INXS really deserves a lot of credit for blending different styles of music to make irresistible ear candy! Even the greatest front men were in awe of Michael Hutchence, the man was born for this!
INXS was huge and an incredible live band. Michael Hutchence was the Jim Morrison of the 80s. A quintessential front man in terms of charisma and sex appeal. They've got an extensive catalog of hit songs, all well worth a listen.
They had everything going on . Funck , rock , charismatic front man the girls loved , very catchy guitar riffs and the band members were all multi talented . Because they came threw the pub scenes they had to be good live . Their Wembley concert performance was some of the best live music ever , particularly Suicide Blond . It was a musical tragedy when Michal passed , many Aussies still mourn him today .
Guys the song sounded like it didn't end because it wasn't fully over. It leads DIRECTLY into "Mediate" which uses the same music as "Need You Tonight". "Mediate" is an extension of this song. Plus, watch the videos!
Mystify: Michael Hutchence This is a great yet heartbreaking documentary. Last time I watched, a few months ago, it was free on UA-cam. Absolutely worth watching. And trust me, this song still holds up on 2023. If Michael Hutchence were still alive today & sang this song to any woman, they'd be putty in his hands. He will always remain sexy as hell.
Michael Hutchence (vocals) of INXS was one of the iconic 80's singers - he was definitely the superstar of INXS... Unfortunately, the 90's dampened their career a bit as an 80's pop rock band and they were taken for granted in their last years. Michael Hutchence finished a solo album in 1997 after the INXS album 'Elegantly wasted'... He tragically took his own life late in '97 (R.I.P.) The live concert 'Live baby live' by INXS showed the talent & charisma of Michael Hutchence onstage... filmed at the height of their career. The band was never able to replace their irreplaceable frontman after '97.
There are so many other brilliant songs they had, even on this album: sweet sensation, guns in the sky, devil inside, never tear us apart, mystify. Amazing album.
Man, when their album Kick came out, that album was EVERYWHERE. It hit about the time i was watching MTV a lot and they were on the pulse of pop music. They have a ton of killer songs. I only own a hits cd of theirs, but I love giving it a spin. I'd recommend checking out: Suicide Blonde, Devil Inside, New Sensation, What You Need....
I'm 40 years old. it took my entire life to warm up to this song. every time I heard it, I felt like it was slowly wearing me down more and more until I finally was like...damn what a banger.
An Aussie institution. Definitely check out their tracks "New Sensation" and "What You Need" from their live concert at Wembley in 91. INXS's music is iconic, but it's their live performances that stood them out to me back in the 80's & 90's.
INXS was universally loved by the females in my house 😂. My mom always loved them and my sister and I are still listening to them 35+ years later. I was 15 when Michael Hutchence died and I remember being devastated when I heard it on the news.
Wow, I'm speechless. I was literally thinking about how you guys need to react to some INXS about 3 hrs ago. As of commenting, the video was dropped 3 hours ago. I'm a happy man.
I love the band. I love so many of their songs! The world lost an incredible talent when the frontman Michael Hutchence died. 😥 The correct pronunciation of the band name is "In Excess". Good job on the review.
Say, In Excess and that is how you say INXS! Micheal Hutchence was an incredible frontman, incredible vocalist he had charisma for days, he had the it factor! You guys should checkout a live performance from Wembley Stadium show, it was a professional recorded show at there height of success they had a fantastic live band with Micheal killing as a performing! He didn’t have to try and be sexy, he just was sexy!🔥🙌🙌🙌🙌
@ehrichweiss Wrong. It was sui*ide. Two major situations played into it, he had been drinking and had several different prescriptions drugs near him. There was a very intense, heated situation involving his daughter, Tiger Lily, that he had with his girlfriend, Paula Yates. Her ex-husband, Bob Geldof, was trying to get custody of her. Michael was trying to get Paula and Tiger Lily to see him in Syndey. Shortly before he died, Paula told him they weren't coming because Bob was refusing to let Tiger go with her. He hated Bob and was terrified and depressed about possibly losing his daughter to him. He called Bob and left him an angry, threatening message that night. On top of this, the band said he changed after he suffered a severe head injury. He became very aggressive, his mental health declined, he lost his senses of taste and smell and was being prescribed all sorts of drugs that were making it worse. Anyone who says it wasn't suic*de knows nothing about his life and just wants to spread a salacious rumor.
@dream_in_digital correct. I always thought it was a trip that the guy that played pink in the movie Pink Floyd The Wall was with his ex. I think he had alot to do with him not seeing his daughter. But in a way he was in the right because he was messed up on drugs.
