PATCH 1.08 UPDATE - TL/DR: The build hasn’t actually been nerfed that much at all! So until the actual data on great hammers and Cragblade is collected and released by the wonderful Souls scientists, I’ve done some testing with this build in 1.08: Staggering 80 poise enemies with R2’s: Greathammer: 2 x 2H charged R2’s (same as 10.7) w/ Cragblade : 2 x 2H charged R2’s (same as 1.07) Staggering 80 poise enemies ASAP: w/ Cragblade: 1 x 2H Charged R2 + 2 R1’s (1 additional R1 needed in 1.08) Staggering 120 poise enemies in 1.08: Greathammer: 3 x 2H charged R2’s (same as 1.07) W/ Cragblade : 3 x 2H charged R2’s (same as 1.07) Staggering 120 Poise enemies ASAP (see Godfrey fight): w/Cragblade: 1 x 2H charged R2 + 4 R1’s (1 additional R1 required in 1.08) So if you follow this build exactly, the worst case scenario for the whole game is needing an additional R1 to break postures. The only exceptions I can think of to that are Placi and Radahn. Placi went down in 3 R2’s on 1.07. Will definitely go down in 4 on 1.08, but maybe quicker with 3 R2’s and a couple of extra R1’s. Radahn is messy due to his hyper armour. Theoretically went down in 4 in 1.07. And 5 would do it in 1.08. So unless From have buffed colossal weapons to do higher posture damage than great hammers now (seems unlikely), this is still the best build in the game for posture breaking bullying on a strength build, especially now Flame of the Redmanes is dead. Speaking of FotR, I tried to break Margits stance with it and ran out of FP before he staggered 🤣, so that’s definitely gone. Hope this helps! Grab your spikey bonk and get bullying!
I tested this out today, the bonk is still good you only need a couple of r1’s to stagger but, I have to say during the malekith fight before the patch I could stun lock him but now it requires a little bit of effort to do so, nonetheless it’s still a very solid build.
I co-op for maliketh all the time and use cragblade + great mace for the draconic tree sentinel. Can confirm it’s still 2 charges for the first stagger and is still an excellent choice.
Blunt Collosal weapons such as Giant Crusher did get buffed. Same as Flails. The top 3 weapons for stagger now are Collosal hammers, great hammers, Flails. At least for counter attacks. I'm not sure about Jumping or charged.
Great Stars is such a beast. I've been doing an "Immortal" Faith/Strength hybrid that runs Great Stars with Prayerful Strike (which has stupid hyper armour and restore so much health), Blasphemous Blade with Taker's Flame, Blessed Dew Talisman, and Rykard's Great Rune. With decent armour, you just regain so much health and can trade for days. Cast Bestial Vitality, or one of the later Blessings and the health regen is ludicrous, too.
Tanks are fun to run. I have an STR/END/FTH build I'll try this with. I overlook Rykard's Rune for Morgott's and Godrick's too often, it seems. Thanks for this.
@@viktoriyaserebryakov2755 I've not tried it on the mimic yet, have been running no summons just to try something different. I feel it wouldn't be as good now as the mimic tends to be far less tanky in general after all the patches.
I've had so many ideas I've had to make a tier list to justify making all of them. Currently doing the Lawbringer from For Honor and doing Slave Knight Ageail next. Recently just finished a Darth Vader and a Sauron run too.
@@kokorochacarero8003 tbh I mainly said sauron since nobody really remembers Melkor, I actually did Melkor but used Sauron weapons. For incants I did frenzied burst and flame, the frenzy grab and catch flame. For weapons I used the mace with remane's flame and a greatmace with flaming strike. For armor I used the crucible tree set. Pretty fun but only at the bottom of A tier for my builds.
