Yeah. The corkscrew attack should’ve been reserved for the baby version while the horizontal slash combo would’ve made for such a sick weapon art for its big brother
@@becomingsentient1208 that’s what I was saying, heavy could be corkscrew and light could be the light, a combo we deserved but instead got the Walmart version
What I love about the Dark Moon Greatsword is that while all the other legendary armaments were the weapons of other legendary beings, the Dark Moon Greatsword is yours. It's gifted to you by an Empyrean. You are the legendary warrior that future generations while learn about should they one day hold it. That's neat.
I like the Dark Moon Greatsword but I to this day think the Holy Moonlight Greatsword from Bloodborne was the best iteration of the sword in aesthetics and function
@@ICECAPPEDSKY Bloodbornes whole aesthetic is the best of all the FromSoft games and the others don't even come close imo. Excluding Bloodborne though I think the DS2 Bluemoon Greatsword looks the best even though it's a fake.

So the Marais executioner sword actually has a really cool reason as to why its with a bell bearing hunter. Elemar was someone from a land called Eochaid and he was being sentenced to death at the Shaded Castle. But people from Epchaid can do some crazy jedi shit with swords and instead of being beheaded he used that power to rip the sword from the executioner and started murdering everyone
tbh I find that fight really cool. Maybe because on the first playthrough I never encountered hunters but still, something about the arena and portrait feels really cool
@thatlittlemonstrosity Kind of late but the reason for the portrait is because the marais the dude you find outside the shaded castle had a crush on malenia so he put a portrait there to honor her but one day as the other person said Elmer did that jedi stuff and took the castle To further confirm the theory to why he has a crush on malenia and why he put he portrait there when you kill him he drops the marais robe his weapon and the marais mask but if we look at his weapon we find scarlet rot again to honor malenia
I like to think it's blood magic, due to its coloring and the fact Elemar has thorns on his arms, most likely causing bleeding. Which then drip onto the Marais sword. Also I like the headcanon Elemar waited until the exact moment the sword hit his neck during his execution to gain control over it before the fatal blow.
iirc, in an interview he stated that what he helped create was the story of what happened BEFORE we arived, everything in the shattering etc, anything after that he had no hands in
In Bolt of Gransax’s defense, the version you’re using isn’t the true bolt, but rather a miniaturized version whittled from the real one. The REAL bolt was the skyscraper-sized piece of geometry you see in Leyndell. This is kind of like a bunch of ants scraping off some iron from a sword sized for human use and then using those filings to make a sword wieldable by ants. It’s still going to be strong of course, but just not nearly the same as the full-sized, real deal.
Try talking about that with Hawkeye Gough. He was a giant with a carved greatbow and he straight up gave it to the Chosen Undead after hunting Kalameet. I still ask myself how that thing can fit into our non-existent loincloth pockets. XD It's just funnier to think the main characters just turn these giant unusable weapons into something more comfortable for them, even if it doesn't make any sense at all. However, before all that, I did think the same thing like you, that it was just a replica. Still funnier to think the former, though.
@@TheMrMayo Another possibility is that the Bolt of Gransax scales its size to the wielder. That way we still have the full bolt, but its native magic shrinks it down so we can actually, y'know, use it. It would also then stand to reason that its power also scales with the wielder's size to an extent, and thus, the ally/friendly face most suited to be able to wield it would be Iji, since, y'know, he's a giant. Speaking of Iji, a Bolt that matches its wielder's size makes for a funny mental image if you ask him to upgrade it for you since the first time, neither of you is gonna expect it to become huge when he grabs it to get to work.
@@DeisFortuna I could agree to that idea, only under the condition that the bolt won't change after it comes into new ownership (which helps to explain why Iji or Hewgs holding it to smith won't change). Otherwise, It's just as comedic to think that the bolt would suddenly grow to Iji's size after swapping owners temporarily.
@@TheMrMayo in defense of the size changing for whoever holds it, Iji is kinda out of the way (I only use him when I need +1/+2 sombers) and Hewg is still person sized.
One thing that always throws me for a loop is the fact that the Godslayer's Greatsword is the only weapon in the game that has that "Legendary" Gold color to it's item box when you pick it up, but isn't a "Legendary Weapon". Lore-wise, also pretty Legendary IMO, despite being lore nerfed by death being sealed. But then again, we un-seal death and nothing changes?
How do you balance a weapon for PVP that changes depending on which part of the story you're in? That sounds like a nightmare for the dev team. At the end of the day, lore takes a backseat to what Fromsoftware views as "fair" weapon balance. If it were entirely an offline game, I would absolutely agree with you though.
I used to think that the Relic Sword NOT being one of the Legendary Armaments was super dumb, but then I realized, **It requires a Remembrence, THATS WHY!** Same reason Placidusax's Ruin isn't one of the Legendary Spells, NOR Renalla's Full Moon.
Fun Fact about the Ruins Greatsword : Players have found after testing that it's magic damage really doesn't scale with a player stat, but actually just with the weapon's level.
I actually like Radagon's sword being in the hands of some nobody warrior, the man literally tore apart his ex wifes gift and remade it into an image of his god, then abandoned it altogether. It was most likely held in the capitol or maybe he lost it while fighting the war in the north and didn't even bother to look for it. Gives the world a lot of depth as well that amazing things can be found anywhere in the hands of anyone.
Radagon literally only married Rennala to destroy their rivals from the inside. Pretty furked. There is a canonical lore explanation for the Leonas in the mountaintops to have the blade, can't remember if Vaati or Ziostorm posted about it though.
Radagon’s biggest secret is that he is the other half of Marika. She split herself as a plan to gain more power from marrying Rennala and gaining some other info before going back to Marika under the guise of “I chose you to be the second Elden Lord” when really it was just to refuse with Marika and have the power to shatter the Elden Ring because she knew that it was a parasite feasting off the Old Great Tree that the Erdtree attached itself to. That and because she was in extreme grief from the death of her son Godwyn. I hope Shadows of the Erdtree gives us more info about the previous Great Tree, it’s definitely looking like the expansion is going to be about the past.
The leonine misbegotten was called "children of Radagon" in the early development of the game, that's why they have the red hair and probably why it have the sword renala gave Radagon. I think there's a video on UA-cam where a guy recovered the files and talk about a this.
I think it's worth it to consider that internal names and early development can include information that has become outdated by the time of the game's actual release and to remember to treat anything not derived from in-game info with a heavy grain of salt and with the knowledge that it could be contradicted by any future lore.
@@elias.t While true that it may not be canon anymore, it's still a good meta explanation as to why they carry such storied weapons, in particular how the one in the Consecrated Snowfield got its hands on the Golden Order Greatsword. It may have made complete sense in an earlier version of the lore so they made those Leonine Misbegotten guard those weapons, then changed their minds about the lore and couldn't alter the bosses to remove the weapons.
@@elias.t Yeah sorry, but this comes off as totally pointless nitpicking. No one's denying the semi-canon nature of cut content. Nothing changes the consistent symbolism of the encounter. The misbegotten is red-haired (the most recognizable feature of Radagon). It's called a crusader (in other words, a religious zealot for the Golden Order, like Radagon). It dwells in the consecrated snowfield near the Haligtree to remind us of the departure of Miquella from the Golden Order and the fundamentalist views of his father Radagon. Even if we were to assume the general misbegotten are no longer necessarily connected to Radagon in the game's final release, this particular one is obviously, beyond a shadow of a doubt, meant to be a stand-in for Radagon. Otherwise it's just some random enemy wielding a legendary weapon for no reason. Do you prefer that interpretation?
“I think there’s a video on UA-cam where a guy recovered the files and talk about a this.” Zullie the Witch? That’s the one I’m familiar with, and she did a decent job explaining it.

