Eh. It's also about knowing what tools you need for the job. Knowing WHY you're using a compressor and knowing what to grab in your toolkit. You can have the best ears in the world but if you don't know what to do AFTER you hear stuff it doesn't matter
@@thesoundmajors9858 I agree with you. Knowing your tools help you a lot, speed up your workflow and achieve great results. Although knowing what you are after is something crucial. You can achieve good results by having your intention clear,even you spend a bunch of time trying tools. On the contrary, knowing you tools without no clues over the end product is useless. I got you point, you are right 👍
DONT WORRY ABOUT THE PLUGINS YOU CAN DO THE SAME THING NO MATTER WHAT YOU USE JUST LEARN WHAT YOU HAVE!!!!
Second this. I make a living from mixing and at this point I can mix a record using Logic or PT Stock no problems. I'd miss R Bass and Sooth.
Tokyo Dawn Labs is sick for some color EQ and one of the all time cleanest compressors for free.
EQ - small changes | Compressor - -2/3db | De-esser - 3500-5000kh | 2nd Compressor - emphasize what you like | 2nd EQ - go crazy w it (-db @4500kh for males usually) | Doubler

Any reason why you did all your surgical EQing after you compressed? Wouldn't you want your EQ changes to go into the compressor instead of after?
Idk why he does it but for me it’s easier to hear the details after the sound is compressed

I’m told everywhere that vocals should be mono and they come mono on my end. It makes me curious what it means to have vocals in stereo format ?
The vocal signals are still mono, but the vocal track itself was probably received stereo from the recording engineer, or there’s a stereo plugin on the vocal track that turned it into a stereo track. Hope it makes sense

I'm lowkey thinking we're hearing the sound from his speakers, not direct audio in addition to the bad mic lol. The female sound direct though.

Artist was to close to the mic. It has nothing to do with the mic itself. I record in my untreated living room with a $150 at2035 mic with literally just one sound treatment board behind me when I record an get great sounding vocals. people sleep on the little stuff that makes the most difference like actually getting a good performance when recording, and recording at the right levels into the daw. You would be amazed how much those things and mic placement matter. If you can’t get a good vocal with a decent mic and interface than your mixing is the issue.
What plugins is he using? I only recognize pro q.
I know puigchild compressor from waves but that's about it
Fairlchild, Deesser, SSL all from waves. Doubler as well
SSL channel is from Uad
why does he put the de-esser after the compressor? i thought you would normally use the de-esser first so the compresser doesn't bring out the harshness?
Personal preference
To Control the esses a little more after compression. Compression can make the esses louder

So everything is on an Aux?
yeah, route your output of the multiple tracks to an aux (vocals on the vocal aux of the singer and drums to the drum aux. etc). then, route the aux’s output to the stereo.

Yeah how it’s recorded makes a difference but the less eq the better, saturation, and riding the level after light compression is probably gonna get you your best results
That vocal has more low end than an 808
youre hearing the vocals through his speakers , its not like screenrecorded audio

This is an example of polishing sh*t. If you have a bad recording, you could potentially have a decent result, but it won't be perfect. This recording has so much room tone captured and would need to be masked to be less apparent...but that processing also affects the main vocal. All in all, invest in your performances...it'll be worth it in the end.

honestly make it real quick, it wont take that long if you have the waves bundle, its only 5 plugins from that bundle at most
