The way this song runs right into the song “Mediate” in the album is a perfect example of why listening to albums in order in their entirety can be such a musical journey. You guys should give the song a listen.
The first time I heard this song was on MTV and it was a double video going right into "Mediate." I just thought it was one whole song so when I heard the end of "Need You Tonight" I thought, where's the rest of it?
Rock has deep roots in classical composition, which had movements. i.e. a well made album. Seems that kind of composition has gotten lost due to the different way people listen to music. I know, different medium, Spotify and such but, we had radio back in the day and still listened to albums in full and sequence
INXS is an amazing song. "Mustify", "Don't Change", "Suicide Blonde", Beautiful Girl", "Original SIn", "Heaven Sent", . The album Kick just turned 35 years old, which is hard to believe but what an amazing album.
INXS are 🔥 Back in the day they were the best band in the world without question. So proud they are Australian, sad about Michaels death, they tried other lead singers but seriously you can’t replace Michael Hutchence.
My first car was a little red Seat Ibiza (first gen - based on a Fiat Uno). I swapped the car radio for one with a CD player and I played the INXS album "Kick" to death. For me the ultimate INXS track was always "Mystify" - lots of memories of whizzing down country lanes with the windows open and playing "Mystify" at full blast!
RIP to one of the most talented front men of the era. I remember INXS blowing up in the 80s. We had a few of their songs in our rotation while doing BMX freestyle shows.
My little sister was CRAZY for this band back in the 80's. For years, she had a thin silver bangle that Michael Hutchence had thrown out into the audience. They are great, aren't they? That interesting scratchy effect on the figure of Michael dancing (and a couple of other spots in the video) was achieved by taking the frames of the video and physically photocopying them onto paper, then rephotographing the copies to reform them as an animation, after which they layered that animation into the final video. :)
So… here are some songs by them to react to. “Good Times” with Jimmy Barnes from the movie “The Lost Boys . Do “Kiss The Dirt “, “Good & Bad Times” , “Elegantly Wasted “ & “CALLING ALL NATIONS”!
"Need You Tonight" is the song that had me purchasing their stuff. Sheer hotness set to music. Michael Hutchence was one hell of a frontman! RIP, man. I miss these dudes. Cool reaction from the both of you, yo.
I've been WAITING for you to react to this song!!! LOVE IT and INXS!! Michael Hutchence is SO GREATLY MISSED!! Keep 'em coming guys and you're doing a great job! ROCK ON!! 🔥🔥🔥
Great band. My favorite frontman. I had the pleasure of seeing INXS in concert years back. Michael Hutchence was FANTABULOUS. The way he engaged with the crowd and pulled you in. Need You Tonight/Mediate performed live was magical.
Oh my goodness, I suggested this so long ago. My favorite INXS song! RIP Michael Hutchence❤ I can still remember the first time I saw this video. I thought Michael Hutchence was one of the sexiest men I’d ever seen.
They were the greatest band in Australia at the time and they took the world by storm! It doesn't hurt that they were great musicians and that Michael Hutchence was a gifted singer and obviously very sexy !
Still plenty on the INXS awesome playlist - Beautifiul Girl (1992); Original Sin (1984); Don't Change (1982); By My Side (1990); Disappear (1990). Then if you want to see how far they evolved, have a look at 'Just Keep Walking' which was their first Australian Hit in 1980 - very punk rock.
I love seeing younger people get into INXS. It always sinks my heart when the younger generation don't know what I'm talking about. INXS is one of the reasons us older folk (Gen X here) don't like today's music so much!
I am "older folk" and I love INXS but there is also amazing music in 2024, so many great bands and artists, and using real instruments - they just aren't famous, but they have their fans, their concerts, and they make enough money to keep going 🙂....you just need to look.