I feel only the Dark Moon Greatsword actually has what it takes to be worthy of legendary status, being the wedding gift of Carla's ruler to their consort, you having to go through a long and interesting quest to find out how Ranni orchestrated Godwin's assassination and realizing she actually had a point and probably was helped by queen Marika. Also, isn't it so neat that you recieve Fromsoftware's signature recurring weapon after the quest?

The golden order greatsword is so sad to me. It’s one of the coolest looking weapons in the entire game, it has a really awesome lore story, yet it’s found in the middle of nowhere with little to no context, and it is just… decent. Still would honestly use it on a strength faith build for the sake of it looking really cool anyways
to add salt to injury, it’s given right after the last major boss that had no strong holy damage negation. After fire giant, using this sword is basically hitting the nails with a screwdriver right after you used hammer to screw the screws I feel sad for holy damage in general, such an unfortunate state
@@thatlittlemonstrosity I definitely agree from a sheer gameplay perspective, but I think Rusty sorta missed the lore reason there. The whole point is that holy damage is what was used by all the bosses. It's what some of the bosses are made of, it's what most of them come from or are imbued with, etc etc. The Golden Order has been poison the whole time, and it's the Tarnished coming back with weapons that are older than the Order itself (or at least damage types that are) and shredding through the Order. Their own weapons aren't gonna work well against them, when they're the same type of magic.
The Eclipse Shotel itself isn't that horrendous of an item, it's just that it's whole gimmick of death blight (and being one of the only weapons to apply it) is effectively useless because next to nothing is actually affected by death.
I think that was his main point though, besides the stuff about no affinities and needing a ton of stat investment. Sure, it isn't USELESS, but there are guaranteed better options, so calling it "legendary" seems to be a bit of a stretch.
I like the sword of night and flame, the flame attack is strong against bosses and the beam attack knocks down and breaks guards. But physically I’d like it to do a little more damage.
That was my biggest issue with the sword on my first playthrough. I didn't want to just cheese every fight with the laser, but I did peanut damage on Fire Giant and respecced to power stance curved greatswords and it worked so much better
What’s sad about the golden order greatsword is that that it was originally a dark moon greatsword given to Radagon by Renala, who reforged it into its current form after leaving her The great moon greatsword is given to the consorts of the queens of the Carian Royal Family. It’s why you get one from Ranni when you complete her quest. You even put a ring on her hand
Well, you are right, but I believe considering the fact that renalla commands a full moon instead of a dark moon I believe the sword may have been referred to as the “full moon great sword” because the moon the ray was taken from to craft the sword was a full moon instead of the dark moon commanded bumpy ranni.
Gotta agree. It makes no sense to have this legendary dragon of a weapon be a wimpy little spear with nothing to its name other than what is the equivalent of a red fantasy lightning AWP.
@@chase6579 look wise it’s okay, I just wish it had better attacks, like having a lightning effect on the heavy attacks would’ve made it feel more legendary
@@Oscar_charlie.r yeah it's physical attacks in general kind of suck if you're only using one and I don't like dual wielding weapons. They really need to give there a downside to doing so because there's absolutely no reason not to in this game
you didnt mention that the moonlight greatsword's beam attack deals the same amount of poise damage as a normal heavy. Thats what really sets it apart in my eyes, massive damage, good fp cost and it gives you a free stance break on any enemy that doesn't die in 3 or less hits.
That is one of the big reasons it’s so sick. You can stagger from range and inflict frostbite. Plus with a proper build the beams can do 2-3k damage alone
@@ejr7733 No it doesn’t actually. Only the physical part if you’re close enough to an enemy. Axe talisman doesn’t effect the magic beams. Godfrey icon does with charged R2 though

Don't watch these videos for your first ever playthrough. You will eventually get respec ability. i suggest you download a larval tear mod if you are on pc so you can respec as many times as you like. Do your own experiments and see what playstyle fits you. i always liked a build of big ass shield with a pole arm type weapon. and i cruised through the whole game with that type of build. early game, i used "standard halberd" that we get from vagabond class. switched to "pike" after some time. Eventually got the bolt of gransax and finished the whole game with that as it was too damn powerful.

