I was fighting an F-5C with a MiG-21 this one time and shot it in a headon with 23mm dakka, then proceeded to hit it with 2 consecutive R-60s and this bugger didn't have the common decency to die or even be set on fire from that.
Respectfully sir, the ka-50 doesn’t have the “decency” to die after 12x12mm apfsds (at critical components btw) 2sam’s and enough 5.56 and 7.62 to start a war

I agree, as a f5c pilot sometimes I get hit badly and it still sort of flies swaying side to side. Also if you get hit by an r60 in the rear 50% of the time nothing happens to you and you are fine.

I hit an F-5 with a Red Top missile, with some 20kg TNT in the warhead. “Crit” guy flew off like nothing happened.
Casually goes into a .9 Mach turn out turning and running 6 enemy jets picking off 2 of them with missiles till they all give up.
Play the A32A, I want you to suffer. attempt 3 (it could carry countermeasures in real life, mention that)
I am not asking for much, only justice for this poor plane.

According to one forum mod, the devs are aware that the A32 carried dispensers. Only time will tell if the actually go through with giving them to the poor A32

It's pretty easy when the F-5C flies on a fantasy Flight Model where it can do a 180 turn dropping only 50kph, whilst also being more survivable than most Battleships.

My opinion on the spotting system:
Honestly, I feel like something with how tanks are spotted in ground might work. Up to like 5 km in a 90 degree arc infront of you will be always spotted, up to 90 degrees to either side might be 4.5 km, then everything else might be 4 km.
Spotting system actually does work like that (atleast its supposed to)
Keen vision stat deals with spotting enemies who are inside your field of vision (aka the part of the sky visible on the screen).
Awareness stat affect how enemies aren't in that are spotted (significantly lesser range than the first kind), really helps because enemies show up as red dots (flashing if freshly spotted) on the mini map.
I think the ranges increase when flying close to allies.
The problem is that it is inconsistent AF, some enemies get spotted from waay far off, and others get close enough to shoot you without being spotted.
From what I've experienced, permium aircraft seem to have some sort of advantage of less likely being spotted, no way to confirm tho
It's not a "bit less" engine power, the f5e without afterburner on has as much thrust as the f5c WITH afterburner
yeeeaaaahhhh thats what i said. The power difference is very significant.
The F-5C's afterburning thrust increases relatively more than the F-5E btw. The thrust numbers in the X-ray mode are not representative over the entire speed range of the aircraft. (afterburning) Jets get an increasingly more thrust at higher speeds. Here: an example of why you should not always blindly trust the given numbers.
F-5C reaches about 2250kgf per engine at mach 1 (which is about a 800kgf+ gain per engine, +56% thrust from advertised thrust) whilst the F-5E has about 2550kgf per engine at mach 1 (which is about a 300kgf increase per engine, +13.5% increase from advertised thrust). Given that the F-5E is also a little heavier (~800 kg heavier), they both have comparable to pretty much identical T/W ratios when afterburning.
What about when they are not at mach 1? When do they reach their advertised thrust? The F-5C reaches its advertised thrust of around 1420kgf at a mere 360kph already. The F-5E reaches its advertised thrust of 2220kgf at nearly 900kph, at this speed the F-5C produces about 2000kgf of thrust per engine. The difference is thrust is not as large as it is on paper.
The F-5E however does kick the F-5C to bits in T/W when both are not afterburning. Use a tool like WTRTI to get the actual thrust numbers in real time. I hope with this I cleared up some of the confusion, because if the difference were this huge, the F-5E would be literally a rocket if we look at the performance of the F-5C.

@@Kevin-wp7xp well its truly depends on the missle and what fire it was....if they were both fuel fires that would explain why you were able to extinguish them but if any one of them were engine fires it would not go out...at leasr not on a jet

I bought this when I was at rank 5 jets, so I'd seen missiles before. Nothing could've prepared me for the leap that was rank 6. Missiles all the time. Needless to say, I died all the time. After a few videos and plenty of games, I've gotten better. Don't expect to do as well as this guy here though, his aim with the cannons is unreal. I get happy if I get one kill with my cannons. I did always play arcade before the F-5C, so no lead indicator was hard to get used to, especially since when I thought my lead was right, it was too far behind because of the speed at which those jets fly. It IS a really fun jet though. I managed to make a guy waste all 4 of his AAM's on me. While he got me with his guns, I was happy to waste a lot of his utility. It's a large jump in skill. You've got guys who have played more War Thunder than they have spent time holding their kids. Be prepared to be shat on a lot, but try not to take it too seriously. After all, you're playing games for fun.
This thing just feels like its overperforming. The flight and damage models are both absurd, and the ahistorical flares are another insane quality.