Even I have to admit Michael Hutchinson had so much charisma so much sex appeal there wasn't a single woman that didn't get affected by this guy singing they knew he was one of them bad boys and that he would just leave them heartbroken the second he got done
One of the best bands of the 80's early 90's. They were amazing song writers and they combined perfectly. Michael is one of the best front men of all time. He was Australia's Jim Morrison.
This video blew people’s minds: This sort of multi-layered visual style was still done with old school optical printers and physical film splices. Needless to say it swept the MTV awards and made the band mega stars.
For your next INXS song I'd like to suggest Suicide Blonde. The title comes from another Australian singer, Kylie Minogue, who Michael Hutchence was dating at the time. She had colored her hair, and when he asked her what color is that, she said suicide blonde.
Suicide Blonde was a failed attempt at recreating the magic of NYT, imo. It's good and everything but nothing will match this. I reckon they were influenced by Prince's 'Kiss'
I'm so happy you two finally reacted to this gem! I'm 65 years old, in a wheelchair with limited mobility and in constant arthritic pain, but when this song is playing, I'm getting up and moving and grooving! It can wake the dead, I swear!
Right? My brain immediately filled in the next song. It’s like hearing the end of Sgt Pepper and your brain immediately says, “what would you do if I sang out of tune…”
Michael Hutchence was a sexy sexy boy that’s for sure. I was lucky enough to see INXS 3 times live and it was always such a great show & Michael in person is 🔥SEXY🔥. INXS is a band that will always get you in a good mood and make you want to dance. You should listen to I Send A Message (it’s super funky) and Burn For You (gorgeous love song). INXS is one of those bands that don’t really have any bad songs. 👍🏻

All of the images, hand-drawn combined with actual film images, are then cut and imposed on each other, then a picture is taken of everything, frame-by-frame, to create the finished video. Hey Kids, I am turning 60 this year. A real old lady. But we used to be so cool in the 80s and 90s, wouldn't want to be born in a different era. We WERE Cool!😂❤❤
Saw this band live 3 times in the 80s. Michael Hutchence has a stage presence like no other. Try Original Sin, Burn for You, Dancing on the Jetty. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺. 😊
Original Sin is my favorite INXS song among many great ones. Suicide Blonde, Beautiful Girl, Mediate, Disappear......I could go on and on. Lots to dig into with this group.
My favorite band of all time... so unfortunate we missed out on so much incredible music still inside this band. RIP Micheal. And can we talk about how bad ass this video was for 1987?!
That's was the INXS JAM in the late 1980s! We used to JAM to this song in the clubs! SO sad, that lead singer Michael Hutchence battled depression and aggression after a bicycle accident in the early 1990s and hung himself in 1997. Gone way too soon. The spirit of Michael's lively and soulful vocals still live on! And the song's finish....classic!
'Kick' is The Greatest Album. Sooooo good!! I'm convinced that if Michael were still alive today they would have had a MASSIVE resurgence (parents, who grew up listening to them, taking their kids to see shows) and been one of the biggest touring acts in the world.
I agree and I don't think they had a bad album in their time. They were so good prior to Kick, but that album just took them to a new level of fame. Just so good, really. No other words.
@@CryptikConstruct I’m 56 and the youngest of 7 kids. Jim Morrison died when I was 5 but my brothers listened to The Doors all the time and I love their music. When I was going to clubs in the 80’s and INXS was playing the girls were dancing and that got me interested. As far as them having similar hair, I agree with you. I’m a straight guy so I can’t speak to whether or not they have the same sex appeal. As far as attitude goes, I’ve read a lot more about Jim than Michael but I’ve always been into the music business and I’m pretty sure I would’ve heard rumors of Michael living a life anywhere close to Jim’s. The Doors chose Eddie Vedder to sing Light My Fire when they were inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and Michael didn’t die until 1997.
My favorite INXS song, and arguably their biggest hit. Check out "The One Thing", "Original Sin", "Mystify Me", and "Suicide Blonde" next. (And Jay, this is the fifth one you've done... and all have been bangers! - Devil Inside, Never Tear Us Apart, New Sensation, and What You Need.)
