When I discovered you could upgrade armor and weapons. Seriously I made it to Mt. Ordeals with the starting weapons and armor on my party and only realized something when up when Paladin Cecil sucked so much because he had no armor or shield. It's was my first RPG and I was a kid, so give me a break! I think that may have also been part of the reason I got so good at RPGs. Grinding out levels was naturally to me at that time and man where some of my characters OP after they got proper equipment. Serious answer though it probably when Cecil became a Paladin and the Giant of Babel scene where everyone on earth comes together.
final battle.......party dead and cecil at 1 hp while fighting the final boss......and all your friends that can't be with you and even those who fell along the way pray for you and give you their strength so that you can finish your journey, and win the day, and overcome hate. I know not everyone liked golbez being used by zeromus, however, i kinda liked the idea of fighting and overcoming the source behind the evil, as in the real world, redemtion is always possible and it's not so much that people are evil, just easily led astray from the truth and love favorite game honestly
My favorite part of this game (and any game for that matter) is when you’re confronting the giant of babel and everybody shows up. It really highlights Cecil’s redemption and seeing the gang back made me so happy.
This was not only my first Final Fantasy, but literally my first video game. My parents got my sister and I a Super Nintendo for Christmas back in the day, that came with Super Mario World. But they wanted to get another game that seemed "cool" and would appeal to me, and just saw box art with a rad-looking sword on it. Good call, mom and dad. Ah man, the feels.
My brother got one for his birthday with super mario world, and super mario paint - that was dope af. FF2 was just sitting in the SNES the morning of my birthday from my parents. 🥰 first final fantasy as well, I was too young to understand the one on NES. When Dad, brother and sister all want to play and it’s the first play through for everyone…🤣
FFII on super nintendo waa one of my firsts. Technically, my first game is ocarina of time, but only because the super nintendo was technically my uncle's not mine. Definitely have fond memories of learning how to play jrpg's with him. Still say "Her-b" when I play Breath of Fire.
I learned to read playing this by bugging my Mom and Grandma to tell me what certain words or sentences meant and then gradually piecing it together myself from there.

@@Xygor it wasn’t long ago I was playing it but I stick with the psp version which I think is the best version. I think my favorite part of the game is when you are fighting Golbez in the Dwarven city and you are about to die and suddenly a mist dragon destroys Golbez’s monster and just for fun I react the same way the party does going who did that? Then Rydia steps out and you know Golbez is going down now!
Great videos. I have to go back and complete this game. I played it about 7 years ago. Got to the final Boss and died because I was in a hurry to beat it.
When i first played this in 1992 Tellah's magic was such a mind blower. His power always ensured a win. He was too powerful for this would. May his story be told for all time.
Thanks for the excellent video! Despite growing up on JRPGs starting in the mid-late 90s, I just couldn't get into the gameplay here and bailed out after the Sealed Cave. This was such a great way to enjoy the rest of the story and have closure with the game before moving on.
My parents would only let me play 1 hour per day. I worked to save money mowing lawns. To afford the game. Took me forever to finish the game, no internet. So some wasted time wondering around. Game was my world for a few months as a kid. Great newer generations finding enjoyment from it.
The great debate of the early 90’s for me and my best friend, which FF is better? 2 or 3 (as we knew them at the time) my contention was for 3 based on it’s characterization but I could never convince him. Then Chrono Trigger came and and we both agreed it was the best video game ever made
Really enjoying your format and delivery, xygor! I always really enjoyed this game, from the first time my brother and I rented it back in the early SNES days. Never ended up playing it all the way through, but got to see the moon and later stages of the game when one of my good friends who I gave most of my RPGs to was able to beat the game. I'm going to have to reacquire this, and play it all the way to the end, because like Final Fantasy 6, the story line in the deep emotional impact of the well-developed characters resonates with me to the point of tears. Especially when Palom and Porom sacrifice themselves, or when Sage Tellah is killed, or when Rydia is swallowed by Leviathan and re-emerges later alive! I also never got far enough, nor saw my friend played to this point, to find out that Golbez and Cecil were brothers! What a revelation!
I always do the cave of summoned monsters and sylph cave before sealed cave. I also get fusoya before going to get bahamut. Never played this new version you can get yang for final level!?
This video was a great one. My reason for watching it was because I completed many years back and to play The After Years I needed a recap, and this video was just perfect.