@@tumblingdown3514 Its fuel consumption is completely borked too. It can take low fuel, be very maneuverable, and afterburn all day without increased fuel consumption.
@Infinity all flares got buffed last update so it's not just the F-5C flares
@@sniper321fire That is true but the f5 engines seem to be cooler without an afterburner compared to the phantom especially the f5e which shoots downwards increasing distance between flares and plane
You should play the A-4E again, it got downtiered to 8.7 and it does amazing. The Aim 9’s seem to do a lot better
they have made realistic tanks and air easy mode so people can jump right to the end tier and do ok

I bought the F5C yesterday. My first RB match in it, there were all but 4 on the team. Literally my second match ever with it, the entire team was F5C. No joke. An entire team of F5C. Of course we lost in like 3 minutes. But damn, that's a problem.
Just bought it for the Christmas sale. Everything said in the video is spot on. It’s super fun to play, the missiles aren’t great but useable on oblivious players. The shear power to weight ratio of this thing is insane for 10.3. It is mediocre are energy retention in turns and climbing yet some how manages to gain it back extremely quickly even with probably the smallest jet engines above 8.0. It’s a blast to fly but right now it is in a weird spot. With the addition of 11.3 some times I find myself in matches being the only plane that isn’t 11.0 or 11.3. Other times I find myself in a match full of 9.3s as one of the only planes 10.0 and above. This isn’t its fault more the trash balancing system that plagues this game. But other then that it’s super fun to play. And OMG the cannons. They are mounted on top of the nose like many prop planes making it extremely easy to measure lead distance in-front of targets. Probably the best 20mm in the game. I think they top the Vulcan

That seems to be the problem with all us jet premiums, flying any of them before picking up an early jet is hell,
The f89s will rip in a straight line and dive, the f86f35 is a sabre, the av8 has a very specific playstyle that works , the f5 is top tier
I got the f5c and I'm surprised by how well I've been doing in it in air rb like every game I get at least 1 or 2 kills and survive the battle
The afterburner on this plane is horrendously broken. Like it doesn't consume more fuel even tho that's literally how an afterburner works
The J85 Turbojet is extremely efficient, especially in-afterburner

I think I remember it. My plane had a lot of damage already and iirc I was playing a lot of other stuff that needed a good kick to roll defensively. That was a sad time
After the f5 spam I'm not bothering on buying the MiG21 F13 to start researching the other half of the SMT that Gaijin blocked me for not having 5 purchases at rank 6. I'll just haul ass with the mig19 to stall them out for the Su7s until they nerf the Farmer.
Btw in jets and ww2 planes in war thunder a good way to get rid of your gs in a turn is to tap Q and E so it does a little turn

They really need to fix this thing just not being damaged by missiles. If it was a Phantom or MiG-23 doing this kinda thing it'd be annoying yes but at least you can kill those with guns. With an F5, they're too manoeuvrable to even hit with guns and if your missiles don't work you're kinda screwed
They're not too maneuverable to hit, you gotta get lucky with the shots, but I agree it is broken. I can no-brain it and almost get an ace easily

my personal experience it's one of if not the best 10.3 aircraft in wt history, even at 11.0 it can very much hold it's own if you're not dumb, in a dogfight this thing is an absolute monster especially with minimum fuel, i've ran multiple tests against nearly every top tier jet and the ONLY jets that can match it are the MiG-21Bis, MiG-21SMT, the other F-5's, Mirage 3 series and Draken, that's it, any other plane you can absolutely smoke if you're confident in the F-5C even MiG-23's, F-4E's and FG/FGR's it's ridiculous how much you can just throw this plane around and if you know how to manage your energy you can basically dictate how the dogfight happens.
Even the Aim-9E's aren't a joke either, yeah they're not J's or D's or G's, but they've been EXTREMELY reliable for me in my own personal experience, this thing is a pure support fighter getting enemies distracted for the heavyweights like the FGR's, F4E's etc but once the initial moshpit of missile spam comes to it's mid-end point you can just go straight in and brawl without too much worry as long as you keep an eye on stuff, all in all it's probably my favourite fighter to bring up to 11.0 lmao
Players that I have asked in war thunder when I ask “what should I buy? F5 or Av-8a?” They always tell me a different answer so I’m still deciding