Marais executioner sword is pretty cool but i find it odd because in the lore, elemer is the source of that magic, not his sword. So really it makes almost no sense
@@schnoz2372 I mean, he engraved the sword with the magic of his homeland, right? So in theory, if we’re assuming INT bros are just Raya Lucaria nerds minus the masks, then maybe the reason we can use the weapon art is because we did some studying after nabbing the sword off his carcass? I’m just reaching here, so if I sound crazy, I probably am.
I’ve been using Dark Moon Greatsword for quite a time and jesus it does actually feel legendary. So much damage, such a great design, visuals, effects, the power of it. I love it and it is truly the best legendary armament
I like that it got updated and now when you are very close to enemy, both sword and wave attacks count, so you are going to easily shotgun your enemies. A lot of fun and i use it too
Also, grafted blade still has the 5 second endure, which was hot fixed down to 2 seconds on the regular ash, 2 days after it was buffed to 5 seconds. 5 seconds of 2x defenses its crazy.
Yeah if youre going SoNaF and commit to the dual int-faith build, youre just maining the weapon art and its gonna hard carry. You wont get as great scaling with spells or incants but you get full advantage of imo the most versatile weapon art in the game save for like, square off or moonlight greatsword. Also if you do want a sort of “side arm” thats functionally basically ancient death rancor that requires no staff scaling and does wacky damage to anything not highly resistant to holy, get the regal omen bairn. This thing has a really slow wind up and recovery but the projectiles follow their target to hell and back, and ive totally obliterated more than one guy in my limited pvp experience by backing off and firing the wraiths at them, and they always panic run leaving em wide open. It also scales with both int and faith and very well, and its an item rather than a spell, leaving you open for other spells or two handing or anything really. Again just be careful with timing or youll get bitch slapped into the ground
@@TheWither129 They've been patched recently, so they're all much better. The basic discus of light gives you two attacks (if your positioning is right) for 3 FP. They also pierce, so they're good for narrow lines of enemies or large enemies. All that is just the basic spell; Radagon's rings is still a crusher AOE.
@@TheWither129 Honestly that's what I did recently. Decided to play through and level int and faith equally and just use the weapon art. SoNaF absolutely smacks just about everything and has great build variety (being able to use both sorceries and incantations). Towards the end of the game I had 50 in both Int and Faith and utilizing Golden Vow, Flame Grant me Strength and Terra Magica, I had buffs for pretty much any situation. Additionally, I picked up the Prince of Death's Staff and Golden Order Seal to use my Int and Faith for both Sorceries and Incantations. Honestly had a blast fighting Malenia with that thing because while she could easily dodge the mini comet azur, the flame wave part of the weapon art hit nearly every time she dodged if I spaced myself properly. Truly a weapon of all time.
I love the sword of night and flame. At times, it feels so stupidly powerful. It's versatile, stupid strong at times and honestly has two amazing skills to ever be seen on a weapon. I love it a lot, easily my favorite elden ring weapon based on how fun it is to use.
Love the sword of night and flame, mained it on my first playthrough. Up to about 75% of the way through the game it’s ridiculously OP without having to build into it too heavily.
I would like to see a shield tier list, from the great shields to the medium shields to the party shields. Specifically the great shields. Great video as always. I enjoy your content. Keep up the great work.
Yeah. It was the weapon that finalized my dex faith build on my first playthrough. With the stats i had, it had like 700 AR. It's decent damageon a light weapon.
@Captain_Morgan i mean, respectable, but I was more dex than faith (i think 45 dex, and 40 something faith) at the time, I didn't know of the bandit CS. I use the ES and just a scimitar. Wasn't exactly optimizing at the time. But you're probably right. I'm aure there were about 10 way to do more damage than I was.
I think an even split with the SoNaF is the most fun way to use it. 50/50 Int/Fth means both options are really good, just not overpowered. The split damage of physical attacks only matters if the enemy has a particularly strong resist to either magic or fire, otherwise the AR is among the best of straight swords. And you don't want more Str or Dex, because their scaling is trash on this weapon. Add a Blue Gold Kite Shield and cast Scholar's Shield on it, and you have one of the coolest sword and shield builds in the game. My build had enough End for Cuckoo Knight Armor, 40 Vigor, and 30ish Mind.
i used Darkmoon Greatsword unironically. I love the design and it's frost affinity, the special attack doesn't use Mana except for charge-up, and deletes HP after a flask of magic. considering it's lower than average speed, i'm surprised to see it #1!
