Glad I found this video. About to start my first radiator replacement on my 2001 WJ and your video shows the process so clearly. Here's hoping the transmission lines don't give me trouble haha
Great work at making a very difficult job on a WJ look so easy. I have done a few radiator changes and I cannot tell how much easier it is with the driver (and an assistant). Keep up the good work. P.S. Love General's license plate.
Thanks Brother! it only felt easy because we planned on painting the bumpers off the Jeep anyway. .. had it not been planned it may have been more stressful
Thanks for the fun video. My '03 Grand Cherokee needs a radiator. The local garage wants $769 to do the job. That's crazy, considering I can buy a lifetime radiator for under 100 bucks, and do it myself. After watching other videos, some mechanics have successfully done the job without removing the headlights, grille or bumper.
My 2004 WJ radiator just failed at the same area. Neck inlet actually broke off. Just ordered an all aluminum radiator for my jeep and preparing for work🤓
Sweet vid man! I just needed to replace my header panel. All the pastic seems to be cracking in my 2002 WJ limited. The bumpers do vary on the WJs and mine is the integrated grill, argh. But this video still helped. Thanks
that's Brad! it was "in his mother's name" and "because of Covid" the retitling was slowed... now it was sent to his mother's "old address" on and on and on... I'll just bypass the PO when I'm ready. lol
Now I have always put the fan and trans lines on before putting rad in the vehicle and installing it as a unit. Do you think it is easier to do them one at a time?
I don't think it matters if you have the whole nose off but I think you gotta put it on first and install it as a unit if your gonna jimmy jam them out without taking off the front. I have you guys a shout in part 2 because your vid is so good and so different. 💪
Just got and 04 Grand Cherokee Trail rated all wheel drive 4.7 H.O. same color as his . I hope the transmission didn't die from the leaking lines . Can't wait to see the next video on the WJ .
Great video. Question how do you drain your coolant from your engine block? I assume If you just open up the radiator bottom valve coolant is still left in engine block and heater core. Thx
That is correct, there will be residual fluid in the block. if you dont want to flush it out with a hose there is a square drain plug on the block behind the drivers side motor mount. they are hard to see as they are usually camouflaged by oil dirt and grease
Nice job Big D.That radiator had definitely seen better days. The one in my 2003 Ram just gave up the ghost too.17yrs on a radiator with plastic end caps is not T bad.....
Those threaded pieces that screw into the radiator for the transmission lines. Do you just tighten them all the way down into the radiator and then tighten the lock nut onto it, and then screw the line fitting onto the threaded piece?
Question! On the passenger side there’s a plug next to the headlight assembly plug but longer and shaped differently , mines black and yellow and I cant remember what it goes to!
01 WJ V8 This video besides being fun to watch is straight archival. Seriously. I am using it to reconstruct my grill and primarily useful is the bright sunlight which clearly shows all details of the front fender/header headlights etc.... Thank you. From your accent I'm guessing Ya'll are from Northern Alabama?
@@ProjectDanH there's more?! I'll check them out. You guys appear to have too much of a good time. Your teamwork is great. It's obvious you have great trust in one another
What kind of radiator is this,? my lines were rusted on. So I planned on getting new ones. I cut it off then twisted it off with the fitting attached. Bad idea- the internal trans radiator fell to the bottom. Just getting a new one at this point.
Thanks for the video Dan. Have this same Jeep…bought from father in law. Overheated and mechanic told me lifters are bad. Also have radiator leak…like your video. We have the e fan off but no time to check the relay. Debating to just get rid of but we have some money in a lift kit and new rims and tires. I know you haven’t seen the Jeep but would appreciate your opinion on keeping.
If it's a 4.0 keep it. give it an oil flish. Use rotella oil with zinc to lube the lifters.. also try ristlone.. great additive to help quiet lifters.. radiators are not too hard to fix... and while your doing the rad you can give it a new fan relay (under the passenger headlight) Give it some TLC and you'll be fine!
I'm looking at upgrading my much-loved XJ for a WJ, because it's a better platform for my needs (room, no y-link, comfy ride, not loud AF), and rather enjoying how easily it comes apart.
Do you have a part number for those $22 upper and lower trans hard lines? All I can find is the full line from rad to trans, and they are like 100 bucks each!
sorry I don't, I called advance auto and spoke with them right before I "fixed" mine. I believe they are a universal size you may be able to make a custom line.
Alright thanks. Mine are leaking and I tightened them up ,but they started leaking again a few weeks later. Is there an O-ring I could replace where the lines mount to the radiator?
Hello, how are you? Again asking questions ..I still watch your videos, very good with all the information. My question is that xj tend to warm up a lot of the engine, you did something to solve that problem you changed something fan radiator or something to solve the problem or which is the secret. And thank you for sharing your videos with all of us very good . Saludos y paz ✌️
I love any 4.0 I6. if the vehicle is a clean rust free keeper then make your oil changes a priority (use rotella T5). And make sure it's always got enough coolant. Everything else comes second hand. God bless
I split a WJ upper trans line at the rad without realizing it doing this very job. Got 20 minutes from home before she gave up the goods... Not fun bud
Perfect timing Dan, I’ve been binge watching (again) all your Jeep project videos and just ran out of content!
haha! thanks bro! stay tuned for part 2!
Glad I found this video. About to start my first radiator replacement on my 2001 WJ and your video shows the process so clearly. Here's hoping the transmission lines don't give me trouble haha