@alexanderflores4523 @dream_in_digital Bob Geldof did get custody of Tiger after both parents died, but he had no say when Michael and Paula were alive. The issue was the custody battle for his 3 girls with Paula. Paula wanted to to spend a couple of months in Australia with Michael and ALL four of her girls, not just Tiger. Bob obviously wanted his girls with him or at least not gone for so long. Paula was free to go to Australia with Tiger to be with Michael, but she didn't want to be separated from her other girls. Michael not being able to see his daughter, in addition to drinking, drugs, and brain lesions on his frontal lobe caused his mind to spiral that night.
What's great about this song, and the band, is that each musician understands the assignment. A lot of musicians get really busy with parts and even though they make it work, there's something about a musician who can leave space in their part, making less more. Each part comes in and out with great timing, making the song breathe and funk.
This is an all time classic, INXS is so wildly underrated. Check out suicide blonde, the stairs, listen like thieves. Also, you should do Mediate, the sister song of “need you tonight”
You guys should check out never tear us apart. The atmosphere is so heavy, and it was probably one of the best representations of Michael’s vocal range. Plus the saxophone solo is phenomenal.
Thanks for posting on Michael's birthday! I have all their albums. This was fun but this is one song where you'd get the real vibe Michael had in person from the video. I can see him in my head. ❤
Im an Australian LIV fan. Have loved INXS since about '85. My favourite album is Listen Like Thieves. Incredible frontman with the lot - voice, charisma, stage presence and sex appeal. Gone too soon. The band are incredible too.
First big concert for me as a 15 year old, INXS was excellent. I can’t forget how many women were at the event. Michael Hutchens, brought them in by the bus load.
They were big when I was around 14-18yo. I knew their songs, but never got into them too much. Glad I can appreciate their music now that I’m gonna be 50.
They should be in the US Rock and Roll hall of fame. There are so many elements that make you want to air drum or air guitar. For me it's the cymbal crashes before Hutchence says I need you tonight. An oldie but a goodie.
its pronounced IN EXCESS. And they were a GREAT band. Nobody had stage presence like Michael Hutchence. R.I.P. THIS SONG IS FIRE!!!! THE WHOLE ALBUM HAD GREAT GROOVE. LIFETIME PLAYLIST DWELLER
This song was so fun on the dancefloor back in the day. INXS's earlier albums, like Shabooh Shoobah and The Swing are full of great, catchy songs from the '80s new wave period.
Check out Mediate and Devil inside. Also, Pet shop boys west end girls, and Depeche mode enjoy the silence. Need you tonight is a classic, it still sounds amazing after all these years.
Yep. When my wife and I first started dating we were dancing to this and I sang along to it in her ear. She told me she had never been turned on so hard in her life.
Man when INXS is good, they're goddamn GREAT. Really really great singles band. Not to take away from their albums, it's just the powers that be chose their singles from their records impeccably. Michael was a hell of a front man too.
Gotta do suicide blonde!! Either that or new sensation or what you need live from Wembley will show you the charisma. Also this song is just a great party banger can’t deny it
IDK about all that my friend. "Never Tear Us Apart" may not have charged as high as this or that song by INXS back in the day. But, that tune is still the most popular viewed music video on INXS UA-cam channel today. And, the days of INXS with Michael ended almost 30 years ago. Suicide Blonde is super dynamic. You don’t understand how big they were if you didn’t live through the era. They were superstars heading for legendary status before Michael threw himself out a building in Australia
Lads, it’s a classic. And you don’t seem to get it at all: he’s the White equivalent of Prince: no woman was immune from his charms, and no man could feel entirely secure with him around, either.
INXS was huge here in Australia during the 80s and 90s. Michael Hutchence's death was a huge shock, especially the manner in which it happened. You need to also check out their cover of Good Times from The Lost Boys soundtrack.

I feel like men react to this song differently than women do. As a woman I can tell you that this song does exactly what it is supposed to do. 😅
As a man I can tell you that this song makes me dance every time. 😂
Coyote Ugly inspired a new generation 😂
They just don't feel some songs as much sometimes. I'm a man and absolutely love this one.
this song makes me approach women with a certain honest vulnerability :)
INXS is one of the most overlooked bands of the 1980s and 90’s. Their entire catalog is rock solid.
Women all over the world were in love with Michael. This guy was a natural. Great loss. RIP Michael.

Michael was incredibly charismatic- so sad he died too young. Love their music!
"Don't Change" is a great song by this band
Stellar song! I love Suicide Blonde as well!
Yes! My favorite by them.
Never tear us apart is a slow burn banger you should check it out.
Absolutely!
That sax solo towards the end. Perfect.

I think Never Tear Us Apart shows off Michael Hutchence's voice a lot better than this song

This song is, and always has been, great. It’s got a jammin’ groove and and appeals to a base instinct in a smooth, classy way.