@@Zenoferrum I'm a big bonk and fire incantation enjoyer myself so that setup sounds like fun. Running into Morgott must've been quite akward from an RP perspective tho, lol
Man your skill at this game is very high. And that is reflective in the difficulty of following along with some of these guides at times. But this looks like a run through. Completely devastate each boss and stunlock them. Well except for “Her” Great stuff man. Thank you for the content. Love playing along with you
Thanks, Gost! Really kind of you. I do worry sometimes that because I’ve played the game so much, at some point I’ll start calling things easy that definitely weren’t for me before I’d beat everything dozens of times. I do have some things in mind for the future to remedy this though! Yeah this was a really fun one. Thanks for watching and let me know how you get on with the build!
It’s actually possible to get two great stars in one play through. By doing the Varre quest and fighting the Recusant offline, which is also how you get to the somber 10 at like lvl 40
And since we are talking. And I am not one to ever butt in or nag a content creator to make any specific video. But I think a Ghostflame ignition death poker build would be a lot of fun for the play along :) Pretty sure we can cheese the death bird in Caelid with a bow or something and just start off with it
These guides are incredible. The amount of work that goes into them really shows. Always kills me when you use/cast the wrong item or spell lol. Keep it up!
This is the best channel for fun build guides. Even though I probably won’t try all of them they’re still just so interesting to watch! Pure strength has always been my favorite way to play all souls games
I know I’ve already put way too many comments on this vid today. But your music stays stuck in my head all goddamn week. It seriously gives me chills when the action peaks and valleys
Haha, you’re fine! Really good to hear that! It’s amazing music. I actually remembered to make a note of what I used this time, so all the tracks are in the description.
Cragblade nerf didn’t really bother me as greathammers were so OP on their own. Be interesting to see what they’ve done to them. Unless they’ve changed the values of weapon types this should still come out as the best posture damage build but we’ll see!
Always happy when you upload a new vid! And my God I love the Great Stars, probably one my fav weapons in the game - the damage to weight ratio is insane, same goes for posture damage, AND it has bleed and the small healing effect. Also, the chained R1s are surprisingly speedy... Love everything about it. Thanks for a great video
Thanks, Cliche! Yeah it was my first time using a great hammer in the game and it made some of the colossal weapons seem incredible cumbersome! Thanks for watching!
Just a heads up for anyone not in the know-- you can actually run to the Site of Grace before Greyoll dies to reset her, while still getting the runes. It's surprisingly lenient, so it's a great way to farm runes without too much work. Edit to add: You have to be on Torrent as you'll be too slow otherwise (as far as I know). Also you won't get the 5 dragon hearts until you let it disappear.

Bro I’ve done so many builds pure int with some dex, dex arcane bleed, strenght Int, pure faith, and right now my absolute fave is pure strenght with faith, the strenght and posture breaking blows are just fantastic you feel so powerful. 🔥🔥
That Gideon fight had me crying 😂. Gold as usual, Fishy. I'm thinking all these guides will really pay off when DLC drops. Your production quality and presentation are just top notch man. Keep it up.
Oh I cried too, but for different reasons 😒. I hope so! Really enjoying making them and feedback like this makes fighting Gideon worth it (…just). Glad you liked the video, TTF. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
Great video! Did a similar build for my first run through the game, only differences are, i used the greatsword (i know, roast me all ya want), and i used no buffs aside from the cragblade AoW. It's really easy to play the game with a build like this, i would say even easier than the OP magic/bleed builds, and it provides a much more satisfying experience. As for fighting Malenia, having the AoW you get from one of the Night Cavalry you can stun lock her just by throwing her up into the air repeatedly, since she is a smaller enemy. STR builds are still OP in FromSoft games xD
Yes. This is one of two builds I've been waiting for. I've tried several different methods to break posture and land devastating criticals consistently and I definitely look forward to trying your build. That second build I'm waiting for is, yes, a robust tank build. I appreciate showing how to level up endurance and add some light armor for the Khal Drogo build. How early can I get a durable, high poise, and resistant character so I'm not so easily knocked down and one-shotted, while also doing viable damage? Being able to naked side-step demi-god heavy attacks is skillful, but there'd be something satisfying about tanking through those attacks instead.
