Excellent video. Got my radiator out in record time. I do have to tell you that there's one more bolt!! My power steering cooler lines were bolted to the radiator! That was my only hang up. It's an 8mm bolt thru a rubber coated metal strap! Now of course the lower thermostat bolt snapped and I'm dealing with that headache 🤦🏼♂️ but thanks for the video it was very helpful!!
DISCONNECTED PS HOSES AT PUMP AND COOLER ,PLUGGED HOSES WITH SPARE BOLTS AND RUBBER CAPS ,TRANS LINES ALSO , SAVES A MESS! GOOD VIDEO SAVED ME SOME TIME, THANKS !!!
Awesome video. I am a mechanic also, 13 years at the local Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep dealership. You pretty much covered everything in a nutshell, I like your style good job 👍🏻
Thanks brother! Have an 02 GC LTD 4.7L and pretty much everything has gone out on her. I've used many UA-cam vids to do repairs without problems. I WISH I watched your video 1st before doing this radiator job! I watched a couple other radiator removal videos first instead, which left A LOT of steps out, and ended up fighting with mine for THE most MISERABLE 6 hours ever AND STILL NOT DONE! I got so discouraged and contemplated giving in and having her towed to a shop. Your sequence and step by step is FANTASTIC! Gonna finish her up tomorrow. Thanks again man! 👍
Glad to see that this process doesn't require disconnecting AC lines. I wanted to avoid that at all costs and I refused to believe it couldn't be avoided. I've been going over my WJ, getting heads rebuilt (new seats included), new water pump, oil pump, motor mounts and every gasket I encounter and I was hoping I would be able to relatively easily do the radiator at another time down the road if it wasn't too crazy, and I'll be going with those 2-row all aluminum rads when I do, in addition to an electric fan conversion and rid myself the misery of the hydraulic setup. Thanks for posting and I'm with you on your style; concise instructions and no extraneous BS, that is much appreciated brother.
You saved my butt on this video! Other than the airbox chute; you covered everything and was able to get it done in a few hours. Thank you and subscribed.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for uploading this video. May have been a "quick" video for you. But, of all the ones I watched I still couldn't figure it out until I came across yours. I was able to follow every step with ease. So thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

You have no idea. I replaced mine last year about this time. It only took me about 6 hours... I didn't remove any of the hydro fan lines though and I regretted it. I wiggled it out from between the fan and the ac condenser. It was a PITA!
The radiator job on my 02 GC LTD 4.7L has got to be the worst project I've ever done on her. A miserable 6 hours in so far and still not done! I wish I watched this video first. Would've save me 4 hours!
Appreciate the note to have the hydraulic fan to remain near upright like the mounting position as to not damage the unit. Every video i've seen thus far lay these suckers horizontal. Thank you for this tip
I've done two of these now (and the job sucks)... both on different 2004 4.7l Grand Cherokees. In dealing with the hydraulic cooling fan 3 lines; I found it easier to loose the fitting on the 1) power-steering pump and for the other one on the power 2) steering box. That leaves only the spring clip hose on the 3) bottom of the hydraulic pump. I did blow off the seat point and shot a drip or two of PB on the threads several minutes before trying to break them loose. No issues getting them free and one of my WJ's is from N. Dakota and the other Wyoming, so not exactly grime free. As most of the videos say.... just be patient and don't get mad. All that will do is cost you money when you break something. Hope this strategy helps someone.
Much Respect!! Extreme appreciation for your methodology. You have saved a lot of us money, time & aggravation. Sure do enjoy Not watching every friggin thread of every friggin fitting and/or bolt being twisted on or off.
Very helpful. Done this before, a long time ago, but I forgot the clips on the bottom of the radiator that the air conditioning radiator is connected to. Thanks man!
I think that's one thing I'll let a shop do, I'd end up getting pissed off, throw tools and the job would never get done LOL. Why couldn't it be so easy like my Ford Bronco 2, that thing can be changed out in about 15-20 minutes LOL.
Hey Special thanks to this video. I had to change my Radiator today . This video saved me alot of time .thanks again for your Channel. MY 2000 Has a mechanical and electric fan.
Thank you for your video very helpful. I changed my old radiator out. But still have overheating issue. How can I trouble shot my hydrulic fan whish seem to be running on slow setting???
Great job on the video just finishing up my radiator swap and I use every every step that you had in the video and it was a flawless install and I can't thank you enough. My only question is now that I have everything back together, What's the proper way of adding the coolant and power steering fluid
So happy to hear you found this method successful. The power steering is straight forward. Make sure you turn your wheels back and forth and get the fan running to purge all the air. Make sure after it purges you add be to the fill line and check for a few days. I have a bunch of videos on adding the coolant.. a whole playlist on 4.7 cooling stuff actually. It can be a bit tricky. If you are new to the 4.7 I suggest you poke around the videos there, but definitely watch “how to bleed a radiator” as the 4.7 is unique ua-cam.com/play/PLqf45HdWbhsfYmq7YlURKHAux3AIQojlJ.html
I found it easier to remove the air box and snap out the grill remove the p/s lines at the gear box pulled the whole unit in 45 minutes reversed back together and rolling in 2 hours

