Main song writer and singer of this song Paul Stanley once said in an interview that in the late seventies, he often went out to discos and once said to himself that "Stuff like this is easy to write" and then began writing this song. It can still be heard here in Europe on a regular basis in (rock) discos.

Priest in their all black leather, the Harley, Halford really going for it was just so kick ass. My older brother asked me why I wasn't as much into KISS since they were my favorite at the time. • @thrashandanarchy

I both love and hate this song. Such a painfully obvious attempt to try and ride the disco trend, but Ace just makes this so good. He's not the most technical player, but he just has style and swagger. I mean, who else had rigged their guitars to start smoking while they were ripping out a solo on stage while dressed in some cheesy 70s space man outfit? And while he can't sing for shit anymore, Paul had a great voice, and the guitar harmonies he and Ace put together on this one really hit good, especially right before the solo at the end. Yeah, it's cheesy, no, I don't listen to Kiss much anymore, and this is pretty low on the list, but there was a time I played this one a lot. Totally get the love and hate for this onr.

'Dynasty' (1979) and 'Unmasked' (1980) were the disco album by Kiss... They were on a disco label in the 70's - Casablanca Records, who also signed Donna Summer... Parliament Funkadelic... "I was made for loving you" was a huge international hit for Kiss in '79... but their American hard rock fanbase did not like the change. Paul Stanley (vocals & guitar) recalled that he was partying in the disco club Studio 54 back in the day and said, "Hey, I can write these kind of songs easy!" ... However, he did realize that little kids were coming w/ their parents on their 1979 tour and that did not sit well w/ their hardcore fans.
'Dynasty' had some standout songs - "Sure know something"... a cover of Rolling Stones' "2000 man" (sung by Ace Frehley)
The next album 'Unmasked' was not as successful... the disco/ new wave single 'Shandi' was not a big hit (except in Australia) and original drummer Peter Criss did not play on either record; he was fired in 1980 (Drummer Anton Fig did the studio tracks) and Criss was replaced by drummer Eric Carr... Ace Frehley sang on the tracks - 'Talk to me'... 'Two sides of the coin'...

It's kind of a revolutionary song for 1979. Desmond Child actually wrote it (or something like it) and disco was huge at the time. He wanted to write something that would be popular in clubs, but add a little R&B and Hard Rock to it. Paul Stanley used to hang out with him and they wrote this together. Gene Simmons famously hated it, but Kiss released it to capitalize on the era, touching on the dance background, but keeping it hard rock.
It became the #1 song in 23 countries within a few weeks. Gene had no complaints after that and Kiss just kept getting bigger and bigger. Desmond Child too for that matter. His career exploded after this! As soon as this was a hit, he worked with Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Cher, Alice Cooper, Joan Jett, Scorpions (many times over etc... and all the biggest hits). The guy was and still is a genius song writer & and in the songwriters hall of fame.

I lived though these days, from classic rock, to disco, to 80s. Lots of people did not like it or complained that its not another black diamond, but I always liked it. I know a lot of people that always liked it. if you were alive then hard core disco was really really bad. This song was a breath of fresh air, for the disco scene. Lots of bands added some disco sound to their playing, just like lots of bands went into 80s big hair, and into rock ballads ..... This is a classic Kiss song.

You guys are too young to have experienced it, but in the Spring and Summer of 1979 this was massive. Context is everything. In 1979 this was absolutely brilliant, and became a Top 10 hit single. It was a standout track in that era. A year later it came back to haunt them, and this hit became an albatross around their collective neck for the next 3 years. But in 1979 it was the perfect track. They turned it into a harder edged song in 1990 and reclaimed it, and the song became popular again as fans re-evaluated it and admitted that it was very, very well written and performed. It took 10 years, but the song finally won over the fans who hated it in the early 80's.
