I had an 02 WJ with the 4.0L that I put a new HG in due to a leak that wasn't a cracked head (so it does happen). It had 230k miles on it at the time. I kept it until 277k miles with no issues when an individual offered to buy it from me because their daughter had started driving and they needed an affordable and reliable vehicle. I've personally had 3 WJs and my family combined has had an additional 8 WJs. We still have 1 but it currently has a blown HG on it's 4.7L HO which I haven't had time to replace yet. The WJs are awesome.
I had a similar problem with my 02 Grand Cherokee 4.0. I had bad fuel injectors and needed to change them out. A few cracks had developed. My next step will be adding 4-hole injectors for a smoother start up and better fuel economy. Love how easy these things are to work on.
Hi Tyler, great video on that WJ!! I'm currently having the same issue on my '02 4.0 WJ. I keep on loosing coolant on the reservoir and its not leaking anywhere. All this happened around 4-5 months after i had the head shaved and reinstalled. I was loosing coolant that time from the block/head gasket and it was visible that time. I was hoping you would show us a picture of the actual crack on the head so that i can compare or look for similarities. Thank you!! F. Garcia.
Subscribed mate. I have had my WJ for 8 years now. Its a limited 4.7 with quadradrive. It was advertised as a great car for $4500 but a tick on the engine. The tick turned out to be a knock. I purchased it for $1200, new reco 4.7 engine, rebuilt steering box, dash out to replace broken blend doors and full quaddrive rebuild/refresh. I did all this myself. The car still drives great and I love it.
I have a 01 40 that I bought from WatchJR...I bought it for a project engine with my son - I wasn't aware of the head issue, good info! - if you need new control arms I have a full set of front and rear Moogs - bought them, and then went with adjustables.
Flame Red with the Faded White/Grey trim. That's exactly what my 2000 Laredo looks like. Mine has the Infinity upgrade with leather seats and a sunroof. It's from Arizona, sat for over seven years because of mouse/electrical damage. 100% rust free, 98k miles, runs like a dream and otherwise spotless. Has the heavy gauge gas tank cover and skid-plate option and some hideous aftermarket 15" wheels which, miraculously, do Not rub the brake calipers. Got it for free in 2016, it's now my daily driver. I love it. . . . . ok, Tyler, ya got me. Subbed. Hello from Alaska.
What are you looking for on Marketplace with regard to the 2" lift springs? Are they takeoffs from another jeep or are you looking at part numbers? What's the special sauce there? Thanks! Great content as always.
Another great WJ video. I heard noises like clatter in that 4.0L (besides the exhaust leak). What are the typical noises that a 4.0L makes and where do the noises come from? Could be a good content to explain the various noises in a separate video. Another question, do you need an adjustable trackbar when installing a 2 inch lift? Keep up the good work.
I own a 03 WJ 47 and from the north. So I spend allot of time watching wj channels wanting to keep my wj fresh as I can doing what I can myself. I drive to witchita twice a year.
I thought that style compressor would be good, but of course the one I rented from AutoZone was jammed and wouldn't turn. Had to use a couple kits of the old style. Great video Tyler!
I was able to pick up a 04 4.7l for 500$. The only code it threw was high duel pump pressure. Dropped the tank and oh boy, it was varnished and dirty. Drained and cleaned it. Waiting for the filter to come in. Already have the pump. Looking forward to finding out what else is broken 😂
Just hit 255k miles and the number 5 piston exploded putting a hole in the block it didn't sound good at all but I still drove it 20 miles home unbelievable.
Wow. I'd really like to buy one of your restores. This red jeep would be perfect. 2" lift. Nice wrangler rims...perfect. I am looking for a " stripped" larado, too. I'd want to fix the little stuff, like window switches and to do all the detailing, clean up the cladding... just as long as all the major mechanical problems were addressed. I'd be driving it home to Michigan. The ones here are all rotted out and don't have good bones to work with.
I’m from Wichita also and love your channel. I have an 04 WJ with a 4.0 and Duplicolor Charcoal Trim Paint is perfect for the cladding. Makes is look brand new from the factory!
Just saw one of your video’s about lifting a WJ. I’m going to put a Rusty’s 2.5” spring lift kit with shocks as well. I’ll be putting JK or JL 17” wheels on the Jeep. What’s the biggest tire that I can safely fit on this WJ w/o rubbing plastic or steering components?
You look tall driving these! I’m really tall too and a family friend of one of your friends… How tall can someone be in one of these WJs and still be comfortable in them??? Please let me know lol. Thanks
Is that a ZL1 on the right 😎 I love my 99 WJ limited. Both my kids drove it through HS and college. I’ve been driving it again as really a backup. But can’t help but drive it everyday. Has 276k and runs beautiful. Only thing that doesn’t work is the AC but not a big deal to me.
My 4.0 engine went out at around 100 k miles. Oil was changed every 3 k miles. I drove it 40 miles to the engine shop. We put it on the lift and drained the oil and removed the pan. The pan was full of piston parts. The shop owner couldn’t believe I drove it 40 miles to his shop. I like the 04 body style and had a new engine installed, and had a new radiator, hoses, water pump, belt, etc. also replaced. The shop painted the engine bay and other parts. I have 150 k miles on the replacement engine so far.
Lol i just went to a junk yard and saw about 30 wjs and zjs with 5.2s and 4.7s and i think i saw 2 inline 6 grand cherokees that had been wrecked. And the inline 6's arent marked. Anyways like the other guy said get your eyes checked
@@BUDDYSHADOW thats really a shame that the other one blew up ive never seen that happen to a well maintained one good luck with the newer motor it sounds like its running good though
The 4.0 is a lot easier to maintain and a lot more reliable but thw 4.7s are pretty good and they makw about 40 or 50 more horse power than an inline 6 so its basically your choice of reliability or extra power
True lol i always pay attention to the temp gauge after one of my fans went out and i didnt realize till i looked down and my cjecl gauges light was on and the motor was 260 degress luckily it was alright