I used the DMGS for my second playthrough and tbh found the slow speed was more of a skill issue than a legitimate drawback. It only felt too slow because I was over-committing at the wrong times. I tried to pull off full charges when I was far too close and was severely punished. When I got through my head quick blasts for close-range and full blasts for medium range its power really started shining through.
Hey Rusty, I recommend trying Marais a second time. One thing I learned in my journey of using every one of it attacks singularly from Ng +0-+7 is that while the charged skill does more damage, the uncharged version of the skill does a huge amount of damage as well for far less time cost and risk of being hit. The charged is only effective on enemies that give you eternity to hit them such as beginning of Radagon and beginning of Elden Beast and even then having max buffs is really kinda needed. It is definitely better than the Golden order greatsword and honestly, it’s my 2nd best legendary weapon, after DMGS
You know that face wrapping thing makes me want to make a Joshua Graham build. Not entirely sure what that would entail, but I know Fire's Deadly Sin needs to factor somewhere.
Also, I think Fallingstar Beasts are my favorite design for enemies in video game history, they’re both adorable and menacing at once! not the FG one though, they didn’t need to give it a damn eye….
I love the Fallingstar Beasts! One of the best beast-like bosses fromsoftware has made (I saying this without having played bloodborne because I don't have Ps4). Something I really like about Elden Ring is how many cool monsters exist in this game. It's something I really missed from ds1.
5:00 The line "Marika's tits, you MUST be hungry" from Blackguard Big Boggart is 100% written by Martin and I am not accepting arguments to the contrary
I think it's because they have a relationship to the empyreans. Which is Why the black knife and black flame great sword aren't in the legendary weapon list. Each one has a direct huge impact on the lore of the game. Maria's significance is the house that allowed Melania and he knights to function, with there destruction meant her downfall. The moonlight great sword is the same of ranni following her teacher and turning away from the erd tree. The golden order sword mequilla abandoning radagon and the golden order. Each one seems so symbolize the fractures of all demigod factions in a sense.
I've been playing since Demon's Souls, and I've never really taken the plunge into sorcery or any kind of magic before, not even faith. I started off with a versatile axe and spear mix with some bows, and the second I found and used my first Greatsword I've been an unga bunga strength build user. No shame, no shade, no hate on anyone for the builds they use, I was just too attached. First after the armor and sword of Tarkus help propell me through the four kings, and then when Dark Souls 2 brought us Guts' visual design on the same weapon, I just carried a lot of attachment. Well Elden Ring I wanted to build organically; start with nothing, and find the pieces of my build overtime as I travel the world. The first lucky break I had was Carian Straight Sword, and so my road took me down the path of magic, intelligence and strength, and eventually to the Moonlight Greatsword, which I'm happy to say I used for the first time in the entire series. Very worth it, and so wherever it ends up on this list when I watch this video, it remains number one in my heart. EDIT: Ayyyyy
you mentioned lightning not actually being effective against endgame dragons, to be honest that's what it felt like in ds1 too. i remember looking at the lightning effect descriptions and thinking "oh, i should use this against the dragons in Valley of Drakes, bc they're like dragons" only to find that they're actually highly resistant to it.
Well to be fair the fact the drakes are themselves using lightning should be a clue that they are an exception. Im more disappointed lightning doesn't actually do that much damage against the real dragon bosses like Kalameet.
@@yeehmm1893 Gold Pine Resin says that lightning "is effective against dragons and their ilk". Which one would think would include the drakes, but apparently it doesn't
Overdecorated backscratcher? Appropriate. Misbegotten getting the lion's share? Nice pun! Clearly, some work went into the wording as well :) Can't wait to try a DMGS build myself, but currently I'm way too invested in making Darth Maul jealous with Eleonora's Poleblade (and still having my legs).
I also find it funny that Golden Order Greatsword is found basic cavern being used by one of the games many copy paste bosses. This thing is basically the Holy equivalent to the Dark Moon Greatsword and it's acquired the same way you'd acquire some random high stat normal weapon.
this is also true, also i’d like to mention a theory which says that golden order gs is the original moonlight gs, i can tell more if you’re interested