Hey Thingfishy... another terrific video, esp as I'm new to Souls. The idea that a fight can almost be scripted is so counter-intuitive to a new player because the game adapts to your inputs: the more you faff, the more it adapts eventually closing you down. What I'm really learning though *isn't* how to kill bosses but what the limits and attributes of setups are, to 'read" your opponent's weaknesses vs your strengths and how that can flow into intuitive play. And that's high-level stuff (even if that isn't your 'hook" into the video). The music is also excellent- esp those tracks from Hopp. Love it. Keep it up! ❤
Just used this strat (12:08) for Draconic Tree Sentinel on my (first) RL1 playthrough (I'm following your guide for that as well!) - couldn't quite manage it using the greatsword so switched out for a Cold Great Stars +19 and after several attempts got him down. I'm so excited! Thanks =)
Been doing my own thing with this guide, having a blast bullying these bosses that bullied me on my first playthrough. I didn't think I'd be able to play the game without ashes at first, but thanks to this guide, I have more fun without them!
I'm modifying this a bit with STR/FTH, and using Flame Arts to put Cragblade on my Great Stars. I can double dip in my Physick with Spiked and Flame Shroud, and you double dip again with Flame Grant Me Strength. To really get enough stats it'll be a NG+ build, but it's working pretty solid so far.
Great video! I love the intro. I've just started this build as I've been wanting to go a Great Stars build. One change you can make to the set up is to use the teleporter at the top of Fort Gael after grabbing the Starscourge heirloom. It puts you very close to the spot you pick up Cragblade. It's tricky to get past the knight, but is double.
imagine From made it so that every time you hit enemies with spiky featured weapon, you can see the holes on their bodies. now imagine you are using this rough, stony, massive morning star. also, great editing as always! here's to seeing more build guides to come!
The most reliable stance breake for me is just the hammer from leyndell, two hand it, cragblade for stance bonus. Jumping heavies and charged r2s. Regular hammers have more powerful stance dmg than greatswords, halberds etc. On par with colossal swords, and only beaten out by great hammers and colossal weapons. And theyre way lighter and less taxing on stamina. So with light load youre just able to spam big attacks in all their dumb faces without being super drained of stamina all the time. Oh, and naked with blue dancer for full caveman RP, ofc
damn. I always struggled with those valiant gargoyles. you wrecked their shit. nice vid. even if I'm never gonna do this build as it seems too easy, the vid was still entertaining.
Just a truly solid build! I just played trough elden ring for the third time using this build and had no major problems. Maliketh was a bit of a grind but managet to get through it with minimal effort after fully upgrading the star and equipping alexanders talisman. Really fun!
The 1% heal is actually massive if you have a multi-hit AoW such as prelates charge, golden land or eruption since it can heal multiple times per cast.
Thanks a lot! Perfect timing of seeing this video ^_^ I am currently doing no-death all-bosses 40+ hours run (I am not hardcore enough to do it fast and on a low level but very close to doing it in a long way ^_^). Might change my strength build a little based on your video. Hope it will help me to beat Astel 2.0 and Malenia on a first try.
@@ThingfishyGaming always i found your channel and have built all your builds and enjoyed them very fun and informative just gotta work on parrying lol
Started doing build like this but with Great Mace instead of Great Stars, since not really getting bleed anyway and the Mace is stronger. Very strong and fun
Best Elden Ring video I've seen! Not because of the build, but cause it kept me intrigued and hooked till the end. I'm logging in today and will give this a try. gg
I mostly followed the easy start up and this up to Renalla, though it wasn't super clean by any stretch. I accidentally lost my night's cavalry runes because he killed me in his jumping attack and fell off, leaving my runes on the bridge edge, then of course I fell off trying to get them back. I didn't follow your stats since my fight knowledge is a lot more limited (I've only played through the game on New game and New Game +, no fresh starts past Godrick). Now I'm in Renalla's room at level 43 and my bonk stick after about 4 hours. I'm a little worried that my fight knowledge isn't good enough to really follow this guides path any further, but even if I break off and start playing more normally I'm well set up. Thanks for the content!
