    As someone that currently raps and mix and masters his own shi instead of hitting up producers, this video really hits home. LEARN TO MIX, whether you are a producer or an artist because it goes a long way in understanding what's going on with your music

      @@JasonTopo idk if this helps but: Gate or drum buss (remove noise), EQ to cut low/add high (if you rlly want, remove sweeping frequencies too), compression (even out.deaden sounds to fit mix), reverb (fuller sound). Everything else for me after those things is to really make stuff sound good.

    Guys invest in a interface where u can bypass the preamps and buy a good external amp and a compressor.. maybe an eq in the future. I was never an analog person but when ur questioning why ur vocals arent warm and have so many artifacts/sibilance its because ur using 50 plugins to make it sound like an analog vocal chain. Atleast for me 🤷‍♂️ I used to use so many plugins, now I use like 2.. an eq for additional low cuts and softube cl1b compressor and it sounds craazy.

    I use reaper but i know mostly this all applies. can someone tell me why should i record on a separate track and then drag it down?? i thought it doesnt make a difference. i mean i dont put my effects on my tracks i just make a bus or folder and on it have a gate, autotune, eq, compressor and de esser when i record u know just the basics. then when i start mixing i put the rest of my effects on that same bus apart from my reverb, delays, doublers, ozone imager or anything of that sort that creates space i just send them to the bus. i have separate busses for main vocals, background adlibs etc. sorry if it's a lot im still fairly new to this

  • @noahbrown5679
    @noahbrown5679 3 роки тому

    Wouldn’t it be better to leave the sends dry on the whole vocal Channel and just adjust the sends accordingly for each vocal track?
    Example: If I wanted the lead vocals to sound dry and the adlibs to sound wet with reverb, I can just adjust the main vocal track send to (no reverb) and for the adlib track, turn the reverb send higher? Wouldn’t that make more sense?O is there a better reason that I’m missing for turning the sends up on the entire vocal channel?

    This is a great starting point but I will say that gates and low cut filters should be on each vocal track opposed to group but it can work both ways. Every vocal take is different and you may need a slower gate attack on fast verse raps while faster attach on drawn out chorus vocals. Also the different tones on songs will require that some tracks cut more bass out than others so eq on the group just as a big picture but do main eqing on each vocal

      @@baltaza I said that cause he said "the group has the chain. You put the chain on the group only." some people new to recording/mixing might take that as gospel not knowing that it's better to have a gate on each channel not just a group

    Does he print the efx he has on the tracking section to the vocal when he records?

    I fuck with the analog noise TBH, but I try to set it low as possible. Helps to fill in extremely high treble frequencies and it doesnt fuck with the low end.

    For using autotune while tracking & mixing with this: would you put it on first or would you apply that after the gate? I was tracking earlier & added the autotune after the gate & think that it sounds a bit off.

    i am having a problem with this setup, i have all those compressors on the group, and then i have multiple tracks in the verses, which overlap into eachother. the audio signal from the first verse now compresses the audio of the second verse and so the second one is way to quiet while overlapping. what can i do against this issue except for placing all the effects on the verses themselves and not the group?

      Seems like you either need to add a vocal rider/automation to the vocals to level them before they hit the compressor, or gain stage properly and lower the volume of he audio signal from the first verse
