- I finally had enough of replacing front end suspension and steering components little by little. We got our hands on every part number that can be replaced in the front end of a solid front axle Jeep, and put them in all at once! The vehicle in this video was a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, but this process would be the same for just about any vehicle with a solid front axle... it might even cure the death wobble this Jeep has been getting now and again..

So I bought new tires for my 2000 WJ and my mechanic pointed out everything that my jeep needed to pass Pa State Inspection. I didn't just replace the parts, I UP-GRADED. Iron Rock Off road Premium 4" lift front and back, all aluminum radiator, New hoses, every single brake line, trans lines, Gas lines, Filters, Gas Tank Skid Plate by AOR, Doug Thorley headers, spring isolators, engine mounts, head lights, hood and rear hatch struts, oil pan and more. All just so I wouldn't have to waste new tires. So I totally understand. LOVED JEEPS NEVER DIE.
This was thoroughly enjoyable! I stopped watching for instructions to do this myself, as I have concluded I'm not doing all that work on a 20+ yr old car DIY. I did continue to watch from then on just purely for entertainment purposes. Much love for your future endeavors!

having done ball joints, track bars, control arms, and tie rods in both my XJ and my ZJ, plus front and rear shocks and springs in the XJ all over the last year, I do NOT envy a guy trying to go at this without an impact, ball joint press, and puller set. I can't imagine doing this job without them!

It doesn't happen often but I love getting new stuff for my Jeep! I mostly love it when as soon as a new part touches my Jeep, no matter how much it cost, it loses all its value instantly! I hope your Jeep drives smooth and straight and if not just turn the stereo up louder👌

I haven't bought brand new tires in 20 years until this year when I got my 98 ZJ. 31' BF Goodrich AT K02's $702 mounted, balanced out the door. Keep up these great videos for sure and more Barney the ZJ vids please! Have great Christmas y'all!!

Similarly, i just gave the XJ new brakes, tie rod ends, drag link, control arms, sway bar bushings, and a front end alignment in preparation for brand new BFGs. Incredible transformation in the steering and ride quality. I hope the WJ reacted the same after all these parts went on.

I’ve used the gold colored staples, that come in heavy card board parts boxes, for cotter keys and they work surprisingly well 😂

I hear ya, wanted to get both front & rear done before winter, LOL THAT DID'NT HAPPEN. Put about a $1300 hundred into it including tires on my stock ZJ. Still have parts sitting here waiting to be put on but it probably won't happen till spring ? Also spent about a grand in tools to make my Jeep fixing easier.
Just had the death wobble start the other day. Had my wife turn the wheel while I was under there and found the track bar bushings worn out. Replaced that, no more wobble when hitting potholes.

I just did most of what you did. Alot of my parts were toast. I was getting a lot of death wobble. After replacing my ball joints it cured about 90% of the wobble at around 53-57mph. I still have a slight wobble, same speed. Last task are driver side upper-lower ball joints and track bar. I didn't realize how bad these parts were until I did a 3 inch budget boost. After putting the budget boost in it's stressed out a lot of the parts.
Nice work. I've had the tie rod ends replaced on my WJ, new shocks, pads and calipers ( always keep an eye out for seizing calipers ), muffler, upper and lower ball joints on the front end, both hub assemblies on the front, water pump, serpentine belt, radiator, and a partridge in a pear tree all in the last year. Gotta love the WJ's! Lol. BUT...... I still need to replace those darn spring isolators and control arms as well before moving to the rear of the Jeep for more work. I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ Laredo with the 4.0 inline Six. 138,000 miles. She should run for many, many more years to come.

Really like this series my guy. I'm from NJ and work on my 4.0L '04 WJ constantly. I've done my steering stabilizer, shocks, and sway bar end links so far. Next up is front upper & lower control arms and my track bar. Just wish it wasnt my daily driver or I'd do it all at once like you! Lol

I replaced the suspension on my WJ a few years ago by myself. The control arms were tough, but its lookin good now!
For anyone wondering about tires, I bought a set of 32” Milestar Patagonia M/T’s for my 04 WJ about a month ago and absolutely love them. Great road manners, awesome off road and they were only $650 brand new. Highly recommend them.

I usually do CV axles and hubs as a general front end refresh
Good thing to do while you got it all apart anyhow, cause you know how things go, a few days or weeks after tearing apart the whole front end and rebuilding it, that CV axle and/or hub is going to go oh hell no you ignored me I'm gonna break now LOL.