What a great band, and so so good live too! My suggestions for future reactions (as It's not possible to choose one) would include -'Mystify'(great Video) 'Don't Change' 'Listen like Thieves' 'The Stairs' 'Baby Don't Cry' 'Just Keep Walking'(a very early track). You have 12 studio albums to go at guys, and don't forget the Live material for example from Wembley stadium 1991 which I was luck enough to be at, 'Suicide Blonde' is a stormer, the crowd were bouncing!
Yes! This song is phenomenal! They're one of the best bands ever. They literally had it all- talent, depth, mystery, soul, fun, sass, sensuality, and they truly rocked. You guys pick such interesting songs. I love your reaction videos.
The Live Baby Live album is really good, lot of their major hits but in a live concert format and they just sound so good...band with a ton of energy that projects that high positive vibe even today
oh man. I played in an INXS tribute band for 9 years as the Michael part and was followed around after shows. Hutch had a way with the audience that’s for sure.
Probably the best-known song in the INXS library right here. Fantastic, sexy song. Meditate, which follows Need You Tonight on the album, is such a vibe, especially as a companion piece to this song. My fave INXS song, though, is Original Sin, their first big international hit. Great song with something to say.
I absolutely LOVE Michael Hutchence and INXS! This was my jam at da club back in the day! Still mourning his death after all these years. Check out Suicide Blonde for another banger!
Yes! On the album, the next song which is basically an outro to this one called “Mediate” is an amazing 2 song setup. I never listen to Need U Tonight without Mediate playing it out. 👍
LOVE INXS but as many of us have suggested, please check them out live....they are SO good live!!! anything from their Wembley concert "What you Need" "New Sensation" are fantastic...actually that whole concert is fire
Micheal Hutchinson was such a great front man. He was such a total package. I didn't even like that type of music in the late 80s early 90s but I would never turn this band off if they came on MTV or the radio.
Oh INXS! I saw them in 1986 in KC and was right next to Michael Hutchence on a catwalk. He was wearing an ripped up Clash tshirt and brown leather pants. The moment of a lifetime!
Inxs were One of The Best bands in The world, no doubt. Michael Hutchence he was The New Jim Morrison. Such a sexy and beautiful man. Such a rabbit hole. - Disappear - BY my side - Bitter tears - Heaven sent - New sensation - Suicide Blonde Just to name a fews RIP Michael, he'll never be forgotten.
One of the greatest bands. Anywhere in the world. Ever. And the album this was from, 'Kick', is still one of the best Australian albums of all time ❤ RIP Michael ❤
Back in the 80s, my sister used to think the lyrics were, "Your lips are so raw." She always thought they needed Chap-Stick. Oh, fun times. Also, the album transition from "Need You Tonight" to "Mediate" is outstanding. Mediate is a sleeper hit.
INXS was the ish back in the late 80s. Damn he is hot too. Need to make this suggestion on your newest video. Dream Theater Pull Me Under 8 minute studio version, not live. Get ready. That voice, just how technical the musicians are. So good.
I was like 7 years old, watching MTV and I didn't understand what the song was about, but I knew instantly these dudes were one of the coolest thing I ever witnessed, my mother hated me listening to it and that made me love it even more... to this day I still love INXS!
INXS prompted me to visit Perth Australia (where they're from); I love this band SO INCREDIBLY MUCH.. EACH OF THEIR ALBUM TRACKS ARE TOTALLY UNIQUE .. some bands can have the "same sound" but bands like INXS and Led Zeppelin where so effen unique.. INXS music will always be evergreen, it doesn't age. They found their own sound.. .and many have TRIED to emulate.. but haven't.
They Farris brothers met Michael Hutchence in High School in Forest Hill, New South Wales, and they formed a band. The Farris Brothers' parents moved back to Perth where they were originally from, and the band followed but were only there as a band for 8 or 9 months.. Michael Hutchence said so when asked in American Bandstand. They were mainly based in Sydney, thereafter, initially around Avalon and Whale Beach area.
