I really like Kuja. The fact that he saved the party in the end, shows a really neat bit of character development, which, is just what Kuja, as a character was missing. Nice closure.
Notice how the villains in FF9 die regretting their decisions in life. They wished they lived life full of love and companionship, instead of pursuing hollow dreams of power. Also interesting how Brahne is comforted by Garnet and Kuja by Zidane. Death is tragic and unavoidable, but it also brought them true appreciation of life.

@@OniBlackMage yes. But I only have used them to refresh myself on stories I've experienced before so I couldn't speak for a story I know nothing about. They usually cover damn near everything that could be covered though so I believe they'd work out anyways.

Great recap! During my 1st play though Necron seemed to come out of nowhere. I remember it felt weird and kind of confusing for Kuja to be the main antagonist for most of the game and then at the very end you fight some other character who was never mentioned throughout the story who seems to just appear out of nowhere... I still feel it would’ve made more sense for Kuja himself to just clearly transform into Necron.. to me at least that way the last boss will have more of a logical connection to the main antagonist of the game.
But Kuja saves you from the implosion that happens when the party defeats Necron. So it wouldnt make more sense. But yeah, i agree. Necron is basically a wtf moment. A large part of the games lore is wtf for me, but i guess every ffs lore is a bit wtf 😆
Man I totally agree with this. The necron part always bothered me. I think I just rewrote the story in my head and eliminated necron all together, and made kuja my final boss. Or in the very least have necron and the rest of those beasts as summons that kuja couldn't control 🤷♂️
I agree, this is why IX has always been one of the weaker final fantasy games for me. Whereas VII did a good job of building up to the idea that Cloud is not who you think he is they really seemed to drop that in with Zidane at the last minute. Also Kuja's motivations make little sense as he wants to assert his independence from Garland and prove that he is more than just a tool with an expiration date by doing exactly what Garland wanted? Most of his decisions seem to be "so the game can happen" and lack consistency.
This is a classic Final Fantasy and shows that high fantasy can be relevant to this day. If they are looking for direction for FFXVI this game should serve as a road map!

Vivi is one of the best characters in the entire Final Fantasy series. His influence is ultimately why I played it through multiple times over the years. Although, I have some criticisms for it, it definitely tells an interesting story about the will to live, even if your time is whittled down to your final days. Of all the games that I completed, this is the one I'll never forget, I remember playing this when I was 7, it was remarkable, I was all "wow" at it, it's story left an impact to me that I carry until today that I'm 25 years old.
I've re-watched all of your final fantasy videos so many times i just love the series and they are good videos to watch at night to get ready for bed. Your a seriously underrated youtuber.
Poor Freya :( The Invincible was introduced as the ultimate ship you can get on Final Fantasy III, Garland has the same name as the main antagonist from Final Fantasy who turned into Chaos in the end, The Four Elemental Guardians are shoutouts from the Fiends you fight in FFI and Garnett's first name is Sara, coinciding with the Princess' name in the first game as well. Other locales in IX also seem to coincide with past entries' places like the first game just as well.
They did a great job indeed. I have the guide book, and it did say that they want to give a homage to the classic and went back with classic Crystal setup. I never knew all these small gimmick, but wow.

My favorite of them all. Back in the day I wasn't able to beat it. On my first try because I just couldn't defeat Nekron, but later when I became good at RPGs I could, yet my PS1 was old, and would stutter to a crash during the loading of the first FMV after the fight. I'm glad I finally know how it ends... And sad about Vivi dying
I get it, up to the shenanigans with that Chrystal.... So they wanted to kill everyone to siphon the souls of Terra onto Gaia. They do that through the lifa tree. That's why the 4 major cities were ruined. But what's that Chrystal doing there?! 😂

With a dragon he can summon! And now he's dead and the Chrystal broke.... I think... And now all life is dea.... Death is literally the final boss? He's had it with this constant people living and he was the true puppet masters, puppet master, puppets master! (He controlled Garland, who controlled Kuja, who controlled Garland, who controlled... Those Jokers! ) But now no one is dead, and the tree is dying, and here's that show REMEMBER! (I thought that was so cute! )

IX, along with VI, are my favorite Final Fantasy games. It's a shame that the future games couldn't re-capture the magic that both VI and IX had, although I did enjoy IV, X, and XII. I was, also, overjoyed that Vivi made an appearance in Kingdom Hearts 2, alongside a certain theoretical physicist (from another series) having a pseudo-cameo in XV.

Peebo Saxon It’s a matter of how a Japanese person would say it. They pronounce it as Zee-Da-Ne with each syllable emphasised. That’s most likely why he says it as Zee-Dawn. I prefer using the name and pronunciation used by the company. It’s their creation after all.
His name is spelled as ジタン (Jitan) in Japanese so Zi-dahn is closer to Zi-Dayne. It's pronounced in Dissidia as the former. His name is likely a reference to a character in Hironobu Sakaguchi's first ever game.

Since I'm an emotional bitch, the ending always got some form of tears in my eyes after having gone another 30-40 hours with the game for another trip around Gaia.

Vagrant Story I don't have an issue with, and as much as I would like to recap the Ogre series, it's in the same camp as the Shin Megami Tensei series: I want to tell their dark stories, but they have so many endings to reflect choices and not really canon routes, so I don't know how I should approach it.

Since I'm an emotional bitch, the ending always got some form of tears in my eyes after having gone another 30-40 hours with the game for another trip around Gaia.
I spent 90+ hours. I was completing all side quest, all weapon, armor and accessories collection. All card collection. Beat ozma and hades.

Vagrant Story I don't have an issue with, and as much as I would like to recap the Ogre series, it's in the same camp as the Shin Megami Tensei series: I want to tell their dark stories, but they have so many endings to reflect choices and not really canon routes, so I don't know how I should approach it.

Well, the game world is inspired by France. So if this guy was relevant before 2000 it's likely he may have been named after him.

I think I heard that Zidane's name was changed in French to avoid confusion with the soccer/futbol player.