I did a marai's only (more or less) run and it was great tbh. The points are 1) you don't always charge the art like the video shows as the uncharged version is also powerful and very quick when combined with roll cancel, 2) the weapon art is not only for damage, but also charges the consecutive buff stacks and empower regular attacks or even spells and 3) the weapon art is a good replacement of repost combined with good stagger ability of gs. The starting animation is also fast so that you can chain it after a lvl 3 damage level gs jump attack on elite mobs. Only downside is the build is not finished until ng+ but regardless it's my second weapon on the list after dmgs.
I used the Darkmoon Greatword in my first playthrough when PVE and PVP were not separated and it had subpar abilities but now its godly I would say. They were smart to buff the weapon tbh.
I swear you have some of my favorite Elden ring content. I have vatti zulli and agtjake for lore. Dom's roundtable for walkthroughs and things I missed and dark tark for silliness. But there's Rusty. , Dear Rusty., Leading with the humor and the knowledge both. Double good on ya.
DMGS is goated. I’m on my third playthrough and cannot fathom using anything else after I first got it. I used strengt weapons first but it felt too monotonous and katanas next but it felt monotonous and cheap. With this I can build for a varied magic build on the offhand and every boss is still fun. Even if some bosses have high magic/frost resistance like Mogh, I don’t feel like changing anything. It’s just the goat
If you think the grafted blade greatsword is the only thing GRRM contributed, then I gotta say that I think you forgot about the noncon brother incest- THAT is GRRM right there. Marika and Radagon also feels characteristic of his love for twincest, but I get the feeling that got vetoed and made into selfcest because you can't miss that lorebit compared to Mohg and Miquella
Blasphemers blade w/ Black Knife as a swap. It only weights 2.0 and does a massive amount of medium ranged damage on strike, causes bleeding AND takes like 5% of maximum HP away. The combo is so good I find myself trying so many other weapons and keep coming back to that setup.
I think you have the grafted great sword pretty far down for what it can do for you. With godrick's great rune and this thing's weapon art, that's a plus 10 to every stat. That makes Liurnia and caelid MUUUUCH smoother. And yes, you'll probably replace it for the ruin great sword or the giant crusher hammer in late game, but that makes it fit nicely into a playthrough. By the time this thing falls off you are finally starting to be able to even USE the optimal weapons for strength builds. that isn't a negative by any means. In fact, There isn't a single weapon out there that's going to beat it in damage in early game anyway. Also, just putting this out there, if a weapon has a one shot build attached to it that's not a bad weapon. The "set-up" for those builds is just a couple talismans and a quick trip to renalla for stat adjustments.
7:38 I did a run a while back that used Cipher Pata, Coded Sword, and incantations, so by endgame I let myself use the Golden Order Greatsword. I'm one of a select few people irritated that the sword made of light is so damn heavy! It matters to me!
The coded sword should be a legendary armament. It looks super badass. I used it in my Elden lord play-through, it’s not necessarily good, but it is beautiful, and it’s ash of war “unblockable blade”, is crazy. I was taking a decent chunk out of the Elden beasts heath bar, doing straight holy damage. Lightsabers are fun.
You said it with the into to the weapon on grafted greatsword. George saw a chance in his Elden Ring lore to have players hit people with the iron throne and went for it.
Fully agree with this list. Including the praise for the Sword of Night and Flame that way too many people shit on for what it is since if used correctly it’s the best. Not to mention regardless of where you stand on the Darkmoon Greatsword, personally I love it, if you’re including acquisition in the the rank then it’s an easy first. That Eclipse Shotel thing is so forgettable that I legitimately think that in the future when I’ve long since stopped playing and decide to reminisce on my time with this game I will not remember that weapon which is downright unacceptable for something considered legendary in a game that doesn’t flood you with “legendaries” and that’s not right.
Photons do have a weight, despite being miniscule. They are also tiny, so making a giant sword made out of pure photons could believeably be heavy considering how many photons you would need to make a sword of that size. It's like how 5 tons of feathers weighs the same as 5 tons of iron.
I hate to "well ackshually" somebody here but I feel it important to note that photons very much do NOT have weight or, more accurately, mass to them. This is because any amount of mass would require infinite energy in order to accelerate to the speed of light and as photons ARE light they cannot have mass. Photons DO have momentum, though, which is how light sails are theoretically plausible and possible. Subatomic particle physics is weird.
Dude, I stumbled upon your channel recently, and now I'm a sub, because you are not only concise and informative, but funny as hell. Keep up the good work!

