I have just attempted to cut my own hair following this video. And I am loving the result!!!! 😍 previously I had shoulder long hair that was flat with no layers and heavy at the bottom. Now I have pretty layers! Although the final result may not be 100% amazing like the video, but it's probably 80% and I'm satisfied with it 😍 I didn't get to trim properly the back part since my husband was scared that he would mess up my hair 🤣 so I just skip the trimming part and do the layer cutting. I have to admit it was daunting at first but after a few snippets I could see I was making good layers so I was more confident to do it. And I think this style is quite forgiving, it's not fatal even if you don't cut extremely neat, as long as it's still within the guides. I'm loving my hair now ❤️❤️❤️ thank youuuu Summer. Please continue to post more videos!

This is a good endorsement to give this a go. Thanks. Btw I keep my boyfriend as far away as possible from my hair w a pr of scissors. Once he positively ruined it as passive-aggressive act of unkindness as he had no intetest in helping me. He destroyed the entire back of my hair ad though he were literally blind with Tourettes Syndrome to “teach me” never to ask him again. I returned the “lesson” by leaving his as* and never looking back. Many tears I shed over that evil prank. Amazing what people are capable of, but I realize it reflects more upon me in choosing him than on him. 🥲🙋‍♀️

Bunda Lucu - I did the same thing, with starting hair similar to yours. Also satisfied w/ results, although I'll be smoothing out [texturing?] the layers in the days ahead. My arms got tired!!

This is the cut that looks the best on me with my face shape. I love your technique. Every single time I get my hair done, I go home and have to cut uneven sections. It’s very upsetting, especially paying top dollar. I even show pictures. Thank God hair grows back. I absolutely love this video. You go girl. Great instructions and awesome hairdresser.

This is exactly what happens to me. I even take pictures and ask for exactly what you did in this video. I end up leaving with chunky layers that flip out on the ends and it nearly makes me cry. It's the exact opposite of what I ask for every single time. I had my hair cut this way for YEARS, but now no one will do it because everyone is wanting the trendy blunt cuts with shaggy layers. It looks horrible on me, but I keep trying to get closer by being more specific every time with my terminology. If I want this exact cut, what particular words should I use? Thank you for this amazing video of a beautiful cut!!

Once you get your guides and perfect them! You will eventually not even need them! I know you probably panic on each time you have to cut a new line of hair! Learn your guides and your angles! If you can perfect that you’ll be a great cosmetologist! Also learn your lab your color mixing! One of the most important things to know! I went to school in the 70s already knew a lot from doing things on family that were BRAVE! School is very scary at times but pay attention to everything you can and you’ll have a great career! Good Luck☘️And continue to learn all the time! I had my own business! My daughter is licensed and does nails! Im retired! This kind of work is hard on your body that’s why my daughter decided to go into nails! My Granddaughter is in Make up! She’s Fabulous!

love this! this is what i told my new hairdresser I wantwhen i recover from surgery. I have seen more hairdressers in the last 5 yrs than I had in the 15 yrs before that - they keep quitting or they're in a rush & don't do that great etc. (We moved from our home state 11/2016 which is why i had to start all over) One girl messed up on cutting my hair which i didn't notice for 2-3 days because of the way it was styled & I didn't wash it for that long due to health reasons. I was so disappointed because my hair was finally growing & I needed a good 2 inches or so cut off! Wish you were one state further north. Thank you for posting this. I'm going to share with new hairdresser..

I'm usually disappointed by hairdressers so I cut my own hair now. This video really helped guide me and although not as perfect looking as the cut on mannequin, I'm happy with results. 😊 In past a hairdresser doing a straightening on me asked who cut my hair? When I told her I did she said wow, "I couldn't of cut it better myself!" I was really flattered. (I worked in spas and beatyshops and watched the gals cut hair during down time).

As a licensed cosmetologist, I love seeing someone trying to teach people how to cut hair, that actually knows what they are doing. Anyone wanting to learn watch this lady, she knows what she’s talking about and gives great step by step, instructions. If you are trying to cut your own hair, I just want to add…don’t!!! It is 99% impossible to get the same cut on both sides of your hair, due to angle you have hold the hair as you cut it. Also, hair dressers hate it when, a person cuts their own hair and then comes in a says ‘can you fix it”? This happens more then you an imagine and since your going to need helping fixing whatever is left, why not just pay to get it done right the first time? Thank you Summer, for taking the time to teach proper procedures. Your one of the best, I have watched on line!

Thank you so so much! I have been looking for this hair cut for several years now… my previous stylist, who lives in different state, was cutting my long hair like this and it lookd so beautiful. Also it would grow in to a nice longer hair so I visited her only like once in 6 month to treem my hair. Amazing style! I love it so much! Thank you again, now I can show it to my current stylist. I live in Florida. I wish you were somewhere around, I would be your client!

I have always had my hair cut dry cut. I have really thick hair. The only thing I don't like is the point cutting. I have always layers since 6grade. I like to hot rollers. The point cutting enables me to grab that layer wrap it around my roller , years ago with regular layering I could see my layers. I always had 3 to 4 layers. I like watching your video. Look forward to seeing more. Happy Holidays to you.

Hi 👋 I just discovered you on UA-cam yesterday as I was trying to find someone who do the type of haircut I like. I’m originally from New York where I had a stylist who did my hair perfectly. I was living in North Carolina the past 23 years and now moved to Texas and all these years I’ve been doing my own hair best I can because I can’t find a good stylist. Needless to say I instantly loved how well you explain everything and your cuts are on point(pun intended 😅) I subscribed right after watching the 1st video. I believe between this Lob and the Long hair curtain I found my cuts. Thanks so much for sharing your skills and knowledge ❤

@@StylesBySummer Done it, bit of a struggle at the back but I did it wet & then just snipped through dry after the blow wave as you recommended. Its not the best in world (certainly not a cut of yours) but almost as good as I have paid a fortune for in the past. Thank you so very much Summer!!

My hair are super long, half way down my bum. I have not had a haircut in 11 years because I never get the haircut I ask for, plus, the stylists chopped the length off my hair every time. So now I stopped getting a haircut altogether. I would love a layerd haircut exactly like this. You respected the length the client desires and still gave a beautiful layered look with so much volune. The face framing was perfect.

Dang girl you are on point! I have long hair and NOONE but my one hairdresser knows this ! Everywhere i have tried over the yrs just dont get it ! They leave shelfie layers or razor( thin out) way to much amd causes my hair to frizz because they are actually CUTTING my hair when they do that. Wish i could get a good a haircut from u !

I wish I could show this video to the last stylist that cut my hair. This is what I wanted but she did my layers at the bottom part of my hair I also asked for long layers I know this video is for short layers but if my short layered cut resembled this, I'd be happy. My cut is choppy. Hate it! Well, the search continues.

I followed the principles of this cut my self. My daughter helped me with the back. The best cut I've had in a long time. I spend 180 at my salon but the cuts didn't flatter my face shape. My husband even complimented me. I have medium to short length hair and styled it with beach waves.