Spit, long time sub here and 9 year WT Vet. They need to change spotting. Turning radar on and off watching dots phase in and out of existence is pathetically stupid and was done for ground RB, and they don’t even have markers on planes anymore. Bring back the dot system at any range past Br 8.0 (I think it should be all BRs but whatever). I really wanna see your take on this idea though; every battle that’s 10.3+ is a 4v4 match. The servers went out the other day and I got into 2 or 3 matches with only 2v4, 4v4 and like 5v6, it was SO MUCH more enjoyable. You could engage people and the match lasted longer with people making actual plays (not spamming missiles and flares at everyone who isn’t paying attention).
gotta say tho i recently got the yak 38 and now you get a minimum of 2 f5-c's per match and atleast 4 harrier gr1's but its fun to show them they arnt almighty pieces of god and they can be shot down by a bus XD with r60's

Planes popping in at 1km when missiles have a 3km range from behind is a bad idea. The fact that you can look in that direction only for a plane to come out of nowhere 5 seconds after you turn away is insane and anyone who cares about the competitive integrity of the game should too
@@Spitflyer idk I personally don't have an issue mainly cause I dont rely on a system to tell me if planes or missiles are behind me I simply look and pay attention, if I get jumped i get jumped, no need to cry and blame the game because I wasn't looking at that time.
Honestly the way it sounds you want the game to be id say just go play arcade lmao, its called realistic mode for a reason, in ground realistic you don't even get the silly ui elements for spotting players, which in my opinion should be how air realistic battles should work too but it is fine how is now.

You should try out the F104A or C. After the BR decompresion they are way better, rarely sees 11.0 and 10.7. Most of my games are 9.7.

I’m trying to learn the attributes of each jet. What other jets such as the Mig 21 can be killed through lower speed/ lots of turns dog fighting?
This plane is great! If your new, only get it on sale and for future proof. Till you learn how to use planes. f5c is the best prem you can buy.

Hello, so I am mainly a tanker and recently got back into air, what planes would your recommend for the US to get better at dealing with other top teir aircraft. I recently got the first phantom, its stock and painful. I did play the f-86fs a bit but i find it hard or difficult remaining positive. I have a good battle sense when it comes to tanks but terrible in air rb.
Give lower tier jets a go like the meteors, f84G, and f3H. They’re all decent machines

Boy, it sure is fun to fight this fucking thing at 9.3 with the F-86K. Faster, more maneuverable, better missiles, FLARES, and all I've got is a shitty afterburner, two of the worst missiles in the game, and the ability to wing overload in a hard turn. I've seen two types of people flying this piece of shit so far, a couple clueless idiots who flew in a straight line and got obliterated, and whole teams of seemingly coordinated veterans who tore us apart as soon as they looked at us.
If the F-5C had AIM-9Js it would be top dog atm. F-5E doesn't turn as well as F-5C.

They might be laughing at me but I haven't been more convinced than this time that War Thunder is going from a realistic dogfight MMO game to turn into Ace Combat Freedom Warfare with American harriers with twice the thrust and compact NATO jet fighters with the same damage tolerance as a TU4.
F5C is a great premium. Probably the best in game. I am wondering how Gaijin will nerf it. The US tree desperately needed something to edge the other nations because top tier ground RB is Russian/German win sim currently.

doesn't matter how strong their lineup is. Zerg rushes of Leo's and t series always win. I played something like 6 matches at 11.0 and it was straight losses as US. Couldnt get CAS up to help because Roland's and 2S6s zapped them out of the sky as they spawned.

Some idiot in an F5c airbraked me despite me already being super slow and ended up overshooting by like a km which I then proceeded to kill him cus he couldnt manage his energy and stalled out 1km above me. He then went on a rant about how broken the mig21mf was and how his F5c should have easily won that fight and how broken the mig21mf flight model must be. Yea I had some pretty mean words for that guy, namely "you suck". I think the FM is broken cus gajiin wanted the noobs and "experienced bad players" to have a chance in top tier despite not really knowing what they were doing.

the hunter's a joke of a plane. It climbs better than the mig17, it's better armed (BY FAR) and it retains a lot more energy at *sensible* jet speeds. No one wants to go below 300 IAS to dogfight a mig17 and die.

Pure ass, unless you are playing the Phantoms and F-5 or MiG 21 bis/J7E, everything else is trash, took way too long to unlock my only top tier, the east german MiG 21, only for it to be mooved at tier 7, with 0 countermeasures, only 4 IR guided missiles, vs Phantoms with 8 missiles of wich 4 of them are radar guided, and with thousends of flares, so wen you finally get on one, it can simply spam the flares and get out of it.
Also the spotting system is pure garbage, you can double check your 6 before getting on someone's tail, but somehow get shot down by an invisible plane from a km away.
Oh and they also added the Sagittario 2, an italian 8.0 that belongs in 8.7 atleast, it can outurn and outclimb eveything at the tier, while having 2 30mm guns with 1400m/s muzzle velocity.This thing on a downtier verses Me 262s ffs.
