair. I was looking for some kind of tutorial since I've cut my own hair all my life, but now that I'm older, I need a refresher for the right way to do it! lol Thanks - very helpful!
@Kirsty S Haven't had time yet as I've been busy sending my grandson off on his way in life. But, it will be happening soon and I really am confident it will go well. Can't wait to try it! The worst that can happen is going to a professional to have them straighten out the mess you made and living with shorter hair for a while - lol. I've had them ask me anywhere from, "WHO cut your hair"?! to "wow, you got quite creative here"!!! LOL - thankfully it grows back!!! lol
Love this cut and you're absolutely right about it being a fun one to do as well. Along with the point cutting which is so important for the finished texture on fine hair especially. Unless it's a cut with a heavy weight line and precision angles fine hair looks terrible done with a blunt pair of scissors imo. Great video. 👍 A+

Luv stylist's technique, esp how he wears the shears on ring finger and flips it to cut after sectioning. The wand iron..wow. Beautiful result. Kind of like a waterfall which is something I love and have been striving for as a do-it-yourselfer. I do not care for my waves and curls and typically iron it straight I think I could tolerate this wand curl technique. I'm about to try a spray wax. not really good with products and have found that oil helps keep my hair at bay, and this was quite the learning curve. Depending on the purpose, it's best to do a little research on which oils penetrate and which oils protect and coat the hair shaft. And then there's application. I found for my type of hair,it's best to apply when wet(B4 toweling) then style it and add more oil as needed. I kind of like when it's a little oily and separates cuz in an hour or two my it's going to soak it up anyway as it's quite porous almost cottony in the "wrong conditions." It took a long trial/error period find my sweet spot when applying oils. Luv how he likens fine hair to "fine fabric" at the wrap-up. Very nice and educational. The ends look so good too👍💅👍
This is good , when taking the section and cutting them part by part , that's how the hair looks fuller. Nowadays you don't find beautician's to where they section off the hair before cutting 😩 I hate when they just comb down my hair and cut across, dry at that 😢 that's worse then me cutting my own hair.
Lov it.. do u have a list of the products u used? Would sure like to know where to get them.. and if I was in your area.. I would definitely have u do my hair.. thanks so much..
It's a beautiful hairstyle, I know many women with very thin hair that that style would look good on them. But those same women would love to have as much hair on their head as that mannequin has.
Hello. from Mauritius. lovely haircut. my hair is much much longer. the first time I had such a haircut was when I had lots of hair loss due to stress after a big problem at my workplace. you wield yr hair scissors magically to do a great haircut and it turns any person with fine hair into a super pretty person full of confidence. can u please do a video on waist long fine hair with curtain bangs, bring in volume and also side bangs to remove the split ends as well. I wish you can show an educative video like that so that I can get an idea what to tell my hair stylist as I love my long hair but I want curtain and side bangs with lots of volume and also show how to style my hair anytime. lots of love from Mauritius. kindly reply back.

Nowadays you don't find beautician's to where they section off the hair before cutting 😩 I hate when they just comb down my hair and cut across, dry at that 😢 that's worse then me cutting my own hair.
I would love more fine hair vids!
I want to try this cut to curly hair . I think will be look fantastic . Thank you bro for this tutorial video. 🙏

It's a beautiful hairstyle, I know many women with very thin hair that that style would look good on them. But those same women would love to have as much hair on their head as that mannequin has.
I have the identical hair texture and color. Love this video from start to finish. Thanks

Hello. from Mauritius. lovely haircut. my hair is much much longer. the first time I had such a haircut was when I had lots of hair loss due to stress after a big problem at my workplace. you wield yr hair scissors magically to do a great haircut and it turns any person with fine hair into a super pretty person full of confidence. can u please do a video on waist long fine hair with curtain bangs, bring in volume and also side bangs to remove the split ends as well. I wish you can show an educative video like that so that I can get an idea what to tell my hair stylist as I love my long hair but I want curtain and side bangs with lots of volume and also show how to style my hair anytime. lots of love from Mauritius. kindly reply back.
Amazing volume for fine hair!!