For maximum Posture King build you could do a Heavy Giant Crusher with Cragblade and Stonebarb Cracked Tear and all the rest of the stuff in this video. Turbo giga stance damage. I just NG+++ with 2 Heavy Giant Crushers with cragblade for turbo bonk jump attack damage with jump attack talisman and the jump dmg chest armor, and once you get enough stat points to get 99 str and 99 arcane, occult affinity on giant crushers is highest physical damage in the game
Ty, exactly what i was looking for my tank build. A weapon that staggers without perma spam the ability button😈 For newer players i can rly say dont go mage, go facetank builds that can stagger as well and greatshield. Trust me, i abondend my mage as its so squishy compared to deal huge dmg and just facetank everything. Greatshield from stormcastle is enough to get trough till u can obtain the mighty fingerprint shield :) Now i can have blunt dmg for the crystals and shield idiots and my nagi spear for the cheesy poke strat 😁
I used this with a bleed pickaxe and one phased radahn and mohg in ng+6. The pickaxe with the spear talisman can dish out some huge numbers on counter hits. And bleed infusion has the highest physical AR at max level.
You're obviously rocking the fans/subs, so you can ignore it, but I want to mention one little thing. Your voice is great ASMR (whether you plan that or not), and makes it awesome to "alongside" with any tedious or stressful work tasks. And unlike most ASMR videos out there, you're ALSO really interesting/entertaining. But the epic classical opening music is disruptive to that whole ASMR-chill, so it's hard to get into it on playlists. Could you consider taking some of your longer runs and putting them in a playlist leaving no openings in them? I would totally rock 4 or 5 of them in a work day.
PATCH 1.08 UPDATE - TL/DR: The build hasn’t actually been nerfed that much at all!
So until the actual data on great hammers and Cragblade is collected and released by the wonderful Souls scientists, I’ve done some testing with this build in 1.08:

I'm modifying this a bit with STR/FTH, and using Flame Arts to put Cragblade on my Great Stars. I can double dip in my Physick with Spiked and Flame Shroud, and you double dip again with Flame Grant Me Strength. To really get enough stats it'll be a NG+ build, but it's working pretty solid so far.
Just beat the game with this build
Definitely recommend
Dude your guides a freaking amazing
Really glad you’re enjoying the channel, Shamrock. Thanks for watching!
@@ThingfishyGaming no problem. Keep up the good work. 🤜🤛
This would be a particularly gruesome video! Glad you liked the vid, Dycaruz. Thanks for watching!
Basically Doom Eternal but medieval
(I love it)
I used this amazing build guide to do a hitless run including Malenia. Truly epic stuff! thank you sir 🙏🏾
That intro was hype af
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Great stars plus wild strikes is absolutely hilarious. 10/10 would recommend
talismans are radagons soreseal, axe talisman, starscourge heirloom, and dagger talisman
damn. I always struggled with those valiant gargoyles. you wrecked their shit. nice vid. even if I'm never gonna do this build as it seems too easy, the vid was still entertaining.
This is probably one of the next builds I'll be using. Thank you for the awesome video, @Thingfishy. Breaking posture is so satisfying in Elden Ring.
Brilliant pal, well played. Such a good guide! 10/10
Guts greatsword with giant hunt. Giddion (or any human) can't get up and just flopps till they die lol
The smash on the face intro totally got me oh god
« I feel quite good about it, I didn’t get hit last time » 😂😭
Bro thank you I was struggling with maliketh but then I tried this weapon and beat him first try with it
cool vid 😄✨✨✨✨
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
I'm subbing before I even watch the video. The intro was just too awesome.
Thanks a lot!
