      It's all so memorable! As soon as I think of one (the campfire scene), I think of another (the Mammon Machine) or another (turning off Nu Belthasar) or another (Marle's despair at finding Lavos' guiding hand in evolution). It really was the work of a dream team!

      I highly recommend downloading the "Schala Edition" version that has the proper translation and bonus content. The dialog between the Reptile King and Crono and the gang is wayyyy different. Even Ayla saying the translation of the word Lavos

      Melchoir: “I’m teaching everyone magic! Oh… Except you, cause you’re a machine. Awkward….”
      And there was something so melancholy about Robo and of course that entire time period. When I played this as a young teen in 1996, it hit me hard because most games were not interested in telling such a profound story.

I’m in my 40’s now and when my son’s reading comprehension (he’s only 4)is able to understand the game I’ll make him play it too. The game teaches you about love, ambition, sacrifice and death. Considering Marle wants nothing to do with her nobility, I concluded that it was a part of her rebellion, that the kingdom was nothing like Marle, and she hated it, and this insane trial and the king's unwillingness to listen to his daughter were related. After I learned about this connection with the change in the criminal justice system, I realize that if Marle had grown up in the evil kingdom in the alternate timeline, she likely would have become a different person. I finished my first ending a few hours ago, PC port, at 25 years old. There's no way I would've figured this game out as my kid self lol. The story is deep and goes on for ages. According to Steam I put 44 hours in just to get one ending...10+ more to go.
    The music sticks to your heart too, like a Miyazaki movie soundtrack. I can't believe this much soul and creativity went into a game that's as old as me. Action games now might have the incredible graphics and AI...but bloated with all this instant satisfaction, dopamine-hit content where you're just faffing away with weapons instead of building a story from the ground up. @@Xygor I played it last year (well 2 years ago now) during the summer for the first time. I never really grew up with the game or anything, hell the game’s older than I am. But eventually finding this game was a chain reaction of found love for JRPGs when I played Octopath Traveler’s demo a few years ago. That was the game that got me into JRPGs and eventually lead me to final fantasy and then Chrono Trigger

  • @Poz159
    @Poz159 5 років тому +34

    Chrono Trigger's story and lore is so fascinating! I love the idea of a "perfect Utopian world" that is considered to be literally and figuratively above those that are unworthy. Combine that with an ultra powerful alien bent on feeding off of the world & destroying it, along with time traveling, with each timeline having their own plights, struggles, wars, celebrations, and full-fledged story. The game combines sci-fi, fantasy, and apocalypse all into an RPG that was released nearly 25 years ago.
    The way each timeline interwoven is within each other is brilliant! Not to mention the game-play, music, side-quests, and even multiple endings?!? I wish I had this game as a kid, I first played it on a DS while traveling to California for the first time, which is a memory I'll have for the rest of my life. I know I went on a tangent, but this game is just such a masterpiece.
    How can a single game have so many elements and genres, and pull it all off so perfectly? The sheer amount of times the game blew my mind with areas and shocking reveals and the huge scope of attempting to prevent an apocalyptic end to the world, it is absolutely crazy! In one game you travel to prehistoric times, a far off past with futuristic technology mixed with magic, medieval times, modern times, and an apocalyptic dystopian future.
    Usually i'm very critical of time traveling to fix the future, as I find it an uninspiring & overdone trope, but Chrono Trigger pulls it off perfectly, and is probably the only case where I love using time traveling as a concept. Perhaps it was a pretty new concept in 1995, but I first played the game in 2010-ish, so I was so over time travel by then, and yet Chrono Trigger blew me away like no other. Kudos to everyone who worked on the game, and to Xygor Gaming for this fantastic video showcasing the complete Chrono Trigger Story! Definitely going to subscribe!

    Then I played this, bought the game... Blew my mind... Just seeing this, inspired me to want to write movies and video games... The greatest game, music, etc.. made me love RPG's, and get into it. The best, hands down.

    The entity that wanted Crono and his friends to experience all of this was... Nu. All life begins with Nu and ends with Nu. You see they play important roles throughout the story, and they would know the key events in the timeline. Did you know Spekkio's final form (when the player reaches level 99) is Nu? Think about that, it's the End of Time. I think that connects Nu to the course of history. This is the truth. This is my belief.

    The story on this game is done perfectly. Music is top tier and the game was extremely fun. Balanced levels and enemies. To me this was THE perfect JRPG of all time. Especially props to the story, time travel has been overdone and always have some weird plot hole. This was done perfectly and I love how every character is relevant. Every character has a backstory and that each side quest allows you to find closure for all the characters in the party. The whole idea that Magus was seen as this dark lord but was Janus trying to kill Lavos this whole time and Crono actually died but was saved. The fact that every time period was relevant and you have to go back and forth on all time periods throughout the game. Everything was perfect. I just wish for a modern remake of this.

    Thank you for this video. This is one of my favorite games ever. The one thing I question is the fate of Schala and Zeal in the original Lavos timeline. Her pendant is passed down through the generations, so it's reasonable to conclude she must have escaped the encounter at Ocean Palace. In the altered timeline, she uses the last of her power to teleport your party away to safety. If she has this power, it's reasonable to conclude that she used it in the original timeline to teleport herself and her mother out of the palace. There is no more Zeal and no Black Omen, so maybe all the Enlightened Ones no longer had access to magic and lived out their days on land free of the influence of Lavos?

    Most memorable thing to me is how short the game was. An experienced that sits with you forever yet very short. And where lots and lots of your choices do do things. Like if you did not know to make noise in the cell after the trial Luca will come and free you after the time passes. Just little touches like that make repeat plays mean so much more. The one that teaches you magic having several looks depending on your power, including one very hard to see as you'll likely be to strong, getting clones for every character.. hell the fact that this was one of the first games with new game +. This game was special, and you could plow through it in less then a day, but the experiences will live with you forever. And of course, "To Faraway Times"
