Are you a talented artist looking for a trustworthy mixer to work with? Great mixing/mastering results come from years of experience. You can book a session with me right now at:

I take a look at alex tumay and his goto vocal chain. alex tumay is a mixer who has mixed for young thug, gunna, polo g, and many of todays major rap acts. In the video I will show you how alex tumay mixes vocals and the alex tumay vocal chain for mixing these artists like young thug and gunna. - Фільми й анімація
I think many people forget these vocals are more than likely running through out board gear before it even touches the daw. These vocals really didn’t need too much signal processing. Guys like us might have to do bigger and broader steps to get to a good place.
faxx
i copy his vocal chain last year and mine sounds better
actually you can find a video of a stream of him mixing vocals recorded with an iPhone and he kept the exact same vocal chain, it's all about the ears and listening system
Just a preamp and comp
We actually think that these vocals run through some great out board gears but it’s only 3 gears( compressor/ preamp/ EQ), the things is, if all of them are used. There is actually nothing too big about gear but Recording and performance is hands down the place to improve in music production.
dude! You're a legend. thankyou for the working you do summarising this. I'm sure it takes hours of time ... just letting you know its appreciated. salute
Glad it helped!
keep it up bruh, u helping the community 4real, I aprecciate that
I like how he gets a great presence by slightly boosting a bit of the low end In the vocal
Thanks for this brother
Thanks for this :)
SO GOOD 🤝
you are awesome George
this one bangs brother, great video
Thanks!
Appreciate you
I just wanna thank u for existing bro 🙏🏼 pls never stop this shit
Thank you for existing this is a huge info bro
great vid
The presets are not gonna make y'all pros 😂 BUT the philosophy behind why he uses things will help tremendously!
Facts
Every vocal is different, do what sounds best for your vocals !!
Facts
GREAT VIDEOS BRO, KEEP IT UP! LOVE WATCHING THIS SHIT
You have one of the best mixing/producing channels in the whole of UA-cam!
Thanks
The whole hip hop community uses somewhat of this man's vocal chain.
fr his template also is what alot of templates are based off of
I mean yea, you think about the fact he works with almost all the current artists in Atlanta.....atl pretty much runs hip hop rn
Having mixed multiple television and film tracks for huge commercials and worked on multimillion dollar ad campaigns, I can tell you turning off analog is not always smart. It depends on the plugin. Some plugins add white noise, but a lot of plugins have non linearities and harmonics that you're turning off.
These videos are ok just cuz u can see that it's not rocket science even for people who are successful (whether they know what they're doing in many cases is honestly questionable).
In the end u need to use your ears, but the formula is not that complicated. Eq, multiple rounds of compression, eq again to compensate, de-essing, bit of widening, effects verb delay etc.
There's no magic chain, no magic hardware, no magic process. Clean recording in a treated room, good eq choices, and multiple layers of (multiplicitive) compression, and subtle fx is gonna get you there.
very well done video Alex's approach to Eq is dope im gonna try and implement this in my own mixing also wanna try the subtle flanger
Dont sweep eq, its not a good technique
@@avepe6094 not even to identify harsh frequencies and subtract them
agree
@@avepe6094 who wouldn’t it be a good technique
Goat 🐐🐐
at the end he's using a group bus for flanger ect, not an aux track. big difference there!
They’re actually not lmao, ones a square the others a rectangle, but they’re both rectangles
@@ivy7309 but you can see that the lead vocals are sent to the "All Vox" bus via the right side routing, not the send faders. plus 3% on a flanger send would cause major phasing issues..
Underrated channel only one on UA-cam that doesn’t cap
I’ll take your word for it
cap
@@Weaverbeats 💀💀
At the end of the videos you should really do a recap of what we learned today instead of ending it
headphone model pls?