As a 17-year old who went on a road trip to and from Montana and Pennsylvania, the Game Boy Advance release of the game was a treasure, especially when my family was constantly annoying me and making travel difficult to endure. I had only ever finished Final Fantasy on my tablet at the time (I would later find the game also on Game Boy Advance) and wished to delve further into the mystique of the world. I watched as the dark knight Drykon (I believe being able to rename the characters helps you feel immersed should you wish to do so) travel with Lekard, and experience hardships unbeknownst to humankind at the time, rescue Veruen, and save the world as much as he could from Golbez, becoming a Paladin in his quest, and gaining Cid's aid in his mission. Finally, Baigan was defeated, the airship was found, the underworld was fought for, the Zot Tower being stormed, and eventually, the Moon itself was set upon by the team. Drykon and his companions are still exploring the moon to this day. It's been three years now and I've only been more and more reluctant to let the adventure end. Someday I will, but for now, I'll enjoy having had one of my favorite RPG experiences in my life. During such hard times as this...maybe it's time to start Final Fantasy VI...but first, I must take on the evils awaiting on the Moon.
Great review! If I had to give a quick top 5 of the series: 1. Final Fantasy IV (not the II version I originally played back in 1992 though) 2. Final Fantasy I (the latter versions are better than the one I played in 1990) 3. Final Fantasy X (I never really got far into X-2, but X is excellent) 4. Final Fantasy V (super fun and should have been in the West) 5. Final Fantasy VI (still really good) Honorable mentions: Final Fantasy VII and VIII. Beat VII, but never completely finished VIII.
I just beat this game on Monday. What an outstanding game. I really want to take this game in all its greatness. To think that the first game from the SNES era could surpass all the ones from the previous generation. And apparently, it’s not the only one from the SNES era to do so.
36:06 I think you messed up your words here. The dialogue says they came from a planet between the Red planet and the Great Behemoth not the Red planet
This is easily my favorite FF game. Really love the characters, the story, and the turn based combat. Hate when they remake a game with modern combat systems.
This was perfect , i played ff14 where golbez shows up and his character was really well written. I wanted to know more about mysidia and troia. I was worried that a game being this old might not have aged well. But i was mistaken this game carries with it alot of grace. Thanks for the video !
I gained a whole new appreciation for the volume of cultural sources from which the series draws, when I learned the four fiends were Italian names. It also makes it more fun to pronounce. Rubi-CAHN-tay Barba-REE-chia Cog-NAHT-zee-o Scar-LEEG-neo They're just fun to say.
I think Rydia is probably my favorite character in this game and I love the story part of how her village was burned down so she does not use fire magic. Then later, when the party needed fire magic to progress, she manages to overcome her hesitation and learns the spell fire. Such a great mix of gameplay and story. Two odd things I have to mention though. One, it's odd that you didn't mention that Damcyan was bombed by the Red Wings when Cecil approaches the kingdom. It sounds like it was just like that when they got there in the video. Second, your pronunciation is bizarre. It's not quite Saffron Olive levels of mispronunciation, but the amount of names and words that were said either wrong or strangely is very noticeable. Still, it's so useful to have an entire story recapped in one place.
Oh, and I wish I was just a _little_ bit farther ahead in my playthrough of FF4 because then I could have actually been ready for the premiere for a video on a game I just happened to be playing for the first time at the moment. But I managed to beat it a day or two afterwards and see this. The ending required a ton of leveling though...I wonder if anyone else needed to do so (I have the PS1 port, not the original that is way easier).
She is. She had a great arc and the blending of story and gameplay is brilliant! I hope you didn't mind me critiquing your pronunciation. 😅 I'm a bit of a word guy and I know that fantasy names often throw people off. Chrono Trigger is infamous for that. "Marle" much?
FFIV also has versions on the SNES, Gameboy Advance, DS, Steam, etc. I just preferred this one because I think it's my preferred graphical representation and translation.
@@Xygor Considering how many times this same question has been asked, I'm curious as to why you haven't added a 'disclaimer' in the description about this being the PSP version. Also, it's so surreal, it's like a Wreck-it Ralph version of the game, where the sprites are inexplicably too large and detailed to give the feeling of nostalgia without taking any of the limitations into account. Don't get me wrong, it's nice... I just wish the spells used the same level of pixel work instead of just being cheesy photoshop effects, it's a real immersion breaker.
FF IV dose has its issues but I won't lie that I really enjoy this game, I've played it multiple times on different systems In fact it was the first FF game I have ever completed. and it amazed me that this game was originally made back in 1991. and I really enjoyed the combat, story, and characters. Even the music is really impressive since it was made very early on the SNES and I love just about every track. This Game is AWSOME!
Well, FF4 definitely meets and exceeds the quota that requires 50% or more of the enemies to have a true form. Behold! Also, those Calcabrina dolls were much scarier than Zemus was when I played this as a kid. Those dolls need gasoline and then fire.