O my goodness! Woo Hoo! You guys! Yes there is more you need to react too! Okay you still haven't listened to "Original Sin" "Suicide Blonde", "Don't Change", "What You Need", "Beautiful Girl" I know missing some more but at least those too you can add to your list of INXS songs to react to! So glad you are creating a list of their music! Enjoyed your reaction! ☮💕👍👏
I love love LOVE this band! So difficult to choose a "favorite" band because there are so many that are extraordinary, but INXS was the soundtrack of my life. No other band's music did/do I identify with as much, so if I HAD to pick a fave it would probably be them. LOVE their clever videos too which are just as artistically important as the songs. My fave and their most hard hitting banger is "Suicide Blond", which is a RIDE. "Disappear" is a close second. "Stairs" and "By My Side" are right up there too.
God rest that man's soul! Michael Hutchence was a FORCE! Love this band so much! On the album, thus song ends and flows into another song, "Mediate" Yall should check that out as well. This entire album is FIRE!
Inxs is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Every single one of them has so much talent and Michael was an absolute Rock Star. Only 3 of them are brothers, but the whole band was like a family. I think that made them extra special 💜
One of the best bands live! Micheal was so beautiful and talented, his fellow band members were hardworking and extremely talented too! Good times, great memories. Miss him still!
This was the first video I seen and heard from INXS it was a milestone moment for me I lifted my head up out of the head banger Rock AC/DC started partying more adult and getting into the dancing Groove of the nightclubs. It opened us up here in the US to the music of Down Under along with Men At Work and Midnight Oil who you should take a listen to if you have not already
Get into their early catalogue - Listen like thieves, Dancing on the Jetty, Kiss the dirt, Original Sin and the timeless Don't Change. From the Pubs to Stadiums they never ceased to put on great live shows.
Michael Hutchence still gives me goosebumps almost 25 years after his death.
And when he belts out "I'M LONELY!", I melt every time!! 😍😍😍

INXS is one of the defining bands of the 80s and the pioneers of music videos.
Michael Hutchence definitely had some of that Jim Morrison energy and sensuality going on.

Yes! More INXS!!!! What you need - Live from Wembley (or anything from the 'Live Baby Live' concert)
Love INXS. One of the greatest rock bands. Best songs in my opinion are 'Beautiful Girl', 'Baby Don't Cry', 'Heaven Sent' live version is amazing.
The "Kick" album was frickin awesome!
Strangest Party is my Fav INXS song
Probably the best-known song in the INXS library right here. Fantastic, sexy song. Meditate, which follows Need You Tonight on the album, is such a vibe, especially as a companion piece to this song. My fave INXS song, though, is Original Sin, their first big international hit. Great song with something to say.
The entire Swing album is a masterpiece.
@@moehio 1984 was the best year for music in recording history. 🙂
Yes, and I also love Golden Playpen, Black and White, Jan's Song, and Johnson's Aeroplane.
I was just so blessed to grow up in Australia, Aussie artists really are some of the best in the world. 🇦🇺
I was lucky enough to be showed Split Enz and then later, Crowded House as well as Midnight Oil as I was a young teen in the 80's.
Totally agree 😁
I absolutely LOVE Michael Hutchence and INXS! This was my jam at da club back in the day! Still mourning his death after all these years. Check out Suicide Blonde for another banger!
My favorite INXS song… along with Never Tear Us Apart..💛🙏🏼🦋
Yes!
On the album, the next song which is basically an outro to this one called “Mediate” is an amazing 2 song setup.
I never listen to Need U Tonight without Mediate playing it out. 👍
This is the truth!!!!
LOVE INXS but as many of us have suggested, please check them out live....they are SO good live!!! anything from their Wembley concert "What you Need" "New Sensation" are fantastic...actually that whole concert is fire
I saw them at Wembley! An Aussie living in London seeing INXS - was so cool
They've already reviewed What You Need and New Sensation.