Brilliantely done 👍🫵✌️✊
Thank you!! 🙏
That’s wild to see a WJ from my home state all the way up north. Roll Tide, Dan.
Believe it or not, I have a lot of family in Huntsville! Roll Tide💪
Nice weather always helps to work outside.......NICE Video
You got that right! Thanks Bro!
Good Job man... Keep up the WJ videos.
Thanks! Will do!
I just did my radiator I have the 4.0. anyway I removed the fan and radiator as one this saved me a lot of frustration.
Smart!
Keep up the great work Mr. Jeep
Thanks Tommy!! will do!

Aluminum is Awesome! Good speed

I think this was a just a regular factory radiator
Bonjour, merci pour ce tuto 😉j'ai mon radiateur sur mon wj 4l qui est percé. Je l'ai payer en France 160 euros . Manque plus qu'à démonter tout ça. 😉

as always dan great vid dan could u please tell me what other kinds of rims that will fit my 1996 xj cherokee sport thank u and god blessu and family
thanks Ricky! anything 5x4.5 bolt pattern. heck, even 1995 cobra R Mustang rims will fit 😉
94-98 ZJ wheels or wrangler wheels 97-04 but the 98 ZJ limited wheels look good on a XJ .
I'm looking at upgrading my much-loved XJ for a WJ, because it's a better platform for my needs (room, no y-link, comfy ride, not loud AF), and rather enjoying how easily it comes apart.
I highly recommend a WJ as a Daily Driver. Never get rid of the XJ!

yes.. definitely a great learning experience tho!

Thanks 👍

@@codyharder6390 no, I don't think so. I didn't recall any o rings on the trans lines when just did them on the 4.7
Nice job
Thank you! Cheers!
Oh man I hope that didnt do any damage 42RE's do not handle low fluid very well
Lol.. she's ok now 😁
Once you drive the car the leak will appear again. The coolant system needs to be under load. Great video guys.
thanks Cake! I think the new rad will do the trick 😉
Hey Dan can you do a video on how to remove the rear bumper off a xj
sure!
Great viewing as always. Do the WJs seem to cool the 4.0 better with the electric fan setup vs the XJ?
OMG bro, the WJ e fan is a beast!!! it's like twice the size
Which car is this rear steel wheel??
My cousins WJ. it had a donut on it so I got him WK wheels 🤣

thank you! 💪 no, no cooling mods. my cooling system is stock, but well maintained.
How do you feel about the 2004 special edition 4.06 cylinder I want to restore her how much should I be saving her on a Minimum wage income

I removed my radiator without removing anything on the front end?
Nice!
How I've been trying to find a video of this process but have been unsuccessful. Really hoping I don't have to take the front end of my Jeep apart.
No but I’ve had a t 1000 heater core....thank god...lol
LMAO!! of all the T1000 parts, a heater core would be my preference!!
Is taking the whole dash out of a tj easy cuz I think that’s where it’s at..? Thanks..🦅

Those pesky trans lines all ways giving you trouble, but you always win in the long run.
lol! you know it buddy
Why you took.the headlights outs and the bumper is beyond me.
So ya'll can see.. plus we painted it