Lol I remember not really knowing what I was doing in this game, I was like 7. I think I got stuck(it was too hard for me) in a metallic place where there are 4 element bosses(i think Rubicante was one of those), I also remember spending literally days not rdoing anything but collecting Gil with Porom and Palom to do some stuff(I think it was to buy some expensive thingy?)
Think the part with edges parents could have been said better but this is my favorite game of all time so I judge everything it's why I learned to read regardless was great ty for taking me back to my childhood

It really was, wasn't it?
this was my first final fantasy, and it opened a new world to me! still, my n°1 old rpg is still Chrono trigger, but this gets close
Amen m8
Wow bro, you and I both! I totally feel you! =D
Wasn't it great?
My dude you are now my favorite you tuber! And that was held by filthy frank for years. I can’t stop watching this and hearing the music and the old bosses has me pulling out my old nes and snes to re start up a couple days of playing. Thank you I cannot wait till the next video!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
Why didn't Rosa just cast "teleport" when she was captured?
they gagged her or you need the use of your hands
I always assumed Golbez did some shit to prevent it as a kid lol
@@Bjorick Yeah she can’t recite the incantation while bound and gagged.
Seems everyone has their own preference as mine is the original SNES graphics with this great narration.
SNES version is perfect for what it is
Totally! I've never seen these enhanced graphics before. The little hearts on child Rydia are a nice touch though.
Fair enough!
I thought I was nuts watching this - I remember the graphics so differently. Thank you for this comment😂
This was the main rpg I grew up with thank you for telling a story many from this generation probably don’t know
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
@@Xygor it wasn’t long ago I was playing it but I stick with the psp version which I think is the best version. I think my favorite part of the game is when you are fighting Golbez in the Dwarven city and you are about to die and suddenly a mist dragon destroys Golbez’s monster and just for fun I react the same way the party does going who did that? Then Rydia steps out and you know Golbez is going down now!
Great videos. I have to go back and complete this game. I played it about 7 years ago. Got to the final Boss and died because I was in a hurry to beat it.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
When i first played this in 1992 Tellah's magic was such a mind blower. His power always ensured a win. He was too powerful for this would. May his story be told for all time.
You know one thing i enjoy about your vids? The fact you got my guy Magus theme playing.
You know it!
Thanks for the excellent video! Despite growing up on JRPGs starting in the mid-late 90s, I just couldn't get into the gameplay here and bailed out after the Sealed Cave. This was such a great way to enjoy the rest of the story and have closure with the game before moving on.
Glad you enjoyed it!
My parents would only let me play 1 hour per day. I worked to save money mowing lawns. To afford the game. Took me forever to finish the game, no internet. So some wasted time wondering around. Game was my world for a few months as a kid. Great newer generations finding enjoyment from it.
Been waiting on this one!!!! So pumped
Thanks, hope you enjoy!
24:20 the point at which I mentally checked out of the game because holy shit man another 10+ hours???
Thanks for this .
What. Version of the games you used
PSP version
@@Xygor thank you
Thank you for the hard work
Thanks for watching it!
The great debate of the early 90’s for me and my best friend, which FF is better? 2 or 3 (as we knew them at the time) my contention was for 3 based on it’s characterization but I could never convince him. Then Chrono Trigger came and and we both agreed it was the best video game ever made
There's something about the FFII super nes version, the red cover and the intro just connects more for me.
Thanks for these memories! Wasn't it a great story?
@@Xygor Fantastic story! Another Final Fantasy game to put on the GOAT Game List!
How is Yang in the final party vs Zeromus? I always remember Edge was there in the original..
Yep, I think that was change a bit for the PSP/GBA versions.
Lame ass hell. Yang was the man I. The underworld but edge FTW
Yeah, it weird to see yang at the final battle, hence no throw command to rush zeromus. I feel uncomfortable watching yang there.
This is one of my favorites! This was the very first one I’ve ever played!
thank you! im a first time player of ffxv and i wanted to know more bout the past games, im binging your content currently..
Glad you like them!
I always do the cave of summoned monsters and sylph cave before sealed cave.
I also get fusoya before going to get bahamut.
Never played this new version you can get yang for final level!?
Good items to grab there
Yeah, I finished the game with rydia, rosa, cecil, kain, edge.i could have sworn.
This video was a great one. My reason for watching it was because I completed many years back and to play The After Years I needed a recap, and this video was just perfect.
this was the best Final fantasy story and gameplay included, ever.
Thank you for all these memories!
Final Fantasy 4 and 6 are tied for my favorite in the series
Two fantastic games!