I just came in from trying to do mine, I need to remove my grill as I dont have extensions. It felt like I was going to break it getting it off. Much better than any of the other videos. May do a flush before filling it. Do you ever use those coolant cleaners?
Great tutorial (utilizing for my 2004 WJ) ....however switching out the radiator came to a halt! I can't get the 2 bolts on the underside of the fan (21/18) to budge. I've been treating the bolts (WD40 then PB Blaster) along with a hammer/wrench - no go! Any suggestion??
I had this same issue today only with the 20mm line. Mine was 20 not 21 for some reason. Got it loose with an open-ended 20mm wrench and a pipe from my jack that barely fit over the wrench to use as a breaker bar.

Nice video. Just a couple of observations. If you buy a Denso radiator vs. a no-name, it will come with the M6 nut clips installed. Price is pretty close to the no-names and way cheaper than OEM. Surprising since Denso is an OEM provider. Instead of tape to mark hoses and tubes, use colored zip ties. They don't fall off when they get oily.

Good video Doug, it looks like I'm gonna have to do mine. Did you have to do anything with the mechanical fan or just leave it. Mine has both, I think yours does too.
Did a rebuild and and on the final hurdle...the high pressure steering to fan hose. Installed an aftermarket crown automotive 5019708ad part number. The high pressure inlet hose line blew right off the fitting at the fan side. Any suggestions or just a bad hose? That lock washer that secures the fitting came off too.

@@DEInTheGarage nice, looking forward to a video on that. I've read that people use the 4.0 P/S pump when they do the swap. I've thought about it for awhile on our 4.7 just worried the electric fan won't be able to keep it cool enough out on the trails
I replaced my radiator on WJ 4.7L and did not bleed it. Bleed screw would not come off. I had no problem. Just completey fill the radiator till coolant comes out. If there is air in there it should come out the top.
It's simple folks you can either do it the easy way like what he says here or you do it the way a dealership mechanic like myself will do and we take apart the entire front fascia and everything around that area and you do not damage anything yes it does take longer but if you value your jeep like I do mine ( 1999 limited ) you will do the job correctly by taking your time and taking everything apart as a Chrysler mechanic would do it at a dealership .

They make a circuit between the PS pump, PS cooler, and radiator fan
This all. But got stock on the 2 lines on the right side. They have some kind of metal ring around it. I think i. Just going to cut it off
On my girlfriend’s that I was working on there is a big skid plate on the bottom and if yours has it, it is soooo much easier to just take it off
"Let's get into it." - Ha! Too easy.
my 2000 4.7 has the mech and E fan....apparently, it has the tow package
Mine has and fan and an electric fan doni have to remove the engine fan
Well, let's hope that stop leak works!
Thanks so much for your video. I took this project on this weekend. The stop leak didn't work... I'm a 60 year old non mechanic but never one to back down. I managed to get everything done by myself only because of you. Thanks again.
Did your overlay say "she's hood and that why there is a gap there?" That's mean.
lol.... savage
Ever thing if doing a fan swap
You better believe it! I want to go to a 2004 4.7 Electric fan for sure
@@DEInTheGarage nice, looking forward to a video on that. I've read that people use the 4.0 P/S pump when they do the swap. I've thought about it for awhile on our 4.7 just worried the electric fan won't be able to keep it cool enough out on the trails
Certainly a reasonable concern. I suppose you could put a pusher fan on the other side of the radiator on a switch to use in an emergency
You should do a video on how to bleed the 4.7 cooling system. The 4.7 has a specific way to burp the system.
That is a good idea for a video.
I replaced my radiator on WJ 4.7L and did not bleed it. Bleed screw would not come off.
I had no problem. Just completey fill the radiator till coolant comes out. If there is air in there it should come out the top.
I've had multiple 04 4.7 WJ's and not one had an electric fan, always had the STUPID hydraulic one.
petcock.....isn't that a small rooster on an energy drink?
As i was editing this I realized just how many times i said the word "petcock" and realized I was making it too easy for ya. haha
Another Frank original 😂
👍
I changed one i will never do another one a pain in the royal ass
It's simple folks you can either do it the easy way like what he says here or you do it the way a dealership mechanic like myself will do and we take apart the entire front fascia and everything around that area and you do not damage anything yes it does take longer but if you value your jeep like I do mine ( 1999 limited ) you will do the job correctly by taking your time and taking everything apart as a Chrysler mechanic would do it at a dealership .
I had to stop watching when he decided not to remove the grill, it's only 2 bolts and it makes this job much easier...remove the grill people!
I heard that as "blue tape ho's." ;)
Lol.. that is another very different video ;-)
Well if your trans fluid starts leaking it’s cause you took your pliers to a rubber hose 😂
You didn't even show how you put it back in.
I'm
