I have a question. On the tracking when he adjusts the effects ( delays reverb) I’m assuming he copy’s them down to the lead vocal track also? And if you don’t have a pre just a usb interface. You would just pick and Eq and compressor plug-in?

I’m told everywhere that vocals should be mono and they come mono on my end. It makes me curious what it means to have vocals in stereo format ?
The vocal signals are still mono, but the vocal track itself was probably received stereo from the recording engineer, or there’s a stereo plugin on the vocal track that turned it into a stereo track. Hope it makes sense

This is an example of polishing sh*t. If you have a bad recording, you could potentially have a decent result, but it won't be perfect. This recording has so much room tone captured and would need to be masked to be less apparent...but that processing also affects the main vocal. All in all, invest in your performances...it'll be worth it in the end.

The beat is empty and for that reason a vocalist can easily lay down their own melodic ideas. That is why a singer will pick a beat you put barely any effort into and pass over the masterpiece.

why does he put the de-esser after the compressor? i thought you would normally use the de-esser first so the compresser doesn't bring out the harshness?

To Control the esses a little more after compression. Compression can make the esses louder

Inserts are active during recording but they're not printed on the track. You can adjust or turn them off anytime.

A lot of producers on the come up just want it to be a set it and go type of work. But the more you know the better. Don’t jump for the opportunity for a half price plug-in that does the exact same stuff that your daw does
anything sounds like shit when you boost it 30db guys - dont overdo this kind of thing (especially solo)