Great videos. When you say they go straight into ProTools you never describe how it goes through the interface. Does the interface have gain on the line channel? is the channel bypassed? etc.
there's a class where Tumay says he tries to use different plugins for every session.
it's to explore new sounds and stay up to date with new plugins. you never know what
the next big thing is going to be.
I agree but I'm assuming his thought process is still the same
@@dreamlandbit7301 yeah. definitely. a rap vocal chain usually goes like this: clean up>compression/dynamic control> top end and saturation> limiter/max volume
Or remain independent and consistent with a signature professional sound
Tumay does do a lot of experimentation especially with acoustica plugins. There was a clip in one of his stream were he talked about consistency as a basis for experimentation
🅿️🅿️🅿️🅿️
Does anyone know what happened to his streams? Did he just get bored of it?
He got too busy is the main reason he sites not streaming. He also made a big move out of his studio. He said he will return but keeps putting it off.
@@georgetmusic thanks! That would be so nice... I learned so much in his streams man
CLA CLA CLA VOCALS!!!!!!!!!😅😂😂
CLA
Anyone know about the second spot he deesses?
How does he mix distorted vocals, those waves are too big
!previous
???
Do Jaycen joshua template
I want to do it as project. I need MWTM subscription first tho lmao
Quality content as usual 🔥 but my god the song he’s mixing around 1:56 is horrendous 🤣
Yes I would have entered the booth like no fr STOP 😅
Is that a Childish Gambino song?
Who?
That's not really a Vocal chain ,a vocal chain starts a good mic + room /Preamp /comp 80 % of the sound ,stuff you can't see on a YT video
alex tumay pp
😉
Didn’t really understand the Ensemble n Flange
He blends in ensemble and flanger at
300hz for presence? LOL
This man doesn't seem like someone to really base off... sweeping for resonances with a 25db boost... no wonder he ends up with those excessive ass eq curves
Alex acts like he's a keep real guy! but, look at his studio you'll see the hardware ..What do you think its just collecting dust?
The studio pic is from his new studio. These streams were done before he moved to the new studio. He didn’t use hardware in these stream mixesp
Also all the stuff he was mixing on stream were from smaller artist who didn’t have any of that stuff
He even mixed stuff recorded with an iPhone and it STILL sounded good
He did mention in a Pensado’s Place interview a couple years back that while he loves the Maag EQ4, the HW version he’d had for quite some time had “never been used” bc he’d been using the PA software emu. 😂
It aint just noise, its fucking emulation of the hardware harmonics man, that good dist u dig, u just gotta choose wich one do you want, and gate the vocal
No, its usually just noise added to emulate electronic hum.
FIRST F
I appreciate your work, but I don't like what people do with it. Just mindlessly copying peoples vocals chains will not make you a good engineer, nor will it help you understand what you're doing.
Yes this is 100% true. The goal of these videos is help people incorporate this stuff into their own workflows
That’s a negative assumption on your part
@@realspitter2727 there is no reason at all to care about his vocal chain. what's more interesting is how he approaches a mix. people just want to copy engineers stuff
I agree, more important to learn the general principles rather than copy each setting knob for knob. Different mixes will require different tools, techniques, etc
1:40 gives me hope that was awful rapping
Lol student1 aint even that bad bro u trip
@@kbmadethatshit6364 no it was ass
the rapper at 2 min mark is so corny
1:35 this song that plays throughout is genuinely one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard
could it be that he also uses hardware Pultec and 1176 STOP misleading ppl! You are not achieving that in the box....FACTS you can come close
He doesn’t use those in these streams
He’s said he’s never used an 1176 and almost everything he mixed on stream was from people with very basic recording set ups
delete this before it’s too late brooo
given away all the sauce
There enough room at the table?
ua-cam.com/channels/SLZI9n-Aq4bZ4LcxLUWcjQ.html
WTF is nobody Alex Tumays - a crappy video of a video in LoRes, and crappy music? WTF....They need to stop letting hobbyists make music, and then UA-camrs make videos about them...lol...