Perfect timing of seeing this video ^_^
I am currently doing no-death all-bosses 40+ hours run (I am not hardcore enough to do it fast and on a low level but very close to doing it in a long way ^_^).
Might change my strength build a little based on your video.
Hope it will help me to beat Astel 2.0 and Malenia on a first try.
These video intros have quickly become cinematic masterpieces
This was a fantastic str build video, you made the game and using this build look easy. Well done!
That opening was beautiful
The intro for this was dope!
did it again man like always keepem comming
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
@@ThingfishyGaming always i found your channel and have built all your builds and enjoyed them very fun and informative just gotta work on parrying lol
Run jump attack charge R2 guard and counter attack. Most bosses get stancebreak already.
Started doing build like this but with Great Mace instead of Great Stars, since not really getting bleed anyway and the Mace is stronger. Very strong and fun
I would love to see flame of the redmanes and Miséricorde. one of my favorite combinations!!
This video inspired me to take determination off my guts greatsword and swotch to cragblade. Best. Decision. Ever.
Looks like I'm starting a new strength build tonight. Great stuff. New sub gained 🤘
The most soothing gaming video I have watched since Flower.
Best Elden Ring video I've seen! Not because of the build, but cause it kept me intrigued and hooked till the end. I'm logging in today and will give this a try. gg
amazing content as always. Check those settings my dude!
Thanks, Jed. Glad you enjoyed it. Haha, yeah that was a bad morning. Thanks for watching!
The Radahn fight with the music was epic
Finally been craving a vid🙌
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching!
Wow, what a video, fantastic work.
The music you use in your videos is epic.
the intro alone deserves a sub
The way the music swells when you kill margot it sounds like weve discovered the cure for cancer
Thank you for giving me the gift of smacking a rune bear, those thing have been bullying me for 2 years, im gonna go bully some crabs now
So much fun, I am a strength player (Guts-like) so I need to play that way !! Thank you for this new vid ! See you soon !
Glad you liked it, Super! Thanks for watching!
Glad you liked it, Super! Thanks for watching!
I've been using the flame of the redmanes on great stars, this is a good build, I might switch it to a dagger and use cragblade instead
Yeah definitely give it a try! Left hand great stars, 2 hand it to buff cragblade, right hand ROTR dagger. Stagger city! Thanks for watching!
A weapon that staggers without perma spam the ability button😈
For newer players i can rly say dont go mage, go facetank builds that can stagger as well and greatshield. Trust me, i abondend my mage as its so squishy compared to deal huge dmg and just facetank everything. Greatshield from stormcastle is enough to get trough till u can obtain the mighty fingerprint shield :)
Now i can have blunt dmg for the crystals and shield idiots and my nagi spear for the cheesy poke strat 😁
Great video, absolutely destroyed Radahn 😂
I used this with a bleed pickaxe and one phased radahn and mohg in ng+6. The pickaxe with the spear talisman can dish out some huge numbers on counter hits. And bleed infusion has the highest physical AR at max level.
That sounds like a very unique build bro
Gonna try this out on the last two bosses. Thanks man.
Thanks for watching!
i'm using this build. it's amazing. i'm still level 10, and running in the tutorial area though.
I was literally thinking about the Golden Vow/Flame Grant Me Strength/Cragblade combo today, I guess this is what I'm doing with it
Executioner's Axe may be better for this build. The 1.15 crit damage is hard to ignore, it does great damage, but does weigh a bit more.
I did a run not too long ago with dual Battle Hammers with Cragblade and just jumping L1'd everything in my way. It was hilarious
Yo btw if you wanna make farming easy, just kill the dragon and immediately run back to the grace, if your fast he will not die and you will get grace
Splendid video. Upped & subbed.
Love your work I swear always learn something
Thanks, Varm! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
I've been waiting for this
Hope you enjoy it, Kristopher! Thanks for watching!
26:50 Love how Mohg says "Ah, i can see it clear as day," as he takes a giant spiked mace straight to the fckn eyeball lmao