@@AZambri1 yes I know but I think they would love to see the live versions at Wembly. they are unbelievable!
@@libbypeace68 that's amazing! It looks like the energy was out of this world!!!
Micheal Hutchinson was such a great front man. He was such a total package. I didn't even like that type of music in the late 80s early 90s but I would never turn this band off if they came on MTV or the radio.
One of my very favorite bands, so glad you got back to them. Suggestion: Elegantly Wasted. Whew, a must must hear!!!
Oh INXS! I saw them in 1986 in KC and was right next to Michael Hutchence on a catwalk. He was wearing an ripped up Clash tshirt and brown leather pants. The moment of a lifetime!
There is a second/extended part called mediate which is pretty cool. ua-cam.com/video/Pr-Vfnd7Yno/v-deo.html
Seems like he doubted he was all that. Weird, huh?
We all had a major crush on the lead singer in high school. RIP Michael
I was a kid in the 80’s this was one of my favorite songs and video. Cool funky sound nice best. Certified banger!Love the reactions!
It's worth seeing this one live too as it seamlessly moves on to "Mediate" I'm always impressed Micheal remembered the lyrics......
this song is SIZZLING HOT!!!!!..I just love it. great reaction!! and it feels so filthy dirty in such a cool way
Michael was very charismatic , women loved him
Well, he turned Kylie so yeah, they LOVED him...
Inxs were One of The Best bands in The world, no doubt. Michael Hutchence he was The New Jim Morrison. Such a sexy and beautiful man.
Such a rabbit hole.
- Disappear
- BY my side
- Bitter tears
- Heaven sent
- New sensation
- Suicide Blonde
Just to name a fews
RIP Michael, he'll never be forgotten.
most of this songs are for the next album of kick , album X
One of the greatest bands. Anywhere in the world. Ever. And the album this was from, 'Kick', is still one of the best Australian albums of all time ❤ RIP Michael ❤
FINALLY! This is their signature song, and a #1 hit. 😎
Back in the 80s, my sister used to think the lyrics were, "Your lips are so raw." She always thought they needed Chap-Stick. Oh, fun times. Also, the album transition from "Need You Tonight" to "Mediate" is outstanding. Mediate is a sleeper hit.
My favorite INXS song is title track to first album released here in the States. Song/album are
Listen Like Thieves
INXS had a varied catalogue of music . They had so much great music . One of my favourite groups .
Great Aussie band. Shine like it does, is a absolute classic
Great group, he has this Jim Morrison swagger to him, so much to choose from!
Its so nice to have other people appreciating INXS. They are so UNDERRATED. THANKS GUYS💛 I Def Rocked Out With Ya
Man I forgot how great INXS was. Did you react to their song "Mediate"? "Kiss the Dirt" was also another one of their up tempo danceable hits.
IMO, this is the best INXS song ... their most iconic song.
Their signature song as far as I'm concerned.
I think “The one thing” is the pinnacle INXS song.
Great reaction!!! My absolute favorite INXS song is Don't Change. I think you'll love it.
I LOVE that song!!!
INXS was great! Love this song! It's impossible to be still when this song is playing. lol
This album “Kick” was huge.
To get the true INXS experience…..LIVE is where it’s at!!
Remember this is 1987!!! The KICK album took the world by storm!!!
This was my JAM! Michael singing on this is just so intoxicating. Love it from the first time I heard it. Still a classic..
Get into their early catalogue - Listen like thieves, Dancing on the Jetty, Kiss the dirt, Original Sin and the timeless Don't Change.
From the Pubs to Stadiums they never ceased to put on great live shows.
"Mystify"
"Original Sin" Daryl Hall on backing vocals
"The One Thing" older song
"Burn For You"
"Dancing On The Jetty"
Too many to list