Betcha the fuel filter was never changed 😅
I love these Jeep rescue videos. This is going to look and run great after the Tyler makeover.
I'm loving that spring compressor.

Add zinc to oil zppd
Piston slap is something you hear alot in a 4.0
Very informative. I was just gifted a 04 Grand Cherokee. It’s got a similar lift. Now I know what to look for what else needs to be replaced.

As a Wj fanatic, I love these videos!
Thanks for the view!

Darn that is sad but 255k is a long life! Thanks for the view!
It's usually the heads that go bad. If the top end is replaced when it starts making noise it's probably fine

Yes they are getting harder to find not rusted out!
have had 2005-16 grand cherokees past 6 years Think its time to get back into a WJ been a long time use to work on these alot.
Thanks Tyler for sharing another fun Jeep video!!! 👍👍🙂

A 245/70R17 or a 255/70R17 fit really well with a 2in lift on a WJ. Thanks for the view!
I love the red, 2" lift and the Wrangler wheels. Looks great.
They always looks really good with the wrangler wheels! Thanks for the view!

Propane torch to the plastic with quick passes will bring the oil out of the plastic and it will look new again.
What a fun & entertaining video and it looks to be a great purchase too, a really nice looking WJ! 👍
how do you keep your garage floor so clean ??
Is that a ZL1 on the right 😎

Yes! It is my ZL1 1LE track car that hopefully gets to come out soon!
@@TylerPotter VERY Nice!! Best definition of an all around beast of a machine! Collector the day it rolled off the assembly line! 😎👍🏼
How do you fix all the electrical issues?
Wish I was that skilled. Someday I’ll get there. Great work! I Enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the view!
What size tires are the ones you put on
This one had 245/75R17. Thanks for the view!
Can you come to TN and rescue my WJ? 😂😅😂
Its funny, I visit the local wreckers often and all I ever see is 4.0's never an v8's and all I ever seen driving around have v8s...
You need glasses then.
The 4.7L V8s are incredibly unreliable. The 5.2L before were 100 times better. This guy is high.

So which engine is really better for mixed on/off road use, the 4.0 or 4.7??
A lot of people think the 4.0.
Nobody knows!
The 4.0 is a lot easier to maintain and a lot more reliable but thw 4.7s are pretty good and they makw about 40 or 50 more horse power than an inline 6 so its basically your choice of reliability or extra power
4.0 are great, until they overheat....
True lol i always pay attention to the temp gauge after one of my fans went out and i didnt realize till i looked down and my cjecl gauges light was on and the motor was 260 degress luckily it was alright
Can you go cheap... clean and weld that part??? just asking lol
I'm sure a real machine shop could repair it. Some of the 4.0 heads you buy from the auto parts stores are repaired welded heads
@@TylerPotter exactly what I thought. God bless you man
Hard to kill a 4.0 if properly maintained.
That is true! Thanks for the view!
Haha, I live in Lincoln, Nebraska
CAN YOU CAM TI ARISONA AND RASCU MY 7 JEPS .🧐🐎🐎🐎🐴

Why do you talk exactly like Hoovie??
That Kansas accent?