8:23 OKAY! I'll try to explain. Radagon is a very very divorced dad. He was trying to connect with Miquella. Sharing spells and getting into the golden order together. He had a sword that still brought up bad memories of his ex but was what he had made into the definitive Golden Order weapon. So he gave it to his son Miquella. Miquella being too small to actually wield it didn't have much use for it but appreciated the gift from his dad. As he became disenfranchised about the Golden Order's inability to find any kind of cure or fix for his brother's condition, he decided to leave Leyndell and found his own order. Along the way, on the trek to the future location of the Haligtree, he decided to discard the weapon. A symbol of his father's shitty attempt at being a dad and shitty order that couldn't help his brother and only offered him a weapon too big to wield and utterly pointless to him. So he chucked into a cave along the way in the Consecrated Snowfield. The Misbegotten who found it was just one of the Misbegotten on their way to the Haligtree. The Leonine Misbegotten are greatsword snobs and this one couldn't pass up the sword and guards it for all the value he sees in it. There. The explanation. Coherent and consistent with established item descriptions and encounters and the world, overall.
The opening to this made me so happy. I'm in a constant state of thinking about daily life and politics of Elden Ring and the Souls games, especially before it's entirely apocalyptic. Even though it's just a gag it's really neat to see.
I have already finished elden ring and i am in Ng+ i had all of these already and knew how they worked so i dont know why i clicked the video, but it was very fun, definitely subscribing, keep up the great work bro!

Yeah there's a lot of hoops you have to jump through to get the Dark Moon Greatsword, but they're really interesting and entertaining hoops that take you to some cool places and fight some cool bosses. Also reveals some cool bits of lore.
My biggest problem with bolt of gransax is the same problem with its brother, the cragblade. Both are so heavily related to the dragon cult, which has a fuck ton of incantations. And neither of them have ANY faith scaling. From soft made 2 phenomenal faith weapons, and then made NEITHER of them faith.
Lore snippet! The Golden Order Greatsword WAS the Moonlit Greatsword that Renalla gifted to Radagon (The way Ranni does to you, Carian Tradition) but he transformed it then cast it aside when he left Renalla. That's why some rando Misbegotten has it.

The biggest letdown with the Marais Executioner Sword is the fact that we don't get the huge horizontal slashes that the Bell Bearing Hunter has
Yeah. The corkscrew attack should’ve been reserved for the baby version while the horizontal slash combo would’ve made for such a sick weapon art for its big brother
Imagine it having a unique heavy attack that did that. Big range, but big opening since it has to come back and all.
Just make it a stance and let us choose between

What I love about the Dark Moon Greatsword is that while all the other legendary armaments were the weapons of other legendary beings, the Dark Moon Greatsword is yours. It's gifted to you by an Empyrean. You are the legendary warrior that future generations while learn about should they one day hold it.
That's neat.

If someone gave me a sword as a wedding gift I'd be happy.

Its amazing and his story is cool i just kinda wish that it was..better? Maybe an extra move or something

XD
It's just funnier to think the main characters just turn these giant unusable weapons into something more comfortable for them, even if it doesn't make any sense at all.
Upon receiving the legendary weapon Zoolander screamed, “What is this . . . a sword for ants?!?!”
But then again, we un-seal death and nothing changes?
black knife is also a legendary item
How do you balance a weapon for PVP that changes depending on which part of the story you're in? That sounds like a nightmare for the dev team.
At the end of the day, lore takes a backseat to what Fromsoftware views as "fair" weapon balance.
If it were entirely an offline game, I would absolutely agree with you though.
Maybe the DLC will fix that? Maybe?
I can bet you that it was meant to be- Same as the black knife.
It's more like the weapons scaling value in int is so low that you might be seeing 30 extra points of damage between 80 and 16 int. Lol
@@A_Black_Sheep94 Some were knights and shit. That's why.
Yeah, the creator of this video ought to fuck off back to Assassins Creed.
Pretty obvious radagon has ties to the misbegotten