You really lucked out on the axle side bolt for that track bar. Those bastards rust out in the bolt snaps. Dana thought it was a good idea to weld a nut in an Inaccessible area so when you go to take the bolt out, it snaps. Sweet.
I got 3/4 of my sway bar end links done last week on my 04 WJ in about an hour and the frame side bolt on the last one (rear passenger) snapped half way thru taking it out. Took my another 2 hours to drill it out. I didn't even take the welded nut off I just bought a longer bolt and passed it thru the drill hole lol

Ngl I got a little satisfaction seeing you battle the pitman arm drag link end and track bar bolt removal. Both caused me grief but still need to buy that pickle fork...
When i bought my 01 there was a nail on the spindle nut lol. But the cv shaft behind the nail was brand new so i said I’ll take it

Right now I'm in "replace everything" hell. I just bought a 2010 jku with 214k miles. Just rebuilt the trans, and I thought "well while the transmission is off... May aswell fix up this leaky 3.8" And I've replaced literally every seal on the engine besides the head gasket. Cam plugs, front crank seal, rear main, both pan gaskets, valve covers, intake etc. Then water pump. Then I did fuel pressure regulator while the intake was off, then I said, "I should probably service the diffs while I'm at it" and I almost regret pulling the diff covers off. The rear d44 spider gears and pinion are shot and the clutches are shot so that's another 500 down the drain for a new carrier, bearings and axle seals. This turned from 600 for a rebuild kit on the trans to well over a thousand dollars in bullshit. At this point I think I might just roll it down a hill into a tree and call it a day.

Could you put the 2.5 inch spacers in when putting the springs back in without a spring compressor?
I had to do the same thing to my tierod ends ,what a pain , 2001 limited wj 4.7 L same as yours but mines black .
Sacrifice a large socket grind a slot in the side then only unhook one side slide modified socket over the tie rod end makes it way easier especially if ya have an impact
I just got a 2002 wj looking to replace front lower control arms among other things. How good is moog vs mevotch compared to autozone or oreillys.

I bought the 2004 WJ Columbia edition I have loved every minute great buy runs great its the 4.0 4x4 I bought it for camping a bit of off roading I live in AZ i dont want to go rock crawling but i want to do a bit of offroading what do you suggest i do? Should I do a lift or leave it stock, what parts should i replace just to get it a little more offroad capable beef it up a bit. Dont want to spend a second mortgage on it but I do have a couple grand to throw down. Thanks for the help and keep up the great videos.
That is basically my dream WJ! Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I might advise you leave it stock unless you really need the lift for your application

I went with some nice BFG tires from Walmart less then 100 a piece and have been goood tires even in the snow and ice on my wj

Old Man Emu makes a 1.5" HD suspension kit for the WJ that I want SO bad. new springs and stiffer sway bars. Unfortunately i cannot justify the $1200 price tag. haha

Yeah I bought a 96 Ford Bronco with a 5.8 manual 4×4 shifter on the floor with locking warn front hubs did I mention it's rust free no rear seats missing two windows in the rear and the radio doesn't work someone put a Flowmaster exhaust on it got it for 1,400 will a fresh rebuild it's ugly but runs really well

@@stonerzz1 Wish I could say that for the east coast where I am. At least I'm not in NY and up where vehicles rust just looking at them. I don't think I've ever seen a 90's bronco without half the body panels having holes the size of baseballs.
I get you man I'm from Chicago Illinois I moved out here about three years ago it's crazy vehicles that don't even exist out there are driving around 80s and 90s Styles vehicles that are just completely destroyed because the rocker panels went through the trunk Pontiacs lol crazy out here things like K5 Blazers Cherokee wagoneers Suburbans the list goes on of all these SUVs that people honestly start to avoid because of the rust and there's nothing long dead vehicles that still exist here pretty cool

I went with Mevotech. A little cheaper than Moog, but similar quality in my experience

Hey D&E I have a 1999 WJ Laredo and when it's really cold outside Maybe 20 and below you have to cycle the key 2 times and let the fuel pump prime and give it gas to start, If u don't it wont start at all sometimes I have to give it gas to start it or else it wont start in the cold, have any ideas only 147k miles 4.0 Laredo thanks
You're not actually giving it gas but giving it air by opening up the throttle plate. How's your spark plugs ? How's your air cleaner ? Check fuel pump pressure, Check Throttle body for GUNK, Clean it if needed, ALL OF IT. Taking it off is the best way to really clean everything.

@@NoWr2Run will do its 20 years old so it would make sense if it would need a good cleaning, i think the first step I'll do is clean the idle air control valve and go from there I dumped some dry gas in too so well see if it helps

You shouldn't, no.
