For those who are finding Lightning Spear hard to hit (i had trouble hitting Malenia with it) the other incantation from the prayer book, Honed Bolt, is an incredible alternative. Lower cost, comes down right on the enemy, and can be cast quickly in succession, skipping the cast sequence after the first bolt to instead call another one
Bolt of Gransax Fully Charged also has a 90% hit rate.

Use black knife tiche summon he got good dodges and knock malenia down give u time to use lightning hits while malenia down.

I made a lightning samurai and it was so fun, a mix of dex and faith using the Dragonscale blade, Wakizashi with parry, and storm like ashes of war on Nagakiba and Naginata
Death lighting from the lichdragon remembrance deals less damage than ancient dragon lighting strike, but it’s in a much tighter are so it’s more consistent.
I made a lightning only build a week ago. Fucking love it more than Pyro. So many more viable incantations to choose from. Awesome videos as always, brother.

Shame you didn't wait to do Rykard until you had ADLS. I tried it, and because his hitbox is so large, it hits him forever. Much easier than fighting him with the Serpent Hunter.
Hi Thingfishy I am about to start this build as a break from following your first faith build, wanted to point out there is a safer way to the Erd Seal, you can follow the rooftops to the right from where youfirst dropped down and jump down right in front of the cell the seal is in, skipping the miniboss by the bonfire.

Trying out some of your guides made me realize just how little I know the boss fights. I really need to commit to doing a no summon run just to force myself to learn the mechanics.
I am actually pretty disappointed that you didn't attempt rykard with this build, as it seems like one of the most do-able rykard fights without using serpent hunter.
Question.
So, think about this line.
Radhan > Nostella or whatever > Gargoyles > Deeproot > the coffin in deeproot that takes you to ainsel. Right next to where you meet tiny doll ranni.
So, ever laying eyes on Ranni, or the fingerslayer blade, is _avoidable_ and one could fight Astel without doing that. Right?
yes. but you cant unlock moonlight altar without the ranni quest
would you potentially consider doing a bow build? these builds are all so well made!
Hi, another great build guide, did this build the other week almost exactly. 3 things I did differently, did the farum azula wrong warp early to get lightning strike which meant you could do Rykard with lightning. The biggest and easiest change was instead of Radagon Icon, I used GODFREY ICON. Would have made your charged attacks even more god like. :) Look forward to seeing your next one. :)
Thanks, Wkd. Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I considered the wrong warp but doing them on console can be a little rough. If I could make this video again I’d definitely try Rykard with strike. Missed opportunity there. You may be interested to know that the Godfrey Icon doesn’t work with any of the lightning incantations, although it strangely does work with the Ancient Lightning Strike on the Bolt On Gransax. Shame, as lightning strike with the Icon would be hilariously good. Thanks for watching!
@@ThingfishyGaming Hi, Godfrey icon only works on charged spells as you know, Lightning incantations, with the exception of ADLS & Lightning Spear are not chargable. ADLS doesn't work for obvious reasons but Lightning Spear does and makes a good difference. Just about to watch your next vid and your Intros are Epic!
Sorry Wkd. I completely messed here with the omission of one word. “Godfrey Icon doesn’t work with any of the ANCIENT dragon lightning incantations” is what I meant. Hope you enjoy the bonk vid!
You know if ypu kill the dragon whilst on mount and as soon as it dues can sprint to the closest site of grace, you can reset it and still get the runes, you can repeat this a couple of times to make the early game much easier

You can get the Golden Vow Ashes of War early on in Limgrave; just attach it to the Morning Star which you already have. Doesn't take away the Bleed and doesn't use up a spell slot.
That's true but the ash of war isn't as good as the incantation

I genuinely had no idea until someone pointed it out on the Thanos build 😂. Gonna roll with it though! Yeah I still need to do the flame of frenzy ending in a guide. Needs the right character though. Maybe Thanos was a missed opportunity for that. Thanks for watching, Bandit!