I feel only the Dark Moon Greatsword actually has what it takes to be worthy of legendary status, being the wedding gift of Carla's ruler to their consort, you having to go through a long and interesting quest to find out how Ranni orchestrated Godwin's assassination and realizing she actually had a point and probably was helped by queen Marika. Also, isn't it so neat that you recieve Fromsoftware's signature recurring weapon after the quest?
You fight so many bosses and go to so many interesting places to get this thing. It’s such a dope quest that is optional fucking optional! Man if only all the other “legendary” weapons were like this one
I clearly massively misunderstood the game because I still have no idea what Ranni's whole goal was lmao
@@MexiFryStains
She is an empyrean, someone chosen by the Two fingers to succeed Marika. She didn’t want that shit. So she stole Destined Death and killed herself in flesh only since being anEmpyream meant your very flesh was under the control of a god.
This wasn’t enough however as the two fingers assigned to her still lived. You then come in, kill Radahn to get to Nokron which was banished by the greater will due to making a weapon capable of killing Two fingers.
You get the weapon, give it to her, she kills her two fingers and fully frees herself from the Greater will. Since you give her the ring, you become her consort and since as an Empyrean she can take marika’s place, she ask you to become Elden lord and complete your journey.
You do it and rather than becoming the third Elden Lord to Marika, you become Ranni’s Elden Lord.
After fire giant, using this sword is basically hitting the nails with a screwdriver right after you used hammer to screw the screws
I feel sad for holy damage in general, such an unfortunate state
Same
@@thatlittlemonstrosity I definitely agree from a sheer gameplay perspective, but I think Rusty sorta missed the lore reason there.
In a game with a metric ton of weapons, the thing that separates them is their moveset and ability and the shotel has none of the listed.
Honestly, I prefer the shotel because of its fast moveset and how quickly I can get in, get a few hits in, then dodge out

What’s sad about the golden order greatsword is that that it was originally a dark moon greatsword given to
Radagon by Renala, who reforged it into its current form after leaving her
The great moon greatsword is given to the consorts of the queens of the Carian Royal Family.

@@TheWither129 Honestly that's what I did recently. Decided to play through and level int and faith equally and just use the weapon art. Eclipse Shotel's skill has a part 2 that helps a lot with the deathblight build-up. I think ppl go too harsh on it.
Yeah. It was the weapon that finalized my dex faith build on my first playthrough. With the stats i had, it had like 700 AR. It's decent damageon a light weapon.
Yeah it's just that most are taking out opponents quicker in other ways
I would like to be nicer but the scars from the first two months of elden ring pvp and fires deadly sin bs hurt to much to be nice to it.

