Sadly, my favorite moment is an optional scene that is incredibly easy to miss but is great fun nonetheless. When you arrive in the first town after Faris agrees to help you can go to the inn with Bartz and Galuf to the room where Faris is staying and see a hilarious cutscene. This short but funny moment is foreshadowing for the reveal that Faris is a woman.
@Xygor Thanks for all the work you put into your videos. I just beat FFV recently and it was very emotional moment for me. I started the game when I was 12 but never beat it back then, even though I played for hours. Now as a 37 year old, I finally closed the chapter on this game and I felt overwhelmed with sadness, pride and nostalgia all at once.
As of 2023 I’ve only ever beaten FF 4 & 6 and played parts of 7 & 9 before. This year I’ve decided to play some others and I have since beaten 1 and I am in the middle of 5 now. I’m Glad I decided on 5 for my current play through as it’s getting a lot of solid coverage and reviews on UA-cam lately. Enjoying the gameplay and job system a ton and the generally light/linear story opposed to 4 and 6’s more complicated plot points and cast of characters.
Great work. Sometimes this sort of thing is what it takes. I enjoyed FF5 (especially the music) but it solidified that the even numbers are story and the odd numbers are gameplay for me in the NES/SNES eras. This was my little brother's favorite one back on the PS1 though.
Thank you Xygor for your tireless work, you’ve single-handedly gotten me to check out every single other FF game besides the original 7, and I’m a huge fan of the classic SNES titles now. I owned FF3 on SNES back in the day because everyone said it was a game to own, but I never actually played it until til now. Thank you, you can upload this video as many times as you need to my dude.
Thanks for all your work on this video. This is one of the Final Fantasy games I’ve never played. It has a really interesting story. Hope to get around to playing it sometime. 😊
My favorite Final Fantasy V moment was by far Galuf’s last stand against Exdeath. Galuf’s friends and granddaughter were in danger and so Galuf summoned all his strength to take the brunt of Exdeath’s power and committed a one man assault towards the villainous warlock. Honestly, considering that Exdeath had an enemy death animation it’s easy to say that Galuf still won the fight, even if it did cost him his life. Galuf proved why he was the king of Bal and a Dawn Warrior and went out like a chad. Even though Exdeath did kill Galuf I still felt he lost the fight regardless. Galuf saved his friends and Krile and Exdeath was beaten to the point of retreating. As for how I feel about the story, there are a lot of reasons why this game is as underrated as it is. And even though the game does fall into a few fantasy tropes (including tropes from its own respective series) I felt that it had a lot of heart despite that. Where Final Fantasy IV had a bit of a darker and heroic story which is what made the game one of the greats in the SNES library, Final Fantasy V offers something fresh with a more light toned and adventurous experience. The story isn’t as good as its predecessor but it is a great one nonetheless. Not to mention the game’s fantastic cast of characters with the three standouts being none other than Galuf the GOAT himself, Faris the tomboy and badass pirate captain and the badass and comical secondary antagonist Gilgamesh. Don’t get me wrong, I like Bartz as well. Bartz’s comedic and adventurous personality definitely helps him stand apart from his predecessors. But I felt with his father turning out to be an otherworldly being it was feeling a bit redundant from Cecil Harvey’s backstory from IV. Also Exdeath may look like a very intimidating figure and definitely has the power and difficulty as a final boss to back it up, but as a character Exdeath feels very bland with weak and rather boring motivations that don’t go beyond just him saying “I want to destroy everything because I am evil and want everything to be evil. Mwahahahahahahahaha.” I swear, he sometimes reminded me of Malekith from Thor The Dark World. Now back to the positives. The soundtrack in this game was phenomenal with its Main Theme ranking as one of my favorite ones in the series and songs like Cursed Lands, To The North Mountain, Sorrows of Parting, Library Of Ancients, The Day Will Come, and the cherry on top being Clash On The Big Bridge are among some of the best tunes I have heard from the series. If I was ranking the game’s soundtrack alone, it would get a 10/10. But sadly there are some issues I have with the game as previously stated and I also have one more complaint I need to address. Making a game hard isn’t so much of a problem as much as it is how you try to rise to the challenge. When the game does get harder (and holy crap does it do so), you essentially have to spend hours grinding for level ups to meet certain challenges which took me out of the experience a few times. Couple that with a high encounter rate that is reminiscent of the earlier NES titles during certain segments of the game and you can also feel quite overwhelmed at everything happening in the game at once. The gameplay itself however is very clean, with the active time battle system returning from FFIV. And that gives the play a well earned sense of urgency during various encounters. And the boss fights in this game are epic and some are very tough to overcome. All in all I am giving this game an 8/10. It’s a great game, it’s just flawed.
@@XygorYou’re welcome. For the record, out of all the games I have played in the series so far, this was by far one of the hardest. Final Fantasy IV was a much easier game if you ask me. How do you feel about my review of the game?
@@Xygor Can I ask you something? I found completing Final Fantasy V pretty difficult. The jobs leveling system in particular I found frustrating for its slow progression compared to the basic leveling system. I plan on playing Final Fantasy VI later this year and need to ask how complex the gameplay and progression system of that installment is.
This is actually, factually the best Final Fantasy game. Most people don't know that around these parts because of not released here. It is all int he job system why this is the best one. And FF3 on Famicom is the best 8bit one, similar job system. It sucked we did not tget this job system over here ever, except lond of FF tactics but that doesn't count.

I think this game has one of the better plots in the series. It is without a doubt my favorite game in the series. While many scenes are memorable and there is a theme of sacrifice thoughout, it's Syldra's scene that probably impacts me the most. I feel such a kinship with Faris.
@@Xygor I don’t. Played all of the numbered final fantasies through 11, and of all of them, 5 is the least memorable. Not because it’s a bad game or badly constructed, but I only played it once as opposed to many of the others I have played multiple times . I think, however after watching your video, I’m going to play it through again. Will have an update?

The job system was brand new to me, and I absolutely loved it. But yea, coming from the masterpiece that is FF6, I found FF5 to be, well, really not as good.