Umm couldn’t you use the frozen lightning to proc frostbite? Why wouldn’t any lightning spells work? I’d be getting more memory stones and slot in frozen lightning, and the lightning buffs, and then still use honed and spear as bread and butter

Agreed the run doesn’t look fun to do with so little variety used. Honed bolt would’ve been good to use early-mid game and fortisax lightning spear excellent mid-late game…but you have to kill a boss with 80% lightning resistance to get the latter
I would like to sincerely thank you for this video, due to this I actually tried it myself and it was the most fun I've had in Elden Ring since my very first playthrough. Through and through a greatly enjoyable time.

I did beat rykard with just sword bonk till my friend later said you were supposed to use that weapon, strength go brrr
Read the opening warning about containing flashing scenes as “contains fish” by mistake and laughed before I realized my mistake
When dubstep starts playing you know it's gonna be a "fun" time. love your builds, at this point I think I've done them all. Also there's a dude on a chair with a somber stone 4 between iji and the precipice so you don't have to buy it or go to sellia cockroache nightmare tunnel to upgrade a somber weapon to 6. Great content as always.

Tried Rykard with lightning only. But with the Bolt of Gransax. Got clapped hard.
U can one shot rykard with enough buffs and good rng on ADLS
One of the things I like to do is grab the spear, then save out, go and level it, then go back and fight him... no buffs needed. After struggling with this boss in my first couple of playthroughs, leveling the spear really helped me.

Excellent guide, as always. I never liked the challenge videos where they do the Faram Azula Grace skip to get the ancient dragon spells early. Lightning is my favorite element in the game, after trying out Bolt of Gransax and respeccing my Greatshield build from Str only, to Quality just for it. If I ever do a run with just one element, it’d be for Lightning.
It was tempting, as I’d love to see what strike is like for the earlier bosses, but ultimately wrong warps on console are rough and I didn’t want to set that entry requirement. Glad you enjoyed it, Arella!

it's possible on ng+ with red lightning spells. to kill snake boi
Here are the challenges(or build) I come up to beat the game:
-Cryomaniac build
-Ranger build
-Faithful Crusader(faith build)
-Sun God build(Light)
-Amogus build(assassin)
-King Crimson build(Blood incantations)
-Shadow Wizard build(Dark sorcery)
Nothing can withstand my Glinstone Pebble!

nice guide on my first playthrough rn and my build pretty much enden up like this with no guide since lightning is so fun to use and i never felt the need to change since its so strong lmao went with faith and dex later tho cus of gransax love your guides
5:05 If you do a wrongwarp to Farum Azula, you can rush and get Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike/Spear from the prayerbook, eliminating the need for fire damage here.
From what I can tell he just doesn't want to use wrong warps. So no super early +9 or early Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike -- which is of course a very different run.

Fun fact plasidusax "only" has 40% lightning resistage all other 'aincent' dragons have 60/80% lightning resistence, if i am correct.

I'm trying this build on Radagon but the Ancient Dragon Lightning just keeps missing him. Sometimes it gets 1 hit, a lot of times, most of the times it misses him completely. I've only gotten multi hit on the opening and even that's not guaranteed. I can never get a fully charged spell of during the fight. I can never find a gap when he lets me do it. He always recovers and can attack me out of the charge. So I'm reduced to using the quick cast and hitting him 1 hit at a time, sometimes.
I've not managed to beat him yet after a solid 2 hours of trying. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or is it supposed to be this RNG heavy with the hits?
It's quite tricky.
Try to not stand to close to him. If you keep enough distance you have better chances for a multi hit. That way the first fully charged cast can half radagons health. (you probably want to stand close to the plant between you and Radagon)
After that you only really have the jump, his triple Hammer grad slam and his hammer swing where he creates a cone on the ground that explodes delayed while he poses as openings. Also I haven't been able to charge ADLS during the fight without getting hit.
You've probably found a way to beat radagon by now but let me know if you've found any other tricks to make ADLS more consistent.
and I still can't manage to do the Ordina skip

What's your talisman setup in the late game? Radagon Icon, Flock, Lightning Scorpion and ?
I did my own lightning only run a while back, you can use lightning pots for the beetle if you want to be strict about it haha

You know that Somber Ancient Dragon in Moghwyn Palace can be acquired early by doing Varre's offline quest right?