I love the Fallingstar Beasts! One of the best beast-like bosses fromsoftware has made (I saying this without having played bloodborne because I don't have Ps4). Something I really like about Elden Ring is how many cool monsters exist in this game. It's something I really missed from ds1.
You say that till you realize the are young astels with the aster skull and eye emerging from their heads
@@peanutworshiper6666 Yep! Fallingstar beasts are the larval form of malformed stars, which eventually grow into astels.
The one in the crystal tunnel was some of the biggest bullshit in the game. I'm guessing that's why a lot of people don't like them.
5:00 The line "Marika's tits, you MUST be hungry" from Blackguard Big Boggart is 100% written by Martin and I am not accepting arguments to the contrary
Good job as always and loved the wildpie reference bro
also for the dark moon greatsword
if you use it in melee range
charged heavy attacks
It is a poise breaking MONSTER
@@reaperofthings yes you can
The projectile is affected by godfrey's icon as the physical sword is affected by the axe talisman
@@reaperofthings You probably aught to get you controller or keyboard checked on. It definitely does.
Never mind my game was bugged, I hopped on and now there’s an actual charged R2
@@reaperofthingsNot a surprise.
Yeah, level 70, +6 dark moon greatsword, staggers most bosses in 2 or 3 hits, ended up killing morgott during his phase transition because of it
I wonder why you don’t need the black knife or the godslayers greatsword to get the legendary weapon achievement
I was wondering why he didn’t show then thanks for pointing that out
Maybe they're not "legendary" because they're so secret that nobody knows of them and no legends exist around them?
@@ShaoShaoMienshao I mean that’s a neat idea, but they are probably the most lore important legendary item, or atleast the black knife is
@@CRydon200 Godwin nightmare netherrealm DLC when
I think it's because they have a relationship to the empyreans.
If i remember correctly those Valley of Drakes dragons are weak to fire for some reason.
They breath lightning
theyre drakes
Well to be fair the fact the drakes are themselves using lightning should be a clue that they are an exception.
Im more disappointed lightning doesn't actually do that much damage against the real dragon bosses like Kalameet.
@@yeehmm1893 Gold Pine Resin says that lightning "is effective against dragons and their ilk". Which one would think would include the drakes, but apparently it doesn't
Overdecorated backscratcher? Appropriate. Misbegotten getting the lion's share? Nice pun! Clearly, some work went into the wording as well :)
Can't wait to try a DMGS build myself, but currently I'm way too invested in making Darth Maul jealous with Eleonora's Poleblade (and still having my legs).
@@tunar_karimov the game literally tells you that, its not a theory
@@Joe-es4ke oh is it? idk i saw it somewhere on the internet and didn’t get too much into that
@@tunar_karimov yeah the description goes "signs betray that this is the sword bequeathed upon him by his first wife, renalla", and the moonlight greatsword says that carian royalty give it to their spouses
@@Joe-es4ke oh great, i’d love to see actual moonlight gs in dlc or smth, imagine something like what they did in bloodborne type, many beam attacks and outstanding visuals
2:22 That is literally the best description I have ever heard, oh my god - I bow to you my Elden Lord.
Sure I am missing something but what even are these intros.
The joke is he’s insane for making this video series
Art.
It’s just the goat
you have no business making intros this freaking good mann...
Rusty makes lore in the intros and then doesn’t make an outro. Perfect
The combo is so good I find myself trying so many other weapons and keep coming back to that setup.
it doesn’t cause bleed lol and it’s 10% but goes away making u have to reapply
Oh that's a clever setup. Will try some time.
@@en20drayt87 It definitely applies some kind of DOT
@@CrossWindsPat yea, bleed isn’t DOT
8:57 love that you're literally dying trying to make this weapon work; both in narration and in your footage. Bravo sir, Bravo
The Super Mario Sunshine intro goes hard
7:38 I did a run a while back that used Cipher Pata, Coded Sword, and incantations, so by endgame I let myself use the Golden Order Greatsword. I'm one of a select few people irritated that the sword made of light is so damn heavy! It matters to me!
0:22 "I wipe my as* on the robes of your kings and floss my teeth with the swords of your soldiers" that goes hard feel free to clip
I can't believe i just found you on UA-cam, man. 😂 I love your delivery! Subscribed for sure!
You said it with the into to the weapon on grafted greatsword. George saw a chance in his Elden Ring lore to have players hit people with the iron throne and went for it.
Another video to make the day go by woo!!
Also do you think you will ever do a boss rememberance weapon tier list?
14:00
Love the dumbshits guide reference here
Haha I loved your opening description of the Ruins Greatsword.
God I love that weapon! My favorite of the game so far.
Anyone who skipped that intro deserves to spend a lifetime fighting review bots.
Photons do have a weight, despite being miniscule. They are also tiny, so making a giant sword made out of pure photons could believeably be heavy considering how many photons you would need to make a sword of that size. It's like how 5 tons of feathers weighs the same as 5 tons of iron.
That's can't be right, iron is heavier than feathers
I hate to "well ackshually" somebody here but I feel it important to note that photons very much do NOT have weight or, more accurately, mass to them. This is because any amount of mass would require infinite energy in order to accelerate to the speed of light and as photons ARE light they cannot have mass.
Photons DO have momentum, though, which is how light sails are theoretically plausible and possible. Subatomic particle physics is weird.
its weird that u dont have a outro ( 14:46 ;) )
Dude, I stumbled upon your channel recently, and now I'm a sub, because you are not only concise and informative, but funny as hell. Keep up the good work!
Yo that intro was awesome!
I love how sometimes he says that things are good for clearing mobs as a positive thing but when hes talking about something he dosent like the devourers scepter he says "its good for clearing out groups of enemies that wouldnt pose any threat" i like rustys content but some times hes just biased or disproves himself.
3:44 the funniest five seconds
"How about you devour these nuts Bernal"
6:14 honestly, im so upset that you cant swing the marais sword in the air like the bell bearing hunters...
8:23
OKAY!
I've watched a few videos on the channel, but after the intro to this one, I was convinced to sub. TY for the content 👍
I subbed after that outro, I love UA-camrs that don't take things seriously to an extent such as others, video sounds like its made by one of the boys rather than a nerd.
This video made me remember why i never wield thoses weapons
The intro to this was way too good man love it
That opening bit was pure gold, no pun intended. Also I really like the style of that lightning spear.
Yeah there's a lot of hoops you have to jump through to get the Dark Moon Greatsword, but they're really interesting and entertaining hoops that take you to some cool places and fight some cool bosses. Also reveals some cool bits of lore.
First video I've seen of yours, and the opening alone was enough to warrant a subscribe.
Can’t wait for the all craftable items tier list
Lore snippet! The Golden Order Greatsword WAS the Moonlit Greatsword that Renalla gifted to Radagon (The way Ranni does to you, Carian Tradition) but he transformed it then cast it aside when he left Renalla. That's why some rando Misbegotten has it.
Finding this content a year later. Great stuff.
Fun fact, a moon great sword of some kind has been in just as many fromsoft games as npc's named patches if not more
the influencer -> jester analogy blew my mind
Dude, Rusty, I really dig your presentation! You’re entertaining, informative and goddamn funny as fuck! Please keep it up, I’m gonna dive through your old videos