Great review! If I had to give a quick top 5 of the series:
1. Final Fantasy IV (not the II version I originally played back in 1992 though)
2. Final Fantasy I (the latter versions are better than the one I played in 1990)
3. Final Fantasy X (I never really got far into X-2, but X is excellent)
4. Final Fantasy V (super fun and should have been in the West)
5. Final Fantasy VI (still really good)
Honorable mentions: Final Fantasy VII and VIII. Beat VII, but never completely finished VIII.
I've done storyline summary videos for all of those except V!
What version is this? It looks amazing! Awesome video!!!!
This is the PSP version, and thank you!
Many years passed since I’ve played this game. Time to boot it up again!
Golbez had the best burns. Also, are we gonna ignore that Rosa has Cecil's room on speed teleport?
I just beat this game on Monday. What an outstanding game. I really want to take this game in all its greatness. To think that the first game from the SNES era could surpass all the ones from the previous generation. And apparently, it’s not the only one from the SNES era to do so.
Thanks for this, I got half way a little over a year ago and couldn't remember the specifics of the story! Great summary.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this content man! Keep up the great work
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
Woah nice! What version is this? This one was always my fav. on SNES and would love to try this
This is the PSP version
Thank you for the upload! I miss the gameplay of 4!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
Man such good memories! Those where my best times… playing RPG am going to school! How different am simple things where back then… thanks!
Glad you liked it! And I agree!
Correction at 4:40, there is no underground waterway between Mist Village and Kaipo.
Which version is this? How come you have Yang in your final party and not Edge???
MetalElephant PSP Version, never actually played it so I wouldn’t know, I was a GBA player lol
PSP version
When I saw The Magus Sisters I was genuinely giddy, I know IV was clearly before X, I played X first so was excited to fight them...... Again.
Subscribed! Love this stuff. Thank you for being passionately bringing us the story!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
@@Xygor I try to make it a tradition every year
I love your final fantasy story explained videos. Thanks for this, I have subscribed :)
Thank you, many more to come!
I always thought it was strange Rosa had Cecil's room as a teleport point. What she be doing in there 🤔
What version is this one? I like these graphics over the original nes. Is there a emulator for this version?
This is the PSP version
36:06 I think you messed up your words here. The dialogue says they came from a planet between the Red planet and the Great Behemoth not the Red planet
This is one of my favorites! This was the very first one I’ve ever played! How did you get Yang to be in the party at the end?
Hey! How is this the "complete story" if it doesn't include the after years??
As a ffxiv player, you're a saviour. Can binge this the day of patch to know who tf some characters are
Thanks, glad you like it!
These videos are so good, please make more
I will!
@@Xygor maybe FF9 next? :)
Not next, but will hit it eventually!
You tell these well keep it up.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
This is easily my favorite FF game. Really love the characters, the story, and the turn based combat. Hate when they remake a game with modern combat systems.
It really is a great one!
Rubi-CAHN-tay
Barba-REE-chia
Cog-NAHT-zee-o
Scar-LEEG-neo
They're just fun to say.
:)
what version of FFIV is that? can i buy it from steam?
This is from the PSP version. There is a steam version, yes, but I think it's based off the Nintendo DS version.
So good, great work! Keep it up man, I'm looking forward to the next one!
Thanks man, really appreciate the support and the tweet!
@@Xygor You're welcome! Thanks for the great vids!
My favorite Final Fantasy.
It's a good one!
Yes!
42:09 how is yang in the party. I though edge was in the final fight
Rydia is a great character in the FF universe!
She is. She had a great arc and the blending of story and gameplay is brilliant! I hope you didn't mind me critiquing your pronunciation. 😅 I'm a bit of a word guy and I know that fantasy names often throw people off. Chrono Trigger is infamous for that. "Marle" much?
I really love all your videos and the work you put in to them. The music is sometimes a bit loud and makes it hard to listen to your voice.
What version of the game is the footage shown here? It looks SICK
PSP version
o7 thank you sir
which version of the game is this? the version on steam?? looks awesome
PSP version
What’s the song you use in your intro?
Magus' theme from Chrono Trigger
Xygor Gaming thank you for the very quick reply
Which version of the game is pictured in the video?
The PSP version
@@Xygor i was hoping itd be like ffv and its remaster being on mobile too... Guess this one is just psp only then?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
Man what a great video watched the whole thing can you make a video on the game after the events of ff4
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it and the game! Have you played it lately?
This was amazing hope u keep doing these FF story videos
New one releasing Friday :) Thanks!
Wasn't Gordie Howe Captain of the Red Wings?
Nice!
? This does not appear to be the original release. Was this the PS1 re-release or something or PSP version or something else?

Think the part with edges parents could have been said better but this is my favorite game of all time so I judge everything it's why I learned to read regardless was great ty for taking me back to my childhood