Okay... So... Fire Giant, for anyone wanting to run this. Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike is great for this fight, but he' has it locked up in Faram Azula. BUT Frozen Lightning Spear, From the Nokstela Dragonkin Soldier is a great alternative that's generally easier to control. I usually run Lightning Spear, Frozen Lightning Spear, and Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike on my RL330 for some verity.
I love the absolutely ludicrous amount of damage the ancient dragon lightning strike does.
Oh youre resistant to lightning? Ancient dragon lightning strike begs to differ
You should do a pyro build next!

I ended up needing to use Mimic Tear for a few of the bosses, but I did manage to make it through with this - it was a lot of fun! I have been disappointed with the lack of inherent lightning weapons so this really met my hopes.

You can one-shot Placidusax with the Ancient Lightning Strike if you use Godfrey Icon, Ritual Sword Talisman, Flock Canvas Talisman, Lightning Scorpion Charm, Lightning Crack Tear if you fully charge an attack right in the beginning.

I absolutely belive this to be possible.
I've 2hit him with ADLS on ng+6 and 3 hit on ng+7. I didn't even use ritual sword and Godfrey appereantly already didn't work anymore (a patch has for some reason removed godfrey icons effect on ADLS). However I did use howl of shabriri.
TIL there's another seal that I have missed on every single one of my NG+ cycles

Killing something twice without using Lightning seems a little out of sorts for the purpose of the guide, but I am doing something similar right now (used a Wretch instead of the Prophet though), and I found it WAY easier to kill that damn Leyndell Knight by simply using Poison Mist. Just sneak up behind him, apply it, then wait out the damage. When it stops, re-apply (should only require two castings to kill the knight). As a side note - it appears that the charged version of Lightning Strike DOES trigger the dodge animation of many enemies (though admittedly not all), whereas the standard casting does not seem to trigger that response.

I will say you were dead on about Maliketh, I've been running this build and was able to get him after two ancient dragon lightning strikes, the first one leaving him with a tiny sliver of health.
So excited to try this one out. Looks amazing as usual!

Hey Thingfishy, would it be possible for you to make a build focused on bestial incantations? I think it would be pretty fun and I've yet to see one that uses nothing but the incantations themselves
Hey, Helltaker. This is one I’ve had on the back burner for some time. From a test run I did a while back up to volcano manor/ leyndell, their damage really wasn’t great with a fully optimised set up. Probably the lowest I’ve tested on any build (apart from a couple of super silly challenge builds).
I suspect they might get a buff in the future, so I’ll cover them then. If they don’t, I may do a bestial challenge build further down the line, as all of the incantations are really cool! Thanks for watching!

Wait what? I've tried lightning build before. Malenia straight up dodges all my lightning spells, I don't know how you managed to land hits.
I had to rely to Bolt of Gransax full charged weapon art to be able to hit her at all. Or rely on Lightning Storm RNG.

I miss dark souls when the lightning is the most powerful thing
i followed this guide up to the fire giant and gave up, dont get me wrong its a good build. im just not good enough to dodge every attack from the bosses. i kept getting one shot and got annoyed. again good build but add a bit more vigor in there.
Yeah Fire Giant was really rough here. The Ritual Shield Talisman will stop you getting one shot for a small damage sacrifice. Summons too! Alexander pulling aggro would be super useful for this build. Glad you enjoyed the build to this point and hope you get past it!
Guardians sword spear with thunderbolt ash of war, invest in dex. Huge damage, low FP cost, and quick casting. Destroyed mohog and the fire giant.
